File (Directory) object problem?
Hi there. My problem is as follows. The method below is supposed to access an pre-existing directory with five previously saved test files, read in those files as account objects, add the objects to an ArrayList, then return the ArrayList. It seems to be able to create a file object representing the directory alright but it then insists that there are no files in the directory! Have I fouled up or is there some subtlety that I'm unware of? I was wondering if the fact that the account files have a .bac extenstion had something to do with it.
Here's the method, with the two lines of code where I think the problem might lie in bold print:
public ArrayList retrieveAccounts()throws IOException{
ArrayList accounts = new ArrayList();
File accDir = new File("C:" + File.separator + "accounts"); //creates a directory object
//The following S.o.p statements are for test and maintenance purposes rather than user feedback
System.out.println("Directory " + accDir.getCanonicalPath() + " opened");
System.out.println("Confirm Accounts directory exists: " + accDir.exists());
System.out.println("Directory: " + accDir.isDirectory());
String [] accFiles = accDir.list(); //gets a list of files in the directory and saves it as a String array
System.out.println("Number of files in directory: " + accDir.length());
while(i < accDir.length()){
filename = accFiles;
try{
//open layered input Streams to access the next account file in line
ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream("C:"+ File.separator + "accounts" + File.separator + filename));
account = (Account)in.readObject();
accounts.add(account);
in.close(); //closes Streams for that particular file
}catch(IOException e){System.out.println("Filing error as follows: " + e);
}catch(ClassNotFoundException e){System.out.println("Class not Found. Details: " + e); }
filename = null; //frees up reference for next file
i++;//counter increments by one
return accounts;
This is what I was trying to do minus the comments and maintence and test code:
public ArrayList retrieveAccounts()throws IOException{
ArrayList accounts = new ArrayList();
File accDir = new File("C:" + File.separator + "accounts");
String [] accFiles = accDir.list();
while(i < accDir.length()){
filename = accFiles;
try{
ObjectInputStream in = new ObjectInputStream(new FileInputStream("C:"+ File.separator + "accounts" + File.separator + filename));
account = (Account)in.readObject();
accounts.add(account);
in.close();
}catch(IOException e){System.out.println("Filing error as follows: " + e);
}catch(ClassNotFoundException e){System.out.println("Class not Found. Details: " + e); }
filename = null;
i++;
return accounts;
By the way, your the first Java programmer that I've met that doesn't like comments! :)
NOTE: Think I may have spotted where I went wrong in my code.
filename = accFiles;
Forgot to point it at the specific element of the array, like so:
filename = accFiles[i];
Thanks for your help!

Accessing file directory objects in 9.1 and /WEB-INF/classes zip
It appears that in WebLogic 9.1 that the contents of the /WEB-INF/classes directory is being zipped up and placed in the /WEB-INF/lib directory under some arbitrary name.
Is there a way to tell weblogic not to do this, but leave the /WEB-INF/classes directory expanded as it was in weblogic 8?
Is there a particular reason, developers should be aware of, to why this is being done in 9.1 (9.x?)?
Background :
This particular app has a set of several hundred xml files that describe all of the screens (and thus the forms) of the app. They are used not only in the generation of the actual jsps (and believe it or not the action class as well as other supporting class, the app is really an interface to a legacy backend) but are also packaged within the WAR for the dynamic configuration of plugins used for complex validation; a quasi 'rules' engine.
While there are several different versions of the app, and thus several different versions of xml files, there is only one version of the rules engine.
The problem that has arised when running on 9.1 is the plugins access to those xml files.
The plugin attempts to load the xml files by creating File object for the directory containing the xml files, and then iterating through the contents of that directory.
The xml files are packaged within the /WEB-INF/classes directory and are thus accessible using a simple resource look-up (in actuality, a 'token' xml file is specified, looked-up as a resource and then used to determine the parent file directory's url).
This has worked well enough as 'most' servers deploy the contents of /WEB-INF/classes directory in an expandable fashion. Obviously, this strategy readly breaks when those same contents are jar'd and placed in the /lib directory.
It is prefered to not have to maintain a cataloge or index of the xml files because of the volume of xml files, the multiple versions of the xml files, and of course the volitility of the xml files, although this is an obvious option.
I personally have mixed feelings about using a parent directory reference to load a set of resource files within a j2ee app. If anyone has any other suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it!
Thanks
AndrewHi,
Usually, the best approach would be to just to load the resources as InputStream and have a catalog (and I know this is what you do not want to do :-) So the only hacky workaround that I can think of would be to use something like Jakarta Commons Virtual File System (http://jakarta.apache.org/commons/vfs/) and read the .zip

How to get file names for one oracle directory object.
Hi all ,
I defined one oracle directory object . Now I want to know how many files stored under this object in physical directory and their names ? anyone know how to do it by pl/sql ?
Thanks,
GeorgeChris Poole has an [XUTIL_FINDFILES package|http://www.chrispoole.co.uk/apps/xutlff.htm] which can do this in pure SQL. It does require, though, that your DBA install code in the SYS schema and that you rely on the behavior of an undocumented X$ table. That may not be possible in certain environments.
I personally prefer a small Java stored procedure along the lines of [this one from Tom Kyte|http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:439619916584]. It isn't a pure PL/SQL solution, but it tends to fit relatively cleanly in any environment. Most DBAs will be willing to grant the privileges this sort of approach requires where they would be hesitant to grant the access necessary for XUTIL_FINDFILES.

