Execute a bean method on page entry

Hi all,
When I have a page with a backing bean on the request, then I know for sure that that bean will have its constructor called and executed when the page loads. That enables me to do some initialisation in the constructor.
Now I have a page with a bean on session context. However, now the bean is already there (most of the time) so the constructor isn't called.
Is there a (simple) way so that I can call a method of my bean every time my jsp page is loaded?
Thank you,
Steven

Thanks,
I still have a problem though.
I thought of initialising my bean before the apply request phase, but it seems that this phase gets skipped when my page loads for the first time. In fact my beforePhase method only gets executed just before the render response (my method doesn't really contain a lot, I just found out by debugging).
Any ideas how I could resolve this, as in: how can I fire this method everytime my page is accessed?
Thanks
Steven

    hi,
    That command link in data table. The requirement is like this:
    I have datatable, the columns are
    1) <h:selectBooleanCheckbox ....
    2) <h:commandLink ....
    requirement 1:
    if user select the boolean check box and click the command link
    then I want to execute the backing bean action method , it returns string url and show in new browser window( popup window with toolbar ).
    requirement 2:
    if user not select the boolean check box and click the command link then I want to excute the backing bean action method, it returns string url and show in the same browser ( through navigation rule we can show that page.)
    Please look the below command link code.......
    <h:commandLink id="belegnr" onmousedown="return showPopupWindowForInvoiceForGraphicImage( '#{row.importKz}', '#{row.blnChecked}', '#{InvoiceMecBoxBean.printInvoiceFilePath}');" styleClass="input" style="color:blue" value="#{row.belegnr}" action="#{InvoiceMecBoxBean.editLinkAction}"/>
    Can u please give me the idea istead of command link can we use outputlink to fullfil the requirement?. Or any suggestion please......
    Here in my case commandlink value is differenet and after action the return value is different to show in new window. that is problem here.

  • Oracle ADF 11g : Invoke managed bean method on page resize.

    Given the following code:
    <af:clientListener method="getElementWidth"
                                       type="propertyChange"/>
                    <af:serverListener type="customEvent"
                                       method="#{columnSizeBean.handleRequest}"/>Is there a client listener that can be triggered on browser window resize ?
    Something like:
    <af:clientListener method="getElementWidth"
                                       type="[[[[something like a window resize]]]]]]"/>
                    <af:serverListener type="customEvent"
                                       method="#{columnSizeBean.handleRequest}"/>NOTE:
    getElementWidth is a javascript method in my current code, while columnSizeBean is a sessionScope bean that is doing some computations on a table column width.

    Hi,
    no there is not. However, in this case you can use vanilla JavaScript and register to the browser DOM to receive the event notification. If you rceive the notification you access the server Listener you put on the af:document component. This should work

  • Calling managed bean method using ajax on jsp page loading

    Hello,
    I am using jsf1.1 i want to call managed bean method when page gets loaded using ajax.
    Thanks
    K.Ramu

    Use an ajaxical JSF framework, for example Ajax4jsf (part of RichFaces).
    But why don´t you just use the constructor of the bean class to do some stuff prior to page loading?

  • Calling a backing bean method after load of fragment in adf

    I needed to call a backing bean method after page load of fragment in adf.
    I used the method suggested in:
    https://community.oracle.com/message/11044570
    only difference is im giving the if clause as:
    if (refreshFlag == RegionBinding.RENDER_MODEL ) {
    instead of
    if (refreshFlag == RegionBinding.PREPARE_MODEL)
    It was working fine, but page was not getting refreshed so used the code as mentioned in example:
    public void refresh() {
              FacesContext facesContext = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
              String refreshpage = facesContext.getViewRoot().getViewId();
              ViewHandler  viewHandler =facesContext.getApplication().getViewHandler();
              UIViewRoot viewroot =  viewHandler.createView( facesContext, refreshpage);
              viewroot.setViewId(refreshpage);
              facesContext.setViewRoot(viewroot);
    Now issue is once page is loaded and backing bean method is called, the refresh code refreshes the page and upon page load, refresh method is called again in recursive fashion.
    please advise what to do in such scenario?
    I tried to do selective refresh using some variable(also with static) but it does not help as page wont be refresh at all or page will keep refreshing recursively.

