Export data to sql

Hi There,
I am trying to export the data out of essbase then reload it into sql table, I right click Export, then choose "All Data", and check "Export in column format", so I get the text file. However when I try to import into sql table, it is just one big column.
What is best way to export data out of essbase then import into sql table, the idea is that I just want to export, for example, budget data, then import into sql.
Thanks

If you read my blog, you will see you really cannot control the format of the export except to designate one of the dense dimensions as the columns. The rest of it follows the outline. I'm going to guess that your periods dimension is what is being spread across. while you can't get the columns in the order you want. If this is still a dev cube, you could add a dense dimension with a single member and use that as your column. It would not affect the cube performance, but would affect any load rules or reports you already have.
If you need the format you describe, another suggestion would be to export it in the format you see, then put a view on top of it that unions the periods to pick up a single column of data and force a month name in it.
If your table looks like Year,scenario,dept,acct,Per1,Per2,Per3etc
then you could do a view like
Select Year,Scenario,dept,Acct,'Jan',Per1 from table where Per1 is not null
union
Select Year,Scenario,dept,Acct,'Feb',Per2 from table where Per2is not null
etc

  • Error while exporting data from sql server to excel

    Hi,
I am trying to export data from sql server to excel.
The query that I used is s follows
    INSERT INTO OPENROWSET( 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Excel 8.0;Database=C:\Folder1\abc.xls','select * from [Sheet1$A1:IV65000]')
    select
    column1,column2.... from Table1
I get the following error message while doing so..
String or binary data would be truncated.
    The statement has been terminated.
One of the column's holds data more than 225 characters.
What is the way to correct this, i want the whole data of the colum in the excel sheet.

I haven't had great luck with the INSERT INTO OPENROWSET method.  Can you try one of the many samples from one of these 3 links?

  • Issue to export data from sql to excel

I have MS SQL 2008 Developer version and visual studio 2008. I'm using SSIS Import and Export Wizard on the VS2008 to create a simple package to export data from a table using a sql query to excel file (.xlsx), but I got the following
    error messages:
[Destination - Query [37]] Error: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E21.
[Destination - Query [37]] Error: Cannot create an OLE DB accessor. Verify that the column metadata is valid.
[SSIS.Pipeline] Error: component "Destination - Query" (37) failed the pre-execute phase and returned error code 0xC0202025.
    The SQL query is
    SELECT [BusinessEntityID]
          ,[PersonType]
          ,[NameStyle]
          ,[Title]
          ,[FirstName]
          ,[MiddleName]
          ,[LastName]
      FROM [AdventureWorks2008].[Person].[Person]
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.

Or another way is to save the package created by Export Import wizard, open it in BIDS and add a Derived column task before the Excel destination to do explicit casting of the columns to your required unicode datatypes.

  • How to export data and SQL sentence?

    Hi all,
I need to create SQL sentences with INSERT INTO clauses of exported data from a table to populate another table?
    Thanks and best regards,
    Carlos N.

Inserting one row at a time is inefficient.
    You can do this instead
    SQL> select decode(rownum,1,'Insert all'||chr(13),'     ')||
2  'into emp (empno, ename) values ('||empno||','''||ename||''')' from emp
      3  /
    DECODE(ROWNUM,1,'INSERTALL'||CHR(13),'')||'INTOEMP(EMPNO,ENAME)VALUES('||EMPNO||','''||ENAME||''
Insert all into emp (empno, ename) values (7369,'SMITH')
         into emp (empno,ename) values (7499,'ALLEN')
         into emp (empno,ename) values (7521,'WARD')

    Hi All:
I want to export data form a table in SQl Server 2014 to an xls file.
Currently I have a working script for SQL Server 2005 in the below lines, but the same script doesnot work for SQL Server 2014.
    set @outFileName='D:\Folder1\File1.xls'
    SET @QueryString = 'INSERT INTO OPENROWSET( ''Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0'', ' + @outFileName +
     ',''select * ' + 'from [Sheet1$A1:IV65000]'') select * from Table1 ' --order by CreatedDate'

