Explorer vs Netscape

I have been programming for Internet Explorer and Netscape 6. I have made a couple of Applets that act completely different on the two brousers. Explorer is really really giving me a hard time. It doesn't recognize many of the classes and methods that I am using. For example, I was using the Rectangle2D class and Explorer did not see it.
Is there anything that I can do to make my programs more compatable for Explorer?
Also what classes/version does I.E. use on Win2000, and what do the Java Experts do about this problem?
Thanks for any suggestions.

All dynamically linked systems have problems.
Windows has this problem with DLLs -- when you upgrade software, you often have to upgrade to new DLLs, and this upgrade can sometimes break other software that was written to use older versions of the DLLs.
Linux is starting to have the same problems with its shared libraries.
Of course, Java has exactly the same problem because classes are dynamically linked. If you write in Java 2, you can run your Java program only on a Java 2 JRE.

  • Where can I find Internet Explorer or Netscape to download for my iMac?

I have a website for some studies that says Internet Explorer or Netscape are the required browsers.
I've tried to open the website using Chrome and Safari but an error message comes up in a big red box.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Internet Explorer is only available for Windows and Netscape was discontinued. There was a Internet Explorer version for Macs, but it was years ago and only for PowerPC-based Macs.
First, you can try enabling the Internet Explorer mode in Safari to see if you can access to the site. To do it, first open Safari, go to Safari menu (on the menu bar) > Preferences > Advanced, and mark "Show Develop menu in menu bar". Then, close Preferences and go to Develop menu (on the menu bar) > User Agent, and choose one of the Internet Explorer options

the run active content script is adding a .swf to the end of

    if that's the case-

  • Outlook Express and Netscape/Default e-mail account

I have recently replaced my Internet Explorer with Netscape 7.02. When I send an e-mail from a website on Netscape, it prompts me to set up a new account to send the e-mail. IE always launched Outlook Express when I sent an e-mail from a website. Outlook Express is designated as my default e-mail account in Control Panels. Netscape support has been of no help. Can I get Netscape to go to my Outlook Express to send e-mails from websites or must I use the e-mail application that comes with the Netscape?

    Greg,
Trouble is that having changed mine to OE a longtime ago I'm not sure that what I see is what you see.
Having gone to about:config do you see network.protocol-handler.external.mailto if you scroll down? I do, but that may be because I have changed already.
If you do see it control-click on it and a drop down menu will come up in which you choose New > Boolean. Having chosen that enter network.protocol-handler.external.mailto when prompted then follow the instructions in the link I gave.
If you don't see it (and it sounds as though you don't) just control-click anywhere on the page and do the same.
Sorry I can't be more precise, it's ages since I did mine.

  • Cgi script upload from Internet explorer

i am having a problem with uploading files to my OS X 10.4.10 web server. i am using a simple perl script and have no problem with explorer, foxfire, netscape and safari running on MAC OS. i am also not having problems with foxfire and netscape running on windows XP. my only issue is with explorer running on windows XP. the files seems to upload to the server (/var/tmp/) and then cannot move the the directory designated in the script. once again, it works fine with every browser except explorer running on windows.

This may not be the best place for perl support. That said, you may want to filter the incoming filename before writing the file to disk. Remember that IE on Windows sends the full path (C:\... etc), not just the filename itself.

  • Runtime.exec failure in applet(IE and Netscape)

    Hi
Runtime.exec() failures to execute an executable(VB) in an Applet with Internet Explorer and Netscape Navigator. But the same is working fine with Mozilla Firefox and Opera. All the four browsers can load the applet successfully and listens the Swing component's action by actionlistener. But the problem is that IE and Netscape cant execute a VB created executable. The sample code of failure part is:
    public void actionPerformed(java.awt.event.ActionEvent e){
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(abc.exe);
Here abc.exe is a VB exe for doing simple thing.
Plz help me on it if anyone knows about it..................