    Use clientListener on the page load event
    <af:document id=”d1″>
        <af:serverListener type=”onloadEvent”
                           method=”#{<managedbean name>.<method name>}”/>
        <af:clientListener method=”onLoadClient” type=”load”/>
        <af:resource type=”javascript”>
        function onLoadClient(event) {
          AdfCustomEvent.queue(event.getSource(),”onloadEvent”,{},false);
          return true;
        </af:resource>

  • How to call java method on page load?

    How to call java method on page load?
    Thanks

    Hey Dan,
    Well, if you want to execute a java method when page is load, you need to put the clientlistener in af:document. Let me to show you an example (I can't find my post :P),
    JSPX page:
    <f:view>
    <af:document>
    <f:verbatim>
    <script>
        function loadPage(event) {
            alert('Hello World!');
    </script>
    </f:verbatim>
    <af:clientListener method="loadPage" type="load"/>
    </af:document>
    </f:view>If you try this code you can see that when the page has been load, you recieve the alert "Hello World!".
    Furthermore, this is the javascript AJAX function that let you to call a servlet:
    function ajaxFunction () {
        var httpRequest;
        if (window.XMLHttpRequest) {
            httpRequest = new XMLHttpRequest();
        } else if (window.ActiveXObject) {
            httpRequest = new ActiveXObject("Microsoft.XMLHTTP");
            httpRequest.overrideMimeType('text/xml');
        httpRequest.onreadystatechange = function() { alertContents(httpRequest); };
        httpRequest.open('GET', '/appname/servletname', false);
        httpRequest.send('');
    function alertContents(httpRequest) {
        if (httpRequest.readyState == 4) {
            if (!httpRequest.status == 200) {
                alert('Request error. Http code: ' + httpRequest.status);
    }Where 'appname' is your application name and 'servletname' is the name of the servlet that you want to call. Obviously, you can call any URL ;)

  • Execute application module method automatically from uix page

    Hi,
    We are developping an application using Jheadstart 10.1.2.2 (build 32) with UIX pages as a view.
    We have build a custom method on our application module class that creates and saves in a directory a chart in function of a parameter we pass to this method.
    We would like to execute this method every time we acces a form page since this pages has to show the chart that our method creates. We would like to know if it is possible to execute this method automatically every time we acces this form page without having to press a button each time.
    Thanks in advanced.
    Xavier

    Xavier,
    I am not sure UIX works as JSPX and JHS 10.1.2 as 10.1.3, but that is what I would do if I wanted to execute a method on page load:
    1. Create a new managed bean(MyBean) in your faces-config which implements oracle.adf.controller.v2.PagePhaseListener interface
    2. Go to the pagedef file of your page, right click it in structure pane and set the controller class to 'MyBean'
    3. in MyBean and in beforePhase() method access App Module and call your function [see 4]. I quote this from ADF Dev.Guide 10.1.3 for how you can get App Module and call your function on it:
    // 1. Access the FacesContext
    FacesContext fc = FacesContext.getCurrentInstance();
    // 2. Create value binding for the #{data} EL expression
    ValueBinding vb = fc.getApplication().createValueBinding("#{data}");
    // 3. Evaluate the value binding, casting the result to BindingContext
    BindingContext bc = (BindingContext)vb.getValue(fc);
    // 4. Find the data control by name from the binding context
    DCDataControl dc = bc.findDataControl("SRServiceDataControl");
    // 5. Access the application module data provider
    ApplicationModule am = (ApplicationModule)dc.getDataProvider();
    // 6. Cast the ApplicationModule to its client interface
    SRService service = (SRService)am;
    // 7. Call a method on the client interface
    service.doSomethingInteresting();
    4. Check the phase and call your function in beforePhase method of your MyBean (implementing PagePhaseListener)
    public void beforePhase(PagePhaseEvent event) {
    FacesPageLifecycleContext ctx =(FacesPageLifecycleContext)event.getLifecycleContext();
    if (event.getPhaseId() == MY_DESIRED_PHASE) service.doSomethingInteresting();
    Probably, there is a shortcut to all these, or an alternative approach, which I myself will be happy to know about.

  • How to execute a method after page Load?

