Family and friends think I live in the 19th centur...

Hello All!
I would be very grateful for any helpful advice. Over the last few months my not-so-great phone line turned into an unacceptable phone line. The crackling is so severe I have been unable to hold normal conversations with my family and friends for months now. The noise is absolutely horrendous, and after a few minutes it would disconnect by itself...
My family and friends can't believe I live in the 21st century. They think I phone from the past. My line sounds like an early analogue record - it's so distorted and unreliable. It's impossible to hold a conversation. Anyway...
Some of you might ask why i haven't reported it... Well... I have. Two openreach engineers visited my house in the summer. The last one identified the cable outside my house as the main culprit. Problem is, he is unable to climb the pole to which the cable leads as it is old and covered in ivy. He said that the old pole presents a problem for him, but he promised I'd hear back from openreach...
Weeks later and I still haven't heard back. I tried phoning BT so many times, but every time I phone they read the same script and suggest booking an engineer to find the fault. When I tell them that the fault has been found then they can't understand why I'm calling them! (no script for such situations I guess...).
I also tried phoning openreach but every time I mention a cable in need of replacement, they then ask if the cable poses any risks to members of public... I then say 'no'. They get confused, and so it continues on-and-on...
Is there a human being at BT to help me out? Or will I have to spend the rest of my days talking to overseas robots... :-(
How to get in touch with BT to be taken seriously?
Why do I even bother to pay my bill if I can't use the phone for months?
Will I ever be compensated for such poor service?
Whom should I contact?

Once contacting the BT care Team (Mods) they will reply either by phone or email usually within 3 to 6 working days, however you will be given a tracking number immediately after sending the request. Please keep this safe.
Please be aware that this timeframe does not include weekends and Bank Holidays. The timeframe will also vary during busy periods.
Each case is done in a strict rotation so once your mod request has reached the top of the BTCare Team's inbox then they will contact you.

    Background:  I started this blog while living overseas and going to sea with the Navy.  Missed the opportunity to move the iWeb files with content attached from the mobile.me server to another server.  Now, I have the original web archive files - good - but not the comments added to them by family and friends - bad.
    My ultimate objective is to create a hard-cover bound book of these files with the comments on the blog ... they document a rather significant experience in my family's life ... to do this, I need to recover the original files with postings.
    Any thoughts or insight would be sincerely appreciated!

    You have replied to a post that is a month old now and the OP has never replied, so you are probably wasting your time here.
    If you read the OP's post and my reply, you will see that he will not be able to recover his blog and neither will you.
    If your Mac was stolen and you did not back up your iWeb domain.sites files, then you CANNOT get your blog back. 
    If you published your site to a host/server, then you can download it back onto your Mac and you will have to re-build your blog/website from scratch and re-publish, but all your replies and responses to posts will be lost and you can never get these back.
    My advice would be to re-create your blog in another format such as WordPress.com which is free and don't use iWeb again.
    There are plenty of alternatives out there.

    I have a client that has a newborn and is excited to share pictures with family and friends....
    I plan on upgrading her iPhoto from 'o6 to 'o9 and set her up with a system to share pix.
    What are your thoughts on the most efficient service in terms of the ease in which folks can access the photos?
    My concern is if certain family members are not say - Facebook members this may pose a problem, etc.

    There is a very nice website for baby photos/video clips and other info that is more secure than some of the other networking sites. It is Babysites.com. You cannot directly upload from iPhoto, but just export the photos to your desktop and upload from there. It is worth a look.

    Apple updates POI data frequently, & pushes corrected data daily. Click on the "Report a Problem" link while in the Maps app. You'll be surprised how quickly it will get corrected.

    However, whenever I log in and then click "Manage Family and Friends", I am just
    taken back to the login page. I login again, and the same thing happens.

    How long ago is "recently"? Is the change effective NOW or at the beginning of your next billing cycle? You may need to call Customer service and have them add the numbers for you - at that point you might be able to access the feature.
    Try clearing your browser cache, using a different browser entirely, or go to MyVerizon on your phone... Menu >> Settings and Tools >> My Verizon (though trying to access that this morning, I'm not having any luck getting it to come up...it errors out and says the page has no data! GRRRRR!)

