Files given random numbers (not by me)

On some of my documents, after saving, there is a number at the top (like this BUSINES#4042A7)- I didn't put it there and it replaces some of the text I DID save it under. It also sometimes happens that those files that have been given numbers (from wherever) get wiped. I lost a load of research work this way.
What is going on?

#1 It would help us greatly if we knew what program you are using!
Whenever something starts going wrong with the computer I suggest you first boot from the installer disk, run Disk Utility and verify (and repair if necessary) the drive. Then repair the preferences on your computer. You can also repair preferences from DU on your main drive while booted, but to properly verify and repair your drive you have to run it from a drive other than the boot drive.

The procedures I suggested above might help if it is your operating system having problems. You can also try trashing the program's preferences, but we can't tell you what those might be named without knowing the program. If it is the software you are using then it might help to refer the question to the software writer's own help forum (if such exists).

Pay no attention to iinami, the amount of replies to people saying their handsets must have been jailbroken everytime iTunes throws out an error is tremendous. (Clearly you don't need to have any real knowledge to get to level 3 on these forums, let's hope apple's geniuses know a lot more than some of their customers.)

Error 9
This error occurs when the device unexpectedly loses its USB connection with iTunes. This can occur if the device is manually disconnected during the restore process. This issue can be resolved by performing USB troubleshooting, using a different USB dock-connector cable, trying another USB port, restoring on another computer, or by eliminating conflicts from third-party security software.

Random Numbers not playing fair!

Hi All.
Can anyone explain why I keep getting the same number out of the Random class? Each time I run my program, I get a different number, but it then repeats that same 'random' number. I've tried using the Math.random and that didn't seem to work either.

This "repeating the same number" problem of Random is
usually because it's instantiated many times in a
loop. Random takes its seed from the system clock with
a resolution of 1 millisecond. If random is
instantiated many times during 1 millisecond it will
use the same seed and thus deliver the same random
numbers.That's all true, but he said he experienced this with java.lang.Math.random() which reuses the same random number generator. Here's the source for it:

Problem is , if i run this code with condition k<79 or some other smaller value than 80 it doesnt save any value in text file.

If you close the file after writing it works: fw.close();

iBookstore Publisher Support send me a fast response email which included some helpful info:
Please make sure that all image files inside the ePub end with one of the following: ".tif", ".jpg", or ".png" and that the file itself matches the file extension type. To check if the image file matches the file extension type, please right click on the image then select "Get Info". Once the info tab appears, please make sure that the file extension type of the image file matches the "Kind" found under "General".
For further information regarding embedded images, please refer to the iBookstore Asset Guide, which is available for download in the Deliver Your Content module in iTunes Connect.
And they INCLUDED THE TRANSPORTER LOG (!), the log generated by iTunes Producer as it tries to upload a book. We were able to search for the Validation Error # within the log and find out which image Producer was trying to upload when it encountered an error. Turns out the problem was a corrupted screenshot jpeg.

Okay, Even if i remove the scene numbers from Story and export the file to Final Draft 8. The format in incorrect. The "transitions" ex. CUT TO: are not in the correct allignment. Also there are numbers on each of the dialogues
Pretty much alot of the formatting is not the same. Spaces that break dialouge and action which are there in Story, are not converted over to Final Draft.
Please fix this as soon as possible.

This file was created in 2002 in MSword but this had been forgotten.
When I went to open it.... (MSword) was not a program option on my laptop. For some reason, I assumed that either Pages or Numbers wouild open the file. How the file was created was forgotten and had no file Info, but I new that it was a table of valuable information.
The warning threw me off, because it led me to believe that it was a Numbers file. which Numbers would not open. A paradox.
I took the file to a laptop in OSXpanther with MSoffice and it opened in MSword. Problem Solved.

In Excel have you tried saving directly to xls (not xlsx) and opening the xls in Numbers?
If you have a complicated workbook in Excel that uses lots of Excel's advanced features, Numbers may not be able to handle the import. It does pretty well on basic things, though.
If you're just trying to get data into Numbers, then often copy-paste from Excel is easier than trying to open xls files.

