Figured Out Re-Syncing iPhotos Apparent Problem -- All is OK

You have seen the SYNC button in the lower right of the AppleTV window in iTunes.
I started a thread over the weekend, pointing out a flow in that it appeared that each time you SYNCED, the same photos in iPhoto would be RELOADED once again into AppleTV. That's a problem if you have 3,000 pictures, as I have.
I figured it out: DON'T PUSH THE SYNC Button unless you absolutely have to.
The way the AppleTV / iTunes syncing works is that it is AUTOMATIC. When you make a change in iTunes that is an item you have told AppleTV to sync, it will automatically either delete or add the new item, depending upon what you just did in iTunes or iPhoto.
if you let the software do the syncing when IT wants to, it will ONLY download new pictures or delete deleted pictures and will NOT download the entire iPhoto library again.
But, if you push the SYNC button, it causes a manual Re-Sync and all the pictures will be downloaded again.
From seeing how the software operates, it does not seem that the SYNC button needs to be pushed at all, unless something fails.
So, I apologize to the Apple engineers. The potential "serious flaw" isn't one at all. It's just that the SYNC button should be explained a little clearer and it should be made clearer that syncing occurs automatically and the SYNC button should not be pushed without a real reason to do so.

You're right. I just moved ONE picture into iPhoto. I went to iTunes (that was already OPEN) and nothing happened. I waited. Nothing. I quit iPhoto. Still nothing. Then, I quit iTunes and relaunched. It synced the ONE picture.
So, it may not be automatic. Which would be strange. I bet it IS, but I don't know the interval.
In any case, at least if you relaunch, it does NOT reload ALL pictures. That is GOOD NEWS.
I am sure someone will tell us what the automatic interval is.

  • I figured out that whole "iPhoto not seeing the iPhone" thing...

    ...for me, anyway.
Hopefully, it will work for others, as well.
    To preface the problem:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1029222
    and
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1043884
    To briefly summarize:
My iPhone syncs perfectly fine with iTunes. It DID with iPhoto. The last 60 or so photos, every time I try to sync, iPhoto either says "No items to import" or doesn't even see the iPhone at all (but, iTunes and ASP does).
The last couple days, iPhoto never showed it in the list to even tell me there's no photos to import.
So, I came across an idea whilst trying to go to sleep last night. I got the idea from when I was trying to get my massive photo library to work across the network with Connect360 (so I could stream my photos to my XBOX 360). After several emails with Nullriver, we couldn't come up with a solution... that is until, just for grins, I swapped out the library with a new one with just a couple photos. Then it worked fine.
So, my idea was that, for some reason, as the iPhone took on more photos, the less reliable it became when trying to sync to iPhoto, as was certainly the case in my situation. After too many photos, it just ceased recognition. I had 260 photos in my camera reel. This morning I deleted all but the last 80 I couldn't get to sync.
I plug it into my computer, and immediately, iPhoto pops up and asks if I want to import 80 items. I say, "Please, for the love of God." (It's a button in the debug menu
So, if you are having trouble, try deleting out a lot of the old, already synced photos... get your camera reel numbers down to when it actually worked.
Post here if it fixed your problem - or didn't...
Gigabit Ethernet G4   Mac OS X (10.4.10)   Lots of RAM, HD Space, and Apple Lovin'

OK... So, just to make sure it's not my home machine, I plugged my iPhone into my Quad-Core 2.5ghz G5 at work.
    Guess what happened?
iTunes popped up and tried to erase everything (Apple needs to fix the 'Automatically sync this iPhone' so that it stays machine independent - as in, if I plug it into my work machine just to harvest the power, I don't want to have to worry about quickly hitting the stop button - but, when I get home, I want my iPhone to automatically sync... but it won't, because it retains the work machine's setting, and vice versa)
iPhoto DIDN'T pop up. I manually opened iPhoto
(a tough task, I know), it SAW the iPhone, but said the usual "There are no items to import." Same thing with Image Capture (0).
So, and here's the kicker... I took 5 more photos...
I plugged it into the Quad-Core...
    iTunes popped up fine.
    iPhoto didn't.
It also didn't seem to 'see' the iPhone any more.
It's not in the Source list... where is it!
Image Capture only shows my Scanner and no longer the photo import dialog.
    My total photos?
    A whopping 171...
I'll let you know if it does this when I get home.
    OK - nevermind.
    I took another 7 photos.
    I plugged it in.
Both iTunes and iPhoto popped up.
iPhoto asked if I wanted to import the 178 items.
I wonder if it's some kind of issue with the internal iPhone photo library and it's cataloging... or something.

