Fill up or across cells in pages table

Does anyone know if you can "fill" cells with a formula up or across a pages table as you can in numbers?

In Pages 5, you can fill in any direction. Just Select the cell or cells and Drag the Yellow Dot in the middle of the selection border.
In Pages 4, the Fill Handle is always in the lower right corner of the selection, and you can drag / fill in any direction.
If you Fill from the Menu line, use Format > Table > Fill and choose the direction.

  • How can I save semi opaque background fill in a pages table cells?

I am trying to add background colour fill to some cells of a table.  Solid, 100% fill is easy, but when I slide the opacity slider in the colours window and add to a cell, the new colour can be added to the table cell, but only saves as the full 100% colour in the saved document.  I save the Pages document as a Word document.  Thanks for any help.

How does it work if you save the document as the native .pages format? A lot of Pages features doesn't convert well to Word, or vice versa. Don't expect Pages to be a cheap Word substitute.
I can't check out what you are describing as I don't have Word.
Tip: Always save first as .pages, then you can EXPORT to another format. PDF is better format to retain what you have acheived in Pages.

  • I can no longer tab between cells in a table with pages 5.0.

I use pages everyday for filling in my work booking sheets. I need to have them synching to the cloud, so I can access the client information while on the road.
My booking sheet is basically a large table with many cells for name, address, phone number, etc. In pages 4.3 I could enter some information into the cell, hit the tab button, and it would go straight to the next cell in the table. This was a quick and easy way for me to fill out my forms on the computer.
Well, since the update, the tab button only moves the cursor over in the same cell, as opposed to the next cell. It is VERY rare to need to tab in a cell, as opposed to going to the next cell.
I did figure out that I could Option+ Tab to move to the next cell, but it is very hard to change my procedure of tabbing after all this timing doing it the other way.
Am I just missing a preferance to tab between cells, instead of inside a cell?
    Thanks
    Dave

Option-tab makes sense and can be done with the left hand's thumb/forefinger.
Using tab was always arse-backwards as it defeated the use of tab within the table cell.
Best to use both for what they always do:
Option tab or an arrow key (singular) to jump cells
tab to jump to the next tab in the text wherever it is within or without cells.
The contrary precedence was set by Microsoft and was a bad idea. In good UI you do not have shortucts reverse roles such that you need to pay excessive attention to the context.

  • How to insert an in-line image into a table cell using Pages on OS X?

How can I insert an image into a table cell using Pages (OS X) without it becoming the cell background? I want it to be a regular in-line image, but can't figure out how to do this for the life of me. Thanks!

    Welcome to Discussions.
To insert an image into a cell, select the cell, then go to the Graphics Inspector and from the Fill drop down choose Image Fill and then select then image you want. You can now select from a new drop down how you want the image to fit.

  • Auto update of time/date in a table cell in pages

I used to be able to do this in older versions.
In pages when I have a table cell with time/date I would like to have the current date show up every time I open the document. Not on every date in the document, but just in a set cell in a  table.

  • How can I insert/move a table cell in Pages?

I'm making labels for tab dividers (specifically, for dividers in comic book boxes) and I'm trying to figure out how I can insert an empty cell in the table. Or move the other cells over/down and have them "wrap" from the end of the row to the beginning of the next row if neccessary. Can this be done?

    KonKrypton wrote:
Jerrold, I can do that, but I was hoping for a way to "scootch over" the cells so I can keep them in order. That would require me to cut and paste every cell from the target cell to the end of the document (or page). I have a feeling that what I'm looking for doesn't exist.
    Thanks, I appreciate the idea.
    Kon,
It would be easy to move a group of rows, but there's no way to get it to snake down or up. This is a 2-D array, not not a linear array that has been meandered into a rectangle. You could write an expression to do this, but it would take several steps, and would involve a second table. You could also write an Applescript to do what you want. All of this seems a lot of work for what, as Peter notes, seems a rather simple result.

  • How do you set defaults in pages such as font and moving between cells in a table?

How do you set defaults in Pages such as font and moving between cells in a table?

Default layout and styles can be set by setting up a sheet with your settings and saving as a user template (File > Save As Template).  I don't know of a way to set defaults for moving between cells in a table.

How do you change/adjust border width for all the cells in a table created in Pages?
Note- I am trying to figure out how to create and format tables in the latest version of the Pages app on an iPad air (iOS 8.1.1.1) . Creating tables, adding or removing borders for individual/all cells in a table seems straight forward. However the default border style seems to be a heavy black line. How do I change this?
I found the option add or remove borders for all/ individual cells in a table, however I can't find any option within style/format dialogue screens for changing colour or line thickness for table cells. Likewise I can't find any clear instructions on how to do this in apple help pages or support website
Btw- I'm assuming  it is possible to customize/adjust the colour & thickness of selected lines in a table created in this app (it's fairly easy to do this word processing apps like MS Word) please let me  know if this is not actually possible in Pages

They know perfectly well what they took out of Pages '09.
    Well over 90 features.
Do you think you posting feedback is going to remind them of what they did?

Pages '09 should still be in your Applications/iWork folder.
Archive/trash Pages 5 and rate/review it in the App Store, then get back to work.

  • Adding JUST ONE CELL to a table within Pages

    Hello,
I would like to add +just one cell+ to a table within "Pages" - but as far as I can see the program only offers to add whole lines or columns. (Within "MS Word", you have the possibility to "add cells" in a table - you can decide whether you want to shift the other cells downward or to the right.)
    Do I miss something?
    Thanks for your help.
    nb.

Maybe I should have said: Is there a function within Pages that is equivalent to the (very useful) one within Word. There isn't, I'm afraid.
Can I adjust only the size of one cell (with the mouse, by clicking on the vertical/horizontal line) without changing the size of the whole column/line? I guess that it should be working - I didn't manage to do it - might be kind of tricky.
    As I said: Thank you!
    All the best,
    nb.

