Explorer HTML text flash bug?
Hello!
I have the following problem for a dynamically created
textfield:
mytext.text = "<b>bold text</b><span
class='green'>green</span>";
Even tough it works great in the Flash environment, it will
render differently in an IE7 browser.
In Firefox, it renders the bold and class tags correctly. IE7
doesn't render anything, it show only plain text: "<b>bold
text</b><span class='green'>green</span>"...
If I change text to htmlText, IE7 will render the bold tags
but no class [stylesheet] tags correctly... and Firefox will only
show the bold tags, no line breaks and no class [stylesheet] tags
correctly?
AS2 had some bugs regarding html rendering but I don't think
I ever had this problem regarding html text back then...
Any thoughts? Thanks in advance,
T.
I too am experiencing the same bug with my own site. The only
thing that makes me feel better about the situation is this problem
is seen on Adobe's home page as well. If you pull up a browser in
Linux and view the homepage, you will notice that the pull down
menu on this site falls under the flash animation.
My only solution so far is to check the clients OS and if
it's reported as a Linux box then to serve up a static image
instead. This only works if the OS is being reported correctly to
the server... Not a good overall solution though.
Does anyone know if any fix is underway?

Can you use html text in flash cc html5 project type?
I'm attempting to dynamically change font color of various words inside a dynamic text field.
I have tried both these lines of code below. have you dont this can you correct my code please?
I'm using flash cc and html5 project type. This was possible in previous versions of flash.
this.Logger.Log_File.htmlText = "<font color='#000000' size='-1'>"+MyGreatNumber+" "+"</font><BR>"+this.Logger.Log_File.htmlText;
this.Logger.Log_File.htmlText = "<p style="color:#ff0000">"+MyGreatNumber+"</p><br>"+this.Logger.Log_File.htmlText;from the easeljs docs: Please note that Text does not support HTML text, and can only display one font style at a time. To use multiple font styles, you will need to create multiple text instances, and position them manually.
to resolve, edit text in the js file where it's relatively easy to even use rtl text. -
I downloaded the new version of firefox, now I cant watch any movies, the html text box is totally gone, and so is the back and forward website buttons, please help? can i just have the old version back?
Not sure whether for instance you initially had a Yahoo optimised version of Firefox, and have now overwritten it with an official Mozilla version. Although the Mozilla version should NOT add unwanted features, but the Yahoo version may well do.
If you merely need to find the Yahoo emails page quickly just add it as a bookmark or as a bookmark on the Bookmarks toolbar and make sure that is visible.
Clicking the star icon on the location bar whilst looking at your emails will bookmark the page.

I do not use Yahoo myself, and am not sure what add-ons are available. You could search yourself using

Possible Flash bug? Won't work correctly on windows7, explorer11
I have a problem with Adobe Flash. It seems to fail or to work correctly and am trying to debug the problem to see if it an Adobe bug or something else.
I have two laptops old and new side by side to troubleshoot, both use same version of windows 7 home, internet explorer 11, adobe flash, directx 11, nortons, etc..
But the newer faster i5 laptop Adobe Flash keeps craping out on.
- I have checked (compared) all explorer security settings between computer all seem the same.
- Flash is Enabled in internet explorer 11, add-ons
- latest flash version has been installed and has been reinstalled (even a saved copy to disk and run offline from disk).
- flushed out explorer 11 cache
- flushed out adobe cache
- active x filtering is off
- reboots done of computer.
I find this a tad frustrating as what is causing flash to malfunction, anyone got any ideas to try?.
on https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
it indicates that i have the latest version installed
on the Adobe - Flash Player : Settings Manager - Global Privacy Settings Panel
none of the panels will display
but on the http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
it does not display the small version information window saying you have x.x.x.x installed nor does the red bouncing adobe box display like on my older laptop. but when you click on the gobal settings menu it indates that you have the latest version installed..
example: playing an online flash game, www.volvooceanrace.com the game loads asks to log in, and then you hear some sounds and and then seems to not load, proceed any further, or locks up. There are a 170,000 daily players using this flash game.First, confirm that ActiveX Filtering is configured to allow Flash content:
https://forums.adobe.com/thread/867968
Internet Explorer 11 introduces a number of changes both to how the browser identifies itself to remote web servers, and to how it processes JavaScript intended to target behaviors specific to Internet Explorer. Unfortunately, this means that content on some sites will be broken until the content provider changes their site to conform to the new development approach required by modern versions of IE.
You can try to work around these issues by using Compatibility View:
http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/internet-explorer/use-compatibility-view#ie=ie-11
If that is too inconvenient, using Google Chrome may be a preferable alternative. -

