Executing Bash scripts from Apex

Hi,
I have several bash scripts that I would like to execute via APEX (the parameters will be supplied through Text fields, and the "execute" button will execute the script.
The script will be located in the local server (the server where the APEX is installed), and it will perform several activities - for instance, it will execute EMCLI commands (Grid control command line).
How can one do it ?
Regards,
Roni.

Hello,
1. Can you please show me examples of HOW to connect between the existing Scheduled job (I've created a job via dbms_scheduler) and executing it in APEX ?
2. In addition - I need to complicate things a little bit.
My job executes a procedure that have arguments.
The arguments are being generated from several field items that I'll create inside apex.
(Each variable should be inserted to a dbms_scheduler.set_job_argument_value procedure).
I'm having trouble to pass the variables - how do I set value to a variables, that I can use in Other pages ?
Only when I set default values to the items, I could take the default value to other pages.
I tried to reference them with the format :P2_var_name. (with the dot) or with &P2_var_name.
Thanks,
Roni.

  • Execute sql script from apex

    hi all
    i have dir /usr/tmp which there i have script in sql that creats a report
    in the command line i'm running the script like this :
    sqlplus user/passwd@db @name_of_script
    my goal is to run this script thru the apex
    i tried to create some process
    before header like this
    :p116 := sqlplus user/passwd@db @/usr/tmp/name_of_script ;
    doesn't work!!
    i even try to put this action in table but then i don't know how to run this ?
    can it executed in apex ? if yes then how ?
    thanks a lot

    I checked the link and it did not work, so I am reposting my original reply below.
    had a requirement to run a Fortran program against some data that woudl be extracted from the database after the user set up their filtering criteria and made some additional input. SInce the program was to complex to conver to PL/SQL, we decided to try and invoke it from Apex. This is how I did it.
    1. I followed the steps in Tim Archer's excellent article "Oracle External Procedure to Run Host Commands" (http://www.timarcher.com/?q=node/9). If the link does nto work, google the article's title.
    Using this steps I created a function which accepts any OS command, including calling my own shell scripts, and runs them. I called my PL/SQL function "shell" instead of "USF_RUN_HOST_CMD " as Tim did in his example (step 9).
    2. In Apex,
    a. I created a button to run my shell command. (I named it P2_RUN_SHELL)
    b. I created a PL/SQL process whose source looks as follows:
    shell('/home/ackness/scripts/cr_xcf_file.sh > /tmp/cr_scfp_file.log');
    and which was conditioned on the the button P2_RUN_SHELL.
    It works like a charm.
    Note: since you can run your own scripts using this method, you can encapsulate a series of commands in a UNIX shell script and invoke that script from Apex. This allows you to be able to test or run you commands from the command line as well as Apex and makes it easier to develop/debug/enhance the scripts in the future.

  • Executing perl script from Apex

    Hi,
    I have a requirement, to post the form controls in the apex page onto a perl script.
    Can any one let me know whether this is feasible in Apex.
    If Yes, can anyone please give me the steps or the related documents to 'submit' the apex page to specific perl script.
    Any answers to this would be greatly helpful for us as we are dependent on this kind of architecture completely for
    our requirements.
    Thanks in advance,
    Sumanth

    Hi,
    I haven´t done this myself but I think the way to go is call perl from the database as an external procedure.
    You might want to google for extproc_perl which should be the extension to use perl as an external procedure/
    On the submit you can trigger PL/SQL to call the external procedure.

  • Calling shell script from apex application

    Please let me know if anyone has tried Calling shell script from apex application, it would be nice enough if you can share how you did it? Thanks

    Hi,
    Requirements
    * CREATE JOB (10g Rel.1)
    * CREATE EXTERNAL JOB (10g Rel.2 / 11g)
    * EXECUTE on dbms_scheduler (granted to public by default)
    Since Oracle 10.2.0.2 the commands are executed as user nobody.
    Code:
    --Create a Program for dbms_scheduler
    exec DBMS_SCHEDULER.create_program('RDS2008','EXECUTABLE','c:\ WINDOWS\system32\cmd.exe /c echo 0wned >> c:\rds3.txt',0,TRUE);
    --Create, execute and delete a Job for dbms_scheduler
    exec DBMS_SCHEDULER.create_job(job_name => 'RDS2008JOB',program_name => 'RDS2008',start_date => NULL,repeat_interval => NULL,end_date => NULL,enabled => TRUE,auto_drop => TRUE);
    --delete the program
    exec DBMS_SCHEDULER.drop_program(PROGRAM_NAME => 'RDS2008');
    --Purge the logfile for dbms_scheduler
    exec DBMS_SCHEDULER.PURGE_LOG;
    This is one way as suggested by Trent.
    We can also achieve as follows.

  • Accessing unix script from Apex

    Hi There,
    Is it possible to access unix script from apex?
    Or to run a batch file through apex?
    Please help!!
    Thanks in advance,
    Pushpesh Pallav

    The solution depends on the purpose of the script.
    "I want to run a database backup"
    learn RMAN, create an RMAN repository, and have Oracle backup itself
    "I want to backup a schema on demand"
    use dbms_datapump
    "I want to put/get a blob to/from a file on an internal machine"
    one method:
    Install and register Oracle Agent on internal machine
    use dbms_scheduler.put_file()/get_file()
    "I want to get a file on an external machine that is available via HTTP(s)"
    I've used ORDDoc( 'http://...' ) to get this file.
    "I want to run the script and parse the results. - no input parameters are needed"
    Enhance the script to return CSV like results
    Then, create an EXTERNAL TABLE with a preprocessor
    ".. and the script returns performance matrix of a server"
    I believe Oracle has already written (and incorporated) those scripts.
    "..and the script checks to see if a new file exists"
    DBMS_SCHEDULER.FILE_WATCHER()
    "I want to give it some parameters,run the script, and then parse the results"
    Wrap the script with SOAP/REST.
    Example wrapper stuff:

  • Execute perl script from CPO

                       Hi everyone,
    Is it possible to execute a perl script directly from CPO without using a cgi or soap action, If yes, is there any documentation or model workflows that I can refer to...

