External CSS styles to show up in WYSIWYG editor in admin section

Can anyone tell me how to get my external CSS styles to show up in the WYSIWYG editor of the admin section?

Insert a div box background for one document only while using external CSS style sheet.

I am trying to set a background image in one of my div boxes, but because I am using an external style sheet it changes it in all my documents. How can I do it with just this one page? Preferably in design mode.

What i did to slove this problem was:
Open my external CSS style sheet
Copy the contents of it
Remove the CSS link in the one page i wanted to be different.
Pasted the contents in the <head> under the rest of the CSS rules for that page.
Then I could set the background for that box w/o altering the other pages..
I tried the other suggestions, but could not get them to work. Not saying they are wrong, but maybe i was implementing them wrong.

Problem with Css styles not showing in live view or when i browse

I am using Mac osx 10.6 and building website with Dreamweaver CS5. Sometimes div tags i create not showing styles or rendering in live view or when I browse but showing in design view. I looked in dreamwever faq and they talk about not showing in design view to toggle the display styles. That is not the problem becuase it is check marked and I tried turning off and turning on and made no difference.I am using firefox browser.
It happened before the other day too. But all of my other pages in this site that i have created the same way building with div tags and css styles. So not sure what the problem is. Maybe someone has a suggestion here.

Dreamweaver very slow when linking to external CSS style sheets

I'm working on a site on my PC using Dreamweaver CS6. When I link to external style sheets, Dreamweaver virtually grinds to a halt. Just clicking from one line to another can take up 10 seconds. My PC is high spec, i3720, stripes set drives and 32gb ram.
I have tried deleting the cache no change. The external css files are part of the site and the site has been rebuilt . Can somone help with this as it is seriously impacting my ability to use Dreamweaver.

Hi Murray, the RAM comments were irrelevant, pointless. 32GB RAM vs 4GB RAM? Sorry, I worked at Microsoft and as a systems integrataion consultant for a number of years. 32bit programmes don't access RAM the same as 64bit, but, having 32gb with a 64Bit OS means RAM usage for a 32bit programme is better managed. Programmes and data files are on seperate drives. My data files kept are on 3 disk stripe sets.
The CSS files and the HTML file are on the same drive. AS an example of performance for data read/writes, I also use Photoshop CS6 to edit images in excess of 2gb in size containg multiple smart object, and I dont experience this type perormance lag.
In this case, RAM is mainly irrlevent because the file are small, approx 200kb total combined size. I mentioned RAM in my initial post because any time I've had problems with Adobe products before, I've always been asked how much RAM I have.
So, can we please drop RAM, and perhaps focus on the problem....
Dreamweaver, regardless of what background processes I have running, regardless of how much RAM I have, regardless of where the files are kept, has a significant performance hit when editing an HTML file with links to multiple CSS files.

Some of my CSS Styles arent showing up. Any Clues?

External CSS styles not working in Flash

I have a text area component and it loads external text files
into the area.
Works great. Now my client needs to have some simple tabular
data in there
.. 3 columns by 3 rows, one value per cell. But Flash doesn't
support table
tags in html formatting .. so I'm looking at CSS as an
option. The list tag
is supported so I'm trying to make my table cells into list
items and
display them inline with a left and right margin to simulate
a table row.
No luck so far.
Can anyone tell me if this is even possible? And if not .. is
there any way
to get this to look like what a table would look?

Hi Ben, I ammended this line of code as you have shown and still I have no joy. So I reverted to an older version which was correct, but i am stil having the same issue.
I have a my_site folder (defined local root folder), with the index.dwt in it. In my_site there is also an assets folder with 3 further folders, CSS, JS and Images and their respective files in these.
Bregent. Thanks, I did define at set up. I went back to manage sites and checked there too and thr root file on the local is the same at set up. I just don't get why after I made changes to the carousel and and reiploaded the site I have had issues :-(
Any other places I should be looking people? This is driving me crackers!

CSS Styles are Missing in WYSIWYG Editor

I have had this problem in the past but I am working on my busisnes catalyst site in dreamweaver and then I connect and upload my files through the FTP Connection in the business catalyst plugin for Dreamweaver CS4. The problem I am having is that the CSS Styles that I create in a seperate CSS document and upload to the stylesheets folder are not showing up in the WYSIWYG editor. I have tried to modify the link in the head section of my html and I have tried to upload them through FTP and also the Media manger in the admin panel. How do I get my styles to show up in the editor?