PowerShell script : Directory object not found error in Get-ADGroupMember
I am new in powershell scripting. I am writing a script to add users in different AD Groups. while doing so I do the following:
Check if the user already exist in the group:
$mbr_exist = Get-ADGroupMember $grpname | Where-Object {$_.SamAccountName -eq $sam}
If user does not exist then add the user to the group.
When I manually run the script its runs flawless, without any errors. But when I schedule the script to run it gives an error as follows:
3/30/2015 8:32:15 AM Directory object not foundAt + $mbr_exist = Get-ADGroupMember $grpname | Where-Object {$_.SamAc ... + ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Error at Line:$mbr_exist = Get-ADGroupMember
$grpname | Where-Object {$_.SamAccountName -eq $sam}
The strange thing is the user for which it throws the error is present in the group.I am not sure why this error is occurring when scheduled. Can any one please help? All the suggestions will be appreciated
Note: (The script is scheduled using Windows Task Scheduler)

I am using Windows task scheduler to schedule the task. I am given the administrator access to the server (Windows Server 2012). So I think I set to run the script under system account.
My apologies for asking this, am I missing something while scheduling the script through task scheduler? how to check if the scheduled task is running under who's credentials? How to pass my (admin) credentials, so that the script execution won't face
a problem? Any suggestion on the above questions will be helpful. (I tried to search on net for the questions but didn't get any conclusive answers)
Thanks in advance. -
Unable to activate PI - Integration Directory Objects
Hi Guys,
i am unable to activate PI - Integration Directory Objects.
when i'm trying to activate its taking too much time,then no response.
can any one pls help me on how to resolve this issue.
Thanks,
Siva.Hi Siva,
Check with your basis guys.
In most cases, this is due to memory overflow error. They should free the memory which some interface or logs is holding up.
Most of these problems are solved by simply restart of the server.
I strongly suspect that some log file might be growing which would have consumed all memory.

Setting up directory object for emailing attachments
Hi,
I am having trouble trying to send emails with attachments. I have downloaded and created the the demo_mail package and the pdf_mail procedure. I also have the send_email_attach procedure using utl_mail.
I am not sure, or familiar on setting up the directory object. I don't have privileges to do this so I need to understand exactly what needs to be done so I could relay it to my dba.
In the Send_email_attach procedure there is this code
"fHandle := UTL_FILE.FOPEN('/Source/Apps/prod/reports', 'mypdf.pdf', 'r');" I put the directory path the file is in as the first argument and the name of my pdf in the second one. When I run it, it gives me an error:
ORA-20001: The following error has occured : ORA-29280: invalid directory path
I'm thinking I need the directory object in the first argument? Is this correct. And then do I put the file in the directory path that the directory object points to? and keep as the second argument?
using the pdf_mail procedure it sends the email but the attachment in the email is bad. Acrobat just says: Acrobat reader could not open '~6034454.pdf' because it is either not a supported file type or because the file has been damaged (for example, it was sent as an email attachment and wasn't correctly formated).
This is the code I use to call it:
pdf_mail('myemail',
'another email',
'This is a test',
'Hope it works',
'/Data/oracle/product/10g__BI/tools/web/icons/myicons/mypdf.pdf',
EMPTY_BLOB());
I am not sure what to put in the last two arguments. In the next to last argument I put the path where the file is and in the last argument I put EMPTY_BLOB() call. If I put the name of the pdf in quotes it gives me an error ORA-06550: wrong number or types of arguments in call to pdf_mail.
I'm not sure how to reference the files or the directory.
any help would be greatly appreciated.
thanksYou need to use a directory object to do this properly. If you don't have privileges then get them...
The UTL_FILE_DIR parameter has been deprecated by oracle in favour of direcory objects because of it's security problems.
The correct thing to do is to create a directory object e.g.:
CREATE OR REPLACE DIRECTORY mydir AS 'c:\myfiles';Note: This does not create the directory on the file system. You have to do that yourself and ensure that oracle has permission to read/write to that file system directory.
Then, grant permission to the users who require access e.g....
GRANT READ,WRITE ON DIRECTORY mydir TO myuser;Then use that directory object inside your FOPEN statement e.g.
fh := UTL_FILE.FOPEN('MYDIR', 'myfile.txt', 'r');Note: You MUST specify the directory object name in quotes and in UPPER case for this to work as it is a string that is referring to a database object name which will have been stored in uppercase by default. -
Oracle DIRECTORY object and subdirectories
As you know, in 9i the use of the UTL_FILE_DIR is being deprecated in favour of Oracle DIRECTORY objects. This is fine for security reasons and administration but there seems to be a problem with subdirectories.
The situation: we are generating literally millions of files using UTL_FILE. These files are going to be stored in one of forty thousand directories (the precise directory is derived from parsing the file's key ID).
In the old days access could be granted simply by setting the UTL_FILE_DIR parameter to /<root>/dir/*
As far as I can see, the Oracle DIRECTORY does not support subdirectories. Is there any way of avoiding the creation of forty thousand CREATE DIRECTORY statements and a concommitant number of GRANT statements?
Oracle 9.2, any suggestions gratefully received.
Cheers, APCJust curious Andrew-- are there things in the UTL_FILE package that you don't find implemented better in Java's I/O classes? I wouldn't claim to be the world's leading expert on Java I/O, so I won't comment on the specifics of this. Generally I think using Java to re-write a piece of existing native functionality is a hard one to sell:
(1) Java tends to run slower than native code
(2) It's a chunk of work, and my PM is already breathing down my neck.
However, I might do this as a hobby project. If I do, I'll let you know how it turns out :)
Cheers, APC -
Directory object error ORA-29285
Hi All,
I am facing a problem with the Directory object in oracle 9i.
Their is a procedure trying to perform Read/Write operation to the directory using utl_file(to print (generate) labels).
I am some times getting this err no ORA-29285 and
most of the times I am not getting this err with the same operation.
My question is
1) Is it because that 2 or more user trying to perform Read/Write operation on that Directory at the same time
2) If not the above that what could be the problem
Kindly help.
AAK.hi,
First thing to check on all errors with writing and reading files (in any language, any platform) is to make sure the process/program doing the writing has read/write access to the drive/path in question.
Also you can/should use directory objects rather than straight file names for IO operations. If you don't, you'll need to check your utl_file parameter.
also please paste the code, thanx.

