Fastest way to execute java

Hi,

the JDBC/ODBC bridge.
Basically my problem is speed! Can anyone give me an
indication as to what it the fastest runtime engine
for implementing this kind of setup? Or any other
advice on improoving speed?
Thanks.A couple of thoughts:
1) You may want to check out the beta JDBC type 4 driver for SQL Server. My assumption is that it has been optimized specifcally for SQL Server while the JDBC-ODBC bridge has not. Then again it is still in beta, so you will have to decide what that means to you.
2) There is signficant overhead in the connect / disconnet logic for JDBC. For best performance open the connect once, and reuse the connection.
3) There is significant overhead in the parsing of SQL by the database engine. For best performance reuse the SQL whenever possible using a prepared statement.
4) Connection pooling, which I believe provides transaction queing and reuse (don't quote me) may be an option that can help control resource usage and reuse. You may want to look into this also.
5) If you are having performance problems, make sure your using optimal SQL. For example(s), using a simple statement like 'select count(*) from aTable' can cause a database engine to read every row in a table (a table scan). If you have large tables, this can kill performance. Be sure to cache frequently used tables and/or rows in the database buffers.
6) Be sure you are giving your database engine the necessary resources (memory, I/O and CPU) to do it's job. Never put log files or redo logs on RAID 5. Raid 1 (mirrored) is preferrable. Seperate index and data from the same table on different physical devices, or seperate RAID sets. Use RAID 1 (mirror) for OLTP whenever practical. For example Using RAID 1 rather than RAID 5 for OLTP order entry should improve performance by at least 30%.
7) If you are using Java 1.4, be sure you are using the -server option.
8) I'm sure there is lots more! But maybe this is already too much information....
Good luck,
Joel

    Thanks for your response.
    Could you please give me some sample on that like what type of event and on which component I have to set clientListener.

    I want to find a way to execute a command from the command line using a java program this is my code:
    import java.io.*;

              OutputStream out = proc.getOutputStream();
              System.out.println(out);
              out.write("test.txt".getBytes()); //I THOUGHT THIS WOULD WORK
              InputStream stdin = proc.getErrorStream();

    I hope my code is readable. I am trying to get the command prompt that comes up from the Runtime.exec() to run a file called "test.txt" I know it would be easier to just do it by executing it from java but I want to see if it is possible this way. I thought the out.write would do the trick but I was wrong. Somebody help please....

    First read this article:
    http://www.javaworld.com/javaworld/jw-12-2000/jw-1229-traps.html
    Second, you should probably send the Enter key to the shell if you want anything to happen. (Not that I know whether it will work, but I do know it won't work if you don't press Enter.)

  • Error while executing java stored procedure from a pl/sql procedure

    We have a requirement where we need to execute JAVA code stored in an Oracle database (Java Stored Procedure). This code uses some JAR files which we have already loaded without any errors in the database.
    The class file was also loaded in the database without any errors. But when we execute the method of this class (JAVA code), it gives the following error:
    ORA-29532: Java call terminated by uncaught Java exception:
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError
    Is there any way of debugging the code and getting to know where exactly the problem is? Or, any tool/software available for doing the same.
    Any pointers would be of great help!
    Thanks in advance

    Hi Uday,
    My guess is that there is a problem with your java stored procedure that is causing the "ExceptionInInitializer" error to be thrown. According to the javadoc:
    is thrown to indicate that an exception occurred during
    evaluation of a static initializer or
    the initializer for a static variable
    Since I didn't see any of your code in your post, I can't help you much more, I'm afraid. Perhaps if you would provide some more details, I may be able to help you some more. I think the following details would be helpful:
    1. Complete error message and stack trace you are getting.
    2. The section of your java code that you think is causing the problem.
    3. Oracle database version you are using.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

    its taking more time to execute .... that's y is there any other option to execute .exe file other than Runtime.getRuntime().exec("filename");Write proper English and you may be taken more seriously.
    1) it's not "taking more time to execute", whatever that's supposed to mean.
    2) there's no other way to execute something. Not that you should every use even that way anyway
    3) whenever you start thinking of executing external programs from Java, start thinking of not using Java in the first place.

  • Fastest way to grant cube permissions per AMO (250 roles, 30 cubes)?