    If you all have individual Apple IDs, then you would be able to dowload music from a shared iTunes library on a computer, but you would not be able to sign on each individual ID on an iOS device in order to download music purchased under the original Apple ID without a 90-day waiting period between sign-ons.
    Here's what I mean:
    If you were to sign on a new Apple ID on, say, an iPhone, and then were to purchase and download some music from iTunes, then you would have to wait 90 days before you could sign on the old Apple ID to that iPhone in order to download previously purchased material (and vice versa).
    However, if all of the music purchased by that origjnal Apple ID is in an iTunes library on a shared computer, then you can hook up the device and selectively sync any music in that library to the device. You can also sign on any of the Apple IDs to that shared iTunes library and purchase music to be added to the library.
    You would need to authorize the computer for each of the new Apple IDs.
    Each of the Apple IDs would also be able to download that music purchased either by syncing to the iTunes library on the computer or by downloading it OTA on the device.
    So, each Apple ID can download music, movies, etc. purchased with that Apple ID OTA to the device. Also each Apple ID can sync any music, movies, etc. that are in the iTunes library on the computer regardless of who purchased them.
    The only other thing you would need to remember is that if an App needed to be updated, then the original Apple ID that was used to purchase that App would come up, and the password that goes with that Apple ID would be required to do the update.

I tried all possible solutions through apple online support and then went to apple store as a last resort and they turned me down that there is no support in the 2nd year. Only option is to pay 160 pounds and get replacement. When I argued further, they said that if I had bought the iphone directly with them, they would replace me without any cost. This is even more frustrating.
    THIS IS TOTALLY UNFAIR as its not my fault. If the release of faulty 7.0.4 software is timed in my 2nd year of contract and since I didnt buy the iphone directly from Apple, how is it fair to ask me to pay for replacement. Its not my fault after all.

    Because you are outside the one year hard ware warrenty, Apple covers for the first year on their dime, if you had a two year contract why not make sure you have a two year insurance on your phone?
    Either way as I can see/assume you are from europe you can look at your consumer laws to see if you qualify for anything there, beyond that it isn't the software that broke the device, it's a hardware failure because thousands upon thousands are happy and content with iOS 7.0.4

    Q: Is it possible to manage remote computers across the internet using ARD?
    Here's my background and why I ask the question...
    My family members and a handful of friends often ask me to assist with their Mac computer issues/questions. We all live in the same city, but in different homes. Each home has an Intel Mac, and I drive over when someone needs assistance. I'm moving out of state and I want to remote in to help them and manage their systems if possible. I've looked at LogMeIn and I like that idea (and it's cheap/free!) However, that'll only be useful if someone is at the computer from my understanding. I'm also looking at Apple Remote Desktop, and I enjoy the idea of being able to "manage" their computers too, instead of on-call troubleshooting. There are less than 10 computers, so I think it will only cost $299. Is this idea possible?

    How can you tell if paying for Family & Friends is good value? The numbers are not listed as they are updated automatically (trust us). The itemised bill detail doesn't show the full and discounted cost so have no idea if it's worth it. Seems the only way is to cancel it and see the effect on my bill in 3 months. Unless you know something I don't.

    Have a look at pages 19-21 here. You'd probably do better with an access number service, with calls from 1p a minute including mobiles.

    I'm switching to lightroom, so trying to buy the photography CC package, but I get stuck at the payment.
    The form has a non-editable country location, which it says is the US, but I live in the UK. How do I change that?
    I've been through the manage-account pages and cannot see any address at all. Is there somewhere else I can change it?
    I cannot get past the form, so my trial is going to run out soon :-/

    If you register both iPads with the same Apple ID, all your previously purchased apps will be available for free in App Store under the "purchased" tab.

    Your drive does need to be repaired, and best things to buy are another backup recovery drive, with a small OS X partition; a copy of Disk Warrior is expensive @ $90 but excellent and best.
    Never bother with or use the drive or reinstall while there are errors. Don't take a "clean' bill from Apple Disk Utility to mean there are no errors. Only that it didn't find what it looked for.

    Make sure to have multiple backup sets and of your system so if there is a serious problem, you can just erase and restore to be back runninig.
    Sounds like your G5 though needs PMU reset, not PRAM, and the best way for those is to clear nvram instead. might even want to check for dust; tell what System Profile says (later) as to "PowerMacX,Y" or "MacProX,1"

    The Utility menu is on the menu bar of an "OS X Install DVD" and at the point where you get to but stop at "install....' for OS X. you probably do need to install OS X on another drive to work from.
    Oh, a real severe issue and damage to the drive directory or filesystem CAN in cases prevent booting from DVD (the system still tries to find and see what boot volumes are present) and can help to pull or disconnect the drive. Putting a drive in a FW case to turn on after startup is very useful.