I think that I have to give an operating system permission, because I gave permissions to the directory object with the following GRANT:
GRANT ALL ON DIRECTORY <directory_name> TO <schema>;
Which is the operating system user that the database uses to write a file in the directory object?
What kind of permissions I have to give?
Regards,
Rui TorresI think that is not a permissionâs problem, because I created a directory on / and gave read/write permissions to all operating system users.
The commands that I executed to create the directory and to give permissions are the following:
mkdir /materialized_views
chmod âR 777 /materialized_views
To test the permissions, I created some files in /materilazed_views with different users, and all work perfectly.
What is the problem?
Can any body help me?

Adapter module that dumps file to XI file directory
I am given a task to find a way of backing up files the simpliest way. Currently, our config is in a scenario where there are 2 receiver, the receiving system (SAP) and the file backup (File adapter). I would want to reduce the config requirements by eliminating the file backup objects. And I am thinking of doing this by creating an adapter module to be included in the sender adapter.
Another idea I could think of is the adapter module calls upon the file comm channel to do the file backup.
The purpose of this research is to reduce object transport time and the mistakes the transport guys are doing on the file comm ch reconfiguration.
To those who have experiences with adapter module development, is this idea feasible?Hi Jai,
Thanks for your reply. That is the 2nd option I have in case the 1st one isnt possible.
To further elaborate,
Current config:
we have two AS2 comm channels (sender and receiver) managing the connection with our external partners.
File comm channels to backup the files we send and receive.
The problem:
We are having problems with the transport guys as they often make mistake on reconfiguring the file comm channel during transport.
Requirements:
Reduce object creation and tranport time.
Solution proposal 1:
The idea is to remove all existing objects related to file back up and have all the file back ups done by the adapter module. And this adapter module would become part of the as2 comm channels module processes.
Hope this clarifies things more. -
Import and directory synchronize problem
I'm having a problem importing new pictures into an existing file directory which appears in my Lightroom catalog. The photos import normally but show up as a new directory entry off the root of the Lightroom catalog. When I attempt to move/drag them to the existing Lightroom directory I want, I'm told they can NOT be move because they are already there which I can confirm in the Windows file system. Strangely, synchronizing the directory in Lightroom does not find the files even though they are physically there but not showing up in the catalog. This is a new problem but I can't associate it with anything I've changed in Lightroom lately. Can anyone suggest what might be going on and more important how to fix it? It is very irritating. I have another problem and I don’t know if it is related or not. Lightroom will NOT remember changes I make to calalog location I make through the edit, calalog settings menu or my watch directory for auto import through file, auto import, auto import settings. It just ignores them and uses what is already there. Again, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
The idle-timeout on DSEE was set to none, which I believe is the default. I tried setting it to 1200 and 2400 seconds without success.

May be the problem is a network connectivity issue. Do one thing copy the "cahce" folder from some other client PC(which has successfully opened IR and ID) to your client PC. The folder resides in "C:Documents and Settings<yourUserProfile>Application DataSunJavaDeploymentjavaws".
Copy "cache" folder to your client PC under the above path.

2) Go to http://filp55.group.upm-kymmene.com:50100/rep/
Click on Administration -> Java Web Start -> Java Web Start Administration ->
Try
1. Re-initialization (then try logging)
2. Re-initialization and force-signing (then try logging)
3. Delete lock (then try logging)
Do this for IR and ID tabs.
3) Check can be a firewall issue.
4) Check wether sufficient roles have been assigned -> Tcode -> SU01 -> roles tab. These roles need to be assigned to your username