I have checked on the web but didnot get a good answer. Please share with me if any one has a working script for SQL Server 2014.
    Thanks... Happy Diwali.. :)

Ok, I have downloaded the exe from the above link.
As I have to install this on a production environment, I want to be sure of certain things ...
Say I have installed the Provider, what would be the syntax for exporting the data from sql server 2014 to xls.
It would certainly not be the same ... i feel.. please let me know.
    Thanks
    Yes
provider connection string would be different
    like
    INSERT INTO OPENROWSET("Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0", "Excel 12.0;Database=<full file name>.xlsx;HDR=YES", "SELECT * FROM [SheetName$]")
    SELECT ..
    FROM table

  • Statement terminator problems when exporting data with SQL Developer 3.2

I've ran across what appears to be a bug with SQL Developer 3.2.20.09. If someone can let me know if this is indeed a bug, or just something I need to configure differently, please let me know.
The problem is related to exporting a database as a SQL script, and terminator characters at the end of "create" statements, especially when columns have comments, and problems that occur when using SQLPlus to run the export script to create the tables. With the old SQL Developer 1.5.4, with the "Terminator" and "Pretty Print" options checked, statements like the following are generated:
    -- DDL for Type NUM_ARRAY
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE "NUM_ARRAY"
    IS TABLE OF NUMBER(20)
    -- DDL for Sequence MYTABLE_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "MYTABLE_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 20 NOORDER NOCYCLE ;
    -- DDL for Table MYTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "MYTABLE"
    (     "MYTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" NUMBER,
         "COL3" NUMBER
    -- DDL for Table ANOTHERTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "ANOTHERTABLE"
    (     "ANOTHERTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" VARCHAR2(1024),
         "COL3" VARCHAR2(1024)
    COMMENT ON COLUMN "ANOTHERTABLE"."ANOTHERTABLE_ID" IS 'This is a comment.';
When I then run the script using SQLPlus, everything works fine. However, with SQL Developer 3.2.20.09, with the same options enabled, the same statements are generated like this:
    -- DDL for Type NUM_ARRAY
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE "NUM_ARRAY"
    IS TABLE OF NUMBER(20)
    -- DDL for Sequence MYTABLE_SEQ
    CREATE SEQUENCE "MYTABLE_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 20 NOORDER NOCYCLE ;
    -- DDL for Table MYTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "MYTABLE"
    (     "MYTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" NUMBER,
         "COL3" NUMBER
    -- DDL for Table ANOTHERTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "ANOTHERTABLE"
    (     "ANOTHERTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" VARCHAR2(1024),
         "COL3" VARCHAR2(1024)
    COMMENT ON COLUMN "ANOTHERTABLE"."ANOTHERTABLE_ID" IS 'This is a comment.';
Notice all of the extra slashes in there. If a slash is not used as a statement terminator, SQLPlus treats slashes as a command to repeat the last SQL statement, which causes many errors about tables or sequences already existing. So, I tried removing the "Terminator" flag from the export options. This lead to statements that looked a bit more promising:
    -- DDL for Type NUM_ARRAY
    CREATE OR REPLACE TYPE "NUM_ARRAY"
    IS TABLE OF NUMBER(20)
    -- DDL for Sequence MYTABLE_SEQ
CREATE SEQUENCE "MYTABLE_SEQ" MINVALUE 1 MAXVALUE 999999999999999999999999999 INCREMENT BY 1 START WITH 1 CACHE 20 NOORDER NOCYCLE
    -- DDL for Table MYTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "MYTABLE"
    (     "MYTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" NUMBER,
         "COL3" NUMBER
    -- DDL for Table ANOTHERTABLE
    CREATE TABLE "ANOTHERTABLE"
    (     "ANOTHERTABLE_ID" NUMBER,
         "COL2" VARCHAR2(1024),
         "COL3" VARCHAR2(1024)
COMMENT ON COLUMN "ANOTHERTABLE"."ANOTHERTABLE_ID" IS 'This is a comment.'
The big problem, though, is in the statement for the table with a comment. Notice that there are two statements, but there is not a semicolon after either of them. This unfortunately causes the "COMMENT" statement to be appended to the "CREATE TABLE" statement before being executed, which causes the table to not be created (which causes even more errors later on when the script attempts to populate the table with data).
So, it would appear that this is a bug, but I'm not sure. Is there a way I can configure the export options to make SQL Developer export these statements like it used to in older versions?
    Thanks,
    -Bill