  • I have an IMac 10.5.2 from about 5 years ago and recently my flash player stopped responding.  I tried to update my flash player but it tells me I need an updated system to install the player.  Can anyone help me figure out how to solve this problem?

I have an imac osx 10.5.2 from about five years ago and recently my flash player stopped operating/responding.  Does anyone know if I have to install a new flash player?  I have attempted it several times and it won't let me.  I would appreciate any suggestions on how to solve this problem.  Do I need a new operating system?

Why have you not updated to 10.5.8?
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version,10.3.183.23 or later, is for Intel Macs only running Tiger or Leopard, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Version 11.4.402.265 or later is for Snow Leopard onwards.
    * Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC (G4 or G5) Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. Flash Player 10.1.102.64 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/909/cpsid_90906.html
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications (including Safari) first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
After installing, reboot your Mac and relaunch Safari, then in Safari Preferences/Security enable ‘Allow Plugins’. If you are running 10.6.8 or later:

  • My computer keeps dropping my network connection (or it times out), trying to figure out if it's a problem with my ISP or Base Station.

My computer keeps dropping off our in-house wireless network. I have called my ISP and they say everything on their end is fine. I'm trying to figure if there's a problem with my Base Station. The green light remains on at all times. On my cable modem, the light signaling "PC Activity" and all other appropriate lights are on. I often have to restart my Base Station which then allows me to connect for a short period of time before my computer drops off the network again. Our other associated devices around the house (iPhone, other PC, other Smart Phone) don't remain connected to the network as well.

Sporadic drop-offs of wireless clients typically indicates that there can be at least two primary causes: 1) The wireless router may be misconfigured or not functioning properly, and/or 2) There is a significant amount of Wi-Fi interference in the nearby area that is preventing the wireless router from providing a "clean" signal for wireless clients to maintain a connection.

  • Sync iPhoto Movies Problem

    Help!
My iPad won't sync my movie clips I keep in my iPhoto application. It simply won't sync them even though I DO have the itunes tab clicked "on" that says sync videos within photos.
    Can anyone suggest a solution?

Same problem here with my Panasonic ZS3. Check to make sure your video files match the specs that the iPad will play. You can see a great post by Ian Parkinson that describes exactly the specs needed here:

  • Any one reliably figure out Podcast syncing ?

    Hello,
My favourite promised feature for iTunes 11 was iCloud Podcast syncing. I'd have a list of subscriptions in iTunes on my Mac, I'd sync my iPhone once so it knew what my subscriptions were, and from then on my Mac and iPhone would be in sync. That means if a new episode is download on my Mac, it also downloads on my iPhone. If an episode is deleted on my Mac or iPhone, it is deleted everywhere, and very importantly the position is also synced.
I've now tried several times and several methods to get it to work, and the best I've gotten it to work a mishmash.
Here is what is in the unplayed section on my Mac :
DecodeDC - 1 podcast 90% of the way through
Infinite Longbox - 1 unplayed podcast
Make Talk - 1 unplayed podcast
New Distruptor - 1 podcast 65% of the way through
Nintendo Voice Chat - 60% of the way through
StarTalk Radio Show - 4 unplayed episodes. 2 90% played. Total of 6
Under the Influence CBC - 1 episode 98% finished
    8-4 Play - 1 unplayed episode
Here is what is on my iPhone (This is the closest I've gotten it - it asked if I wanted to sync with other devices). I've tried both the Music app and the Podcast app :
DecodeDC - 2 unplayed podcast. :: Incorrect count. Incorrect played position.
Infinite Longbox - not present :: Incorrect
Make Talk - 1 unplayed podcast :: Correct
New Distruptor - 1 unplayed podcast :: Incorrect position
Nintendo Voice Chat - 1 unplayed podcast :: Incorrect played position.
StarTalk Radio Show - 7 podcasts :: Incorrect count. Correct position !
Under the Influence CBC - 1 unplayed podcast :: Incorrect position
No 8-4 - not on list :: Incorrect
I'm not testing by jumping between my mac and iphone either, I give it a bit of time. I even try to quit iTunes to give it push.
Any hints or tips ? This would be a tremendous feature if it actually worked.