  • How is it possible to split the table cells in Pages, Version 5.1

How is it possible to split the table cells in Pages, Version 5.1?

This is a feature removed in the change from Pages 09 to Pages 5.0.1.
If you need this facility, revert to Pages 09.  If you upgraded to 5.0.1, then the earlier version is still in your Applications folder in a folder called iWork.

  • Place image in table cell in pages for iOS 5

Can I place an image into a table cell in pages for iphone? This would keep me from having to take my expensive MBA out on the dangerous (for the computer) jobsite.  It would change my life to be able to do this on the iphone as my reports require it.  As of yet I've found no way to do this.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Put the text cursor in the cell and use the regual Place command. The image will be placed as an inline graphic in the empty paragraph.

  • Automatically fill cells from reference table

Not sure if this is even possible, but I thought I'd ask and see if anyone knows of a way to do this. Here goes.
Can I have cells fill in information automatically from a reference table in another sheet? What I'm trying to do is this:
I need to keep training records for a group. What I've created is a numbers document with two sheets. In the first sheet, I have a single table with two columns that lists all of the training courses in column B with their course codes in column A. For example, let's say that course C32 (listed in Column A) is a "Basic Training" course (so "Basic Training" is in column B). On the next row is the next course, the next row is the next course, etc. This is my reference table.
Now in the second sheet, I have a table for each person. Each table is three columns. In the first I enter the course code they've taken, in the second I enter the date they took it, and what I'd LIKE to have happen is that when I enter the course code in Column A, the description from the reference table automatically fills into the third column. That way I don't have to type all the course descriptions over and over. (Some of them are fairly lengthy).
Is there any way to do this in numbers?
    Thanks

Yes, it is possible. Use the LOOKUP function. However, your lookup table must be in the same document, but can be on a separate sheet.
Create a table of the course names (2 columns, code in A and name in B) and call the table (not the containing sheet) something significant such as "Course names". Then in Column C of each persons table use the formula =LOOKUP(A, Course Names :: A, Course names :: B). This says take the code reference from the first cell on the line (local column A) and compare it with the codes in the first column (Course names :: A) of the Course names table, and return the value from the second column (Course names :: B) of the matching row.
Remember to enter the formula as a column formula to save having to repeat it in each cell.

  • I want to reference a cell from another table and fill it with text

I I have several tables that update each other with data from the previous one. These tables are identical and follow each other by date. In each table is a cell (B1) where a persons name goes. the cell (B2) references another cell from a previous dated table. Some days, consecutively, no name is entered in to cell B1. I want cell B2 to always refer back to the most recent table with a name is cell B1. How can this be done?
I have written this formula (applied to cell B2 of this example) already: IF(Day 1::B1="","",IF(Day 1::B1≥"",Day 1::B1))  but it only references the previous days table and stops there. Some days nothing is inputed into cell B1 causing causing the following days table cell B2 to show "0".

"I am having trouble getting the formulas you suggested to work. I am not sure where the problem is coming from. Could you look at the following spreadsheet and tell me where I am going wrong? The following pic shows Day 1 and AUX tables. In Day 1 cell B1 a Drivers name is entered. As you can see by the formula that you gave the B2 is for "Product" not the drivers name "David"."
    Hi br,
The formulas provided above apply directly to the set of tables shown with them. In each of these tables, the target cell, containing the name of the driver for that day is cell B2 on the table for that day.
For Day 1, the driver is Huey, found in cell B2 of Table 1, and the cell reference to retrieve the information from that cell is =Table 1::B2
The formula in B2 of Aux uses INDIRECT to build that cell reference from the fixed text string "Table ", the calculated value ROW()-1, and the text string "::B2"
ROW() returns the number of the row in which the function sits. In B2, that's row 2, and ROW() returns 2. -1 subtracts 1 from that value, leaving 1. In B2, ROW()-1 returns 1.
The ampersand is the concatenation operator. It joins the value before it to the value following it. The result is a text string. in the INDIRECT part of the formula, there are two & operators, one after "Table ", the other after ROW()-1.
"Table " & ROW()-1 & "::B2" with the result of ROW()-1 as the value between the two text strings.
    "Table " & 1 & "::B2"   =   "Table 1::B2"
INDIRECT( ) takes that text and converts it to the cell address that it represents.
    B2: =IF(LEN(INDIRECT("Table "&ROW()-1&"::B2"))<1,"",INDIRECT("Table "&ROW()-1&"::B2"))
The first instance on the string in the formula is a test to see if there is anything in the target cell. If not, the formula returns a null string. If there is at least 1 character there, the second instance of INDIRECT is called on to return the name to B2 of the table Aux.
    Compare your formula below:
    B4: =IF(LEN(INDIRECT("Day 3"&ROW()-1&"::B2"))<1,"",INDIRECT("Day 3"&ROW()-1&"::B2"))
As shown, this is the formula in B4 of your Aux table. In Row 4, ROW() returns 4, and ROW()-1 returns 3.
So the three elements of the cell address constructed in INDIRECT are "Day 3", 3, and "::B2"
The cell being addressed is "Day 33::B2", cell B2 on the table named Day 33.
The error results from there being no table with that name.
The fix (to the table part of the reference) is to change the first text string to "Day " (including the space after the word Day).
The fix to replace Product with the driver name is to change "::B2" to ::B1"
To fit the names of your day tables and the location of the driver's name on each, your formula in B2 should read:
    B2: =IF(LEN(INDIRECT("Day "&ROW()-1&"::B1"))<1,"",INDIRECT("Day "&ROW()-1&"::B1"))

    Barry
