File Event Listener

Hi,
I know this question has been asked before but I can't seem to find the answer. Has anyone ever build or knows about a FileListener class? I know about File.lastModified but would prefer a different solution. I read some post about netbeans having a FileEvent class but I can't seem to find information on netbeans.
Any help would be appreciated.
TIA
Maizo

Hi,
Yes, I found something on a different site that works great. The URL for the article is: http://www.jadcentral.com/newscentral/idg/articles/dynamic.properties.jsp
I hope this article helps you. It sure helped me. I was planning on dropping a line to the author thanking him.
Good luck,
Maizo

  • Remote file event listener

    Is there an API to listen/monitor event changes on a file on remote machine in JDK 5 or JDK 6 ?

    [http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&source=hp&q=java+file+system+watcher]
    led me to this:
    [http://java.sun.com/developer/technicalArticles/javase/nio/]
    Oh, wait you're restricting it to 1.5 or 1.6. Then no, not built in. Others have apparantly implemented them though (from the first google search).

  • Regd Event Listeners and Objects to listen to File events

    I have a specific requirement wherein, I want to listen to a java.io.File object pointing to a windows directory and keep track of any sub-files and sub-directories. If any new file or directory is created, I want an event object to be fired and captured by an event listener. Are there any classes already provided in the JDK APIs to meet this requirement.
    The situation is pretty much like listening to events fired when emails are received on an Exchange Server using Java Mail API MessageListener and MessageEvent.

    You should get in touch with this guy:

    Looks like he might need a little help.

  • Can't remove event listener from Image

    I'm clearly missing something and would appreciate some help.  I'm trying to run an event handler when an Image completes loading,  then remove the handler so that it won't  run again should the image be reloaded later.
    The problem that I'm having is that the event handler simply wont' go away, despite calling removeEventListener on the Image object.
    The following example demonstrates the problem (the example doesn't actually do anything useful...it's just the shortest example to demonstrate the problem).  (To run the  app, you'll have to provide any ol' JPEG file named "myImage.jpg" in the "src" directory of your project).
    What I expect to happen is :
         1) on startup, the image loads and loadComplete() runs.
         2)  loadComplete removes the event Listener so that subsequent re-loads won't re-fire the handler.  I only want the handler to  run once.
         3) "loadComplete" shoudl  be displayed in the Debug console.
         4) A button click should display only "Changing  Image" in the Debug console
    What I get instead is that the loadComplete handler isn't  removed, and every  time I click the button, loadComplete runs when the image is re-loaded   (i.e., every button click results in both "Change Image" AND "loadComplete"  being displayed in the Debug console).

    Hi,
    You can remove only event listeners that you added with the addEventListener() method in an ActionScript block. You cannot remove an event listener  that was defined in the MXML tag, even if it was registered using a call  to the addEventListener()method that was made inside a tag attribute.
    Check this page for reference.
    http://livedocs.adobe.com/flex/3/html/help.html?content=events_05.html
    You can modify the code a bit a get it working
    <mx:Image width="655" height="181" id="myImage" scaleContent="true"
              x="100" y="100"
              creationComplete="myImage_creationCompleteHandler(event)"/>
    private function myImage_creationCompleteHandler(event:FlexEvent):void
         myImage.addEventListener("complete",myImage_completeHandler);
         myImage.load("myImage.jpg");
    private function myImage_completeHandler(event:Event):void
         myImage.removeEventListener("complete",myImage_completeHandler);

  • How do I assign a mouseclick event Listener to a simplebutton already nested in a movie clip when it's dropped on stage?

    I'm trying to assign a mouseclick event listener to a simplebutton nested within a movie clip's later frames, starting at frame 2 and up. This card, however, is not added to my game until later, and when the player clicks on it/turns it over.
    There are four files involved in this program:
    #1 The main actionscript file, which corresponds to
    #2 my dreamQuester .fla file.
    #3 my artifactCard file movieClip's corresponding .as file,
    #4 my combo1.as file corresponding to a an instance of a simpleButton named combo1 that is already
    nested --and this instance is already named-- inside/as a child of said artifactCard movieclip.
    What I've done so far isn't working:
    In my main dreamQuester.as file, when a player clicks on an artifactCard, its MOUSE_DOWN event
    listener takes them to this function (clickArtCard), where the trouble is at:
    // player clicked on the artC card--which is a child of posArt1 on stage--to turn card over:
            function clickArtCard(a_event:MouseEvent) {
                var thisArtCard:artifactCard = (a_event.target as artifactCard);
                thisArtCard.gotoAndStop(unclickedArt1);  // go to frame number of artifact
                                    // card where combo1 button is.
                thisArtCard.removeEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK,clickArtCard);
                thisArtCard.buttonMode = false;
                trace("combo1.combo is:" + combo1.combo);
                trace("posArt1.artC.combo1 is:" + posArt1.artC.combo1);
                posArt1.artC.combo1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN, comboClickedWHO);
    when the artC card--the static public instance of artifactCard--is clicked, it only gets to the
    trace("posArt1.artC.combo1 is:" + posArt1.artC.combo1); which returns this error message:
    TypeError: Error #1010: A term is undefined and has no properties.
        at MethodInfo-61()
    So do how would I declare a static public variable of this simpleButton at the start of my main .as
    file to make it defined to get a mouseDown actionListener into my pre-existing-and-named-instance
    combo1 simpleButton?
    perhaps there is a way, while the debug movie program is running, to click on the simpleButton and see exactly
    what it's parent heirarchy is, to see the name of all parents above the simpleButton incase they are
    different then what I think?
    (just in case, I was hoping to squeeze a zip file containing these files to be less than 9MB incase someone was willing to look at my files to see what I've done so far, but 9 megs is just too big! even though all graphics I've imported where turned into vector graphics with trace bitmap. I wish there was a way to check the file size of each symbol in Flash CS4, here...)
    Thank you so much for any help!
    ~Ethan

