Exporting or Saving for InDesign after creating in Photoshop CS2 ?

Hi
I have created a design mainly using dingbat fonts in Photoshop CS2 and want to save it (I think as a TIFF) for use in InDesign CS5.
I have tried but when I 'place' to TIFF image in InDesign the quality looks terrible, can someone please advice on what i might be doing wrong?
The documnet has been created as 600dpi, A5 so 21cm x 14.8cm and I have the colour set for CMYK.
When I'm saving the file I'm offered TIFF options, including image compression, for which I have chosen JPG and Maximum quality 12, I've attached a screenshot of the TIFF options.
As I say any help you can provide who be greatly appreciated, the design if for a brochure and it needs to be as clear as the software will allow.
Regards
Ash

Without seeing how the design was created in Photoshop it's hard to give an exact answer.
However, as D Fosse mentioned, if the text in Photoshop are still "live text layers" (editable - not rasterized) you should save as a Photoshop PDF and place this in InDesign.
While both Photoshop PSD and Photoshop PDF can save intact text layers as vectors within Photoshop, only Photoshop PDF will keep the text vectors when placed in InDesign.
Text layers in a Photoshop PSD file will be rasterized at the resolution of the Photoshop document when placed in InDesign.

  • Artwork shifting when exporting or saving for web?

    Have been creating some simple icons in Illustrator (CS 5.5), but the artwork is shifting when I try to export. For example, I'll create a 30x30px artboard, draw the icon inside the artboard, end export as a PNG. When I do this, even though the artwork is completely within the bounds of the artboard (no drop shadows or anything like that that would extend outside the artboard), there is some slight clippling that occurs in the exported icon. It's like Illustrator is shifting the artwork to the right and/or down 1 pixel as it exports.  Any ideas what might be happening here?
    In the meantime, as a work-around I've just been copying the artwork from Illustrator, pasting it into a 30x30px canvas in Photoshop, pasting the artwork, adn then doing Save for Web. This works fine, but is an extra step that I'd rather not have to do.

    Jacob,
    I tried enabling "Use Preview Bounds" as you suggested, but it still showed everything within the artboard. This was as expected since I set the button stroke for inside alignment rather than centered alignment when I created it.
    I've attached an image showing the icon in 3 states. The left most image is the icon as it appears in Illustrator shown within the artboard. Actually the artboard was created by clicking on the icon.  When "Use Preview Bounds" was enabled, it lined up perfectly with the artboard lines.  The middle image shows the icon in the Save for Web dialog preview. You can see that it already looks shifted.  The last image on the right shows the exported icon where the right and bottom edges looked cropped.
    As I mentioned, if I create a 30x30px canvas in PS, copy the artwork into it, and export using Save for Web for PS, it looks fine.
    Thanks for your help, BTW.

  • Losing quality when saving for web after using Multiply

    I have a normal photograph, with a red layer on top set to Multiply/Darken. When I save it for web, regardless of what pixel size, or what uploader I use the quality is terrible.
    Have tried uploading to different services, from difference devices with the same issue, so assume it's a colour profile thing.
    Any help appreciated.
    Image shows the difference in quality compared to normal.

    DPI is pixel size and images are not displayed on screens with the pixels sized as specified in images resolution setting.  The images pixels are displayed on displays with pixels the size the display is run with.  So web images display on display, display with different sizes and resolution depending on the users display device.
    Images saved for web display should be saved with sRGB colors for many image viewers are not color managed and assume web images have sRGB colors.
    So you images will display differently on different displays and no matter how you save them colors will vary  displays may  not be calibrated all displays do not have the same color capabilities.
    The best you can do is calibrate your display and save them with sRGB colors jpeg or png files that display well  and look good on your calibrated display.
    Most desktop displays are 100DPI resolution displays where newer  tablets and laptop have high resolution displays 200 to 300DPI.  Even new Desktop 4k display have lower resolution.  I believe the highest resolution 4K display in production is the Dell 24: display . Its resolution is 185DPI.   Out of production is IBM's old 4K display which had a 204DPI resolution.

  • Dual-core or Quad-core for Premiere, After Effects, and Photoshop CS4?

    We are planning to purchase around 25 computers for a computer lab for working with CS4 Production Premium at the high school level.  Mainly Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Photoshop.  Our budget is, unfortunately, a mere $550-$625 per machine (just the tower though, we have monitors).  I've already established that a 64-bit operating system makes a significant difference in the performance, even though Photoshop is the only 64-bit application, and I'm now hung up on whether or not it's worth the cost of a quad-core processor over a dual-core.
    I'm discovering the different hardware needs for each application, so I'm trying to find an economic balance that will give me the best performance per buck.  It seems that Premiere benefits significantly from more cores (we're editing 1440x1080 AVCHD), and this article over at Tom's Hardware has convinced me that I don't want to compromise with a hyperthreaded dual-core for After Effects.
    I'm also struggling with what part the graphics card plays in the mix.  Which applications lean on the graphics card, and will it make much difference as long as I meet the requirements (OpenGL 2.0, Shader Model 3.0, Direct3D 10, and 256 Mb Ram)?
    I understand I will need to settle for less-than-awesome with my budget, but I'm already making sacrifices to get the number to $625.  I would like to make sure that those sacrifices will be worth it for a quad-core system.

