I dont think the session will be destroyed when the browser is closed, I believe the session will be still active in the server until it is timed out depending on the maxmimumInactive property value.
but I have never tried removing the session when browser is closed

You have to write code that captures the window closing event and send a request (ajax will do) to the server to fire off the session invalidation.
Google for "handle window closing in browsers". AFAIK, there is no standard event that works on FF, IE and Safari - so if cross browser compatibility is a requirement, you have problems. There are workarounds that googling will lead you to.
Another option - If possible use per browser cookies for your session - the session finishes when the browser is closed. Mind you, the session would still be alive on the server side and would get recycled only when the session inactive interval is exceeded.

  • Close blackberry browser session

    Hi,
We have a WD Java application for blackberry thats being launched from within the extended notification email.
Once the user approves / rejects from within the application we want to provide them with a close or exit link which would close the browser and take them back to the email.
Normally we would use exit plugs and some javascript to achieve this. However exit plugs aren't supported for blackberry.
Is there anyway that we could achieve this. Some way of executing javascript or WMLscript without using exit plugs.
    Thanks,
    Tejas.

  • How to invalidate a session explicitly when a browser is closed

    hi,
i am keeping the information of a logged user when he logs succesfully in a session. the session time is maintained for half an hour.
i am also storing his information in an application object.
when a user logs out i am invalidating the session and his information is removed from the application object .
when a person is logged and another person at other place stries to log in with the same username and password, i am making use of this application object to check whether the anyone is looged in with that user id or not. if the id aleady exists in the application object i will not allow the second person to log in and i will provide with a relavent mesasge " already logged in with this ID".
But the problem is arising when a person loogs in and closes the browser (wth out looging in).
in this case the session is not invalidated and his information remains in the session and application object.
when he tries to loog in immediatly after closing the browser, the same checking is done for the duplicate log in and a message is displayed to him saying that " already logged in with this ID".
he has to wait till the session expires (i,e till 30 min) and then log in
As this creates problem, i want to invalidate the session the time when the browser is closed.
i tried with the onUnLoad() methos in javascript, but that method is not only called when closing the browser but also when a link is clicked ot when refreshed the page.
i am trying with Cookies but i am not gettin ga good approach as how to go forward with this problem.
Any body who can solve this please....reply soon or mail me
    Its very Urgent................
    Thanks

2.Any business critical web site should not allow
    multiple users to
work under same account at same time. Not true. My customer's web site is "business critical" and they explicitly wanted to be able to login multiple times with the same ID. At least in this scenario we completely circumvent your problem.
The Javascript solution will never be 100%. What happens if their internet connection drops and doesn't come back? Suppose their OS crashes? What if their power goes out? What if IE crashes? What if JS is turned off? What if the user just walks away and leaves the browser open forever?
You may be trying to get too much control, which on the web always leads to failure. Maybe a better alternative would be to warn the user that is logging in the second time that there is an outstanding login and that the previous user will be logged out if he proceeds. Then, keep a record of the event in case someone is messing with other accounts (although, since he obviously knows the username and password it is probably a user concern.)

  • When I have the downloads window open and I close the browser window, how can I get the browser to open the homepage the next time I start it while the download window is still open?

When I have the downloads window open and I close the browser window, the next time I reopen the browser while the downloads are still going, it returns me to the last page I was on. All previous versions of Firefox would return me to my homepage which I would prefer. Please let me know if this is possible.

When you re-open Firefox and choose Restore Session, by default it picks up your most-recently-open window, and the other windows should then show up in Recently Closed Windows.
The Firefox add-on Session Manager lets you manage how many closed windows and closed tabs are saved, in case it's not enough.

  • When I close my browser and reopen, it, all of the tabs that were previously open reopen, does not refresh and open with my home page opening.

when I close my browser and then reopen it, it does not go to the selected home page, but reopens with all of the previous tabs. reviewed the available knowledge based answers, but none seemed to fix problem. I'm not certain that I did everything correctly, but I believe I followed the directions properly. problem persists.