Static text corrupts randomly in html text region
Hi,
I am creating on a page a series of hide/show regions with static html containing images stored in the database. The tags in the html are pretty straight forward, just a few <p>, <br> and <img></img>. The size of the region is about 400-1000 characters. The problem is when I run the page and display the region, I see characters missing from the displayed page or are corrupted. For example an "<br>" tag I inserted would turn into "&lt;br>" or an image name "SummaryOutput.jpg" would be "SumaryOutput.jpg". Sometime the missing character are not even in the text I generate but in the substitution string like #WORKSPACE_IMAGES# where some images gets complete path while others are missing one character in the uri (e.g. "et" instead of "get"). This happens about 70% of the time for some regions with multiple images. The ones with only one image link don't seem to have the problem.
How I created the region is this.
1. creating an an HTML Text Region, hide/show (although I did tried switching to no-template and the problem still existed).
2. upload the images into the db and not assign them to any application.
3. create my html doc using MS Word and save as "filtered htm".
4. open the html doc using TextPad and edit the image links to using the db image (e.g. <img src="#WORKSPACE_IMAGES#imagename.extension" alt="Image Title">
5. Cut&Paste the html code into the Resource textarea of the HTML Text Region. Click "Apply Changes"
6. Display the page. Most of the times the page displays fine, but when there are two or three images (less than 70kb each) contained in the html code I often see the randomly missing characters.
7. When I do view source on the page, I see that the link to the images are corrupted.
8. When I do edit page and look at the region->source. Sometimes I see the characters changed but sometimes not (eg. The name of the jpg is correct in the textarea but wrong in the output page)
Here are the things I've tried which did not work.
1. Remove all html tags from the html, keeping only the <img> tags. So only plain text and <img>
2. Do all the work in one IE6 browser window instead of using two sessions of FireFox and an IE. I thought maybe session states are conflicting.
3. I see the same problems in both IE and Firefox so I don't think it's a browser issue, at least on the viewing end.
4. There are no items in these regions, just text and images.
The behavior I am seeing is completely buzzard to me and I've exhausted all my methods of debugging. I did some searching on the forum and did not see any problems approaching what I am seeing on my server. Has anyone seeing anything like this or have an idea where to look for the problem?
Thanks,
Wayne
Edited by: [email protected] on Jun 25, 2009 1:10 AMnope - it's set to static. I do have a link embedded using
the properties panel and thought that might be the reason. It
wasn't. Strangest thing. I've recreated some of the text boxes and
they are working. It's happened a few times to me - and I'm
beginning to think it is a quirk in Flash 8. -
I can download a file as a Firefox file (zipped) and it displays successfully. Then I can save the file as a text file and see the HTML text.
When I work on the HTML text file and then try to display the modified file in Firefox 5.0 and Windows XP, Firefox will only show the HTML text, not the display of the contents of the file.Make sure that the file has a .html file extension if you want Firefox to render the content.

Gallery with HTML text under image
I'm working on a gallery of images with thumbnails on the left and larger photos on the right. My problem is the larger photos on the right need some text under them. I've been adding the text to the photos in photoshop and doing this as a standard swap image/swap image restore. What I was wondering, is there a way to add this text as HTML. When I do the swap image I would need to swap out the HTML text also. I've done this as a layered div in the past, but it gets cumbersome when you have 30 thumbnails. Hopefully someone has a good solution for this. I'm thinking about giving up on Dreamweaver and doing this sort of thing in Flash.

