Export from CSV

Hi,
Need help from from where can I start what follows :
- using forms client server (6i)
- the user has a csv file on his local hard drive (if need to put the file in a ftp drive, this will be possible).
- from the forms screen, the user will click a button, this will :
1- extract some data from the csv file and do some validations
2- import some data into the database
Please let me know what is the approch for this kind of request.
Thanks for any help.

Dear Kamran,
Jina merely asked for an opinion as to which approach might be best for the situation described not a blow-by-blow solution with code samples, etc. There is a ton of tutorials and other sample material available on the internet to learn how to use Oracle Forms or any other development methodology for that matter.
Many new users post to these forums expecting those of us who have some experience in Forms to "Give" them the solution rather than "Guide" them to a solution. This is very defeating in many ways, but I'll name just a few. First, it puts all of the work on "Us" - the so called "Experts" to do your work (or in many cases - homework) for you. If you want us to do the work for you, please contact me outside of the forums and we can discuss my terms. Second, the so called "Experts" that routinely offer possible solutions in this forum do this in addition to our current work (job or contract, etc). We don't always have the time to provide a complete solution. And Third, what would you learn if you simply took the code provided by the forum and stuck it in your form. Most people post here looking for ideas they haven't thought of yet or for inspiration and yes, for complete solutions. As you look around the forum, you will find very few "Complete" solutions offered here. You will also find, that those requesting or demanding complete solutions are often chastised for it. You might want to read the "Before posting on this forum please read" thread by Grant Ronald at the top of this forum.
Respectfully,

  • Multiple CSV exports from the one button or pl/sql procedure?

    I need to have multiple csv exports from the one press of a button. The easiest way I found to do this is it to use javascript to popup three windows, each as a CSV link. This is a bit ugly though, and leaves the browser popup windows open when the file has been downloaded.
    I guess I could also make a solution based on branching, but I think that would be difficult to maintain and reeks of bad design (im not a fan of this spagetti GOTO style code!).
    I implemented Scott's custom CSV as found here: http://spendolini.blogspot.com/2006/04/custom-export-to-csv.html
    However I would like to know if its possible to download more than one file using this method. I could not work out how to do this .
    Has anyone got any ideas? Simply repeating the code puts the second table into the original csv file. Is there a way to 'reset' the htp writer or smoething?
    Any help greatly appreciated,
    Alex

    Sorry for the confusion - I guess I mean its easy in .NET because you can simply compress files together and then send 1 zip file down as the response. See http://www.developer.com/net/net/article.php/11087_3510026_2 for details.
    I guess I could ask how to do this in APEX - but it seems to me that my original wording addresses the concept at a much more abstract level. I may not find the best solution for my problem if I just asked 'how can I dynamically zip together three tables as seperate files and send them to the client?'. I also suspect that this method is not possible in APEX without custom packages. Please prove me wrong!
    I guess even if I could find some kind of javascript that didnt open a new window, but was a direct download to the CSV, that would be a good compromise. At the moment when you click on the link, three windows come up and stay blank until the files are ready for downloading. Then after the files have been downloaded the windows must be shut manually. Yes, I could use javascript to make the windows 1x1 pixel perhaps, and then shut them after a predetermined timeframe - but this is hardly an elegant solution!
    Thanks for your responses.

  • Import Meta Data from CSV - Export Meta Data to CSV

    Ability to import meta data into selected images from CSV file containing a number of fields, one of which is file name. The other fields would be selected tags to import.
    Import logic would be, Where file name in column 1 matches current selected filename, then take following fields 2, 3, etc and import into Bridge.
    Export selected meta data from selected files to CSV to form reverse of above to allow edit of data in Excel etc.
    Further enchancement on import would be to allow instead of just filename, but date/time range matching.
    Logic would be, Where date/time in column 1 is within X hours of selected
    image creation date/time then import following fields into image meta data.
    Useful for example if you already have a GPS tracklog in CSV and want to try and update images with GPS. Assuming camera clock approx same as GPS clock.

    The issue was within the .csv file.  There were duplicate records that were attempting to load as the ID value.  After deleting the duplicate records, the transformation file ran successfully.

