Fin Reports - Ragged Hierarchies

Hi,
Is it possible to define the level 1 members of a certain parent value in the report?  I have a ragged hierarchy and I need to get all level 1 members from the Cost of Sales member in the Accounts.   Can't figure out how to do that.
Thanks in advance

Yes.  This is possible in FR.  Here are the steps:
1)  Select your account in the FR report grid (presumably in the rows).
2)  Press the Account button to get your member selection window.
3)  Select the "Lists" tab.  Select "Lev1, Account".
4)  Select the "Functions" tab.  Select "Descendants" and select your "Cost of Sales" member.
5)  Press the "View" button (upper right corner).  Select "Advanced".
5)  Change your operator to "AND".
Now you should have "Lev1, Account" AND "Descendants of Cost of Sales" in your "Selected" window.  Press "OK" and test.
Hope this helps,
- Jake

  • What are the valid 'sources' for Fin Reports 11.1.2?

    Hi,
    Have a client that wants to report using Fin Reports 11.1.2. He wants to connect to a Oracle Schema or SQL Server data warehouse and then connect to Essbase/Planning cube and also to the Planning relational tables to report on supporting detail etc. I don't think FR can connect to a relational source other than HFM and/or Planning Detail. Is that correct? Or can it connect to any Oracle/SQL server database and report off that too. I thought Interactive Reporting (Brio) is the tool for that.
    Please advise.

    Hi,
    Here is the whole list: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12825_01/epm.111/bpmui_user/database_manager_fr.html

  • Ragged Hierarchies and extra joins

    We have an ORG_DIM with a three-level logical hierarchy (LVL-All, LVL-1, LVL-2, LVL-3 -- the leaf/detail level). The primary key is LVL3_KEY; LVL2_KEY and LVL1_KEY are level keys. We have a SYS_DIM with the trival (all/detail) logical hierarchy and SYS_KEY primary key.
    We have a base fact and two aggregate facts -- LVL1_FACT, LVL2_FACT and LVL3_FACT (level 3 is the base); the logical Fact - Lvls has an LTS for each of these physical fact tables. The base fact (LVL3_FACT) has LVL13_KEY and SYS_KEY as its primary key and also has columns LVL2_KEY and LVL1_KEY; the aggregate facts lose LVL3_KEY and LVL2_KEY, respectively.
    ORG_DIM represents a flattened skip-level hierarchy. (There are actually more levels and more tables, but I am simplifying the problem for this description.)
    We also have an ORG_STACK table (ORGNAME, ORGKEY, PARENTORGKEY, LFT, RT, STACKLVL), following a method for implementing ragged hierarchies proposed by Kurt Wolff and Joe Celko. The ORG_STACK table has three aliases -- ORG_PARENTS, ORG_CHILDREN and ORG_LEAVES. The first two are joined on (ORG_CHILDREN.PARENTORGKEY=ORG_PARENTS.ORGKEY). The latter two are joined on (ORG_CHILDREN.LFT BETWEEN ORG_LEAVES.LFT AND ORG_LEAVES.RT) -- a complex physical join. ORG_LEAVES joins to LVL3_FACT on ORG_LEAVES.ORG_KEY=LVL3_FACT.LVL3_KEY. The logical Fact - Lvls has a 4th LTS in which ORG_LEAVES and LVL3_FACT are joined.
    We run a query in answers that invokes columns from logical tables Dim - OrgChildren, Dim - OrgParents and Fact - Lvls; one of the columns from Fact - Lvls is mapped only in the LTS that joines ORG_LEAVES with LVL3_FACT. This query spins for a long time without returning any result, so we end up cancelling it. We intend to have a DBA look at it.
    The generated SQL includes those tables (ORG_STACK aliases and LVL3_FACT) plus ORG_DIM and SYS_DIM. We can see nothing in the query that requires ORG_DIM or SYS_DIM; how can we determine why these are included in the SQL?
    Queries that used columns from Dim - Org also showed poor performance after the other Dim - OrgXXX (the stack suff) were added. Presumably this was because the LTS for Fact - Lvls that maps to LVL3_FACT also joined the (much larger) ORG_STACK table via ORG_LEAVES. Adding the 4th LTS for that (leaving the 3rd LTS mapped only to LVL3_FACT) should have resolved this. However, the interesting this is that removing the logical join between Dim - OrgChildren and Fact - Lvls resolved this problem. If the problem was ORG_LEAVES and LVL3_FACT joined in the LTS, then removing a logical join should not have affected it.

