Fetching LongRAW  over DB link results in ORA-1406 error

How to FETCH LONG RAW values from remote DB into PLSQL cursor variable.
Following is my sample code, where in column MESSAGE_xxx_FILE in XXXX table is defined as LONG RAW.
++++++++++++++++++++++++
declare
CURSOR cur IS SELECT MESSAGE_xxx_FILE FROM xxxx;
l_MESSAGE_xxx_FILE LONG RAW;
l_error VARCHAR2(500) := NULL;
cnt number;
begin
open cur;
loop
dbms_output.put_line ('befire fetcg ');
fetch cur into l_MESSAGE_xxx_FILE;
dbms_output.put_line ('after fetcg ');
exit when cur_bipi_e2b_ach%notfound;
cnt := cur_bipi_e2b_ach%ROWCOUNT;
END LOOP;
close cur;
EXCEPTION
WHEN OTHERS THEN
l_error := SQLCODE||'-'||SQLERRM;
dbms_output.put_line ('ERROR AT END '||SUBSTR(l_error,1,475)||' at '||cnt);
END;
++++++++++++++++++++++++
This is just a sample code. My actual requirement is to get the LONG RAW value over DB LINK, that is, my cursor would be CURSOR cur IS SELECT MESSAGE_xxx_FILE FROM xxxx@db_link;

You can not read/write LONG/LONG RAW columns through DB Link.
You should consider having CLOB/BLOB instead.

  • Deleting application results in ORA-03113 error

    I'm having trouble deleting applications from my workspace. Every time I attempt to delete an application, I get an ORA-03113 error.
    It doesn't seem to matter whether or not I choose to include the Application Definition or Supporting Objects when deleting.
    If I cancel and keep trying to delete the application, the db crashes. When this happens the .trc file shows multiple memory errors and the alert log shows multiple core dumps.
    db version = *10.2.0.1*
    apex version = *3.2*
    If anyone has experience with similar issues, any suggestions would appreciated. This problem has been a real pain.

    Keith,
    There are quite a few hits on Metalink for this error. You may want to go there and see if you can find a patch (of which there seems to be several) or some other method of troubleshooting this problem.
    Here is what Doc ID: 1020463.6 has to say in the introduction:
    The ORA-3113 error is a general error reported by Oracle client tools,
    which signifies that they cannot communicate with the oracle shadow
    process. As it is such a general error more information must be collected
    to help determine what has happened.
    Than note's title is "Diagnosing ORA-3113 Errors".
    Good luck,
    Don.

  • Trying to connect as sysdba results in ORA-01031

    Database server runs in shared server mode,
    so in tnsnames I have entry for network service
    name with (SERVER = DEDICATED) option to be
    able to connect as sysdba, initialization
    parameter REMOTE_LOGIN_PASSWORDFILE is set to EXCLUSIVE,
    in password file there is one entry for user sys.
    I'm trying to connect with user sys as sysdba,
    but the result is ORA-01031 error.
    Can anybody tell me how can I make it to work?
    Thanks for advise a lot,
    P.

    I have recreated password file,
    but it behaves like before, connecting
    to database from local machine with
    user not in OSDBA or OSOPER group works,
    but from other machine it ends with error.
    I have one more question: When I connect
    from local machine using tnsnames.ora file
    in network service name defined in that file
    I have (SERVER = SHARED)
    and I'm able to connect as sysdba, I thought that
    connect as sysdba is possible only with
    (SERVER = DEDICATED) when database works in
    shared server mode.

  • ORA-01461 error inserting over DB Link

    We receive an ORA-01461 error (can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column) when using HTMLDB to insert into a remote table over a database link. The remote table has two VARCHAR2 and one NUMBER columns - it does not contain a LONG column. Inserting via SQL*Plus is OK.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Barry

    Anyone found a solution to this. I'm getting the same error. HTMLDB 1.6
    I have TableA and TableB in remote db1. TableA=Master, TableB=Detail. Both tables have single column PK generated by a trigger.
    In db2 I created a schema with viewA on TableA@db1 and viewB etc.
    HTMLDB app accesses views.
    I've tried to create a tabular form page to insert update delete into viewB but can only delete. Insert & update produces error:
    Error in mru internal routine: ORA-20001: Error in MRU: row= 1, ORA-01461: can bind a LONG value only for insert into a LONG column ORA-02063: preceding line from ORIXREPORTS.ORIXNZ.CO.NZ, update "IT_HTMLDB"."SCHEDULED_REPORT_PARAMETERS" set "SCHEDULED_REPORT_PARAMETER_ID" = :b1, "SCHEDULED_REPORT_ID" = :b2, "NAME" = :b3, "VALUE" = :b4, "VALUE_TYPE" = :b5 where "SCHEDULED_REPORT_PARAMETER_ID" = :p_pk_col
    Have also tried a Master Detail page with similar problems.
    I have only managed to get this to work by using the "Form on a Table with Report, 2 Pages" page creation option and then specifiying that Detail is editied in separate page. However this means deletes & updates are slow for the user as cannot do multi updates and deletes etc.
    Any help appreciated.

