Experience on database as REPORT DEVELOPER

what can be the best answer to the following question?
"what is u r experience in databases (Oracle, SQL server, Teradata and DB2UDB ) as a REPORT DEVELOPER?"

According to me, I would answer like this.
I have worked with different types of databases for generating high level reports. I have used different tools like Toad, AQT, QueryMan, Teradata SQL Assistant for debugging my reports. I created materialized views for performance improvement and bottleneck issues.
(now interviewer should definitely ask question on materialized views and performance tuning for databases, so learn that perfectly..)
So, thats how you drive the interview.
Best of luck, and if you like my answer, reward points are appreciated.

Yes. I mentioned it to Support in a TAR I currently have opened concerning output format not matching my layout.
Oracle Report Developer has a very nice feature that causes it to crash without attempting to save your work. And, of course no warning either. I don't expect to get an answer to that and may not get one on my format issue either.

  • Report Developer Control Of Applying Hints to Analytics Queries

There are numerous ways to apply hints to the queries generated by Analytics:
    - Table level
    - Join level
    - Evaluate calculation
Each has its advantages and drawbacks.
    - Table level: applies the hint to every query that references the table.
    - Join level: applies the hint whenever the join is used in the query.
    - Evaluate: allows the report developer to include a hint, but can't control where Analytics decides to apply the hint.
I propose another method for the report developer to apply hints, when needed, that uses join level hints. All the report developer
does is add the hint column to the Answer or add a filter based on the hint column to the Answer to apply the hint.
    Setup
NOTE: I suggest you do consistency checks along the way, especially before starting work in the next Layer, to be sure that all setup errors are resolved early.
    1) Start by defining a Logical SQL table in the Physical Layer using the following SQL: Select 1 Hint from dual
    2) Alias this table for each hint to be defined for report developer usage. As an example, alias the hint table, creating
No Star and Parallel alias tables.
    3) Join each alias to the physical layer fact tables, using a complex join, where the hint could be applied. In the Join definition screen, put the hint in the HINT field and enter 1=1 for
in the Expression section. Yes, we are creating a cartesian join between the hint and the other joining table. As the hint table always returns one and only one row, there
is no effect on the rows returned by the query. For No Star, you
put NO_STAR_TRANSFORMATION in the Hint field. For Parallel, you put PARALLEL(<physical table name>, default, default), where the physical table name
is the name of the actual database table, not the name of the alias table (Analytics will put the alias in the place of the database table name
when it generates the SQL). Additionally, for hints that have no parameters, you only need to join it
to the Fact tables in a query and not necessarily the dimensions. If you include fields from multiple fact tables, the hint will be applied
for each fact table. So, you may see the hint multiple times in the SQL (something like SELECT /*+ NO_STAR_TRANSFORMATION NO_STAR_TRANSFORMATION */ t00001.col1...)
    4) Add the hint alias tables to the BMM Layer.
    5) Rename the Hint field in each of the BMM hint tables to identify the hint being applied. For No Star, change the column name from Hint to No Star Hint. For Parallel,
change the column name from Hint to Parallel Hint.
    6) Set the hint column as a key.
    7) Join the BMM hint tables to the appropriate fact tables, using a complex join.
    8) Define each hint table as a dimension.
    9) Set the Logical Level in the Content tab in each of the sources of the joined tables to use the Detail of the hint dimension.
    10) Create a folder in the Presentation Layer called Hints
    11) Place each BMM hint field into the Presentation Layer Hints folder.
To apply a hint to your Answer, either add the Hint field to your Answer or create a filter where the Hint field is equal to/is in 1 (the number one). Check that the SQL generated
contains the hint, in Answers, go into Administration, Session Manager, and view the log for the user (the user log level will need to have been set to 7 to see the SQL generated).
Use of hints in more complex setups can be done by performing a setup of the hints that is parallel to the fact table setup. As an example, if you specify fragmentation content and a where
clause in your BMM for your fact tables, you would setup parallel physical layer hint tables and joins, BMM objects and joins, fragmentation content, and where clauses based on the
hint tables (only hint tables are referenced in the where clause).
As any database person knows, hints can either help or degrade the performance of queries. So, taking the SQL of the pre-hint Answer and figuring out which hints give the best
performance is suggested, prior to adding the hint fields/filters to the Answer.

  • Crystal Reports Developer XI shuts down when trying to run a report

I have been using Crystal Reports in my office since 2005 without any problems.
However, recently when previewing reports in the Developer edition of Crystal Reports XI I have experienced a problem. After logging onto the databases and selecting the parameters, instead of displaying the report the application closes. This only occurs on a few of my reports, I have not made any changes to these reports and up until now they have been working without error.
The only change to the operating environment has been a recent upgrade to Windows XP.
    Any suggestions for a fix?

    Naveen,
The reports where developed in the current version.
There isn't any other version installed on the machine.
I only have Crystal Reports Developer XI installed on 1 machine in the office.  The reports are loaded in the Business Objects Management Console and available for other office staff to run from the Business Objects Viewer.  The reports run OK from the viewer.
I have tried un-installing Crystal Reports Developer XI and re-installing it already - the problem still occurred.
There are a number of faulty reports, some query 1 database others only 1 database, some have SQL tables others do not, most of them have subreports, formula fields, parameter fields, and group name fields, 1 also has a running total field.
Most of the reports I have created are similar but have different selections.
Thanks for your help, hope we can find a solution.
    Ann.

