Execute queries parallel in web report?

Hello BW experts,
One web reports contains 3 dataproviders with 3 sepereate queries. when i look in sm50 it seems like the queries are executed serially. It takes the time of Query1 + Query2 + Query3. Is there a way to execute the 3 queries in web report parallely.

Parallel processing - could mean different things depending on the context!
Use of "parallel" in this case means you want them to run currently.
The only way I know of that you can get this to happen would be if you created a multiprovider that contained the 3 infoproviders. This assumes that the 3 queries are such that, you could get the same results from a single query aginst the multi-provider, which may or may not be the case. Don't know of any other way, as the OLAP processor wants to treat each query as 3 separate work process, which you only happen ot be combining on the front end. Guess this is a long winded way to say no.
Parallel could also mean you want to take advantage of the database's parallel processing ability to split a query up into mutliple subprocesses running on differnt CPUs, which might sound similar, but is really something very different.

HI ALL,
I created two BW queries/universe and put them into one web intelligence report. Both queries have the same mandatory variable. I combined the relevant dimensions but can't find how to combine the two variables, which resulted in pop-up for 2 variables.

Just to close it,
Instead of working on existing reports.
Create new report(s) on top of these changed Universes(2).
1. New WebI report on top of Univ1 (With Prompt)
2. New WebI report on top of Univ2 (Without Prompt)
If both are working as expected. Do follow below:
1. Open any Report (just created in above steps)
2. Edit Query
3. Add Query
4. Select another Universe
5. Drag few objects
6. Run Queries
Now see it is working as expected or not.??

WebI report based on Universe upon SAP BEx Queries:Prompt issue

I am creating Web Intelligence report using Universe based on SAP Bex Queries. In WebI report I created a filter condition as I need to run report based on two specidc dates. I need to schedule report to run 2nd of every month to show data for last month. At present I have the following filter : date between 'Start Date' and 'End Date'. 'Start Date' should always be 'first date of previous month' and End Date be always must be 'Last date of previous Month'. How to do this. The solution I thought would be to create variables at report/universe level ('first date of previous month' and 'Last date of previous Month') and use in the filter using 'Object from this Query' option.But this 'Object from this Query' option is missing in the prompt.Is there any work around to achieve this.? Could you please help me.

I have a related question too.
I have 2 queries and need a Combined BEx query written on this for reporting. (WebI)
In the 2 queries, there is a Field which needs to be restricted.
But this field should not be restricted in the Combined BEx query.
So I thought of restricting the Field at the report level. But in this case, the user gets a prompt to enter a value for the field.
And this is not desirable as per the requirement.
COuld you please tell me if there is another way of handling this without the user being prompted to enter a value while the report is being run, but still I need selection at the Field level.

Profile Parameter : Time out for executing query on the web

Hi gurus,
I am executing queries on the web directly. This can be done from query designer with the button that says "Execute query on web". The problem is that for queries that take more than 600 Secs to run, I get an Application timed out error. Queries that take less than this run smoothly.
Can anyone please tell me the profile parameter associated with this particular setting. It is not rdisp/max_wprun_time, I know for sure since the value for this profile parameter in my system is 9999. Please help.

Profile Paramter - icm/server_port_0
Current Value - PROT=HTTP,PORT=8000,TIMEOUT=60,PROCTIMEOUT=600
Changed to - PROT=HTTP,PORT=8000,TIMEOUT=60,PROCTIMEOUT=3600

Dynamic text in Web Report (lookup on Variable Value)

Hi
If a user specifies a variable value to run a report (say company code), is it possible to have logic which looks up some attribute of company code (let's say country for example) and then displays this as part of some header text above the query results table?
E.G. Report:
These results are for country <value>.
.... col1 col2
row1 200 300
row2 100 400
I've had a look at the Text Element Object, but I couldn't determine if it can be used for this - ?
I'm not sure I could use a Customer Exit Variable to look up the Country, as what could it be attached to if Country is not in the query/Infocube - ?
(I have the added complexity of having multiple queries in one Web Report)

Hi,
I see 2 possibilities:
- Use a <b>text</b> variable with processing type customer exit in the query title and read the masterdata table in your customer exit depending on the variable value for company code.
- Create another query (query on masterdata table) with the same variable. This will result in one row returning the (in the query definition) defined attributes.

Webi Reports with BEx Limitations

Hi,
I want to know the limitations of Webi reports when the underlying universe is built on top of BEx Queries. For example, would the following in BEx queries work with Webi reports?
Text variables in BEx Queries.
Cell restrictions
Authorization variables

You cannot use Text Variables in WebI snce they are not imported into SAP Universe.
Cell restrictions
Cell restriction again do not come Universe that is why the are not applied to WebI.

I am not sure about authorization variable.

Web Template - Executing Queries in Parallel

I'm looking to find out if there is a way to execute queries in Parallel for a web template. I think in 3.5 this was not possible, but I would think that with the new 2004s they would overcome this.
Anyone have any details on this?