I'm trying to upload our iBook. I first did an export outside of publish, then did publish and reloaded everything under the .itmsp file publish created. About 10 minutes into the upload, I received a message that read:

I had done screen shots on the iPad and then emailed them to my Mac. I then worked to cut the black bar off the top, but some how Photoshop wasn't saving them correctly. I couldn't even reopen them in PS. So, I downloaded them again, went back in, saved them as .jpegs and then reuploaded. That solved it. It was quite bizarre.
Now trying to get the description listing right in the iBookstore.
I wrote the piece out, I thought in TextEdit. Then pasted it into the box in iTunesProducer. When I was getting the error message above, it also was saying that there's a 4,000-character limit. So, I copied it into Pages and did a character count and saw 3,887. I still had to cut about 500 chactacters out. Support responded and said I was still very close to the limit, so I don't know what it was they were counting. My Pages counter said it was close to 3,300....
My problem now is that they have bullet points on lines with no text now. They've fixed it from how it was first diplaying. So, I'm trying to get that cleaned up. It's their fault, but it looks like me, the publisher, is the one who is clueless......

Why are many files in Keynote, Pages and Numbers not opening? I have re-downloaded the apps but with no joy!

Strange. The photos that don't display in Aperture will still display in iPhoto but when I view the info the file doesn't show resolution information only for those problematic photos
Files sizes are almost all jpeg. Once I reference the file in iPhoto, the master displayed resolution for the photo within finder. The photo's original file also opened in preview and photoshop.

I am trying to export a Numbers spreadsheet to a csv file, but it does not put the commas in. I want to use it with an HTML table generator tool, but the tool is looking for commas. The Export to CSV exports it as a spreadsheet with all the formatting removed, and no commas.

Numbers '09 create CSV files with comma separated values if and only if your system is using decimal period.
If the system is using decimal comma, the CSV files are created using semi-colon as separator.

I have the same problem. For about 1 month ago I extended my iCloud storage account (+20 GB) in order to maintain my backups for iPHONE and iPAD as my account would expire 14/10. In spite of this, I got an email 15/10, which said that iCloud was reduced to 5 GB. 2 hours later I received a new email with comfirmation on the purchase of +20 GB storage plan. However, I only have access to 5 GB on my iPad and iPhone. Called Apple Support but they couldn´t help me. Did you find any solution ?

1. Sync wasn't intended to be used in that manner. You would be better off carrying around a USB Flash Stick with Portable Firefox for use on "strange" PC's.
2. You could open the "Library" {Ctrl + Shift + B} and highlight all those bookmarks and then delete them all at once. But that would also delete all the other bookmarks, and it isn't foolproof. All another person would need to do it to '''''restore''''' a bookmark backup file that has your bookmarks. Beyond that, a new Profile could be created and then the current Profile deleted; but that's "messing with" someone else's computer - an action that is worthy of terminating a friendship over, IMO.
And if that "public" computer was set up properly, Sync should have been disabled.

When I returned home yesterday, I turned on my computer and about half (randomly numbered) of my photos downloaded to Photo Stream. I have been waiting for about 36 hours now and the rest have not downloaded. What could be the problem?
As additional infromation, I tried turning OFF Photo Stream on the I Cloud Control Panel and then back ON to no avail. And all my previous pictures (taken on other trips) have downloaded completly with no problems.

Have you checked your Photos application for Photostream? Photos are saved for 30 days in photo stream and can be moved to camera roll.

Excel file in mail will not open in numbers

I received an email with an excel file, and when I go to open it , numbers quits and won't open it.
I have recently had to replace my hard drive on my 24 " imac , and I am running osx 10.8.5
I never had this problem before.
Any help would be appreciated.

Do you know the version of Excel and version of Number's installed? Also, please describe the method you are using for opening the document. I've had good luck by simply dragging the Excel file to the Numbers icon in the Dock.