Dynamic text box, HTML Text with Image
Hello Everyone,
I am using Flash version 8. I have used the text tool and
created a dynamic text box and have attached the UIScrollBar
component to it. This text box is configured to allow the use of
html text to be inputted to it. I have code that reads a file which
contains a list of text files that I then read and place them into
the text box. The user can use the scroll bar to scroll through all
the text.
I have created an image that is a picture of the tab portion
of a file folder. On the tab I have place some text. This was all
done in Photoshop. This tab image is used to separate the different
stories in the text box. The image is save as a jpeg file
Everything you have just read works with out any problems.
Now for the problem!
This image is only 20 pixels tall and the text is not very
readable. As we all know the HTML tags are very limited in Flash 8.
Ideally I would like to put the text and image in to the text
box as I would normally do. Then place text on top of the image and
have it all scroll properly with in the text box.
I have taken the tab image and converted it in to a graph
symbol and then put the text on top of the image. This looks good;
however I don’t know how (or if it is even possible) to place
the graphic symbol in to the text box at the correct place within
the text.
Does anyone have ideas on what may work? Remember that the
image I am working with is only 20 pixels tall which is why the
text quality on the image is so poor.
Thank you all for any help you may provide,
SteveYes Tim I am using the <img> tag and I know that I
can’t place text over the image. I have set the height and
width to be the exact size of the image. However When you go to the
webpage it will open the movie to the maximum size based on the
resolution of your display; however I do maintain the aspect ratio
of the movie. For testing I did set a fix size to the size of the
movie. Sometimes the fix size (1000x750) looks better and sometimes
a larger size (example 1280x1024). I believe that the main problem
is the fact the size of the image is 670 pixels wide by 25 pixels
high and of the 25 pixels the text is only 18 pixels tall. In
Photoshop this makes it about a 1.75 point font. As you can see the
real problem is that I don’t have enough pixels to make up
the text. This is why I am looking for an alterative way to create
the text.
I tried importing the image into flash as a graphic symbol
and then using the text tool to create the text. The results looked
real sharp, the text was nice and crisp (just what I wanted). The
problem is that I could not find a way to place the graphic symbol
into the dynamic text area like id did using the <img> tag.
This symbol needs to scroll as you scroll the text in the text
area.
This is why I am asking for help. I am looking for some ideas
that may work.
Thank you,
Steve -
Anti-aliased HTML text in Webkit browser?
Hi all,
I'm working with the webkit browser in an AIR project and running into a big hurdle. The fonts displayed in my webkit HTML are blocky and jaggy due to AIR not supporting -webkit-font-smoothing or text-rendering, and this is making my really great AIR app look a bit shoddy.
I was just wondering if anyone out there might have some sort of solution (or hack) that would resolve this issue and improve the appearance of the HTML text. Is there anything I can do?
Thanks for any advice,
Steven.Hi Chris,
Thanks for your reply. I'm using Flash CS6 targetting Air 3.4 for Desktop (on Win7). I tried switching my app to using StageWebView as suggested but it yields the same results, and so am a bit stumped as to what to do. I've checked my html css to make sure the correct font styling is in place and it appears smooth and anti-aliased in Chrome and IE (but not Firefox), so I'm not entirely sure what to do now.
I'm not too big into Webkit but is there anything in particular I should look out for with my machine?
Thanks again,
Steven. -
A best-efforts session with identifying, in ActionScript, an
image placed in a TextArea and identified with id, leads me to
wonder whether the id attribute is supported.
I have on disk a jpeg file of the amazom.com logo, a small
image.
In a scene, I have a TextArea with instance name
TextAreaPane, and a Dynamic textField with instance name
DynamicPane. Both of the html attributes in their properties panes
are set to true. There is a button onstage with instance name
"ShowIt".
If my script reads:
copyToShow = 'This is one place to see it: <img
src="D:/Imgs/amazon.jpg" id="nineties"><br>'
TextAreaPane.text = copyToShow;
DynamicPane.htmlText = copyToShow;
ShowIt.onPress = function( )
trace ("Via TextArea, I can identify: " +
TextAreaPane.nineties);
trace ("Via the textField, I can identify: " +
DynamicPane.nineties);
After the movie loads both in the Player and in the Windows
Projector, the image and text show correctly in both text panes.
When I hit the button, I get:
Via TextArea, I can identify: undefined
Via the textField, I can identify:
_level0.DynamicPane.nineties
Hitting the button after the scene starts playing allows the
very short asynchronous access time to elapse, so this isn't a case
of loading a textfield in one line of script, and then in the next
line expecting for ActionScript to have access to it.
Of course for the Projector I send these statements to a
textField on stage to see what trace gives me, and they're the
same.
I tried placing the two fields inside a movie clip (and
adding that movie clip instance name to the head of their dot
addresses), wondering if being a sub-object of a movie clip would
help, but the same results -- the textField handles it, while
TextArea doesn't.
... Does anyone have a means of getting better results?Tim,
Many thanks for the clue and the amendments -- once I had
finished a late night of it, a cleanup chore unearthed a magazine
that's had me engrossed for a day and a half and produced the
appearance of ignoring your replies; actually the computers have
been off.
I won't be back to it for another few hours at least, but
wanted to acknowledge the support; the hints in your message look
like they'll be the beginning of another day at it; I'll send word
when there's some kind of results.
I sent the same message to Adobe in their LiveDocs section, a
forum where they variously now tolerate people saying 'How d'ya do
this', 'How d'ya do
that', then now reply that that isn't the right forum for
how-to's, but rather for documentation problems. Well, since the
intro to TextArea says that it supports all the html that Flash
does, I added in the message that the inability to do the
dot-addressing-image-access that they explain under id is a
discrepancy, so qualifies to post even if they're in their
rule-adhering mood, but it hasn't appeared yet -- either under
review or discarded.
The reason I'd chosen TextArea was that the text column will
sometimes be long, and it would be nice to get the overage out of
sight by having a window that shows only the window's worth, hiding
what's above and below. (As you probably know, since attempting to
cover text in a dynamic field with a mask causes all of it to
disappear, that isn't an option.) The other night I felt I'd hit an
impassable wall with Flash; in resigning myself to use the Dynamic
Text field, I decided to cover the text overage with a translucent
screen of color, and be it due to having no choice that it may, the
desaturated stretches of text above and below would add ornament
and atmosphere to the screen, a faintly techno note. Since there
will often two to four of these scrolling fields going, an
intricate, happenstance pattern would develop that might turn out
to be nice.
But if the avenue you've opened starts working, I'll have my
choice between the two objects.