    No.
Leave the thread open. One of the developers for sql developer should be monitoring the forum and can provide more information.

  • SSIS to Export data from SQL to flat file dynamically

    Hi.
I hope somebody can help me out, I have a table like this:
Date, StoreNumber, ProductCode, SalesItem, SalesAmout, Inventory
    09-10-2014,10,1,10,10,30
As you can see I have a Date field and my table has information from 2014 at daily basis, What I'm trying to do is to export the information of this table to flat files, creating one file pear each date, as a result I will have about 280 files (one per date)
I do not know if it is possible or not.
    Thank you.

    Hi Mike,
you can do it using one Execute SQL Task and a ForEach Loop variable driven.
1st the Execute SQL Task "figures out" how many iterations the loop would need. The SQL as follows would drive it:
    SELECT DISTINCT [DATE] FROM MyTable;
and you get the dates placed into a package variable of type recordset for the [280] files.
And then you can operate on the recordset in the loop "shredding it" in a DFT with a source query dynamically driven by the date as "select a,b,c from mytable where date = '" + @[User::CurentDate] + "'" placing each
"date" into its own file even naming the file after the date using the current value of the package variable (ADO row concept).
    See an example: http://www.sqlis.com/sqlis/post/Shredding-a-Recordset.aspx

  • Procedure/batch file to export data from sql to excel(predefined path)

    Hi,
I have countries, sites, states tables (total 3) in database (i have user id and password to connect to this database).
every week i need to extract data from these tables into excel files and i need to save those in shared drive for team use.
Currently i am connecting to database every time running sql query and manually exporting that latest data to excel and saving that as excel files in (G:\team\common\) folder with specific name.
output format should be : excel (.xls)
    file names should - countries.xls,sites.xls,states.xls
    server name : ap21
    output location : G:\team\common\ ( G is shared drive).
i heard that we could create batch file to do this task and also we could use oracle procedure to do this task. but not sure which one is the best option.
could you please guide me what is the option and also help me with technical stuff to do this task.

    Hello,
output format should be : excel (.xls)Do you really want to create .xls files? This is not easy to do because it is a proprietary (MS) binary format. You should consider other formats like .csv or .xlsx. Follow the link in the previous answer how to generate them.
file names should ...The name of the files does not matter, you are free to name them as you like.
    server name : ap21
output location : G:\team\common\ ( G is shared drive). You can write the file generated in the database only to directories that are accessible from the db as Oracle Directories. You could mount the shared drive to the db server, but it might be better to write the output to a server directory and then transfer them to the shared drive with OS-copy command or FTP.
i heard that we could create batch file to do this task and also we could use oracle procedure to do this task. but not sure which one is the best option.I would use Oracle Scheduler to execute a PL/SQL procedure to generate the files and then a OS-batch file to transfer them. You can use the Scheduler to execute the batch file too, see {message:id=3895983}.

  • Export data for SQL Loader

I have a table with the following 3 columns
    Help_number Number(8,0)
    Title       Varchar(100 Byte)
Description Varchar (100 Byte)I would like to export all the data and import it into another table in another database. Im using SQL Developer to export the data. I choose the "LOADER" option but when the data is exported, the format is wrong. Here is an example of the data is exported.
"1","Error","Error 5343 - Input not recognised" The problem i have is that the first column is being exported in double quotes even though its of a type of NUMBER. When i try to load this using sqlldr it gets rejected because its a string.
The other problem that i have is that SQL Developer is not exporting all the rows if a table is big. I tried to export a table with 23000 rows and it only exported the first 55 rows.
    Any help will be appreciated.