From my testing it looks like it works the same way as BW 3.X web run time.
I have not seen any template settings or RSADMIN settings which will make the Data providers in a template run parallel, this will be great feature. Not sure whether this will be enhancement, will see what SAP has to say on this.

Error while executing webi report

Hello Experts,
I created a universe using SAP BI query. Now I am using this query to create webi report. so while creating webi report i select 1 characteristics and 1 key figure from the universe and putting them on result objects pane.
After putting these object when I execute the report i get following error:
Database error: SOFA Driver : Catastrophic failure. Contact your Business Objects administrator or database supplier for more information. (Error: WIS 10901)
Can anyone suggest me how to resolve this error?

yes, underlying queries work perfectly fine. Universe are created without any issue. However,in WebI, when I drag the any TWO objects under any class or even combination of one object and one measurement key, as soon as I refresh query, the error pops up. If there is JUST ONE object, no issue at all. I can see the data.
Mean...if there is more than one object in any WebI report, the error is thrown by WebI report. And this happens only while running WebI against SAP BW/BI, query or against any InfoCube.

Exception CX_SY_RANGE_OUT_OF_BOUNDS raised while executing a Web Report

Hi Gurus,
When I executed a Web Report, I got the following Exception
CX_SY_RANGE_OUT_OF_BOUNDS
when it is filtered for September month report is working fine, but when filtered for October month got the following message
Messages:
An exception with the type CX_SY_RANGE_OUT_OF_BOUNDS occurred, but was neither handled locally, nor declared in a RAISING
Part-field access (offset = 4, length = 2) to a data object of the size 3 exceeds valid boundaries.
Could anyone please tell me how to solve this issue.

Very large HEAPDUMP files are generated when executing BI Web reports NW7.0

I´m facing a new problem.
When few users are working in Portal to execute BI Web reports and queries, the system stops and big files are generated in directory: /usr/sap/BWQ/DVEBMGS42/j2ee/cluster/server0
I´m using AIX 5.3. The files are these:

In note 1030279 there is written:
?We will provide an optimization of the memory requirement in the next Support Package Stack. With this optimization, you can display a report as "stateless", so that the system can then immediately release the memory that is required to set up the result set.?
I´m using Support Stack 15 for ABAP and Java, but I don´t have more information about this problem or stateless function in another note. And I don´t know how can I use this STATELESS function in BI.
Anobody have any idea to solve this problem?

Hi,
Heap dumps are generated when there is an inmbalance in Java VM parameterization..
Also please remove the parameter "-XX:+HeapDumpOnOutOfMemoryError " in Config tool, so that heap dumps will not generated and fill up the disk space..
My advise is to send the heap dumps to SAP for recommendations.. Meanwhile check with SAP notes for Java VM recommendations..

URL error while executing a web report in WAD

Hi,
When I execute a web report through the Web Application Designer, I get the following error:
The requested URL could not be retrieved
While trying to retrieve the URL: http://abcd.efghi.es:8000/sap/bw/BEx?
The following error was encountered:
Unable to determine IP address from host name for abcd.efghi.es
The dnsserver returned:
Name Error: The domain name does not exist.
This means that:
The cache was not able to resolve the hostname presented in the URL.
Check if the address is correct.
But when I execute the web report with the IP of the machine http://123.456.7.893:8000/sap/bw/BEx?...........
I can execute my web report correctly.
I didn't find any options in the menu web template in order to modify the url generation.
Please help me to solve this problem.

Degrade the java version to java 7 update 45 and also degrade the java security level to low from medium. Also delete the java temporary files and also clear your IE browser cache as well.

Webi report throwing error when executed

HI Experts,
While executing a Webi Report we are gettign following error when executing with more than one characteristics -
A Database error occured. The database eror text is : The MDX Query select { [Measures].[4225B1TBMEMOYKZGDKLVINMAW] } ON COLUMNS FROM [ZMEPSC01/ZMEPSC01_QRY_0001]
failed to execute with the error Unknown error.(WIS 10901).
We tried changing the Universe -> Parameter -> Control -> Limit size of result set to -> unchecked it.
But still the error remains. Can u put some light over it.

Just Check with the BI the people they might change the the column name or some thing else in the bex Query that s way It is showing error.
Refresh the universe and generate the report then check it.

Once you get the error, without leaving that screen, execute transaction /nsu53 or ask your basis guy to check it for you.
You will get details of missing authorization.

First you sould make sure of your portal is up and running.
Then try to restart portal instance, you never know
Check clearly your authorization as well.
Afterwards try to chekc your portal setup. Check via following path: Logon to portal ->
Goto System Administration -> System Configuration -> System Landscape -> check Portal Content folder.
Chekc this sub/folder (Systems) for the your BW system which is suppose to be integrated into portal.