    Hi there,
    can anybody tell me the fastest way to grant cube permissions in a scenario, where for example 250 roles have to be granted for 30 cubes?
    Now, I do it with AMO, iterating throgh the roles, setting cube permissions.
    My method for granting access looks like this:
    public void GrantCubePermission(Role pRole, Database pDatabase, string pCubeName, ReadAccess pReadAccess, WriteAccess pWriteAccess, ReadSourceDataAccess pReadSourceDataAccess, bool pProcess, ReadDefinitionAccess pReadDefinitionAccess)
    try
    if (pRole == null) return;
    Cube cube = pDatabase.Cubes.FindByName(pCubeName);
    if (cube == null) return;
    CubePermission cubePermission = cube.CubePermissions.FindByRole(pRole.ID);
    if (cubePermission == null)
    cubePermission = cube.CubePermissions.Add(pRole.ID);
    cubePermission.Read = pReadAccess;
    cubePermission.Write = pWriteAccess;
    cubePermission.ReadSourceData = pReadSourceDataAccess;
    cubePermission.Process = pProcess;
    cubePermission.ReadDefinition = pReadDefinitionAccess;
    cubePermission.Update(UpdateOptions.AlterDependents, UpdateMode.UpdateOrCreate);
    catch (Exception ex)
    Msg(ex.ToString(), "Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Error);
    Doing it this way, the operation tooks about 4 seconds per role (the given method is executed 30 times per role, the number of the cubes to be granted for).
    Finally, for 250 roles, the operation tooks about 16 minutes.
    Is there a way to do it faster?

  • Fastest way to compute C(i,j)=max(A(i,j),B(i,j))

    Hi Ppl,
    I just wanted to know, what could be the fastest way to pick the maximum element from a 2D array .
    That is i want to implement C(i,j)=max(A(i,j),B(i,j))
    I do not want to index each element and select the maximum of two, as it would take more time to execute.
    I tried the below method to implement this. The problem with this is, when a NaN is passed as input, NaN is returned
    as output, irrespective of the other input. I don not want this to happen.
    Can any one suggest a better method to implement this...?
    Solved!

  • Fastest way to access data between String and char[]

    Hi all,
    I've been programming a small String generator and was curious about the best and fastest way to do so.
    I've done it in two ways and now hope you can tell me if there is a "more java version" or fastest way between those two or if I'm totally wrong as some classe in the API already does that.
    Here are the codes:
    version 1:
            //describe the alphabet
         String alphabet = "abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz";
         //The "modifiable String"
         StringBuffer stringBuffer = new StringBuffer();
         //Just put the temporary int declaration outside the loop for performance reasons
         int generatedNumber;
         //Just do a "for" loop to get one letter and add it the String
         //Let's say we need a 8 letters word to be generated
         for (int i=0; i < 8; i++)
             generatedNumber = (int)(Math.random() * 26);
             stringBuffer.append(alphabet.charAt(generatedNumber));
         System.out.println(stringBuffer.toString());
         stringBuffer =null;version 2:
            //describe the alphabet
         char[] alphabetArray = {'a', 'b', 'c', 'd', 'e', 'f',
                        'g', 'h', 'i', 'j', 'k', 'l',
                        'm', 'n', 'o', 'p', 'q', 'r',
                        's', 't', 'u', 'v', 'w', 'x',
                        'y', 'z'}
         //The "modifiable String"
         StringBuffer stringBuffer = new StringBuffer();
         //Just put the temporary int declaration outside the loop for performance reasons
         int generatedNumber;
         //Just do a "for" loop to get one letter and add it the String
         //Let's say we need a 8 letters word to be generated
         for (int i=0; i < 8; i++)
             generatedNumber = (int)(Math.random() * 26);
             stringBuffer.append(alphabetArray[generatedNumber]);
         System.out.println(stringBuffer.toString());
         stringBuffer =null;Basically, the question is, what is the safest, fastest and more "to the rules" way to access a char in a sequence?
    Thanks in advance.

    Better, use a char[] instead of a StringBuffer/StringBuilder, since you seem to know the size of the array in advance.
    Although I imagine making "alphabet" a char[] has slightly less overhead than making it a String
    1. It's a lot clearer to write it as a String.
    2. You can just call toCharArray() on the String to get a char[], instead of writing out each char individually.
    3. Or if you're going to be using a plain alphabet, just use (randomNumber + 'a')
    And use Random.nextInt()Hello and thx for the answers,
    I know I shouldn't put constants in my code, it was just a piece of code done in 1 minute to help a colleague.
    Even if it was just a one minute piece of code, I was wondering about the performance problem on large scale calculating, I mean something like a 25 characters word for billions of customers but anyway, once again, the impact should be minimal.
    By the way, I didn't know the Random Class (shame on me, I still don't know the whole API) and, I don't understand why I should be using this one more than the Random.Math which is static and thus take a few less memory and is easier to call.
    Is it because of the repartition factor?
    According to the API, the Random.Math gives (almost) a uniform distribution whether the Random.nextInt() gives a "more random" int.

  • Is this the fastest way to copy files?