I've confirmed that my CSS classes are showing up in the Apply CSS Class dropdown of the editor for Web Pages and for Site Editor (ICE), but NOT in the editor for a Web App item description. Initially, this was the only place I was checking which was why I thought it wasn't working at all.
Besides this, I've found that applying CSS classes in Site Editor does not work if the selection you are applying the class to is an anchor (for example, a selected class gets applied to heading tags once you deselect the text). If I have applied a class to an anchor from the admin editor or ftp then I select that anchor in Site Editor, the applied class appears as selected in the CSS dropdown, but if I try to change the class in Site Editor by selecting a different class, it does not set the class or have any affect on the existing class.
Has anyone else had these issues or found solutions?

How to use external CSS for standard items ?

I would like to use my external CSS style-sheet for the standard items I add to my portal page.
I build an UI template with a CSS-link to my css style-sheet, and I used this UI template for my portal page. But it seems that items cannot use this UI template CSS reference.
Is there a way to use external CSS on standard items (text, url,...) ?

Easiest way I find to do it is to drop your css file in the portal/images folder. Make a hidden html portlet on your template and link to /images/mycss.css. You can then use it for many items such as text, links, html portlets, etc.

How to Live View with external CSS files?

I am using a simple HTML page that references several external CSS style sheets. The style sheets are site root relative. The code validates.

In Dreamweaver, the page looks good in Design View. Previewing in a browser looks good when the box to save temporary files is checked (replaces css inline for the input to the browser.)
However the page is missing the CSS and an image that is site root relative when I try to view it with Live View.
Does Live View only work with a test server? I tried setting up a test server that points to the remote server but that does not seem to help.
I am sure I am missing something. Can someone please help?

Non-embedded CSS no longer showing

I recently wanted to modify the contact of a page for a site I maintain, and noticed that all of a sudden some of the CSS styles stopped showing in Design View. When I preview the page in a browser, it shows up fine. These styles are not included in the linked style sheet that contains all of the similar styles and classes that apply to the entire site. These are just a few that are needed for the one page only. Dreamweaver seems to want to place styles directly after the <title> tag. I am working off of a template file that I created in Dreamweaver, and the CSS that is there now worked in the past.
If anyone can help me fix this, I would really appreciate it.

For me this is more a matter of order and cleaning than knowledge...
So please try to simplify your code this way :
1) Put all the styles in just one paragraph, you are currently opening too many <style type="text/css"> and in many places, you even have javascript in the middle of them...
2) Review the CSS file you are attaching to this HTML page, perhaps you could give the same name to more than one style with different appearances and one of them is being accomplished , not the other...
3) You can also call more than just one CSS page. Although this is just for this page, does not matter... call it firstpage.css if you want, but it will help you to have a cleaner code, and on easy codes, it is far easy to find mistakes...
If it continues, we'll see exactly which one is the style you are calling and it "does not" behave like that... ok ?

Unexpected error when linking CSS style-sheet

I have been working on this site for over a month now. I have
a linked external CSS style sheet and everything has been working
seamlessly between Dreamweaver and the web. Today, I tried to
create a template and then disliked it, so I deleted it. After
doing that, my CSS rules were no longer displaying properly EVEN
THOUGH my formatting and everything has remained the same.
I have a feeling there is something cached behind the scenes
that is messing this all up. Community assistance is greatly
appreciated. This is not the first time I've been unable link a CSS
stylesheet.

Css style sheet not linking

I am fairly new to dreamweaver and css. I have created an
html page and I created an external css style sheet for it. When I
preview it in my browser, it works, but when I FTP it and check the
site on the server, the html page doesn't "refer" to the css page
that I created. I checked my remote view of the server, the style
sheet is there and the source for the web page says that it should
be refering to it.
Here's the link to my page. It's a school project. I only
have the first page created for it so even tho there are rollovers,
there are no pages linked them, so just ignore that.

If you go look at the arts and crafts page you will see that it has
a style sheet that links just fine to it, and I created it in the
same way. I'm at a loss here, since I'm really new to this web
design stuff.
BTW, I'm using Dreamweaver MX 2004 right now. I'll upgrade as
soon as I get my new computer, but either way, I don't think that
using an earlier version of the software is what is creating the
problem, right?

returns a
403 (Forbidden) error. An imaginary stylesheet whose name I
entered
returned a 404 (File not found). In the other project which
had an
external stylesheet, there was no problem. So - it sounds
like a
permission issue on silversparkstyle.css. I'm not sure if
MX04 has a
file permissions 'thing' built in; if not, you'll either have
to get an
FTP client which does file permissions (FileZilla for Windows
http://filezilla.sourceforge.net/
does), or use a terminal app (SSH, like
putty, in preference to Telnet) to log in and change the
permissions.