    I think I may have answered my own question by looking at these charts over at Tom's Hardware:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts-update-1/Adobe-Premiere-Pro-CS4 ,1404.html
    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/2009-desktop-cpu-charts-update-1/Adobe-Photoshop-CS-4,1 387.html
    http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/desktop-cpu-charts-2010/Video-Editing-Adobe-After-Effec ts-CS5,2427.html
    I  think that the jump to the quad core in Premiere Pro is worth it, even if I  don't see as large of an improvement in Photoshop or After Effects.  I am still interested in the role of the graphics card in the mix if anyone can shed some light on that.  Will an integrated graphics card (like an Intel GMA x4500 or Radeon HD4200) suffice or will I need an actual graphics card to realize the benefits?
    Thanks

  • COLOR ISSUES after edit in Photoshop CS2

    OK, I have posted this before and I am surprised that I seem to be the only one with this issue since no one has responded.
    I take a RAW file in lightroom, do some adjustments in the Develop Module and then pass off the file to Photoshop CS2 for more work (editing a copy). I do the work in photoshop and save the file. The thumbnail and the preview in lightroom do NOT match the work I did in photoshop. Everything is correct except the color. It is VERY washed out.
    If I look at the file in photoshop it is fine.
    Color space in both programs is ProRGB. Monitor is calibrated and I have not had any color issues before this. Additonally it only happens on some files. Is there something that I could have done differently that I don't realize that is making the difference?
    ANY help would be appreciated.

  • Permanately Saving Color Settings and Profile in Photoshop CS2

    Hello,
         We have Photoshop CS2 for Windows and Photoshop CS2 for Mac. I have custom color setting .csf files and .icc profile we want to load in Photoshop permanently. If I use the load option in Photoshop it appears the color settings will load these settings temporarily. If I choose another color setting and go back to the custom settings, I will have to reload the settings again.
    Is there a way to permanately have the color settings permanately appear in the list without having to load by using options in the Photoshop menu?
    Now I know if I manually drop the .csf or .icc file in the below folders located in the below path, the settings will permanately appear i, but I don't know if there is an easier way using the menus within Photoshop to permanatly load these or do we have to manually install these files to get this done. Trying to give out directions on how to do this would like to know if there is an easier way.
    On Windows:
    in Windows, it's inside Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Color\Settings.
    On MAC:
    Library\Application Support\Adobe\Color\Settings folder;

  • Need help for getBindingContext() after Creating Entry.

    Hi Developers,
    I am Creating a entry using Model.create() method in my 1st View.
    oModel.create('/ProspectSet', oEntry, null, function(oData,oResponse){
       oEvent.getSource().getParent().close();
       sap.m.MessageBox.alert("Prospect No " + oData.Partner + " created successfully");
        },function(oError){
        oEvent.getSource().getParent().close();
        sap.m.MessageBox.alert("Failed to create Prospect");});
    Now after successfully creating the entry here I need to navigate to my 2nd view and display the Entity which was just created. I don't know how to get the binding context of the newly created Entry.
    I am using this.nav.to("Detail", context); for Navigation.

    Hi Amit,
    You can use the function drill down ,if you want to drilldown based on product then based on location ,then the logic should be like this
    Drill Down on Product
    DRILL_DOWN( '9AMATNR' )
    Drill Down on Location
    DRILL_DOWN( '9ALOCNO' )
    Scheduling the job in background
    1)Create activity using the transaction /n/sapapo/mc8t,there you define the macro which you going to execute in background and planning book and dataview which having the macro.
    2)Create background job using /n/sapapo/mc8d,there you can define the activity which you created recently and select the aggregation on which you are going to execute the job.
    3) Go to SM36 ,there you the program as /SAPAPO/TS_BATCH_RUN then give the background job name as variant.
    Execute the job,it can be immidiate or periodic.
    Please let me know if you need more information.