  • CSV export from SSRS gives a line break if there are two tables

    I have a report with two tables. There is no gap between in the reports. The report looks good when I run it, but when I export the report to CSV, there is an extra line between the two tables. Can somebody help me fix this issue.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bindu,
    If I understand correctly, you have two tables in the report. When you export to CSV, it has an extra blank line between these two tables. I have create a simple report in my test environment, I can reproduce the same issue.
    Based on your description, you want to splice these two tables with no gap in the report. I order to meet your requirement, we can use subreport to work around the issue. We can insert two aubreports in one table. Then, display these two tables in these
    two subreports.
    Reference: Subreports
    Alternatively, we can display these data in one table to work around the issue. If possible, you can post your sample data, we can to do further analysis. If these columns is from two datasets, please check if there has same fields. If so, we can use
    Lookup function to display two datasets data in one tablix.

  • Csv export from vbnet 2005

    I am using vb net 2005 and have several reports that I access from the frontend.  The all run real nice.  My problem is when I try to export a report in csv format it is not exporting right it will not export sub reports.  How do I get the front end to export subreports data within reports?

    Hi Sandra,
    As subreports can not be exported in csv format due to limitations
    Try with this line of code its a workaround.I have tested at my end on VS2005 .
    //First of all Export the report in Excel and then save it to csv format
    ReportDocument Rdoc = new ReportDocument();
    Rdoc.Load(Server.MapPath(u201CCrystalreport.rptu201D);
    Rdoc.ExportToDisk(ExportFormatType.Excel,u201DC:\Windows\Temp\ExportedReport.csvu201D);
    Hope this helps !!

  • How to aviod html tags from Report column heading while export to csv

    Hi All,
    How to aviod html tags from Report column heading while export to excel.
    We used like Employee<br> Department in column heading, but the problem is the <br> tag also exporting into csv file.
    If any column data 3/2009 formatt the it will exporting as marh 2009.
    Please help on this.
    Thanks,
    Nr
    Edited by: pnr on Jul 5, 2011 5:00 AM

    Hi Nr
    Here is how I approached this problem.
    Go to report attributes tab
    under column attributes check PLSQL radio button.
    Create a function to return the heading of your report as shown below in your database.
    create function get_heading return clob as
    v_request VARCHAR2(20) := V('REQUEST');
    v_col_heading CLOB;
    begin
    IF INSTR(v_request,'FLOW_EXCEL_OUTPUT',1) > 0 THEN
    v_col_heading := 'Employee Number:Employee Name';
    ELSE
    v_col_heading := 'Employee breaktag Number:Employee break tag Name';
    END IF;
    return v_col_heading;
    end;
    Type the function below under ( Function returning colon delimited headings:) as follows.
    return get_heading;
    Similarly for data base it on PLSQL function body returning SQL and follow the same approach as headings.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

  • Import from dsv files and export to csv files

    hi every body..
    how can I create a project in NetBeans which does:
    1- import a .dsv (Delimiter-Separated Values) file content and save it to array
    - the values in this format separated by fixed commas
    example
    "AIG" "Insurance" "64.91" "25/11/06"
    2- export into .csv file (Comma Separated Value)
    -the values in this format separated by commas
    example:
    AIG,Insurance,64.91,25/11/06

    Well, you need to learn Java so you can read files, divide the data by the delimiters, and then write it out as a csv file.
    Can't really give better instructions than that...maybe start by reading the basic tutorials?
    We don't give out full program code here so you'll need to ask more precise questions. Such as what is it that you're having problems with.

  • CSV export from SSRS gives an extra header

    I have an SSRS report which I am exporting to CSV. The report doesn't have a header and it is perfect when I run and it. But, when I export it to CSV, it gives me the names of the textboxes as the header. I tried setting 'DataElementOutput' property to 'NO
    Output'. I also tried changing the rsReportServer config file for no header. None of these worked. Can somebody help me fix this.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Bindu,
    By design, SQL Server Reporting Services render a report to CSV format with text boxes' name in detail section as columns' name, not the table header when you view the table. So if we want to hide the header row of the tablix in CSV format, please double
    check the steps below to enable the “NoHeader” setting in the RSReportserver.config file:
    Please navigate to RSReportserver.config file: <drive:>\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSRS11.MSSQLSERVER\Reporting Services\ReportServer \RSReportserver.config.
    Backup the RSReportserver.config file before we modify it, open the RSReportserver.config file with Notepad format.
    In the <Render> section, add the new code for the CSV extension like this:
    < Extension Name="CSV"   Type="Microsoft.ReportingServices.Rendering.DataRenderer.CsvReport,Microsoft.ReportingServices.DataRendering">
    <Configuration>
    <DeviceInfo>
    <NoHeader>True</NoHeader>
    </DeviceInfo>
    </Configuration>
    < /Extension>
    Save the RSReportserver.config file.
    Besides, If we could build the URL for when user want to export without header, try adding NOHEADER=true in the URL.