    Just use a
    stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyPressed);
    function keyPressed(event:KeyboardEvent):void {
         //trace(event.keyCode);
         if(event.keyCode == ???){
              // play the sound
    Where I show the "???" you would replace with the keyCode for the key you want pressed for that sound.  To determine the keyCode you can use the trace line that I have commented out.
    Note that when testing in Flash you often need to disable the keyboard shortcuts in the Flash Player in order to be able to use alot of the keys.  You will find this option in the Control menu options in the player.

  • Help with event listener

    I'm having some trouble trying to figure out how this event listener will work.
    The main application is building an arrayCollection of a calendarDay custom components which is displayed by a DataGroup.
    Within each calendarDay custom component i may create an arrayList of a DriverDetailComponent custom components displayed within the calendarDay by a DataGroup.
    If a user double clicks on the DriverDetailComponent that is two layers in I would like to change states of the main application.  I'm having trouble figuring out what item in the main application to set the listener on.  Please help.

  • BeforeSave event listener reverting doc to unsaved [AS, CS5]

    Hi,
    I've got an AppleScript, which is triggered by a beforeSave event listener.  This script makes some modifications to the active document, and then the save proceeds.  The problem I'm encountering is that, after the save, the document appears as saved momentarily, but then immediately reverts back to unsaved.  This is evident by an asterisk disappearing and reappearing next to the document name in the document window's title bar.  If I comment out the document modification code, the save works as expected.
    It seems like maybe the save is continuing while the script is still in progress, and this is why the document reverts to unsaved.  However, shouldn't the beforeSave event take place before the save occurs, and not proceed until the script has finished executing?
    Things I've checked and/or tried…
    * I've checked to see if somehow my script is being triggered a second time after the save is complete.  It is not.
    * I've tried having my script save the document on completion, but this fails because the database is busy.
    * I've tested with beforeSaveAs, and it encounters the same problem.
    * I've tested on multiple machines.  What's weird is that it occurs on some, and not on others.  So, it's not consistent.
    * I have seen the problem in Mac OS X 10.5.x and 10.6.x.  I have not tested it in 10.7.x yet.
    * I have seen the problem with CS5, but have not yet encountered it with 5.5.
    Anyone have any thoughts or suggestions?
    Thanks,
    -Ben

    Thanks for the ideas regarding beforeInvoke, Ben.  I will try to check that out.  In my situation, here's essentially how my script is working...
    BeforeSave is invoked.
    Script makes a change to the document, which should be captured in the saved file.
    Document saves.
    Document appears saved for a moment, and then appears unsaved (asterisk in the document title).
    My biggest problem is that this behavior isn't consistent.  I have dozens of users, all running the same script, and the problem only occurs with certain users and at random times. I can move a problematic document from a user's machine to a different machine, and the problem doesn't occur there.  It's very difficult to troubleshoot because I can't reproduce it consistently.

Only difference of above exception coming program is this c++ library is loaded true JNI and relevant event listener is added during a JNI method call. Please explain me why this exception is coming. I have attached the relevant code as well.

