F1 Help in CS4

Hello, I have a question about setting the default browser that will be used to display help when pressing the F1 key inside of any CS4 product? I cannot seem to figure out where this setting is? Presently, it must be set to use FireFox which is installed on my computer but not my default browser application. I would like to change this setting to use my default browser.
Any help would be appreciated!

I had a similar situation after installing CS4. My default browser in internet options was Iexplorer but when accessing help in any CS4 application my browser would come up Opera. I resolved this by open registry in regedit and under HK_Classes_Root/Http the default was set to Opera. I changed this to "MyPath\iexplore.exe" and now help comes up in Internet explorer as I want it to. If you check this reg entry, yours should say firefox or Mozilla depending on your set up. Please be very careful if you do not know what you are doing messing with the registry can cause major machine malfunctions. Always back up the registry so that you can restore if needed. Also carefully, document every change in case you need to undo. Hope this helps.

Need help with CS4 transitions

Hi,
I am trying to use a cross dissolve transition. To make it simple, I have two clips. I'm obviously doing something wrong here. I've watched the Adobe TV tutorial and all the guy does is to select cross dissolve from the effects box, and drags it over to the clip on the timeline. I think I am doing the exact same thing, but when I play my clip back, I can see no transition effect played back.
Maybe I'm putting it in the wrong place I thought, so I tried putting it in front of the split between the two clips. Then again at the beginning of the second clip. Neither of them worked, so I shut CS4 down, and booted it up again. I started a new project, and put two new clips in it. I put the dissolve transition at the beginning of the second clip, and it worked like a charm. Then to see if that was a fluke, went to a point about 3 minutes earlier in the timeline. So now I am on clip one. I go and make a cut in the timeline, and try to place another Cross dissolve at this spot. It appears to place the transition there because it creates the rectangular box, and it has the name cross dissolve in that rectangular box,but when I try to play it to see the transition, it isn't working. Go back to the beginning of the second clip, and that one still works perfectly.
I noticed that there is a difference in the appearance of the two cross dissolve rectangular boxes. The one that works has a single diagonal line that goes from lower left to upper right in the cross dissolve box, and then there are a whole series of diagonal lines that go from upper left to lower right all across the cross dissolve box . It looks like a whole bunch of dark gray and white backslashes. In the one that doesn't work, there is just that single diagonal line that goes from lower left to upper right. No backslashes on this one. What am I doing right in the first one, but not in the second?
I find that it will work perfectly if I put in a new clip. If I put in the Cross Dissolve at the beginning of a new clip that I add to the timelime, it will work perfectly. It is only when I try to split a clip that is already on the timeline, and then put the cross dissolve in at that point.
Perhaps it is not possible to do what I am attempting to do. Maybe you can't split a clip and place the transition at that point?

When I am shooting video, it is not unusual for me to be taping a scene of a mountain, for example, and then put the camera on pause, while I briefly position myself to take video of the river that is flowing at my feet. That is what is happened on this clip that I am attempting to put the transition in between. Rather than having the scene just instantly change at this point, from the mountain to the river, it would be nice to have a smoother transition then that.
My mind was working on the problem while sleeping last night, and I think I might understand how to handle it. It might have been too simple for me to think about yesterday. I haven't tried it yet, but would it not work, to insert the mountain scene from my source monitor into the timeline, and then go back and insert the river scene into the time line instead of inserting both of them at the same time. Would these not now be two separate clips on the timeline, and the transition could now be applied?
Your analogy with the DJ is very good, but it isn't quite the same. You are correct in that he would be only fading from one song to the same spot on the same song. In my case I am going from an image of a mountain to an image of a river. Same clip, but different images. I appreciate the help, and your thoughts.

Help: Photoshop CS4, Opens Adobe Help Website Automatically. Stuck in a loop.

Hello there!
I am having an issue with Adobe Photoshop CS4 (part of Creative Suite Web edition). Any action, including switching to the Photoshop windows automatically swaps out to Firefox and opens the Adobe help website.
My current action was converting a pentool path to a selection when the problem began.
I'm using Windows 7 on a PC. Any help on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there and thank you for responding. :-)
I chose poor wording. I wasn't using a predefined action when the problem started. I used the pen tool to create a path and then right clicked to open the drop down, selected make selection and the error occured when the make selection dialogue box opened.
The Adobe help site then opened in Firefox. Returning to Photoshop, even just by alt-tab swapping back resulted in the help site opening again.
Ultimaty, I didn't find a solution, and used the task manager to force Photoshop to quit/crash.
I've had the error pop up once or twice before, but it is infrequent. I'd just like to try to find a preventitive method or solution, as so far, any time it's started, the only thing I can do is force Photoshop to quit completely.
I'm very sorry that I can't provide screenshots, but I hope that the explaination and additional system informaion might help.

