Files in AUDIT_FILE_DEST
Hello;
I am looking to turn on AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS and have found somthing that puzzles me. My current Parameter Values are:
audit_file_dest = /u00/app/oracle/admin/MYSID/adump
audit_sys_operations = FALSE
audit_syslog_level = NULL
audit_trail = DB
This would lead my to think that no files(current) should be found in /u00/app/oracle/admin/MYSID/adump. However that is not the case. I am finding a bunch of file with current time stamps.

The number in the file name relates to a OS PID. Inside the ora_21331.aud file:

I understand this is a SYS level connection being made by the oracel user on my database server but why is it being written and why one file per OS PID?
Any help would be great!
Hi Srini;
Thanks for the reply. I am actually doing my work from the document you pointed out. So when I set AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS = TRUE i will begin to see the actions taken not just the connections? Is it normal that every OS PID creates a new file?

My database is running on 11.1.0.7 on HPUX Itanium environment.
Could you please tell me whether I can delete the files under audit_file_dest? (since it is consuming space)

Audit records can be stored in either a data dictionary table, called the database audit trail, or in operating system files, called an operating system audit trail.
There are three general types of auditing:
Standard auditing. Use standard auditing for SQL statements, privileges, schemas, objects, and network and multitier activity. Standard audit records are written to either of the following locations:
SYS.AUD$ system table. You can view the contents of this table by querying the DBA_AUDIT_TRAIL data dictionary view, or the DBA_COMMON_AUDIT_TRAIL view, which combines standard and fine-grained audit log records.
Operating system files. In addition to writing the audit trail in operating system file format, you can write it in XML format as well. -
I enabled AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS parameter to TRUE. But i can't find any audit file at AUDIT_FILE_DEST. Do i have to enable anything else?

AUDIT_TRAIL enables or disables database auditing.
Values:
none
Disables database auditing.
os
Enables database auditing and directs all audit records to the operating system's audit trail.
db
Enables database auditing and directs all audit records to the database audit trail (the SYS.AUD$ table).
db,extended
Enables database auditing and directs all audit records to the database audit trail (the SYS.AUD$ table). In addition, populates the SQLBIND and SQLTEXT CLOB columns of the SYS.AUD$ table.
xml
Enables database auditing and writes all audit records to XML format OS files.
xml,extended
Enables database auditing and prints all columns of the audit trail, including SqlText and SqlBind values.

Use of sqlplus / as sysdba in oracle 11g
What is purpose of sqlplus / as sysdba
if the database is at client place he can see the data by modifying the existing users password right?
how to restrict logging under sqlplus / as sysdba by giving some password for it to login933663 wrote:

Any sys table is there to track the records
Thanks!Unless you have changed the defaults, all connect attempts by normal users are logged to the sys.ayd$ table, and all connects as sysdba are logged to files in audit_file_dest (Unix) or the application log (Windows).

How to establish a single init.ora file for 3 node RAC under ASM
All,
Our environment is a combination of several different memory sized SUN machines (V880, V490 & 250R).
Setting up a single init.ora file that encompasses each of the nodes memory into the SGA sizing is our desired setup.
Though we have established the file, the question is getting each NODE on the RAC to use that single parameter
file to start its database instead of taking the default init.ora file in the default (asm/dbs) directory.
As we have performed fail-over testing, upon the restart of instances they have restarted with wrong memory
definitions that have hung the nodes when it took more memory then what was available and swap space began
to grow.
Steps to configure and enable this process is what I am looking for.
Thanks
GerryGerry,
Here's what we do. Not sure if it is relevant to your situation ...

I have one problem with Data Guard. My archive log files are not applied. However I have received all archive log files to my physical Standby db
I have created a Physical Standby database on Oracle 10gR2 (Windows XP professional). Primary database is on another computer.
In Enterprise Manager on Primary database it looks ok. I get the following message Data Guard status Normal
But as I wrote above the archive log files are not applied
After I created the Physical Standby database, I have also done:
1. I connected to the Physical Standby database instance.
CONNECT SYS/SYS@luda AS SYSDBA
2. I started the Oracle instance at the Physical Standby database without mounting the database.
STARTUP NOMOUNT PFILE=C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1\database\initluda.ora
3. I mounted the Physical Standby database:
ALTER DATABASE MOUNT STANDBY DATABASE
4. I started redo apply on Physical Standby database
alter database recover managed standby database disconnect from session
5. I switched the log files on Physical Standby database
alter system switch logfile

Please help me!!!!Hi,
After several tries my redo logs are applied now. I think in my case it had to do with the tnsnames.ora. At this moment I have both database in both tnsnames.ora files using the SID and not the SERVICE_NAME.
Now I want to use DGMGRL. Adding a configuration and a stand-by database is working fine, but when I try to enable the configuration DGMGRL gives no feedback and it looks like it is hanging. The log, although says that it succeeded.
In another session 'show configuration' results in the following, confirming that the enable succeeded.
DGMGRL> show configuration

Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
Databases:

It there anybody that experienced the same problem and/or knows the solution to this?