  • Add event listener to HTTPService call

    Hi – I am using a HTTP service within my flex
    application.
    My HTTPServeice is connecting to an XML file:
    <mx:HTTPService
    id="myResults"
    url="
    http://localhost/myResults.xml"
    resultFormat="e4x"
    result="resultHandler(event)" />
    the data within the XML file is constantly changing (the
    structure remains the same, but the actual data within the
    structure of the XML changes), therefore I am refreshing my
    HTTPService results every 5 seconds:
    [Bindable]
    public var myDataFeed:XML;
    private function initApp():void
    var timedProcess:uint = setInterval(refreshResults, 5000);
    private function refreshResults():void
    myResults.send();
    private function resultHandler(event:ResultEvent):void
    myDataFeed = event.result as XML;
    My problem is that sometimes the XML file needs longer than 5
    seconds to load / refresh the data (as it is quite heavy)
    etc… therefore I want to implement some sort of event
    listener on the HTTPService to let the application know when the
    results have been refreshed so I can restrict / the 5 second
    refresh taking place until the previos refresh is complete
    etc…
    is this possible – to set an event listener to a
    HTTPService to know when it has completed refreshing results from
    an XML file???
    Thanks,
    Jon.

    result="resultHandler(event)" <--- is already an event
    listener.
    btw if you have a live XML you might want to consider xml
    socket connection so that server will push data to client .(lot
    more efficient)

  • Best design of event listener

    I'm working on a large project and having a problem about writing an event listener in my application. There are so many swing components and writing an event listener for each component is time consume. So I'm planning to write an adapter class for all or most of my swing components and I need suggestion.
    Is there anyone who use to do this before and how or there are an alternate way to solve this problem.
    I'm also using object manager. please see http://forum.java.sun.com/thread.jsp?forum=425&thread=373030&tstart=15&trange=15
    Thank in advance.

    I'm planning to write an adapter class for all or most
    of my swing components and I need suggestion.Do you really need to handle events from all of your components? Do you do different things depending on the component?
    If yes, then you'll need to write code to do those different things, and wrapping that code in an ActionListener really isn't much more work. If you find that you're repeating a lot of code (for example, to retrieve state from the application before doing whatever the event does), then use abstract classes to handle the boilerplate.
    One approach that I use is to have a MenuHandler class, that contains abstract classes for boilerplate and a lot of static inner classes that do the actual work (or tie to an Operations class that does the actual work). This minimizes the number of sourcefiles, which is my big problem with separate listenerers (note that this doesn't change the number of class files, just the number of source files).

    The service is working fine from a web page that my coworker did.  I have not installed soap UI yet, but I used it at my last job.  Since I posted this I have a new computer, have installed BizTalk Server 2013 R2 and Visual Studio 2013 Premium.
     This is what I've done...
    Created a new Host called BizTalkServerApplication64 with the '32-Bit only' unchecked.
    Created a new host instance using the new host.
    Created a new Send Handler for both Adapters 'WCF-BasicHttp' and 'WCF-Custom' using the new host.
     configured both Send Ports (WCF-BasicHttp and WCF-Custom) to use the new send handler.
    Have tried binding the logical port to both basic and the custom ports.
    Now I get a different error which is:
    Error Description: System.ServiceModel.CommunicationException: An error occurred while receiving the HTTP response to http://lbenson/MDSVC2/Service1.svc. This could be due to the service endpoint binding not using the HTTP protocol. This could also be due
    to an HTTP request context being aborted by the server (possibly due to the service shutting down). See server logs for more details. ---> System.Net.WebException: The underlying connection was closed: An unexpected error occurred on a receive. --->
    System.IO.IOException: Unable to read data from the transport connection: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host. ---> System.Net.Sockets.SocketException: An existing connection was forcibly closed by the remote host...
    Any suggestions for this error?  I'm not sure if this means I'm closer to getting it work or further.
    Thanks for your help!

  • How to add event listener?

    i want to add event listener when i click on a button in mxml, the event listener should be added in the action script file, how to do this?
    can anyone help? urgent!!!

    Hi Lakshmi,
    You can do this just put all the script in the mxml block in seperate AS file as shown below... Observe that I have included an AS file named Script.as and removed the script block form mxml and moved to this Script.as file. Place the Script.as file in your src folder ....
    // Main mxml file....
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" creationComplete="onCreationComplete()">
        <mx:Script source="Script.as"/>
    <mx:TextArea id="textArea" width="300" height="100" />
    <mx:Button id="myButton" label="Click ME"/>
    </mx:Application>
    //Script.as file
    import mx.controls.Alert;
                private function onCreationComplete():void
                 myButton.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, onButtonClick);
                private function onButtonClick(event:MouseEvent):void
                 Alert.show("Button is Clicked");
    Thanks,

  • 8.1, Change pageflow state from event listener

    Hi,
    I've implemented an event listener in a backing file (like in the custom event
    tutorial ).
    The backing file is assigned to a portlet.
    Is it possible to change the state of the portlets pageflow when an event is received?
    I want to reset the pageflow so that the 'begin' action is executed again.
    From the tutorial and sample portal I found out, that how to change the window
    mode or the visibility, but I can't find any methods for setting the current url/action.
    Another solution would be to setup a listenTo relationship and redirect the incoming
    actions to the 'begin' action. What I'm missing here is the possibility to trigger
    such an event from a page flow (which is possible when using custom events). Can
    this be done?
    Bye
    Achim

    try to go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Administrative Tools
    Disable and set the trigger as never at task scheduler > time sync
    You can also try to clean boot