  • Interactive report performance problem over database link - Oracle Gateway

    Hello all;
    This is regarding a thread Interactive report performance problem over database link that was posted by Samo.
    The issue that I am facing is when I use Oracle function like (apex_item.check_box) the query slow down by 45 seconds.
    query like this: (due to sensitivity issue, I can not disclose real table name)
    SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,b.col3)
    , a.col1
    , a.col2
    FROM table_one a
    , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND a.col4 = 100
    AND b.col5 = a.col5
    table_one and table_two are remote tables (non-oracle) which are connected using Oracle Gateway.
    Now if I run above queries without apex_item.checkbox function the query return or response is less than a second but if I have apex_item.checkbox then the query run more than 30 seconds. I have resolved the issues by creating a collection but it’s not a good practice.
    I would like to get ideas from people how to resolve or speed-up the query?
    Any idea how to use sub-factoring for the above scenario? Or others method (creating view or materialized view are not an option).
    Thank you.
    Shaun S.

    Hi Shaun
    Okay, I have a million questions (could you tell me if both tables are from the same remote source, it looks like they're possibly not?), but let's just try some things first.
    By now you should understand the idea of what I termed 'sub-factoring' in a previous post. This is to do with using the WITH blah AS (SELECT... syntax. Now in most circumstances this 'materialises' the results of the inner select statement. This means that we 'get' the results then do something with them afterwards. It's a handy trick when dealing with remote sites as sometimes you want the remote database to do the work. The reason that I ask you to use the MATERIALIZE hint for testing is just to force this, in 99.99% of cases this can be removed later. Using the WITH statement is also handled differently to inline view like SELECT * FROM (SELECT... but the same result can be mimicked with a NO_MERGE hint.
    Looking at your case I would be interested to see what the explain plan and results would be for something like the following two statements (sorry - you're going have to check them, it's late!)
    WITH a AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_one),
    b AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_two),
    sourceqry AS
    (SELECT  b.col3 x
           , a.col1 y
           , a.col2 z
    FROM table_one a
        , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND   a.col4 = 100
    AND   b.col5 = a.col5)
    SELECT apex_item.checkbox(1,x), y , z
    FROM sourceqry
    WITH a AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_one),
    b AS
    (SELECT /*+ MATERIALIZE */ *
    FROM table_two)
    SELECT  apex_item.checkbox(1,x), y , z
    FROM table_one a
        , table_two b
    WHERE a.col3 = 12345
    AND   a.col4 = 100
    AND   b.col5 = a.col5If the remote tables are at the same site, then you should have the same results. If they aren't you should get the same results but different to the original query.
    We aren't being told the real cardinality of the inners select here so the explain plan is distorted (this is normal for queries on remote and especially non-oracle sites). This hinders tuning normally but I don't think this is your problem at all. How many distinct values do you normally get of the column aliased 'x' and how many rows are normally returned in total? Also how are you testing response times, in APEX, SQL Developer, Toad SQLplus etc?
    Sorry for all the questions but it helps to answer the question, if I can.
    Cheers

  • Report suddenly showing ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502:

    Hi,
    Some reports in my applications are suddenly showing:
    ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-06502: PL/SQL: numeric or value error: character string buffer too small
    instead iof the data they used to show.
    In my development system I can fix this by:
    1. changing the column alias in my sql
    select 'a' alias1 from dual becomes
    select 'a' alias2 from dual
    2. SAVE CHANGES
    3. change column alias back to original
    select 'a' alias2 from dual becomes
    select 'a' alias1 from dual
    4. reorder columns back to original in the 'report attributes' tab
    alias1 is now at the bottom of my colum list - i just bounce it up to column 4 using the up arrows
    5. SAVE CHANGES
    then everything starts working OK again.
    There seems to be nothing wrong with my sql as I can make it works on a new page or after I run the above steps, so I guess something is breaking somewhere but I cannot work out what.
    Has anyone else seen this? Does anyone know the cause? Does anyone have a fix for this that does not involve the above steps (plus redeployment to prodcution and all the work that involves)?
    I am seeing this on version 2.3 and 3.0.
    Thanks,

  • Action links resulting in "Error Codes: QM3V3HLV" - OBIEE11G

    Hi,
    We have recently upgraded our 10g webcat to 11.1.1.5. Everything is working fine.
    But the action links on the dashboard page are resulting in the below error, when clicked for the first time.
    Invalid path () -- not allowed to be empty
    Error Details
    Error Codes: QM3V3HLV
    When we go back and click the same thing again, it shows up the report correctly.
    And also this is happening only when we integrate our OBIEE application with the web application.
    Can someone throw some light on this!!
    Thanks!!
    Vasantha.P

    Hi,
    For us, we are receiving the QM3V3HLV error when drilling down as well. We are not using any special link, just drilling on regular column values.
    We have only seen this error with our own custom subject area reports that were upgraded to 11g from 10g. I was not able to recreate the error using the Sample Sales Lite subject area.
    So far it seems like if I re-save the upgraded report and view it on a dashboard, there is no error with drilling. Also rebuilding the report in 11g seems to also get rid of the error when drilling. Rebuilding the report in 11g is not an ideal solution for us because of the number of reports we have to migrate over to 11g. So far, no definitive answer on what might be causing this from Oracle.