    My question is very similar to what was discussed in following thread:
    How to execute a method after page Load?
    My requirement is that I want to run a method in backing bean of a page, immediately after the page gets loaded. In that method I want to invoke one of the method action included in the pagedef of this page, conditionally.
    I tried using the approach given in the above thread, i.e to use <f:view afterPhase="#{backing_security.setPermPriv}">, but the problem is that our page is not using 'f:view' , so I explicitly added one f:view with afterPhase property set , but it is not working, page it self is not getting loaded, it is throwing the error:
    Root cause of ServletException.
    java.lang.IllegalStateException: <f:view> was not present on this page; tag [email protected]e8encountered without an <f:view> being processed.

    Hi,
    I assume that your view is a page fragment and here - indeed - the f:view tag cannot be used. If you use ADF then one option would be to use a custom RegionController on the binding layer to listen for the render phase to invoke the method. Another option would be to use a hidden field (output text set to display="false" and have this component value referencing a managed bean property. The managed bean property's getter method can now be used to invoke the method you want to run upon view rendering

  • Need to invoke bean method prior to initial page

    I have a web application with a default welcome page (index.jsp) that automatically forwards to a page with JSF tags in it (home.jsp). I use:
    <jsp:forward page="home.faces" />to accomplish this. This works fine for rendering the JSF tags in the page as long as the page does not need data from the server.
    However, this is not the case. I need to have a backing bean method invoked as follows:
      // ActionListener handler.
      public void retrievePagerList(ActionEvent event) {
        if (logger.isDebugEnabled()) {
          logger.debug("In retrievePagerList method of backing PagerBean.");
        try {
          setPagers(PagerDAO.selectAll());
        catch (SQLException e) {
          logger.error("Error retrieving list of pagers: ", e);
      public void setPagers(List pagers) {
        this.pagers = pagers;
        if (logger.isDebugEnabled()) {
          logger.debug("Number of pagers set: " + pagers.size());
      }I want to load a list of objects from the database so that the initial page shown to the users has a list of pagers displayed as follows:
    <f:view>
      <h:form>
      <h:dataTable styleClass="dataTable"
                   value="#{pagerBean.pagers}"
                   var="pager">
        <h:column>
        <h:commandLink id="editPager"
                       title="Edit Pager"
                       value="Edit"
                       action="edit"
                       actionListener="#{pagerBean.editPager}">
        </h:commandLink>
        </h:column>
        <h:column>
          <h:outputText value="#{pager.pagerType}"/>
        </h:column>
        <h:column>
          <h:outputText value="#{pager.pagerName}"/>
        </h:column>
      </h:dataTable>
      </h:form>
    </f:view>How can I accomplish this? I cannot seem to find a way to have a backing bean method invoked to put objects into the request (or session scope) in order for the initial JSP to display properly.

    jsf 1.2 will contains beforePhaseListener attribute for f:view that allows to call some code before page is loaded. For the current jsf version, it is usually recommended to register your own phase listener that is invoked "before Render Response" phase.

  • How to call different managed bean methods on a page template button

    Dear All,
    Use Case:
    I have a Page Template and inside this page template is a popup screen which is common to all my
    pages. My popup has OK and Cancel button only.
    My question is this, there are lots of pages that uses this template.
    How is it possible to invoke a managed bean methods dialoglistener when say for example the user clicks the OK button?
    One thing common among the pages is that they are included in some kind of a taskflow and I have configured
    a managedbean in a pageflowscope variable in each taskflow and I just wanted to pass the
    My Template
         - TaskFlow 1 (ManagedBean1.dialogListener)
         - TaskFlow 2 (ManagedBean2.dialogListener)
         - TaskFlow 3 (ManagedBean3.dialogListener)
    Each dialog listener does different things.
    How to do this?