FlowLayout is generally not a good top ContainerLayout.
I am not debating that. I agree BorderLayout is a
better top level LayoutManager (which is why I made
the earlier assumption that Applets also use a
    BorderLayout).
I realize that you aren't - in fact, I did not take you to be debatinganything. I added that piece of information merely to explain why I changed the Layout Manager - in order to add the JButtons where I wanted them to be - which is admittedly not where the OP might want them.
I am questioning how using a BorderLayout causes the
children to be painted, even though the paint()
    method does not invoke super.paint().
I have not intentionally avoided calling super.paint. As I said, I do not know the real reason. But this has worked before, and I believe it has to do with adding the two JButton Components to another Panel; because if you simply add them BorderLayout.NORTH and BorderLayout.SOUTH it won't help.

  • I figured out the terms of use problem

At least for me.  I manually installed the latest version of I tunes and it corrected the problem.

Flash projects typically use an audio sample rate of 22,050Hz.  Your audio device sample rate is reset by Flash and is (likely) not informing Audition (by way of the ASIO driver, or within the wrapper) of the change.  Audition is still pushing 44,100 samples for each second of audio, but your device is only playing back 22,050 of those per second giving you the half-speed effect.
I don't recall what audio device you were using, though I know you mentioned it in another thread.  The best solution for this issue would be to find an ASIO driver for your device, if one exists.  If not, you can try using the ASIO4ALL driver, from www.asio4all.com which acts as a go-between for ASIO programs and WDM-devices.  This driver might better recognize changes in hardware settings that don't get reported by the Windows audio driver.

  • I think I figured out the half-speed song problem

Steve, my songs only play at normal speed if I'm logged onto a webpage with a flash player. Any toughts as to why this is the root of the problem?

  • How can i figure out the beats per minute of all the songs on my itunes list?

I am a runner and would like to know the beats per minute of each song on my playlist.  Is there any app that is compatible with itunes so that I could get this information and easily upload it?

The mentioned BeaTunes is nice... I've also used Tangerine.  You'll find that scanning one song with one app and scanning the same song with a different app will produce different results.  I'd just recommend being consistent and using the same app once you'd played with them to determine your favorite.
Mixmeister also has a few different levels of software for DJ type stuff.

  • ITunes video playback freezing and out of sync from audio problem

There's one thing that bugs me more than the non-responses I get from Apple Support is when I try to watch a movie on iTunes and during the action parts or exciting scenes, the video freezes and pauses from the audio for a few seconds. It happens quite often during video play. How can this matter be solved and I can watch a movie that costs WAY too much to buy on iTunes and actually enjoy it for once? Anybody? Hello? Bueller?

Q? Are you using Quicktime to play the video on your PC or other video player like Real Player?
As some 3rd party players may not sinc right or you may have to download a newer codec.
I use GOM player and it works well on my PC for video from iPhone 4S.
    Hope this helps.

  • Serious CS5+6 Audio out of sync on MP4 and Quicktime HD (AC3/AAC) export problem

    Hello,
while exporting our video files and importing them into our projects to check the sync we noticed that if we export in MP4 1080p H264 format the audio is 1/2 video frame out of sync compared to the original. This happens with both original audio files attached to the original clip as well as other random audio files combined with the clip.
If we export the WAV file and import it again into the original timeline this is 100% in sync, but if we export that clip with the imported WAV file it's again out of sync.
    please check the pic:
as you can see the "edit_1080p_1.mp4" files is the exported and re-imported clip, which is 100% synced to the video (from timecode 0:00:00:00) and the our of sync is about half a video frame.
This also seems to happen in CS5 as we just have tested on another old system.
Addon: It also happens with Quicktime HD Export.
If exported in AVI there is no out-of-sync, so this problem seems only to be on Dolby Digital and AAC encoded and multiplexed files.
As we found out if exporting clips with any CS5 or CS6 Version in mutiplexed AC3 format eveytime after re-importing those files back into Premiere the audio is about 1/2 videoframe delayed! So this means if you work with multiple temporary exported files, e.g. MP4 HD HQ formats your audio gets more and more out of sync.
But we also found out that if you simply convert WAV to AC3 there is also a slight delay on the AC3 file, although not noticeable on the first view, but if you switch to audio frames view it's about 1/10 frame.
I think this is a very serious error and needs to be fixed as soon as possible.
    Nachricht geändert durch pinklemos

    And another, even worse, update:
we did several tests with just converting the H264/PCM multiplexed file to different format, MPEG2/MP2, MPEG2/AC3, MP4/AAC (both CS6 and CS5) and we just encoded the file with Procoder in H264/AAC (orange colored). And the result was, that ALL Adobe encoded files are not correctly synced to the original but the Procoder file is! Even with CS5 this was already not working.
I am shocked, that nobody really seems to have noticed that elemental error until now...
So the only working workflow at the moment is to export all files into Quicktime H264/PCM format and then user other encoders to create the final files needed, if they need to have compressed audio formats like MP2, ACC or AC3.

