Expdp diractory in oracle 10g

hi masters,
i am using oracle 10g on RHEL5. i just tried to export the schema with expdp rather than conventional export.
for that i created a directory exp_dir in 'u01/app/oracle/oradata' ,grant create any directory to user which i want to export. created directory as "sys as sysdba".
grant read, write to user on directory.
taken the export with expdep.....
but in all this process i never see a directory created in specified folder.is the directory is virtual??? the exported dump says
Dump file set for SYSTEM.SYS_EXPORT_SCHEMA_01 is:
/u01/app/oracle/oradata/user.dmp
Job "SYSTEM"."SYS_EXPORT_SCHEMA_01" successfully completed at 14:56:37
where is the directory created????
thanks and regards
VD

If you create a directory using sql by pointing the physical directory in the OS level. When you use expdp or impdp, no need to remember the complete length of the path of physical structure (OS Level Directory), you may just need to use the the directory name. That's where your user dumpfiles and logfiles are generated.
Direcotry: schema_dir=/u01/oradata/expdp/schema
Ex: expdp userid/password dumpfile=schema.dmp directory=schema_dir logfile=schem.log ....
Here the dump and log files will be generated under "/u01/oradata/expdp/schema" directory.

Sabdar Syed.

    Hi,
I need to take full export of the database with out data and for all schemas. Can you tell is below syntax correct or not:
    expdp system directory=DATA_PUMP dumpfile=FullDB1_Jan25_08.dmp job_name=test3 logfile=FullDB1_Jan25_08_EXPDP.log CONTENT=METADATA_ONLY full=y
if I use above syntax I am not seeing all schema names in log file during expdp as we see in exp option.
Please let me know correct syntax.

  • Migration using data pump Oracle 10g - Oracle 11g

    HI all,
    1)
Right now I`m using Oracle 11g. I have a plan to import data from Oracle 10g. I would like to know if its possible to import data which was exported by datapump on Oracle 10g ?
Should I convert somehow expdp output from Oracle 10g to Oracle 11g format ?
    2)
Next question is. If I will use expdp to create dump of complete database. May I use *.dmp to import selected users ? Or only full database can be restored ?

Yes, you can import 10g dump into an 11g database.
Maybe you should take some time and read the section on datapump in the fine Oracle® [Database Utilities|http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/server.111/b28319/dp_import.htm#i1007324] manual.

  • Steps to export and import oracle 10g databse from AIX to AIX and LINUX

    Hi,
I need the steps to export the oracle 10g database from AIX server to AIX server and LINUX server.
Please give me all the steps as this is my first exort an import activity.
    thanks,

For 10g there exist two ways to do so.
    1) Regular exp/imp.
    2) Data pump expdp/impdp.
As this is your first export and import activity, relevant concept understanding is mandatory for you.
    Documentation Link
    http://download-east.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14215/toc.htm
Read the chapters 1,2,3 (Data pump expdp/impdp) and 19 (regular exp/imp). Good luck.

  • Encrypt datapump in oracle 10g

Hi, I have an Oracle RAC SE 10gR2 (10.2.03) with 3 nodes on SLES 10 on ibm ppc.
Every night I have some oracle exports (expdp) of some schemas. I want to encrypt one of various datadumps throught a shell bash script. I see that exists TDE for encrypt colums in a table, and I have to create a wallet for encrypt. However, I'm thinking that I preferred clear text (no encrypt in my tables and schemas) and only encrypt the datapumps files. For example, I have my database same as now, and I should specify one options in my expdp for encrypt.
    It's possible?
Can I encrypt those datapumps without use TDE (in Oracle 10g)?
    Thanks you very much!!

  • Oracle 10g: How to reduce the select * time

    Hello,
We have 10 million entries in our database (Oracle 10g in windows 32 bit machine.)
The execution of 'select * ....' takes 3 to 4 hour. Is there any way to reduce this time.
Is any tool available which can read the oracle export data and produce the output in text file format.
    or any idea ?
    Thanks

    Hello EdStevens
Is that 3 to 4 hours scrolling data past your screen?Answer: The Oracle is taking 3-4 hr to produce the output.
OK, let me try again. Where is the output being directed? To the screen? To a file?
The reason I ask is that often people will say "It takes n minutes to run this query" when in fact Oracle is producing the result set in a few seconds and what is taking n minutes is to run the results past the screen.
You should take a statspack report while the query is running and see where it is spending its time.
    >
That's a different problem. I assume by "export data" you mean a .dmp file created by exp or expdp? If so what do you hope to achieve by outputting it in text format? What is the business problem to be solved?Answer: Since customer want to read all 10 milion entries. so we are think if we can dump (Oracle export) the data and using some tool (not Oracle) to read the data so there is no wait for the customer. As stated, a dmp file is oracle proprietary binary file that exists solely to transport data across platforms/versions. It is not suitable for your purpose. You are far better off finding where the current query is spending its time than looking for some kludge. 10 million rows of data is still 10 million rows of data. Do you think extracting it from the db, storeing it in some other format, and having some other tool read it off of disk in that format is going to be faster than simply selecting it from the db -- asking the db to do what it was designed to do?