Changing li tag in external fed HTML into Flash
Hi
Really simple I hope someone can help me as I cant find any resource on the net that will help and hopefully somone has encountered the same problem.
Ive got some external HTML text being fed into flash, all I want to do is to edit the <li> tag in the HTML (not CSS) so the bullets sit flush to the left with the rest of the text, thats it! is there something i can put in the HTML that will resolve this such as:
<li left="-20px">example</li>
what ive got=
CS4 AS2
I proposed a simlar question but maybe i wasnt clear.Sudheendra,
Please provide the link. I don't think it made it into your post.
Rusrusrus,
It is a good question. And I look forward to the answer. I struggled with this awhile ago. The default styling of <li> in htmlText is horrendous.
I believe there is a way to adjust the left margin of the lists with flash's limited css support... but the spacing between the bullet and the text is not adjustable.
http://flash-reference.icod.de/TextField/StyleSheet.html
margin-left is probably what you are after. -
Printing html text and font styles
Hello,
when I try to print html text in serif with italic or bold text style the output on a printer incorrectly shows the bold and italic parts in arial or something. Underlined text is printed correctly.
The font is rendered correctly on a JEditorPane.
There were some issues with html rendering in java (e.g. Bug IDs 4331766, 4160605, 1235430, 4141537) but as these bugs are closed/fixed in earlier jdk versions, and i found no hint that anyone else has experienced such problems, i may be doing something wrong?

Retrieving html text not html document from RichEditableText control
Hi,
I have some html text
Ex- This is <b> test </b>
which i am setting to RichEditableText using TextConvert.importToFlow(),I want to format this text just bold and italic and then get back same html text back with
only formatting i have done.
Suppose i have formatted this text in RichEditableText like;
Ex- This <i>is</i> <b> test</b>
But when i am trying to get back this from RichEditableText using;
TextConverter.export(richedittxt.textFlow,TextConverter.TEXT_FIELD_HTML_FORMAT,ConversionT ype.STRING_TYPE);
It gives a complete html document with <html><body><font> tags, which i dont want. It should not includes all these extra tags.
Can any one suggest, whether it is feasible or not ? Please reply if any one has solution
Thanks..Leao,

Aha! Well, that can be a bit like painting yourself into a
corner. ;)
> Could you explain a little more?
Spend a bit of time with the String class. Before you even
do that, you
may want to familiarize yourself with the concept of objects
in general.
See this introductory article ...
http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/actionscript-20/ojects-building-blocks
... then spend a bit of time in a completely new FLA
experimenting with the
String class. Many of its methods are specifically geared
toward changing
the value of the text content, including stripping away
certain characters.
e.g., you can use String.indexOf() to return the position of
a particular
character (or characters) in a string of text. You may then
use that
position in cahoots with String.substr() to return a new
string that as been
"pruned" of undesired content.
