Execute report from database procedure

I want to know if some way exists of sending to execute a. rdf (that in turn generates a pdf) from a procedure stored in the database. This because I want it to execute (the procedure) from a job of the database. thank you, ahead of time."

hello,
this functionality will be provided in oracle9i reports (as part of 9iAS release 2). in 6i you can submit an HTTP-request using the databse-package UTIL_HTTP.

• REP - 300 Error while executing report from Application

Hi,
I have report in Report Builder & for the same report form is there in Form Builder in which parameter page is designed. From application where I am calling report is internally calling form & in form Procedure Run Report is there which is calling report from Report Builder. Both report from builder & form form Builder are compiled . Also query is executing fine in Toad without error. Also all query fields are present in database.
But when I am trying to excute report from Application it is giving error as "REP - 300 Invalid Identifier " & it displays whole query.
Note - Report & it's Form are in ORACLE - 10g. Also the user through which I am executing report from application is ADMIN user , so it has executing permission.

looks like error in parameters. check out the value of variable that you are passing through to report from form. Put a messages to see variable values before execute report.

• How to generate a report from stored procedure

I would like to generate a report from stored procedure.
I used to work on sql server. this can be done as easy as put a select statement at the end of stored procedure.
The resule can be displayed on the development IDE, like sql developer or consume by Java JDBC client.
is there equivalent way to do this in Oracle stored procedure?

Hi,
What type of report you are looking..for.. ??
As you said that "I used to work on sql server. this can be done as easy as put a select statement at the end of stored procedure. "
When you execute it will return the result set and you will display directly on the FrontEnd.. Is my Understanding is correct Up to here.
See, In oracle you have call some custom stored procedures as you did in SQL Sever, but you have return the Results Sets, with help of Out put paramter, Either Cursors or Varrays..
or Else you can generate the Html reports based on your requirement, HTML can be used in the stored procedures of Oracle which will generate for your, you need to code it.
I could not able get the relevant link for your reference.
I will get back to you on this.

• Transfer executable report from one server to another

hi all,
How to transfer executable report from one server to another?
please reply fast
its urgent
thnx in advance

Kush,
To transfer a object from one server to another server it should be assigned to a package ie Dev Class so that a transport request can be created.Once the request is created we will release it using SE09 and then ask the basis consultant to move the request from Dev to Quality and then Dev to Production.
$TMP objects are called as local objects and can't be transported.

• Is there any way to run a report from database?

Is there any way to run a report from database using trigger?
A report needs to be printed out when a new row is inserted into a table.

If you are using the Reports Server it is possible to start a report from a trigger by using the UTL_HTTP package (in the sys schema) to call the report URL. This should work with DESTINATION=PRINTER.
Hope this helps.

• Calling Oracle Reports from stored procedures

Hi ,
Can anybody tell me whether this is possible and if so, how it can be done. Thanks for your help.
Regards,
Deepa

Oracle Forms allows you to easily integrate Oracle Reports into your
applications. However, on the Macintosh, it is not possible to use
the normal Oracle Reports runtime to generate ASCII text files. In
order to allow ASCII text files to be generated with Oracle Reports
on the Macintosh, the Reports<TEXT> Runtime applications was
developed. This version of the runtime only allows you to generate
text files and should not be used for other purposes.
While the Reports<TEXT> Runtime application has been provided, there
is no built in integration with Forms. This bulletin explains a
method which you can use integrate these two applications with little
effort. In order to use this method, you will need the following
items installed on your computer:
* Oracle Forms 4.0
* Oracle Reports 2.0
* Oracle Command 1.0
* AppleScript 1.1. This is available as part of the Macintosh
Operating System version 7.5 as well as with certain 3rd party
applications.
Because the only way to use the Reports<TEXT> Runtime application is
through Oracle Command, we will be using Oracle Command to run the
Reports<TEXT> Runtime application. However, we need some way to
communicate with Oracle Command which report we would like to run and
what parameters we would like to pass in to Reports. To accomplish
this goal, an AppleScript application will be used. Forms can use
AppleEvents (Apple's method for inter-application communication) to
communicate with this AppleScript application which can then create
an Oracle Command script file to run. So, the summary of events
which will take place are as follows:
1. Forms dynamically creates a command line to run the
Reports<TEXT> Runtime application.
2. Using AppleEvents, Forms communicates this command line to the
AppleScript application which writes out an Oracle Command
script file.
3. The AppleScript application communicates with Oracle Command and
tells it to run the script which it just created.
4. Oracle Command runs the script which invokes the Reports<TEXT>
Runtime application.
1. Creating the AppleScript Application
The core of this solution is the AppleScript Application. While it
is not necessary for you to be familiar with AppleScript, it will
help tremendously in your understanding of how everything works.
Here we provide you with an AppleScript which provides the
functionality we need to implement our procedure.
Note: This AppleScript is designed to work with the Macintosh
Operating System version 7.5. It should work with earlier
versions of the Operating System, but no guarantees are
made. Furthermore, there are known problems with the version
of AppleScript provided with version 7.1.2 of the Operating
System which will cause your machine to crash when this
script is executed. These problems with AppleScript were
corrected for the version 7.5 release of the Operating System.
-- This AppleScript Application is responsible for being a
-- "go-between" between Oracle Forms and Oracle Command. It is
-- responsible for both dynamically creating Oracle Command script
-- files and disposing of these files.
-- NOTE: This AppleScript Application was written for the Macintosh
-- Operating System version 7.5. It has not been tested
-- on any other version of the Macintosh Operating
-- System.