The quotes issue I am able to replicate and have logged a bug #6732587.
I have also logged a bug for the number of rows, however, if you click ctrl-end and then export, you'll get all the rows. Also, if you do not want to query back all the rows, but want to export all, in the Export dialog, just click the "where" clause tab and then Apply. This will also bring back all the rows. This bug is not only for Loader, but for any export format.

  • How to export&import data using sql *loader

    Hi all,
How to export&import data from sql*loader. Give me the clear steps..
    Thanks in Advance

Hi did you already exported data from SQL SERVER? if not using SQL*LOADER you cannot export data. SQL*LOADER is only mean for importing data from flat files(usually text files) into ORACLE tables.
for importing data into oracle tables using sql*loader use below steps
    1) create a sql*loader control file.
    it looks like as follows
    LOAD DATA
    INFILE 'sample.dat'
    BADFILE 'sample.bad'
    DISCARDFILE 'sample.dsc'
    APPEND
    INTO TABLE emp
    TRAILING NULLCOLS
or for sample script of control file search google.
    2) at command prompt issue following
    $ sqlldr test/test
enter control file=<give control file name which you create earlier>
    debug any errors (if occured)

  • Best way to export data with r.t. prompts and have dense dim mbrs on rows?

    Hi All-
What is the best way to export data with Run time prompts out of Essbase?
One thought was to use Business Rules with run time variables and DATAEXPORT command, but I came across at least one limitation where I cannot have months (part of dense Time Periods dimension) on rows.
I have only two dense dimensions: Accounts and Time Periods and I need both of these on rows. This would come handy when user enter Start and End month and year for data to be exported e.g. If start period is Feb 2010 and end is Jan 2011, I get data for all months in 2010 and 2011.

  • Export data to MS excel dynamically, randomly fail

    Hello, there,
I developed a package to export data from SQL 2005 to xlsx file.
In the package, I have a foreach loop to loop through a recordset, ie. Group_Name, Group_ID
Inside the foreach loop, I create a spreadsheet using the Group_Name (passed by variable) in the destination excel file and then use Group_ID to select data that belongs to that Group_ID and populate the data into the Group_Name tab.
So, if there are 10 Group_Names, then 10 spreadsheets will be created in the excel file, if there are 50 group_names, then 50 will be created ...
I run this package in my local machine for now...
What puzzles me is this package randomly fails in the middle of process. Sometimes it succeed. And I am running the same data ... Even it fails, it does not fail on any particular spreadsheet (group_name), sometimes this, sometimes that ...
When it failes, it gives me error message like this
error: 0xC0202009 at Data Flow Task - PopulateData, Excel Destination [12]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR.  An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E37.
Error: 0xC02020E8 at Data Flow Task - PopulateData, Excel Destination [12]: Opening a rowset for "GroupName_101" failed. Check that the object exists in the database.
Error: 0xC004706B at Data Flow Task - PopulateData, SSIS.Pipeline: "Excel Destination" failed validation and returned validation status "VS_ISBROKEN".
Error: 0xC004700C at Data Flow Task - PopulateData, SSIS.Pipeline: One or more component failed validation.
Error: 0xC0024107 at Data Flow Task - PopulateData: There were errors during task validation.
I really want to understand why it is not stable.
    Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. My process is very similar to yours, using variable to create sheets. I am just running it at my desktop, right click the package, click execute ... It randomly fails
At some point, I suspect it is because I have too many application open: I have VS 2010 open, where this project is being developed, BIDS2008 open, a couple of SSMS open ...
Not very sure why, just wonder if anybody else had this experience ...
    Thanks.

I think I should tell you that the process is supposed to create about 80 spreadsheets in one excel file and quite often it fails at around 20th sheet. But some times, it finishes creating and populating data in 80 sheets without any problem.