  • Need to find the table of RV45A-ETDAT for Report Development

    Hi Everyone,
I need to bring a field on a custom report - 'First Date' in the Sales Order at item level.
It is populated with a structure RV45A and the field is ETDAT.
Apparrently this field is not directly stored in the sales order related database table like VBAP.
Kindly advise on how to find 'from where to pick this field value' for a custom report development.
Thank you very much for your help.
    Hemant

    Hi,
The field ETDAT field is not stored in any SAP Table.
Probably the field ETDAT in your structure RV45A is populated with data at runtime and that data might be reassigned to some other field.
You can check the same only in debugging the standard code of that transaction.
    Reward if helpful.
    Warm Regards

  • Total No of pages different in report printed using Crystal Report XI R2 vs SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8)

Currently in our application, we are using Crystal Report XI R2 for generating the reports. We are in the process of upgrading the Crystal Report to SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8). I updated that on my machine and all the reports work fine. I didn't have to modify any of the reports.
However when comparing the reports, we found that there are few reports on which the total no. of pages differ from the report displayed using Crystal Report XI R2 vs SAP Crystal Reports, developer version for Microsoft Visual Studio (File Version 13.8). Comparing the reports, it looks all the data that were fit on one page earlier with version XI R2 doesn't fit on the same page with version 13.8, thereby increasing the page counts.
The fonts, page margins everything set on report itself. Nothing being set in the code.
Both the application is using the same report that is pulling the data from the same database. Our application is a web application.
Any suggestion, why this is happening.
    Thanks.
    Sanjay

I am not sure what is being compared here?
    CRXI R2 designer to CRVS?
CR XI R2 in some version of .NET to CRVS?
CR XI R2 using RDC SDK to CRVS?
Also, is this happening on your development computer or after you deploy?
If you compare the the "Page setup" options dialog between reports that work and those that do not work, do you see any difference?
Is this a web or a win app?
Are you seeing the same issue when viewing and exporting - say export to PDF?
What is the printer driver used and it's version?

  • General oracle report development scenarios

    Hi
I need to develop oracle reports as part of my assignment .
I am looking for some report development examples or scenarios to generate reports using oracle 10g reports developer tool.
Any site or link or any info would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Dave

It is the tasks i am looking for that a report developer usually performsI'm not sure what you looking for. A report developer creates reports. Oracle Reports is just a tool for that task. It would be the same task as for a developer in Jasper Reports, BI Publisher, Cognos, Business Objects or any other reporting tool.
    Basically:
Based on the requirements you design a layout and see what data you need. This is just the analysis phase, no programming here yet.
For this data you create a data model (the queries). I prefer to create the queries as much as possible as database views, to keep the report itself as simple as possible.
From this data model you create the layout model.

  • Oracle Reports Developer 6i - sample data tables

I downloaded and installed all the components of Oracle Reports 6i on my PC. When I look at the Oracle Reports Developer manual (building reports.pdf) it is referring to a database tables like stocks, stock_history etc. I am trying to learn how to use the tool using this manual. Aren't the sql scripts that create those tables and load the sample data a part of the installation. Am I missing anything. I will appreciate any input. Again, I did a full install by selecting all the components and not just a typical install.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Suresh
Try locating these tables in scott schema. If you don't find it there, try locating the scripts to create this table in Oracle Database installation folder.

  • Installing Oracle Database and SQL Developer

Hi, I was looking for some help/advice in regards to installing an Oracle Database and SQL Developer onto a Windows 7 32bit machine. I have been asked to create a database to store data that I create through reports in Excel so I am required to create a local database but not sure how to go about doing this. Also not sure if I install the Express Edition or Oracle Database 11g R2. If somebody could please advise on how I can get this started or even any links/tutorials that would guide me in how to get this installed with a localhost.
    Thanks in advanc.

Thanks guys, I have managed to install Oracle 11gR2 and I have setup a database using the dbca tool and I can connect to my new database. One thing that I have noticed is that when i look into my tables in sql developer i see loads of different tables i.e. def$_, logmnr_, etc and I am not sure why this is as I expected an empty tablespace.
Thanks btw for all your help.
One of the key principles of relational databases is that they use their own facilities to manage themselves.  That means the database management system uses the database to manage data about the database using exactly the same facilities (tablespaces, tables, user accounts, procedures, etc) that an application uses to keep data for the application. See "data dictionary"   So there is no such thing as a completely empty database.
As said by others, you do NOT want to be creating your own tables under oracle's schemas (users) or in oracle's own tablespaces (esp. SYSTEM and SYSAUX).  Create your own user account/schema.  Create your own tablespace. Make that tablespace the default for that user.

  • Should I learn database design and development skills?

    Hi everyone,
I am a junior Oracle with 3 years experience. I have got Oracle 10g and 11g OCP certifications.
I know how to install, configure, monitor and maintain databases, but I don't know hot to design and develop databases.
I know that employers demand of us more and more. Database design and development skills are the basic requirements.
Should I start to learn database design courses?
If yes, please recommend me the books(or Oracle Docs) of Getting Started.

Google "data normalization" and study up on 1st, 2d, and 3d Normal Form.
Go through the Oracle docs and get very familiar with the different data type (varchar, number, date, etc)
    Read the Tom Kyte Books.
Programmers keep wanting to re-invent what the database already does, and treat the database as a data dump. As a result, I'd focus on analysis and design issues before approaching books on programming technology. (and I was an applications programmer/analyst for about 15 years before transitioning to DBA)