Please Help Me -- CS4 Design Premium and CS4 Production Premium on Same Machine

We are a non-profit organization that gets donated software at a great price but you're limited to what's available. We bought the CS4 Design Premium Suite last year (CDs). I called the Adobe sales department to find out if I could run CS4 Design Premium on the same machine. They told me that I could. So I bought CS4 Design Premium as a download. It took a tremendous amount of time just to download the package, and once installed Premiere Pro would not run properly. I called tech support and spent 9+ hours on the phone and no resolution. They had me doing everything -- uninstalled both packages six times. They kept telling me I didn't have enough RAM (and I knew that was wrong because I have been editing using AVID before deciding to go with Adobe -- and I had the CS3 Adobe Premiere Pro, Soundbooth and Encore running on my E drive with no problem before I went ahead and bought CS4 Production Premium).
I took my computer back to the company that built it and they suggested that I replace my graphics card and sure enough, Premiere Pro worked fine. Everything seemed to work fine in both packages except Adobe Acrobat. When I opened a pdf file, Acrobat asked for a serial number, but wouldn't accept my Design Premium serial number. I called tech support thinking they would give me a different serial number for Acrobat or something simple. Needless to say after 3 hours, and uninstalling the software again, they told me I couldn't run two CS4 suites on the same computer. Then a supervisor told me I could run both suites, but I would need to run a cleanup program, uninstall both of my suites and start again!
All software in CS4 Design Premium installs except Acrobat. It is grayed out on the install screen as if it's already installed, and when I try to open a pdf file, the installer pops up, installs Acrobat, and asks for a serial number. When I enter the serial number, it gives me a red "x".
SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!
I don't know where to turn now ... is there anybody in the United States that I can get help from?
Can Adobe deactivate my CS4 Design Premium and Production Premium and send me the Master Collection CS4?

what i don't like about cs4 is
i can't enlarge for example the navigator palette , i can enlarge but only increase the donwn-right corner instead in the cs3 i can do clicking both the down right and left conrners , and have a nice navigator palette
may i do with cs4?

and is there a way to disable the move feature keeping on the gpu ON (enable the acceleration video card) ?
i mean
i don't like to use the hand tool and when i move the photos, it moves like a video game often go out of the monitor

Mantralightroom - you can get Photoshop back to CS3 (more fluid and less 'restricted') in this way - Turn Window/Application frame OFF. Now you have your (now three) screen modes behaving openly with the documents behind the panels. Unfortunately the panels are not quite as easy to resize, and dock together as they were in previous versions - but its still OK, and this should help you with the Navigator panel.

HELP DREAMWEAVER CS4 NOT SHOWING SWF FILES

I have a presentation in 2 days in Tokyo. And I'm panicking.
I'm on am Intel Mac OS X 10.4.11.
I have the latest version of Flash Player 10 installed. (Not the brand new beta version).
I created a great website in Dreamweaver MX a few years ago.
I never had ANY issues with .swf files displaying until using Dreamweaver CS4.
I updated my photography portfolios in Adobe Bridge, and used Dreamweaver CS4 to link the updates.
NOTHING MORE THAN THAT!
Then, NONE of the .swf files that were always viewable are showing.
There is absolutely NO Flash content showing on any page of the site now.
Not even in browser view in Safari, or Firefox.
I uploaded the files along with the newly created SCRIPTS folder to my server, and still no .swf files are viewable.
These are NOT FLV files they are .swf files that were imbedded properly, and were always viewable. Until now.
I have to go to Tokyo in two days and give a presentation of this site.
What is the problem?
The attached files show the view in Dreamweaver CS4. The view in Safari, and the view in Firefox.
I'm screwed for a desperately needed job in Tokyo if I can't get this fixed ASAP.
Please help.

where is this code located? in the source code of each page that has the swf files? i should replace it with the correct version you copy and pasted? and that should resolve the problem?

Help with CS4 and fireworks

Hey all, running out of time I am trying to set up a website for my sons baseball team this spring and I am in a little bit of a pickle. I am using DW CS4 and I have set up a slide show in fireworks CS4 as well, when I create the slideshow and test in a browser it works with no problem. Here is where the issue comes in to play, I create a sideshow using the the (player-black flash and when I import it into dreamweaver and set it up on my page I save the page and when I test I have no pictures show up. (I have included a screen shot) of what happens. I have tried different type of players and they all do the same thing. I have watched videos on how to import the slide show into dw and as far as I know that is not the problem. I have downloaded the most current version of adobe flash player but still no luck. And this is the one thing that everybody wants more than anything the pictures of games. Can anyone give me some help or suggestions, I have downloaded a software called visual sideshow, but I like the way fireworks looks and I plan on adding more slides as the year goes on. For what it is worth I have the copy of Adobe master collection CS4, but being new to web design and watching videos on fireworks it seem to be the easiest to learn. Can anyone give me some feed back on what I may be doing wrong. By the way I am using Win7 if that matters any

Help Improving CS4 Performance

I'm using Premiere CS4 on a Macbook with OS X 10.6.2. I have a new project with one video track and one audio track. The audio plays fine but the video doesn't. It isn't anywhere near real-time and often only renders a frame every few seconds. Exporting a six minute video/audio project can take 1.5+ hours. I'm not sure if it is my project settings or my machine. I'd like help trying to figure out where the bottle neck is.