    Chandra Kanth,
    Hope this helps you

  • Any ideas -- related to Fin Reporting

    Hi
    Can any one tell me how we can reflect the two grid data values in one chart. Is it possible using Hyperion FR.
    Thanks
    M.V

    Thanks John for the reply.
    I have more details regarding error now
    error "Invalid or could not find module configuration"
    "required application module Hyperion Planning.Planning is not configured. Please contact your administrator. "
    now database connection is OK; should I import reports again in specific folder.
    I am using Workspace only for Fin reporting. another user imported reports so i am not aware is he made database connection or not.
    please suggest right approach to handle this issue as I always experience right solution from you (may be sometime extra detail i ask).

    hi,
    we can update bw infocube with planning data within a day, using datamart scenario, we generate datasource in apo for that planning area and replicate to bw, assign to infosource, and feed to bw infocube. steps
    - logon scm, transaction /sapapo/msdp_admin, right click your planning area and 'display'(or 'change'
    - in next screen, menu extras->generate datasource, given datasource name and click 'V', in next screen datasource screen, check if any 'hidden' should be remove, and 'save'. the datasource will succesfully generated. to test and check etc, menu extras->data extraction tools.
    - logon to bw, right click apo source system (create it if you haven't), and choose 'datasource overview', expand 'bw datasources' ->business information warehouse -> datamarts -> right click datamarts and 'replicate datasource'
    - create infosource in bw and assign with that datasource
    - create infocube and update rules with that infosource and following bw standard steps
    hope this helps.

  • Latest time period setting in Fin Reports

    Hi,
    I have fin reports that are generating the following error..
    Error 1012709 - For virtual time series, the latest time period setting (Period) is not a level 0 member
    I know what the error means, but where do I set it to be Mar etc? I know where to do it in the excel addin but for Fin Reports??
    Cheers
    CD

    Solved in the planning forum, but if anybody is interested the answer is
    In Workspace, go to File > Preferences > Financial Reporting.
    There is a point of view section.
    Preview on/off, on brings up the POV selector before running a report.
    Also in section you can setup your default members to be used in the POVs.
    Cheers

  • Support for ragged hierarchies?

    Are ragged (i.e. variable depth) hierarchies supported in Universe Designer? Do any of the Business Objects tools provide support for ragged hierarchies or is this considered an ETL/data modeling issue?
    We are embarking on a project using the Data Services, Universe Designer and Xcelsius tools and we are trying to figure out how to handle ragged hierarchies.
    Thanks!

    Hi Didier ,
    I have gone thought the document of Universe design tool :- SAP Business Objects XI 4.0 created on 2010-12-24 on SAP Portal .
    This document dont have any information regarding the Ragged Hierarchy .
    Can you please let me know whether downloads of SAP Business Objects BI 4.0  which are available on SAP Portal Supports ragged Hierarchy or We need to wait for next patch or release?

  • Fin Reports and how it handles #Missing HELP!!!!

    Posting here too as the Fin Reports threads don't get much traffic....
    I have a dilemna.
    I have a expense account 'Office Expense' that has data in it for FY11 Budget of 4K, but for FY12 Budget there is no data so it's #Missing basically.
    How can Fin Reports treat that #Missing in formulas?
    Logic:
    IF FY12 = 0 or #Missing AND FY11 > 0 THEN (FY12 - FY11) * -1
    Result Should be:
    0 - 4000 = -4000 * -1 = +4000
    Is this possible in Fin Reports?

    Here's the equivalent Excel formulas I need converted into Fin Reports:
    To get the value correct plus or minus:
    =IF(AND(A32<0,B32<0),(+A32-B32),-(+A32-B32))
    To calculate pct correctly:
    =IF(AND(C32<0,B32=0),-1,IF(C32=0,0,IF(B32<0,-(+C32/B32),+C32/B32)))

    Hi
    Have you read the FR studio guide as some of your questions are answered in there?
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E17236_01/epm.1112/fr_user_epm.pdf
    Look at the chapter on Functions, in the IfThen section it talks about:
    - IsMissing / IsMiss for coping with #Missing
    - IsError / IsErr for coping with formulae that return #Error, e.g. dividing by 0
    - IsNonNumeric / IsNN for coping with non numeric values

  • Create report on hierarchies using Bex Analyzer

    Hi sir/mam,
    can any one tell me how to create report on hierarchy in BEx Analyzer .
    Basically i have an info object which is kept under Rows.what i did wasi simply dragged from Dimensions and dropped that info Object into Rows in Rows/Column pane.But that info object has hierarchy in Dimensions. when i dragged and dropped i only get that info object not with the Hierarchy.Now i have to create a report on that info object with the same Hierarchy as it is in the dimensions .
    please tell me the steps how to create hierarchy .

    Dolly, welcome to developing in BW.
    A hierarchy is considered a 'Property' of a characteristic. You can just right-click on the characteristic and select the hierarchy from the tab titled "Hierarchy" in the properties section. Select "Activate Hierarchy Display" and choose the hierarchy you want to show. You can also use a variable to allow the user to select from all available hierarchies for that characteristic.
    (Note that this is for BI 7. BW 3.x involves a similar process, but the interface is a bit different.