2. Setting Up Forms
It is useful to setup a PL/SQL Program Unit to hide the details
behind running the Text Runtime. Here is a suggested PL/SQL Program
Unit for you to use:
-- The following procedure is used to hide some of the details in
-- using the AppleScript Application. It accepts 4 arguments:
-- * The report name
-- * The name of the output file
-- * The parameters you would like to pass in. These need to be
-- formatted just as if you were calling reports from a
-- command line.
-- * A connect string for Reports<TEXT> Runtime to connect with.
procedure run_text_report (
rName in char,
oName in char,
params in char,
cString in char) is
cLine varchar2(1000);
begin
cLine := 'execute r20text module='| |rname;
cLine := cLine | | ' userid='| |cString;
cLine := cLine | | ' paramform=no batch=yes';
cLine := cLine | | ' destype=file desname='| |oname;
cLine := cLine | | ' desformat=dflt.prt '| |params| |';';
host('SENDAE aplt R20T runt ---- t "'| |cLine| |'"');
-- NOTE: in the above host() command, the series of quotes at the
-- end reads as follows: double-quote, single-quote, vertical
-- bar, vertical bar, the word cLine, vertical bar, vertical
-- bar, single-quote, double-quote, single-quote.
end;
Here is an example of how I can use the above procedure. In a
WHEN-BUTTON-PRESSED trigger, I might have:
declare
reportName varchar2(16);
outputName varchar2(64);
paramVals varchar2(64);
connectStr varchar2(16);
begin
-- We want to run the report named "myreport". The output from this
-- report should go into a file named "output.txt" located in the
-- "Reports" directory on my hard drive. This report accepts two
-- parameters: p_start_date and p_end_date. The connect string for
-- the database I am using is simply "scott/tiger"
-- Setup some variables to hold all the information I want to pass
-- in to run_text_report(). This information is put into variables
-- for readability.
reportName := 'myreport';
outputName := 'HD:Reports:output.txt';
paramVals := 'p_start_date=''01-MAR-95'' p_end_date=''31-MAR-95''';
connectStr := 'scott/tiger';
-- Run the report
run_text_report(reportName, outputName, paramVals, connectStr);
end;
3. Putting the pieces together
In order for this solution to function, you need to make sure that
both your AppleScript application and Oracle Command are running when
you make a call to run_text_report(). It is possible for you to
launch Oracle Command from within Oracle Forms with the following
line of code:
host('LAUNCHID oBTL');
If you place the above line of code in a WHEN-NEW-FORM trigger, you
can assure that Oracle Command will be running when your form is
launched.
It is also possible for you to have Oracle Forms launch your
AppleScript application. However, in order for you to do this, you
need to be very familiar with the Macintosh Operating System, how to
change the creator type of a file, and know what effects that change
can produce. If you do not know how to change the creator type of
your AppleScript application or are not comfortable doing so, you
should simply document that your users need to make sure to launch
your AppleScript application before trying to use your Form.
However, if you know how to change the creator type of your
AppleScript application and are comfortable doing so, here are the
steps you will need to take to have Oracle Forms launch your
AppleScript application for you:
* Change the creator type of your AppleScript application to
something unique.
* Modify the run_text_report() procedure. You need to change the
four character sequence "aplt" found in the host() command to the
new creator type of your AppleScript application.
* Add the line host('LAUNCHID <your new creator type>'); to your
WHEN-NEW-FORM trigger or to whichever trigger you placed the
host('LAUNCHID oBTL'); statement.
There is one significant difference between RUN_PRODUCT and this
solution. With RUN_PRODUCT, you have the option of specifying
whether or not the call should be synchronous or asynchronous.
However, the call to run_text_report() will always be asynchronous.