    I'm looking for a way to take 1 file and make many copies of it. Is this fastest way you know of?
    import java.io.*;
    import java.nio.channels.*;
    public static void applyFiles( File origFile, File[] files )
      FileInputStream f1 = new FileInputStream( origFile.getAbsolutePath() );
      FileChannel source = f1.getChannel();
      FileOutputStream f2[] = new FileOutputStream[ files.length ];
      FileChannel target;
      for( int x=0; x < files.length; x++ )
        if( origFile.getAbsolutePath() != files[x].getAbsolutePath() )
          f2[x] = new FileOutputStream( files[x].getAbsolutePath() );
          target = f2[x].getChannel();
          source.transferTo(0, source.size(), target);
    }

    2 questions from your code...
    1) I assume the last line should read
    out.write(buffer,0,numRead);
    2) Doesnt this just read in a piece at a time and write that piece to each file? Isn't that degrading performance to have so many files open and waiting at once? Would it make more sense to read into a StringBuffer, then write all the data to each file at a time?
    Thanks
    I'd have to say that your question is loaded. :)
    Without knowing anything about your target system, I'd
    have to say no, this is not the fastest way to copy a
    file to many files. This will end up reading the file
    once for every time you want to copy it. Which may
    work fine if the file is small, but not when the file
    that is being copied is larger then free ram. Or if
    the file channel implementation sucks.
    For the general case, where you don't know how big the
    file will be beforehand I'd say that this is a better
    algorithim.
    public static void oneToManyCopy( File source, File[]
    dest ) throws Exception(s) {
    FileInputStream in = new FileInputStream( source );
    FileOutputStream out[] = new
    w FileOutputStream[dest.length];
    for ( int i = 0 ; i < dest.length;++i)
    out[i] = new FileOutputStream(dest);
    byte buffer[] = new byte[1024]; // or whatever size
    e you like
    int numRead;
    while ( ( numRead = in.read(buffer,0,buffer.length)
    ) ) > -1 ) {
    for ( int i = 0 ; i < out.length; ++i )
    out.write(buffer,0,numRead);

  • Fastest way to check total number of rows from View ?

    Hello Everyone,
    Good Morning !!!!
    I am trying to know the exact number of rows from a view.
    I have total 262 columns in a view name vw_sample. First column name is col_1 and I do not have permission to view that. but I do have permission to view all other 261 columns. I want to know fastest way to know exact number of rows in this view vw_sample.
    How can i know that ?
    I tried below things.
    1) Tried using COUNT(*) & COUNT(1) but I don't have permission to first column col_1 so that didn't worked.
    2) I do not have permission to view DMV "sys.dm_db_partition_stats"
    3) I tried to execute below code.
    select col_2, col_3,...col_262
    into #TempTable
    from vw_sample
    and it gave me below error
    Msg 1105, Level 17, State 2, Line 1
    Could not allocate space for object '<temporary system object: 9830433781072176840>'
    in database 'tempdb' because the 'PRIMARY' filegroup is full. Create disk space by deleting unneeded files, dropping objects in the filegroup, adding additional files to the filegroup, or setting autogrowth on for existing files in the filegroup.
    4) Accidentaly I run below code
    select col_2, col_3,...col_262
    from vw_sample
    It gave me 11 million rows in 40 minutes. As we know this method is not good to test just number of rows from a view.
    So what would be my option here ?
    Thanks in advance.
    Thanks
    Fredyy

    Fredy, did you try with other column names instead of col1?
    SELECT COUNT(col2) FROM View
    What difference does that make, than using your column 1.
    Please mark as answer, if this has helped you solve the issue.
    Good Luck :) .. visit www.sqlsaga.com for more t-sql code snippets and BI related how to articles.
    IMO, sqlsaga's answer is the way to go, but you may need to make a minor change.  When you do COUNT(<some expression>), SQL counts the number of rows where <some expression> is not NULL.  So if col2 can be NULL you need to make a change
    so you know what you are counting can't be NULL.  If there is some other column in the view that can't be NULL, just count it.  Otherwise just use the ISNULL function to convert NULL's to a value.  For example, do
    Select COUNT(IsNull(col2, 0)) From vw_sample
    Note the above assumes that col2 is a type that contains a number (int, numeric, float, etc).  If col2 is of a different type, then just replace the 0 in the above with any valid value of the same type as col2 (so '' for varchar, '19000101' for datetime,
    etc).

    /opt/java1.4/bin/java CollExtractLoadProcess /home/inbox/archive/file_name
    /opt/java1.4/bin/java CollExtractLoadProcess "/home/inbox/archive/file_name"
    /opt/java1.4/bin/java CollExtractLoadProcess '/home/inbox/archive/file_name'
    /opt/java1.4/bin/java CollExtractLoadProcess file_name
    No matter how I execute it gives me the following error
    Exception in thread "main" java.lang.ClassFormatError: CollExtractLoadProcess (C

    Could someone please let me know what is the correct way of doing this?
    Thanks.

    Sounds like you either have a corrupt class file or you're using an older version of the JVM to try to execute classe that were compiled for a newer version.

    Dear Friends,
    I'm having table in my application and i need to print the table values. For that I used print() method to print the table values.