  • Reminders out of sync

Anyone know how to fix Reminders that are out of sync?  They were all syncing correctly, but I just noticed today that I have a different set on my iPhone, iPad, iCloud.com and iCal!  Any suggestions?  Or is this the same failure to sync as I experienced with .mac and Mobile Me?

Okay, I figured it out.  Apple made me change my password earlier today and so the passwords on my devices weren't working.  But instead of it telling me that was the problem, it just didn't work which led me to believe there was a problem with the service.

  • Quicktime Export causing Out of Sync Audio?

I'm trying to export a self contained Quicktime movie from my timeline, and every time I try, the audio ends up being out of sync. What am I doing wrong?
The audio is set to just the defaults, 16 bit, 48khz.
    Sequence settings: HDV1080p30
When I bring the final exported movie back into FCP, it plays out of sync.
Exporting through the Share feature to bluRay resulted in perfect sync audio, so I'm at a loss as to why this isn't working.
    Please help!

Allright, since nobody out there seems to have the answer - I'm going to share what I discovered so that the next person will actually get an answer without having to spend hours and hours finding it in other forums. Here goes:
Problem: Audio plays in sync on the timeline, an export from the timeline through Share to bluRay results in correctly synced audio; but a Quicktime Export with current settings results in a final movie where audio is out of sync with the video.
Solutions: I found two solutions to this problem:
1- When exporting to Quicktime Movie, check "recompress all frames". This solution had mixed reviews, with lots of people saying you should never do this, as it will reduce the quality of your final output; while others said the reduction in quality was not noticeable to the naked eye. I guess you can try it and be the judge.
2- In your sequence settings, change the compression setting to Apple Pro Res. This is the setting I decided to go with, as I'm currently awaiting the 10 hour render.
I did do a quick and dirty test on the ProRes option, where it appeared to work. Since the audio is correctly synced in the beginning of the video and then slowly falls out of sync (obviously the 30p to 29.97 problem), I had to run a test using my entire sequence. If you run a test on a 2 minute sequence, it will appear to be correct, because it is a slow falling out of sync issue - the problems occur later in your project (just fyi). Here is what I did (in case you want to try it on your project):
I created a new sequence and then changed the compression setting from HDV1080-30p to Apple Pro Res 422. I dragged my sequences into this sequence (so they were nested). I unlinked the audio and then selected about a 20 second area from about 3/4 of the way through the project. I sliced this section and then removed all the video before and after (so it would speed up render time and only render black, but I would still be able to see if the audio synced up later - I hope that makes sense - this made my export time only 12 minutes). After it exported, I reimported the movie, found the little 20 second area, and it was correctly synced. So, now I am exporting the whole thing. I sincerely hope this works. I don't have lots of 10 hour blocks just lyin' around!
Since my audio issue was most likely due to the fact that I captured and edited in 1080 30p, I believe it must be a bug in FCP that exports the Quicktime movie in 29.97 regardless of whatever your sequence settings are (believe me, I tried to change it to 1080-30p and it didn't work). That is why I think the Apple Pro Res option works, but it involves a total re-render of your project. This is also why I believe it plays fine in the timeline, because my timeline was set to 30p. Again, I also believe that is why my export to BluRay through Share resulted in correctly synced audio - the bluRay export I believe uses the Pro Res codec (which, by the way, took 19 hours).
Wish Apple would fix this bug.

  • Photo Booth Audio and Video are out of sync?

Hi. So there is this glitch that when I take videos on Photo Booth the audio and video are out of sync. This started after I upgraded to Mountain Lion, and since I use Photo Booth a lot, I really do care. Is there anyway that I can fix this until Apple fixes this bug? Thanks.
Extra Info: The first video I took was not out of sync, but after that they got more and more out of sync.

I've read all the forums. It's a big problem for most Photobooth users, Apple acknowledges it, but does not yet have a fix.
The best solution I have come up with is to dump Photobooth (I know - it was a great program, wasn't it? But so was Hypercard) and use Quicktime to make videos. You'll have to spend a little more work savings or exporting, but at least Quicktime is free.
Just open Quicktime Player and under the File menu you'll see "Record New Movie."
    The downward slide continues...