Assuming Firefox is set to start up with your home page, there are two common reasons for this:
    * You have a user.js file instructing Firefox to ignore your previously saved settings and restore the earlier session. See this article on tracking down and removing that file: [[How to fix preferences that won't save]].
    * Firefox is crashing, and doing an automatic crash recovery. As a diagnostic, you can change what Firefox does during a crash recovery, from automatically restoring to showing a list of windows and tabs from your previous session so you can pick and choose what to restore.
    ''To try the change:''
    (1) In a new tab, type or paste '''about:config''' in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
    (2) In the search box above the list, type or paste '''sess''' and pause while the list is filtered
    (3) Double-click the '''browser.sessionstore.max_resumed_crashes''' preference and change the value from 1 to 0 and OK that.
    Hope that helps.

  • Destroy the session automatically when the browser is closed by user

Is it possible to automatically destroy a session when the browser is closed by the user with the X?
Basically, what we want to do is to create the same effect when the user is closing the browser (with the X button) as when the ordinary log out button is used. That is to have the session destroyed.
    Any ideas?

    Symptom
A BSP application is not terminated correctly when the user closes the browser window or navigates to other URL.
The popup window, which appears on browse closure, contains the
text representing <img> HTML element content in the escaped
    form, like that:
    <IMG WIDTH=quot; HEIGHT=quot; SRC="...
After the popup disappears, the session remains opened.
Since the session is not removed, that may result in database locks that still remain and can be found in transaction SM12.
    Other terms
Business Server Pages, WebAS, sessionexit, session termination, SM12, SM04, SYSTEM, session_single_frame.htm
    Reason and Prerequisites
    Reason:
The problem is caused by the minor code inconsistency in BSP application SYSTEM -> page SESSIONEXIT.HTM.
    Prerequisites:
    1. The application is using the SYSTEM application page SESSIONEXIT.HTM for logoff. When it runs, suddenly HTML source code appears on the logoff screen.
    2. SAP_BASIS 620 SP57 or SAP_BASIS 640 SP15 or SAP_BASIS 700 SP06 are installed.
    Solution
    Please install SAP_BASIS 620 SP58 or SAP_BASIS 640 SP16 or SAP_BASIS 700 SP07
    or
apply the code correction as described below:
    1. Go to BSP Application SYSTEM.
    2. Select page SESSIONEXIT.HTM and turn on Change mode.
    3. Change the line:
    <%=application->session_exit( exit_url = app-exit_url namespace = app-appl_ns name = app-appl_name page = app-page_name )%>
    to:
    <%raw=application->session_exit( exit_url = app-exit_url namespace = app-appl_ns name = app-appl_name page = app-page_name )%>

  • How the system automatically kills the process when I close the browser?

    Hi everybody,
I have the following problem: I run a report on the web browser. Suppose the user want to detail on one of the characteristics of report. If this takes long time (there are many records in report) and the user closes the web browser, the SAP system still run the proccess (in SM50 I see the dialog process still working, althrough the user closes the browser). This didn't happen in Excel, means, if the user press the 'Cancel' button when he/she tried to detail on one characteristic, the corresponding process is killed too (I see in SM50 how the corresponding dialog process is removed).
How can I solve this ? Any idea about this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Florina

    Florina,
there is a timeout set for the web session and the session would get automatically terminated after some time ..
    Some options are :
    1. Use Stateless Templates
    2. There is a Web Template setting called "Automatic Session Management" which uses a page wrapper cookie and kills the session when the person navigates from the page.. - <b>have changed it from previous answer after seeing Anil's post - apologies</b>
    3. If you are using EP  , you could implement DSM Terminator for the same.
All the above( except 3) will not be suitable for stateful templates , if you want export to excel capability , or printing capability or the capability to save the pages as HTML for local use , you have to use stateful templates.
First you would have to decide whether to use statefull or stateless templates and then depending on the choice made , go for any of the above. In case non of them work out for you , there is another option , but that would include a lot of javascript and using some command line parameters , update this post and I can tel you about the other if required..
    Hope it helps..

  • APEX Security: Multiple session cookies in one browser

    Hi all,
I use mozilla firefox as web browser. When I open a new tab and enter the APEX application url I will be redirected to the login page. After successfully login I receive the session id and the browser the session cookie WWV_CUSTOM-F....
When I now open the next browser tab and enter the APEX application url I will be redirected to the login page. After successfully login I receive the new session id and the browser the session cookie WWV_CUSTOM-F... with new content. My session from the first browser tab will be killed, because the session cookie for this session was deleted/replaced by the session cookie from the second tab.
Is it possible to have multiple APEX sessions opened in one browser in multiple tabs?