Edited by: ayadsufyan on 21-Nov-2012 01:30I'd say the error message is pretty self-evident:
ORA-00202: control file: 'E:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\10.2.0\ORADATA\ORCL\CONTROL01.CTL'
ORA-27041: unable to open file
OSD-04002: unable to open file
O/S-Error: (OS 2) can not find the specified fileWhat do you suppose "can not find the specified file" means?
And what does this have to do with database security? -
Data Guard. My archive log files are not applied.
6. I verified the redo data was received and archived on Physical Standby database

Configuration
Name: avhtest
Enabled: YES
Protection Mode: MaxPerformance
Fast-Start Failover: DISABLED
Databases:
avhtest - Primary database
avhtestls53 - Physical standby database
Current status for "avhtest":
Warning: ORA-16610: command 'ENABLE CONFIGURATION' in progress
It there anybody that experienced the same problem and/or knows the solution to this?
With kind regards,
Martin Schaap -
Very large bdump file sizes, how to solve?
Hi gurus,
I currently always find my disk space is not enough, after checking, it is the oraclexe/admin/bdump, there's currently 3.2G for it, my database is very small, only holding datas of 10mb.
It didn't happen before, only currently.
I don't know why it happened, I have deleted some old files in that folder, but today I found it is still very large compare to my database.
I am running an apex application with xe, the applcaitions works well, we didn't see anything wrong, but only the bdump file very big.
any tip to solve this? thanks
here comes my alert_xe.log file content:

Cannot connect to database because log file is deleted
Greetings,
I just recently cleaned up some junk files from my PC and didn't realize that an oracle log file got deleted. Therefore when I try to connect to the database I got the following error:
ORA-01033: ORACLE initialization or shutdown in progress
From sql plus, I try to shutdown and startup the database so that I know what kind of file that got deleted. So, how can I fix the problem?
regards,
valerie

There is no file audit in adump directory
Dear All,
I have an issue when I enable auditing feature in oracle,
I use 'DB' to store the audit from user in oracle, my command is
SQL>alter system set audit_trail=db scope=spfile;
SQL>shutdown immediate;
SQL>startup;
in show parameter audit, I see that the audit_trail already changed to DB
after I create a user and enable audit for this user, I can see in the audit table dba_audit_trail for insert, update, delete,etc
but If I am not wrong, if I using DB to setting the audit parameter then I will get audit file both in oracle table and in adump oracle folder installation, but in my case I cannot find any file in adump directory
my operating system is windows7 and I use oracle database 10g express edition,
Is there any sintax that I have not typed it ?
please advice,
thanks & regards,
achmadHi, JohnWatson wrote the answer,
"How the Operating System Audit Trail Works
The operating system audit trail writes the audit data to an operating system file. You can enable this feature by setting the AUDIT_TRAIL parameter to one of the following values:
OS: Writes the audit trail records to a text operating system file on UNIX systems and to the applications Event Viewer on Microsoft Windows.
XML: Writes the audit trail records to an XML file.
XML, EXTENDED: Writes the audit trail records to an XML file and includes SQL text and SQL bind information in the operating system XML audit files.
The AUDIT_FILE_DEST initialization parameter sets the location of the operating system audit file. If you want to audit top-level statements issued by users who log in to the database with the SYSDBA or SYSOPER privilege, then set the AUDIT_SYS_OPERATIONS parameter to TRUE. See Table 9-2, "AUDIT_TRAIL Parameter Settings" for more information about these settings.
The records that are written to an operating system file are not recorded to the SYS.AUD$ and SYS.FGA_LOG$ tables. You can still view the contents of the XML operating system audit files by querying the DBA_COMMON_AUDIT_TRAIL data dictionary views. Querying this view parses all XML files (all files with an .xml extension) in the AUDIT_FILE_DEST directory, and then presents them in relational table format. Because XML is a standard document format, many utilities are available to parse and analyze XML data. Consult the operating system-specific Oracle Database documentation to find if this feature has been implemented on your operating system."

Extremely large bdump files for XE!!!
Hi,
I currently always find my disk space is not enough, after checking, it is the oraclexe/admin/bdump, there's currently 3.2G for it, my database is very small, only holding datas of 10mb.