  • Classic Report - report error:ORA-20001: Error fetching column value

    Hi,
    In Apex 4 I have created an SQL report which errors with ORA-20001: Error fetching column value: ORA-01403: no data found.
    It works fine if I hard code the start and end dates but fails when I use page items as parameters.
    I call a stored function as below:
    DECLARE
    l_sql VARCHAR2(4000);
    BEGIN
    SELECT ICDB_PCT_MRSA_POS_REP(v('P40_NEWSTARTDATE'),
    v('P40_NEWENDDATE'))
    INTO l_sql
    FROM dual;
    RETURN(l_sql);
    END;
    although I have used the :P40_NEWSTARTDATE form too, with the same result.
    Any suggestions will be welcome.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi Chris,
    have you debugged if ICDB_PCT_MRSA_POS_REP is raising the no-data-found error or if it's the actual SQL statement which got returned?
    Comment out the call to ICDB_PCT_MRSA_POS_REP and return a hard coded SQL statement with
    return 'select [... here comes a sample sql statement returned by ICDB_PCT_MRSA_POS_REP]';to rule out that ICDB_PCT_MRSA_POS_REP is raising the error.
    BTW what is the purpose of the select from dual? Just call the ICDB_PCT_MRSA_POS_REP directly like
    return ICDB_PCT_MRSA_POS_REP(:P40_NEWSTARTDATE, :P40_NEWENDDATE);Regards

  • Report over database link error

    Good morning all.
    I have a database link LINKA from USERA on LOCALSERVER to USERB on REMOTESERVER.
    (create database link LINKA connect to USERB identified by mypassword using validtns)
    In USERC on REMOTESERVER I have a TABLEX, with grant all on TABLEX to USERB on REMOTESERVER.
    In USERB on REMOTESERVER I have a view TABLEXV, select * from USERC.TABLEX
    From USERA on LOCALSERVER I can select * from TABLEXV@LINKA. In fact I can insert/update/delete tablexv from USERA.
    I also have a view TABLEXV on USERA, select * from TABLEXV@LINKA. I can also select/insert/update/delete from USERA.TABLEXV.
    So far so good - all working as expected.
    Then, my APEX app on LOCALSERVER, interactive report, parsing schema USERA, querying TABLEXV, I get the following:
    when "Exclude Link Column", I get the error "The requested URL /pls/apex/f was not found on server.
    when "Link to Single Row View", report displays correctly.
    when "Link to Custom Target", I get the error "The requested URL /pls/apex/f was not found on server.
    When I run the select * from TABLEXV as a regular report (i.e. not interactive), I also get the error.
    So the only time I get the report displayed correctly is using IR and "Link to Single Row View".
    However, clicking on the link (for Single Row View) I get "The requested URL /pls/apex/wwv_flow.show was not found on this server.".
    To summarize:
    - accessing table via view over database link
    - works outside of apex without issue
    - inside only works when Link to Single Row View set
    - But clicking on link fails
    I could live with just having the Link to Singe Row View option if I could disable displaying of the icon so that the user cant click on it.

    when i mouse-over a link, i can see where that link brings me in the lower left corner. but when i enable the search (shift+f), the links are in the lower RIGHT corner. why? its really embarassing for example on facebook, because the chat windows can be found at the lower right corner, right where are these "links". can i change it some way? thanks in advance!

    The problem goes away if i modify my .css file by removing

    line from the "a:hover" style.
    I ran my css file thru the validator at w3c and its fine. The

  • In WebHelp, when I mouse over a link, the font size changes.

    Either after I generate to WebHelp or View in RoboHelp, when I mouse over a hyperlink text, the font changes from large to small text. My step is a 11pt font, my body text is 10pt. It appears the 11 pt. font switches to 10pt font when I mouse over it. Any way to fix this?
    Also noticed that when I have a note at 9 pt, and mouse over a link, the text changes to 10pt.
    So now it appears in most of my topics with links within a step or note. In a body, the text appears fine (or stays the same) when you mouse over a link.

    Not believing that either.
    You should be able to edit your CSS in a text editor. If you are not sure what to do, set up a simple project using your CSS. Any text will do and create a link.