• Unable to execute Map from Database link

Hi
Been trying to research this issue but have had no luck in finding an answer. Here is the situation:
We have an apex application that resides on database "A"
Our OWB Design Repository (11.1.0.7) and Runtime Environment both exist on database "B"
Maps exists and execute under normal procedures as the "ETL" user on database "B", However we would like to allow the "APEX" user to execute a map from database "A" across a database link to a user that can execute the map without any issue.
When we try to execute the map across the database link from toad or sqlplus we get no error returned, the procedure runs and kicks off a map execution (as seen in ALL_RT_AUDIT_EXECUTIONS) or from the control center executions. However the Map execution immediately fails with no explanation as to why??
what makes even less sense is that the user on database "B" that the database link connects to.. can execute the same procedure all day long if logged directly into database "B".. but the moment you try to call it across the database link.. it errors with no message as to why.
We are calling the "WB_WORKSPACE_MANAGEMENT.SET_WORKSPACE".. so that is not the issue.. I am assuming this is either a bug.. or we are missing an additional call/privilege. The user for the database link is a registered user in the workspace, obviously this works since the database link user can run the procedure if logged in locally to database "B"
Any thoughts???

Figured out our problem..
Found RETURN_CODE column in ALL_RT_AUDIT_EXECUTIONS table.. point to -2064 which is an ora-2064
NOTE 1026597.6 - CALLING REMOTE PACKAGE RECEIVES ORA-2064 explains that a commit is issued in a coordinated session from an RPC procedure call with OUT parameters or function call. Action: simplify remote update statement.
The problem here is that "Commit Control" was set to Automatic for the mappings we were calling. Oracle does not like when a transaction is initiated on database "A" and has a commit issued on database "B" from the map.
Makes sense.. we switched the commit control to "Manual" and are able to process correctly by issuing a commit from the session on database "A"
Hope this helps anyone that runs into this issue themselves..

• Issues executing report from command prompt

I'm using Oracle 10g Reports and attempting to execute a report from my workstation to output in a spreadsheet format. We don't have a Reports Server implemented at this time, so I'm simply connecting to the database with Reports Builder and running reports. I can execute a report just fine from Reports Builder and output as PDF; however I'm not familiar with how to output as spreadsheet. From what I understand, spreadsheet output cannot be accomplished through the tool, only from the command prompt. I've tried executing the a command inthe following format from Windows XP command prompt, but no luck:
rwrun report=test_report.rdf userid=[usernam/pwd@db] desformat=spreadsheet destype=file desname=c:\temp\test_report.xls
Nothing occurs...no output, nothing when this command is entered. What is the issue? Can rwrun.exe even be used for executing on the client-side? According to Oracle documentation, rwrun is the executable that runs a report using the OracleAS Reports Services.

Hello,
Even if the parameter is deprecated, you can use errfile=c:\temp\reports.err and check if there are some errors ..
or check for a file reports.log

• Generate report from database using .xsl style sheet

I am trying to view test result histories for specific uut serial numbers.
We are logging all test data to the default access database template that was provided with Teststand.
Is there a method of generating reports from the database that match the format of those generated at runtime?
I was surprised to find that the default access database did not contain any gui or pre-made reports matching the xsl style sheets chosen in the report options dialog.
My database skills are weak, I am able to browse the raw data and I see the relationships between some of the tables, but the prospect of recreating one of the xml report formats in access seems daunting. Am I missing something? what is the best way to print a uut report from test data stored in access?

Hello msears,
Thank you for posting on the NI Discussion Forums. Unfortunately there are no tools available in TestStand for directly converting an Access database to a formatted .xsl report. It is possible to have a step in a sequence that reads the information from the database, and create the .xsl report as if it had been generated at sequence run-time, by writing those values directly to Locals.ResultList. Admittedly, this would require some knowledge of Microsoft Access, and the ability to write a program that will extract information from the database, in order to include it as a step in the sequence.
Is there anything stopping you from creating a formatted .xsl report when the sequence is run (instead of trying to create it from previous data stored in an Access database)?

• Generate Test Report from database

Hi
How can i generate a Html Test Report from a UUT Test that i logged about a week ago?
Does Teststand have a pre built sequence for this?
Help share your knowlegde

Shako-
I see that you also posted this question in this forum. As Taylor mentioned, there isn't a tool to generate a report from data in a database. You can create a sequence to call into a database and then generate a report. I would look at the example located at C:\Users\Public\Documents\National Instruments\TestStand\Examples\Database for reference.