  • Script for InDesign CS6 - create multiple, prenamed layers

    I created a script for Illustrator CS6, in ExtendScript Toolkit, that will create multiple, prenamed layers...see below...
    //Apply to myDoc the active document
    var layerName = LayerOrderType;
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    //define first character and how many layers do you need
    var layerName
    var numberOfLayers=0;
    //Create the layers
    for(var i=0; i<=numberOfLayers; i++)
    { var layerName = ":: GRADIENT";  var myLayer = myDoc.layers.add(); myLayer.name = layerName;  }
    { var layerName = ":: STRIPES";  var myLayer = myDoc.layers.add(); myLayer.name = layerName;  }
    { var layerName = ":: LEGAL";  var myLayer = myDoc.layers.add(); myLayer.name = layerName;  }
    { var layerName = ":: BLK BAR";  var myLayer = myDoc.layers.add(); myLayer.name = layerName;  }
    { var layerName = ":: FLAME";  var myLayer = myDoc.layers.add(); myLayer.name = layerName;  }
    { var layerName = ":: LOGO/TYPE";  var myLayer = myDoc.layers.add(); myLayer.name = layerName;  }
    { var layerName = ":: TRIM,ETC";  var myLayer = myDoc.layers.add(); myLayer.name = layerName;  }
    { var layerName = ":: LOEC INFO";  var myLayer = myDoc.layers.add(); myLayer.name = layerName;  }
    // Moves the bottom layer to become the topmost layer
    if (documents.length > 0) {
    countOfLayers = activeDocument.layers.length;
    if (countOfLayers > 1) {
    bottomLayer = activeDocument.layers[countOfLayers-1];
    bottomLayer.zOrder(ZOrderMethod.BRINGTOFRONT);
    else {
    alert("The active document only has only 1 layer")
    I tried to use this exact code to replicate the same scenario in InDesign but it doesn't work.
    Can anybody help me out!?
    Thanks in advance

    Marijan Tompa's scripts are very nice and useful, however, for this simple task you can try create your own wiht this code:
    app.activeDocument.layers.add ({name: "GRADIENT", layerColor: UIColors.red});
    app.activeDocument.layers.add ({name: "STRIPES", layerColor: UIColors.lightBlue});
    app.activeDocument.layers.add ({name: "LEGAL", layerColor: UIColors.gray});
    //merge existing document layer to bottom layer (in this case original layer will be merged to 'GRADIENT')
    var myDocument = app.documents.item(0);
    var myLayerA = myDocument.layers.item(2);
              var myLayerB = myDocument.layers.item(3);
              myLayerA.merge(myLayerB);
    alert("Layers created!");
    assume, your document has one layer.
    Script creates three new layers, they appear in Scripts palette in this order:
    LEGAL
    STRIPES
    GRADIENT
    and merges 'old' layer to bottom layer of newly created set (GRADIENT).
    sure, you can add as much layers as you need, just don't forget modify LayerA and LayerB numbers accordingly.
    Or disable second part of the script at all, if you don't want anything to be merged.

  • Cure for crash after creating a RAID group on external drives?

    I tried creating a RAID 1 mirror group on a pair of Western Digital Studio LX Firewire-attached 2 TB external drives (new), and Lion crashed with the RAID code on the stack (according to the crash report).   The system always crashes the same way if I connect even one of the drives, at boot time or later.  The RAID group was of the whole drives, not a pair of partitions.   I was using a Mac Mini, but I expect my MacBook, also running Lion, will crash the same way, if I try to attach the drives to repartion them.   I suppose I can attach the drives via USB to a Linux box to clobber the partition tables.
    Is there a way to set up RAID 1 on Lion which does not lead to an immediate crash?
    I have been a happy Mac user, but shipping with RAID 1 being so badly broken is really careless.   I expect a lot better.

    I set up a mirror raid on two external USB drives, and set to 256k under osx 10.7.5 then got the full melt down
    and the same every time i tried to reformat the drives.
    I did notice a slight moment of time when opening disk utility before the crash!
    The following worked for me.
    Start the computer, insert just one of the USB or Firewire drives then open disk utility.
    Here is the key point as fast as you can select the drive icon as soon as it appears on the left  and hit the erase option
    don't worry about the type of format select the t hit the erase button as quickly as you can and again as the prompt comes up are you sure you want to erase the disk.
    Then repeat again on the second drive and then start the raid set up over again with blocks set at 128k.
    Probably advised to unmount all other drives so you do not accidentally format the wrong drive given this is all about haste.
    Really hope this helps and think it through as to how it relates to your set up.

  • After effects and photoshop ,,,help please

    hi all
    can anybody help please.
    ive been making a short film with my son and putting some basic effects in, just for a laugh.
    i noticed an effect on ADOBE TV that was done by Gareth Edwards in his movie MONSTERS which i thought would be good to try out in my film but i carnt get it right,,
    here is the link to that effect...            http://tv.adobe.com/watch/customer-stories-video-film-and-audio/monsters/
    its the effect where he changes the menu board in a cafe to one of his infected area signs, he allso changes a few other signs.
    in the video he say that he exports a still frame from after effects into photoshop and puts on his image {with a few tweaks her and there}, when hes got it ok in photoshop ,it some how updates in after effects??
    can any please help ,thank you

    It's a simplified explanation of the process.  He left out explanations of motion tracking and perspective matching that were most certainly required for the shot being discussed.
    If you are doing the same process to a static, locked off shot, with no foreground objects passing in front of your sign, it would be very possible to create a single frame in Photoshop and just layer it over your scene in AE.  But once the camera moves, you will need to understand Motion Tracking.  If objects pass in front of the replaced component, you will need to understand Masking.