  • Oracle 10g Data Dump---Import to different users

    Hi everybody,
I exported data in oracle 10g using expdp in user schema(abc1).
Now i want to import that data in different user schema (abc2) and another user schema (abc3). Both schemas (abc2 and abc3) are in same tablespace.
How to do this. Shall i need to export that data in SYSTEM mode to import for different users..?
    Thanks in advance

Shall i need to export that data in SYSTEM mode to import for different users..?No need. You can use REMAP_SCHEMA option on import, e.g.
    impdp system/<password> directory=<directory> dumpfile=<dumpfile> remap_schema=abc1:abc2

  • Exp/Imp In Oracle 10g client

    Hi All,
I want to take one schema export from Oracle 10g Client. I am in new Oracle 10g.
In oracle 9i, we can using exp/imp command for Export and Import from Client itself.
I heard about in Oracle 10g, we can use Expdb/Impdb in Server only. Is there any possibility to take exp/imp in Client also.
    Pls help me...
    Cheers,

To add up to expdb from oracle client
    NETWORK_LINK
    Default: none
    Purpose
Enables an export from a (source) database identified by a valid database link. The data from the source database instance is written to a dump file set on the connected database instance.
    Syntax and Description
    NETWORK_LINK=source_database_link
The NETWORK_LINK parameter initiates an export using a database link. This means that the system to which the expdp client is connected contacts the source database referenced by the source_database_link, retrieves data from it, and writes the data to a dump file set back on the connected system.
The source_database_link provided must be the name of a database link to an available database. If the database on that instance does not already have a database link, you or your DBA must create one. For more information about the CREATE DATABASE LINK statement, see Oracle Database SQL Reference.
If the source database is read-only, then the user on the source database must have a locally managed tablespace assigned as the default temporary tablespace. Otherwise, the job will fail. For further details about this, see the information about creating locally managed temporary tablespaces in the Oracle Database Administrator's Guide.
    Restrictions
When the NETWORK_LINK parameter is used in conjunction with the TABLES parameter, only whole tables can be exported (not partitions of tables).
The only types of database links supported by Data Pump Export are: public, fixed-user, and connected-user. Current-user database links are not supported.
    Example
The following is an example of using the NETWORK_LINK parameter. The source_database_link would be replaced with the name of a valid database link that must already exist.
    expdp hr/hr DIRECTORY=dpump_dir1 NETWORK_LINK=source_database_linkDUMPFILE=network_export.dmp LOGFILE=network_export.log

  • How to export data within tables in Oracle 10g

Since I'm using Oracle 10g, thus I wanted to know that do I have the option for exporting data from one table to another or exporting the whole table to some another databases like SQL Server or any other database.

    There are several options, each has different advantages and disadvantages. When both source and target are Oracle;
    1. you can use database links across databases -
    http://psoug.org/reference/db_link.html
    2. you can unload to external tables after 10g and load from external table -
    http://tonguc.wordpress.com/2007/08/09/unload-data-with-external-tables-and-data-pump/
    3. you can use data pump(expdp/impdp) after 10g -
    http://psoug.org/reference/datapump.html
    http://psoug.org/reference/dbms_datapump.html
    4. you can use traditional export(exp) and import(imp) -
    http://psoug.org/reference/export.html
    http://psoug.org/reference/import.html
    5. you can unload to text with an unloader and use sql*loader to load -
    http://tonguc.wordpress.com/2007/09/02/announcement-of-a-new-product-ubsql-from-ubtools/
    http://asktom.oracle.com/tkyte/flat/
    http://psoug.org/reference/sqlloader.html
    for some options you may get the meta information(all table related DDLs) with supplied package DBMS_METADATA;
    http://psoug.org/reference/dbms_metadata.html
When source is Oracle 10g and target is non-Oracle you may unload to text from Oracle and use the related text loader utility supplied with the other vendor.
    Also Heterogeneous Connectivity is another option between Oracle and non-Oracle systems;
    http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B19306_01/server.102/b14232/toc.htm

  • Import in oracle 10g

    Sir
I am using Oracle 10g(10.2.0.1.0).I am using export and import utility for backup.
Now the problem is that i want to set some password when any sys or system or othere dba user want to import that dump file require password. So that my dump is secure and nobody outside my company will able to import the file.
    Thanks

I wonder why people keep thinking export is a backup. The documentation is quite clear about it: Export is NOT a backup, it is only a logical dump.
When you use export as a backup, you will loose data when a disk crashes, and you have to 'restore' your database from an export.
Using export for a backup is a potential career limiting move.
Also you shouldn't need to ask whether you can password protect an export. Obviously such feature is documented (Oracle has no undocumented features) and you can read about it in the documentation, in this case the Oracle Utilities Manual.
You can encrypt an export made with expdp, Oracle's new tool, and with RMAN.
But you really should stop using 'export for a backup', and start using RMAN, right now, or the day will come you will regret you didn't use RMAN.

  • Loop or cycle in spaces

In linux, you can loop/cycle through your spaces, so if you're, for instance, on desktop 4/4, you can move to the desktop 1/4 if you continue cycling, rather than moving back 2 spaces. Is there any way to do this in Lion?