  • How to call backing bean method when user tabs out of af:inputListOfValues field

    Hi,
    I am using jdev 11.1.2.4.
    I want to call a backing bean method based on the value selected in the af:inputListOfValues field.
    The requirement is similar as Frank Nimphius-Oracle has demonstrated here  https://blogs.oracle.com/jdevotnharvest/entry/how_to_notify_the_server but with Input List of Values component.
    The fields I want to call method from is
    <af:inputListOfValues id="appealNameId"
                          popupTitle="Search and Select: #{bindings.AppealName.hints.label}"
                          value="#{bindings.AppealName.inputValue}"
                          label="#{bindings.AppealName.hints.label}"
                          model="#{bindings.AppealName.listOfValuesModel}"
                          required="#{bindings.AppealName.hints.mandatory}"
                          columns="#{bindings.AppealName.hints.displayWidth}"
                          shortDesc="#{bindings.AppealName.hints.tooltip}"
                          binding="#{backingBeanScope.backing_Donation.appealNameId}"
                          autoSubmit="true" clientComponent="false">
                          <f:validator binding="#{bindings.AppealName.validator}"/>
                          <af:autoSuggestBehavior suggestedItems="#{backingBeanScope.backing_Donation.onSuggestAppeal}"/>
                          <af:clientListener method="onBlurTxtField" type="blur"/>
    </af:inputListOfValues>
    <af:serverListener type="onBlurNotifyServer"
                       method="#{backingBeanScope.backing_Donation.onBlurNotify}"/>
    as you can see,  af:serverListener is outside the af:inputListOfValues which probably is the reason its not executing this method?
    public void onBlurNotify(ClientEvent clientEvent) {
       // get a hold of the input text component
       RichSelectOneChoice inputTxt =  (RichSelectOneChoice) clientEvent.getComponent();
       //do some work on it here (e.g. manipulating its readOnly state)
       //Get access to the payload
       Map  parameters = clientEvent.getParameters();
       System.out.println("SubmittedValue = "+parameters.get("submittedValue"));
       System.out.println("LocalValue =  "+parameters.get("localValue"));
    I've tried to put serverListener tag inside the <af:inputListOfValues> but getting below error
    "Server Listener is not valid child of Input List of Values"
    any ideas please?
    thanks

    As first, check to see that you are using correct type for af:serverListener (thet one you are queue in the javaScript onBlurTxtField function)
    If still does not work, go to directly to the page source code, and put af:serverListener "by hand", as a child for af:inputListOfValues.
    Because it is possible that these messages are false alarm...

  • How to call a bean method in the faces-config file?

    Hi,
    I would like in my menu to call the method of a bean (it initialize some properties before opening the page) instead of opening directly the page, by I can't find how to do that.
    I tried :
    <managed-property>
    <property-name>viewId</property-name>
    <value>#{listInformationsController.listInformations}</value>

    And :

    <property-name>outcome</property-name>
    <value>#{listInformationsController.listInformations}</value>
    </managed-property>
    With no success...
    Can someone help me?
    Thank you and merry christmas !

    Hi,
    a managed property only gives you a anlde to a bean or property, it doesn't execute it. To execute a bean, you can use a custom JSF PhaseListener that calls a bean method. The reference to the bean is achieve through value binding
    ValueBinding vb = FacesContect.getCurrentInstance().getApplication().createValueBinding("Name of Managed Bean);
    TypeOfBean theBean =(TypeOfBean) vb.getValue(FacesContext.getCurrentInstance());
    .... theBean.theMethod() ...

  • Manage bean methods not able to call application module methods

    Hi,
    I have an ADF application where in my managed bean method needs to call AppModuleImpl methods. I use the code as below:
    public void getSummary() {
    DCBindingContainer binding = (DCBindingContainer)BindingContext.getCurrent().getCurrentBindingsEntry();
    OperationBinding op = binding.getOperationBinding("getVOData");
    op.execute();
    The code works fine when I run the application in my IntegratedWeblogicServer and I am able to get the data on my .jsp pages.
    I have installed weblogic server on another machine and I need to deploy and run my application on that server. But when I try doing that, the above code is not able to call the AppModule method and I see no data on my page (Also there is no error or exceptin thrown). Seems that the ViewController project is not able to interact with the Model project.
    Is there any extra configuration to be done on the newly installed weblogic server to get this work? Or will some change in the application code help?
    Please suggest.
    Thanks and regards,
    Ansh

    Hi,
    While creating the weblogic domain, we had the following checkboxes checked:
    1. Basic weblogic server domain [wlserver_10.3]
    2. Oracle JRF [oracle_common]
    I hope this is what we need.
    Yes, I also have the adf runtime installed.