  • How to suppress blank line in top and end of portlet

I created one small report (portlet) however when i execute this one; i remarked there is one blank line in the top
and another one at the end of the report. How can i eliminate these lines. I need this space to be able to see
a lot of information in the same page.
    I use portal 3.0.9.2

After developping a lot of portlet and read a lot of TAR on metalink and a lot of message on OTN i discovered the solution.
Wnen you create one report with the wizard there is no way to erase the first line ( header ) in the result.
Second for the last line of the results ( blank line ) ; the problem is with netsacpe 4.75 ( no problem with internet explorer )
with Netscape you will see one blank line and not with internet explorer ( confirm with Oracle support )
Anyway in the place of developping one report with the wizard ; you can copy and paste your sql statement of your report
inside one dynamic page and control all you want.
I will give you one example than i created; i hope it will help other persons like me

  • Best IDE and how-to create HTML for a swing Applet

Can you help me out? I've been using, and teaching with the old Symantec VisualCafe product from long, long, ago. It still works fine & I can even use it to build JFC/Swing Applets etc. But a few things have occurred. For one, a way back, Symantec sold VisualCafe to WEBGAIN - who now has gone out of business and sold it to a company called TOGETHERSOFT - who doesn't support it any longer.
This isn't really a big deal to me, because I can still build and deploy applets that are pre-swing easily enough. (as can my students)
HOWEVER... I'd like to be running with the LATEST Java (I think it's 1.4.01) and I'd LIKE to use whatever is the best development environment I can use - especially one I can recommend to my students. Do you know what that should be?
What's more, I'd still like to take some JFC/Swing created applets (even if compiled with the older VisualCafe IDE) and generate the HTML to allow 1.4 enabled browsers to run them (this is the case for the schools versions of Explorer and Netscape). Now, the HTML I have INSTALLED for the students used the HTML converter - back in 1.2 to produce the HTML at the bottom of this. This code no longer works now with current browsers. Do you know HOW one makes a jfc/swing compiled applet run on the latest browsers?
Any help or direction you can give would be appreciated.
    thanks,

    Bobby,
It's been a while since I've used the HTML Converter, but if I had to guess I'd say you need a newer version than what you have. Also, doesn't the converter allow you to choose which JDK you want to use (in which case you could select 1.4)? Again it's been a while so bear with me. Another option would be to put all the Swing classes into a .jar file (typically called swingall.jar) on your server and include that file as an attribute in your applet tag like this:
    <APPLET CODE="yourApplet.class" ARCHIVE="swingall.jar">
This way you don't have to use the Java Plug-in, however the initial download time of the .jar file can be significant.
As for an IDE, I've always been happy using a text editor like UltraEdit. However, I've heard good things about Forte, and hey, it's free!
Regarding Christina's post, that solution will only work if the Applet does not use Swing components (and Bobby specifically said it does). By using the <OBJECT> and <EMBED> tags, rather than the <APPLET> tag, you force the browser to use the Java Plug-in (rather than the browser's default JVM).
    Hope that helps,
    - Sheepy

  • How can I open a web page that is not compatible with safari?

    Hi all
I get the following message when I try to go to a certain web site:
http://www.sia.homeoffice.gov.uk/Pages/licensing-rolh.aspx click on the "GO TO THE REGISTER" button
Please note: clicking the button above will transfer you to our secure server, which will open in a new window. You must be using Internet Explorer 6, 7 or 8, or Netscape 7.02 for the new site to display properly. You can return to this site by closing the new window.
I have looked at Internet Explorer and Netscape and both seem to be out of date with our IOS.
How can I access this page?

Try downloading another browser, Firefox for example. Open the link in Firefox and once the page opens copy the link and paste it in safari address bar. That works for me.
Still trying to find out why we have to do this though since it works just fine in Safari once you had it opened in another browser.
    Hope that helps you!

At least 6 months ago, I noticed that every time I opened my

What I figured out is that right about that time, I had

Today, while I was testing some things out, I noticed that
the Check Browser Support list, only had Internet Explorer and

After I added Firefox Mozilla to the list of browser to check

    Great detective work!
I can't seem to reproduce this problem. What version of DW do
    you use?
Was Internet Explorer or Netscape defined as either Primary
    or Secondary