  • When I sign out of my bank account, Firefox says its blocked and I have to close the browser, why?

I clicked sign out from my bank account, and a message came up that my account has been blocked, and I am requested to close my browser. Once I received an error message.
    ID Code:c967ecee-285b-4a1c-85fe-3f5cfdaaafdd
This has happened several time now!
Can you help me solve this problem?

It depends on how paranoid you are.
There is a theoretical risk that a site in another tab or window could read through the history of your banking session and extract information, but that probably is very rare.
You definitely want to close the browser before leaving the PC available to another person.

  • Portal session not being terminated. browser "unload" event

This line of code is in the portallauncher.default and eventually causes the problem:
    EPCM.subscribeEvent("urn:com.sapportals.portal:browser", "unload", releaseProducerSessions);
releaseProducerSessions eventually calls a portal component
WSRPSessionRelease.. which is causing the problem.
When we upgraded from EP 6.0 to NW 2004, users started recieving the Netweaver Login Screen when they logged out and logged back in, in the same browser. We think this error occurs because NW 2004 implements Web Services Remote Portal functionality.
We are using SiteMinder as a third party session management tool.
What we found was that the Siteminder session was being killed but the Portal session was not. Therefore, when users logged back in they would see the generic Netweaver Login Screen, and they could actually just hit "enter" and continue to the portal.
A successful logoff, users clicked the logoff button, the DSM terminator was being called, thus killing the portal session, then a form was submitted redirecting the users the the siteminder loggoff page, which logs the users off siteminder.
When the logoff failed, we found that after the DSM Terminator was called
and before the page was being redirected, a portal component
(WSRPSessionRelease) was being called, which in turn, RECREATED the portal session. So the user never actually gets logged off from the portal.
We found that the WSRPSessionRelease component is set to
a "browser" "unload" event when the portallauncher.default component is first loaded. This is the same component that is being called when the user clicks the "X" to force close the browser.
Not everytime is the WSRPSessionRelase component being called before the redirect to the siteminder logg off page. Sometimes this component is called after the redirect, and we find that this is a successful loggoff.
    The component is:
    irj/servlet/prt/portal/prtroot/com.sap.portal.wsrp.coreconsumer.WSRPSessionRelease

    Hello Michael,
The 'log off' issue is a known issue with Portal since EP 6
Had faced similar issue and SAP suggests to redirect the 'log off' link to another non-SAP site...like your company intranet site.
This will help the session to break.
There are 1-2 SAP Notes on this as well.
    Hope this helps.

I have been running Chrome from several versions back when Firefox became very slow. I am now trying to switch back to Firefox. I have 27.0.1. My bookmarks toolbar disappears every time I close the browser. I have tried all recommendations I can find including reset and renaming, etc, but nothing has cured the problem. Restore to default used to work for the current session, but now that does not work. I am about to give up and stick with Chrome as this bookmark toolbar issue is driving me nuts. I am about to try uninstalling Firefox and reinstalling. And that will be my last resort unless I get a solution to this problem. I have been a Firefox user from the very beginning up till 16 or 17 and like Firefox, but this seems to be a common occurrence from my research. BOOKMARKS TOOLBAR IS A MUST HAVE!

    Hello,
Firefox automatically creates backups of your bookmarks, which can be helpful if your bookmarks are lost or missing. To recover them, follow the instructions below.
#Use <u>one</u> of these methods to open the Bookmarks Library window:
#*Click the ''[[Display the Firefox button menu instead of the menu toolbar|Firefox button]]'' to open the menu and click on ''Bookmarks''.
#*Click the ''Bookmarks'' menu and click on ''Show All Bookmarks''.
    # At the top of the Library window, click the "Import and Backup" menu and select Restore.
    # Click the date of the bookmark backup you want to recover.
    # In the new window that appears, click OK.
    # Your bookmarks from the selected date should now be restored.
For more information, see the [[Restore bookmarks from backup or move them to another computer]] article. For other solutions, see the [[Recover lost or missing Bookmarks]] article.