Depending what happens Wednesday with Apple's new product launch, those specs might be improved. This question is more for someone that might already have a similar setup: Should I see a great improvement with that kind of system? How much affect does 4GB to 8GB RAM have?

First issue: the application exe file needs extracting? Is this correct? Sine the readme does not indicate this.
Second issue the .7z file - does this need also need extracting before it becomes useable?

HELP! CS4 Disk Will Not Work!

Hello All,
I need some serious help, Adobe support is closed today and I need CS4 to install. Here is my situation, I recently bought my imac along with cs4 and everything was working perfectly. On Saturday like an idiot, I tried to add PS to my dock and I accidentally moved my whole PS folder off of my HD. I put the folder back into my HD applications folder, but then when I tried opening an existing PS file, I received a message to reinstall PS. I put in my CS4 disk, click setup, put in my password, see the bouncing icon on my doc and then it just disappears, nothing happens. I uninstalled CS4 totally, even did the clean uninstall thing from Adobe, restored my OS and still nothing! I have been reading the forums and tried everything I read, I deleted the Library/Application Support/Adobe folder, I even deleted the Adobe folder within my Logs folder.
Here is the error I am receiving: "'std::runtime_error' Invalid path passed to FileSystemPath constructor".
Why can't I insert the disk and it work like it did when I first bought the disk! I am so frustrated!

Could you describe what you have tried?
To make sure you are copying the old sessionstore.js file to your currently active Firefox profile folder, you can open that folder from inside Firefox as follows (either):
* "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
* Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
* type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table on the page, click the "Show Folder" button
Please note that before touching the existing sessionstore.js file, you should exit Firefox and allow time for it to close files. Either:
* "3-bar" menu button > "power" button
* File menu > Exit
Then rename it to sessionstore.old before copying in the file you want to use.
Note: if Windows does not show .js extensions on file, please see the steps in this article to show them so you can work with files as accurately as possible: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/865219

Can anyone offer help using CS4 as external editor for iPhoto '08?

I am very new to CS4 Extended, having upgraded from Elements 6 recently. I use iPhoto '08 to do all my photo organization and really enjoy it, have a LOT of work invested in it and don't really want to switch to anything else if I can help it. One aspect I like about it is that it tucks away my original in case I ever need to revert. With Elements, I could set my iPhoto preferences to allow all my editing to be done externally using Elements 6, but it would only allow 4 photos to be sent over to Elements at a time. Then I would have to go back to iPhoto and "get" more. I thought that when I upgraded to CS4, I would at least be allowed four at a time to be sent from iPhoto to Photoshop for editing. Whenever I do this, it sends 1 or 2, possibly 3, but never four. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to it. I'm annoyed at having to constantly go back for one or two photos at a time to edit and wondered if anyone knew of a workaround for this problem. The reason I have done it this way all along is that the two programs would work together and update my iPhoto pics and thumbnails automatically. Since then, I have just opened the iPhoto files from within CS4, but the edit doesn't update the thumbnails, only the enlarged versions within iPhoto. Neither Apple nor Adobe has been able to offer any solutions. I am not looking to create multiple copies of my files. I download straight from my camera to iPhoto. I could always just download them to a folder, edit them in CS4 and then import them into iPhoto, but that would necessitate making a copy of the photos to keep the originals safe and I'm not sure I want to have to organize all my originals elsewhere on top of my iPhoto library. I am very open to suggestions!

You should ask at the Apple forums. very few if any actually use iPhoto here. Most use Aperture, Lightroom, and/or Bridge.

If you have English version of Flash, help will be in English. The only way for F1 to go to Russian help is to have the Russian version of Flash.

Help Files CS4

How can i access Help files in CS4 if i do not have internet access?

When i click Help or F1, it will launch Adobe Help in a browser but have no help information accessible when no internet access is available. I'm not sure how to force offline help.

Pls help with CS4 error!

I have been working with Dreamweaver CS4 for sometime now. I tried to open a file but it took forever so I tried to force quit it. Still it was not responding so I shut my computer down and waited for 30 minutes. I tried to open it again but after i click the icon it jumps on the dock for a few seconds and goes away. Now All my other CS4 applications will not launch either. I tried to delete preferences but nothing so I uninstalled it. I just installed a fresh CS4 copy but it still will not work/launch. Thank you. I am using mac OS 10.5 Leopard. Never had a problem with any CS4 before. All my other applications work well only Adobe CS4 will not

Always run disk utility before deleting prefs or reinstalling anything. Usually deleting prefs will cure what ails your apps. Use uninstall utility to uninstall apps if you have to go that route. Don't just drag them to the trash. The uninstall will remove all associated files for each apps. Be aware there are usually more than one pref file for an app.