  • 10g exporting to CSV using client_text_io is not working correctly.

    I have an odd issue which i could do with some help with. I run an function that exports to CSV based on an pre defined record group.
    This has been working fine for many months with various customers. Recently a new customer used it and they have 28k rows in his record group and the export is actually not exporting correctly.
    The record group has a record count of 28331.
    The CSV produced has only 3756 in my CSV file. These are the last 3756 records in the Record group so its as if its overwriting the data as it goes yet all smaller datasets work

    In my application export to csv open like a raw data in new tab.
    But other browsers working great!.
    Need to open in a csv file or save it as a csv file.
    Please suggest me. Thank you in advance!.

    Hi Adrian,
    Why don't you try any another software for opening CSV files then Notepad ? According to my experience, you can use these softwares to open an CSV files and they are:-
    Microsoft Excel
    Open Office Calc
    Google Docs
    Also there is an additional tool available known as CSV viewer. You may try this, download it from here http://www.csvviewer.com/
    I've never used Notepad for opening CSV files, because sometimes it contains some symbols which are not not at all compatibile with Notepad.

  • Display data from CSV file in iWeb page

    Hi,
    I like to display data from a CSV file in iWeb page if a date value from CSV file matches todays value from the system. Here is an example.
    CSV data values
    01/20/2011,Sunny,87
    01/21/2011,Cloudy,100
    01/22/2011,Rainy,60
    If today's date value is 01/21/2011 the page should display 01/21/2011 Cloudy 100 in a tabular format.
    Appreciate your help in providing HTML code for this issue.
    Thanks

    I suspect there is a soft return in the excel database somewhere that can't be seen. Take the csv/txt file into notepad and look for a line that starts oddly compared to the others.
    I haven't had luck removing soft returns from excel files so I do this a rather odd way. I take the excel file into InDesign as a table, and then use find/change to replace any soft returns with nothing, then convert the text to table and then export the text out again by going export, and selecting text from the dropdown menu.
    For my money, I always save tab delimited text files from excel so that if a field does contain commas, it doesn't "trick" indesign into thinking a new field is beginning or not... instead the field delimiters are tabs and they are unlikely to have been used in the excel database.
    If you do choose to use this indesign import method of mine to clean up the database, i also noticed two things in your screengrab: first was that some fields have spaces at the start of the text... easy enough to fix with a GREP that looks for ^\s (start of a sentence followed by a space) and replace with nothing. The second thing is the T&C field that all entries (at least in the screengrab) all start the same – if all entries in the database start the same, couldn't that line be in the indesign file? Its only a small detail I know.

  • Hide column in SSRS is not working while exporting to CSV format.

    Hi,
    I have a report where some columns are hidden based on parameter value. When I export to Excel all the hidden columns are hiding which is fine, but the issue is when I exported to CSV all the hidden columns are exporting to csv.
    I tried to using  " =IIF(Globals!RenderFormat.Name = "CSV", True,False)" in Column visibility but It is not working. When I select Hide option it is working fine. But I want to hide based on expression.
    Any help !!!!!!!!

    Hi sumancv,
    In SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), we can control whether an item is visible in CSV separately from whether an item is visible in other renderers. As Shahfaisal Muhammed posted earlier, the CSV renderers use the DataElementOutput property to control
    visibility. When an item has DataElementOutput=Output, it will appear in the CSV.  When an item has DataElementOutput=NoOutput, it will not appear in CSV.
    Based on my test, we cannot use expression to control column visibility in the report when it is export to CSV.

  • Automatise data export from website

    Hello,
    I stuck with an issue regarding data export from scopus.com. I have 61 keywords for which I want to export (as csv) number of documents by year, country, document type, subject area. Doing that by hand would be extremely tedious. Thus my question if this can be automatised. Unfortunately scopus does not provide an API to access the data directly.
    So, the process to be automatised would be:
    1. Open http://www.scopus.com/home.url
    2. Enter the keyword in "search for"
    3. Click on "search"
    4. Click on "Analyze results"
    5. Click on tab "year" and "export". Save the file
    6. Click on tab "country" and "export". Save the file
    6. Click on tab "document type" and "export". Save the file
    6. Click on "subject area" and "export". Save the file
    Do programs exist that help me retrieving the data?
    Thanks!

    You could achieve your goal with bash and wget with some combination of --save-cookies --post-data.
    But be aware that scopus is run by Elsevier, whom many view as the most evil of the publishing companies. Think twice before doing something that may annoy them.