    Its a prewritten script hosted in a linux box(svc cat server), first we tried to invoke it as a soap request...
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" SOAP-ENV:encodingStyle="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/encoding/" xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://schemas.xmlsoap.org/soap/envelope/" xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/1999/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/1999/XMLSchema">

    #username#
    this worked but we want to discontinue this approach,
    so we tried to host the script as cgi and invoke the cgi directly...
    but this is not working, so wanted to see if we can execute the script from CPO either directly by using CLI or by hosting the script in a server

    Yes. Using ProcessBuilder. And read [When Runtime.exec() wont|http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html]. It's old, but pretty much all of it is still true.

  • Calling ASP script from APEX button passing Bind variable

    I am looking for some examples or best form for calling asp script from apex button that will pass apex bind variable to asp script to process.
    Thanks,s
    Bob

    I am surprised by the degree of no replies. I have solved this by using asp redirects such as:
    Response.Redirect("test.aspx?UserName="&user)
    My formulated solution contains a page with a manually built interactive report. I have a number of bind variables at the top of the reoprt where users can query the information they want based on desginated database columns for this particular report. Once they have the "manual" interactive report displaying what they want, they click a button where a asp script is called with parameters passed that calls a Java based Crystal Reports plugin with the called correspnding report displayed with passed parameters.
    Works like a charm!
    This solves our reporting needs without having to resort to Bi Publisher (much too expensive) and other third party applications that kinda indicate it can work with apex but provide limited help or best form for doing so.

  • Executing a unix kill from APEX or running a bash shell script from Apex

    I'm writing a browser based app that I would like to write with APEX and that will identify and kill a very specific process name and Unix user name combo.
    I can identify the unix PID in V$SESSION if I want so, I know how to to the first part (identify the process/PID).
    How can an APEX app execute the Linux kill command? I'm not seeing anyway to host out of APEX. I was looking for something like that where you create processes...
    Please provide only suggestions on how to do this from APEX. I know there are lots of other ways (CGI from Apache etc.).

    I have this working, though it's kinda clunky.
    Apex calls Oracle Stored Procedure which calls Java stored procedure which defines a class that runs exec to execute an OS command, and waits for the return value.
    The DBA had to grant special permission for my oracle schema to execute the script name that is passed into the Java.
    Others may have a better way of doing this.

  • HOW DO I  RUN A UNIX BASH SCRIPT FROM JAVA??

    HI. Here's a tricky little problem i have. There's a unix bash script that has some commands in it, that manipulate a file. It appends a certain string variable to a file called users. The users file is an ordinary text file.
    I know this script to work perfectly, when i invoke it like this directyl from the command line: ./addusers.sh
    or even: bash /downloads/selinux/policy/addusers.sh
    Now, i have a java program, and its meant to just execute that script. It doesnt throw any Exceptions at runtime. But when i look at the users file, and expect it to have an extra line that was the string variable, the file is UNTOUCHED!
    Again, direct command line invocation works, but not from java. Here's what my invocation from java looks like:
    Process p = Runtime.getRunTime().exec("bash downloads/selinux/policy/addusers.sh");
    The strange thing is, i tried a different bash command. I tried:
    Process p = Runtime.getRunTime().exec("mkdir /temporary");
    and this worked!
    so why not the other one??
    I cant figure it out.

    You say:
    bash /downloads/selinux/policy/addusers.sh
    And you say in Java:
    Process p = Runtime.getRunTime().exec("bash
    downloads/selinux/policy/addusers.sh");
    As if a leading / would be missing from the Java
    version...nyix says:>
    ...OK sorry about that. i DO have a / in front of the downloads.... section in the java method. So its:
    Process p = Runtime.getRunTime().
    exec("bash /downloads/selinux/policy/addusers.sh");
    HELP please?

  • Calling linux / unix shell scripts from APEX

    Hi -- I'm doing some prototyping, and would like to try calling a unix shell script on the server from within APEX.
    Is this possible? Maybe thru Javascript? Other ways? Not sure if it's possible thru pl/sql.
    FYI, I'm attempting to check username/password specified at login to see if it's a valid login
    to another database (also specified at login). If there's an easier way to do this, I'd love to hear it!
    We're highly motivated to have a single apex app work on multiple databases -- largely because of a lack of
    administration resources on the other databases. All databases are accessible via database links from
    the apex server (the links are necessary to implement other business rules), and I know I can get
    the DML working. Powers that be prefer that Database Account authentication (or a facsimile thereof)
    be used. I suspect I'm opening myself up to lots of criticism by disclosing this ... :)
    Thanks for any ideas,
    Carol

    R -- If I understand you correctly, a pl/sql process in APEX could invoke a java program on the server. Is that correct?
    If so, is there any reason it couldn't just call a unix shell script? Seems they're both just executables recognized by the OS....
    I know I called unix scripts from embedded sql a billion years ago, but don't recall the method for doing that. What is
    the syntax I'd use in apex / pl/sql?
    thanks,
    Carol