  • Customize Report with Hierarchies

    Hi all,
    I have created a report using BEx Query 7.0 which contains Cost Center with drilled down Hierarchies (0COSTCENTER) and Cost Element with drill down Hierarchies(0COSTELMT)
    Example ;
    CC1
    CC1.1 --> CE1
    CC1.1 --> CE2
    CC1.2 --> CE3
    CC1.2 --> CE4
    and i want to make it to be like this
    CC1
    CC1.1 --> CE1
    CC1.1 --> CE2
    Object A
    CC1.2 --> CE3
    CC1.2 --> CE4
    Object A
    Object A is another characteristic which not contain cost element and cost center.
    is it possible to do this?
    Thanks
    Edited by: kenmax on Aug 1, 2011 11:32 AM

    If I understand your needs correctly, you want to add another drilldown to your rows. For example:
    Manager 1
    Cost Center A   Cost Element 1A
    Cost Center B   Cost Element 1A
                              Cost Element 2A
    Manager 2
      Cost Center A   Cost Element 1A
    Cost Center B   Cost Element 1A
                              Cost Element 2A
    You should be able to quite simply add the drilldown to the far left of your cost center / cost element hierarchies, and it will display accordingly.
    If you're looking for something else, you may be looking at hard-coded structures or cells, which somewhat limits your options in using Hierarchies.

  • Report Filters & Hierarchies

    Hi Guys,
    We are migrating from BO 5.x to BO Xi R3.
    Some of our existing 5.x reports have report level filters.
    When we select any of the filter values the other filter objects are automatically changes either forward or backward compatible.
    Example table:
    Country      ;;                   State     ;;                     City       ;;                   Address
    India        ;;           Karnataka     ;;                     Bangalore       ;;                   Arthur Road
    USA     ;;                     Florida     ;;                     Jacksonville       ;;                   Arthur Road
    India     ;;                     Karnataka     ;;                     Bangalore       ;;                   G.C Road
    India     ;;                     AP     ;;       Hyderabad    ;;                   M.G Road
    Canada     ;;                     Ontari     ;;                     Toronto        ;;                  Arthur Road
    +Note:+ none of these objects are placed in an order in the BO 5.x universe. They are all mixed and belong to different classes and no custom hierarchy is defined.
    The method filters work in BO 5.x is that the prompt values are filtered both forward and backward when we select a value in any of the prompts
    Scenario 1:
    Select Country as "India". The values in report prompts will be
    Country     ;;State;;     City;;     Address
    India;;     Karnataka;;     Bangalore;;     Arthur Road
    ;;     ;;     ;;     G.C Road
    ;;     AP;;     Hyderabad;;     M.G Road
    Scenario 2:
    Select Country as "USA"
    Country     ;;State;;     City;;     Address
    USA;;     Florida;;     Jacksonville     ;;Arthur Road
    Scenario 3:
    Select Country as "Canada"
    Country;;        State;;     City;;     Address
    Canada     ;;Ontari;;     Toronto;;     Arthur Road
    Scenario 4:
    Now for backward compatibility. Select Address as "Arthur Road"
    Country     ;;State;;     City;;     Address
    India;;     Karnataka;;     Bangalore;;     Arthur Road
    USA;;     Florida;;     Jacksonville     ;;
    Canada;;     Ontari;;     Toronto     ;;
    Scenario 5:
    Select a report filter in the middle like City "Bangalore"
    Country     ;;State;;     City;;     Address
    India;;     Karnataka;;     Bangalore;;     Arthur Road
         ;;     ;;     ;;G.C Road
    Scenario 6:
    Select Address "M.G Road"
    Country     ;;State     ;;City     ;;Address
    India     ;;AP;;     Hyderabad;;     M.G Road
    The report filters when placed or used in the BO XI R3 report after migration does not work the same way as in BO 5.x.
    Not sure what the reason could be.
    Have checked the universe and there are no changed between the BO 5.x and BO R3 universes.
    I cannot go for custom hierarchies as there are reports which use these objects from different classes and there are too many permutations and combinations to consider.
    I would like to know whether the forward compatibility can be achieved without using custom hierarchies and does BO R3 support backward (i.e start from address and get the other values)and intermediate (start with city and drill both forward and backward) compatibility

    You will find a few instances of different behaviour across 5, 6.5 and XIr2/3.
    Another is with the behaviour of what are now called merged dimensions. They now work how I want them to.
    Anyway, back to your problem - as far as I have seen, you have to fully qualify Arthur Road in terms of it's ownership.

  • Ragged Hierarchies

    We have a ragged hierarchy where there may be a case where the data level in a parent-child hierarchy is blank.
    Is there a way to use the parent value instead of the blank value so that all of the levels of a parent child hierarchy in a ragged hierarchy have a value.
    Doing this would result in repeated values for the data levels that are blank.

    How do I set Visual Studio and SSMS (Browse Cube) to use the SSAS Connection String that includes MDX Compatibility=2
    Hi Rpcasey001,
    MDX Compatibility is one of Special-purpose parameters connection string properties when connecting to Analysis Services. It's valid values include 0, 1, 2. 0 and 1 expose placeholder members; 2 does not. If this is empty, 0 is assumed.
    In Visual Studio, I cannot find a place that we can specify this property. In SQL Server Management Studio, we can specify this property when connect to AS instance. (Options>>Additional Connection Parameters)
