Find a string in a file and write a new text after it
hi
i try to search a string in a small text file. after this position I should write a new text (it is not the end of the text, it could be somewhere between).
I tried to solve this with the StrginTokenizer, but it does not work properly, any other ideas how to solve this?

To insert text into the middle of a file you use the process that has been used since the first text editor was invented over 50 years ago:
1. Read the text from the file up to the insert point, and write it to a new file.
2. Write the inserted text to the new file.
3. Read the rest of the text from the file, and write it to the new file.
4. Delete the file.
5. Rename the new file.

I have a file that has been written using PrintWriter
The file is written with only the escape character '\t'
formating and not '\n'
here is 'file.txt':

I now want to read this and write to various components eg. Textfield
textfield.setText(readinText);
The file is written with these commands:
myprint.print(initials);
myprint.print('\t');
myprint.print(surname);
myprint.print('\t');
so basicly initials '\t' surname '\t' card type '\t' etc
How can I read this file and write to the components?
I am thinking of using BufferedReader

StringTokenizer st = new StringTokenizer(s,"\t");
the StringTokenizer separates that automatically for you - every call to st.nextToken() returns a string with one "value", the "\t" is not returned. Let's say you have 4 JTextFields called tf1 to tf4 and you want to fill in the 4 values from the StringTokenizer

tf3.setText(st.nextToken());
tf4.setText(st.nextToken());
how many values are readable by nextToken()-calls are returned by st.getTokenCount() and you can ask if there are more to read by st.hasMoreTokens() which return a boolean.

Can I just say however that as someone who has posted a first comment here and quite clearly never used a forum like this before, your comment unfortunately comes across as very excluding. It makes me feel there are a set of unwritten rules that I should know, and that I don't know them shows that the forum is not for me. The reason I posted here is as follows. I was directed here by the apple support website. The original comment seemed to be the only one I could find which referred to my issue. I am working with a network analyzer. I have arrays made of 5 columns the first consisting of an integer and the next four consisting of complex numbers. I am converting the array into a spreadsheet string and then saving the file using the write characters to a file VI. That seems to work well as when I open the file in Excel all the data is there. However when I try to reverse the process, open file and convert back to array, I loose some of the data. Specifically the imaginary parts of my complex numbers are all going to zero. I have narrowed down the problem to be in the conversion from spreadsheet string to array and vice versa. I
think the problem may be with the 'format' input to the VI. I do not have an adequate resource for this so I am not sure what to put in to accomplish my task. Any takers?Hi Biz
I don't think there is a direct way of converting a complex number to a
string, so when you convert the array to a spreadsheet string, the
numbers would be converted to real data.
However, you could try separating the real and imaginary parts using the
"Numeric: Complex to Re/Im" function, and then store these - either in
separate files or in adjacent columns/rows in the same file. Then, when
you read in the data again, use the "Numeric: Re/Im to Complex" function
to put the two "halves" together.
If you actually want Excel to interpret the numbers as imaginary, then
you'll probably want to create a string for each complex number of the
form "Re + Im*i" (after separating the Re and Im parts), by using
"String:Format into String" with 2 numeric inputs and the format string
"%f+%fi".
Reading the data back into Labview then would require splitting the
string into the 2 pieces by using "Stringcan from String" with 2
numeric outputs (smae precision as original numbers specified by the 2
Default Value inputs) and the same format string "%f+%fi", and then using
the above-mentioned "Numeric: Re/Im to Complex" function. It worked for
me, so if you can't follow what I am describing, send me an email and I
can email you what I did (LV 5.1.1).

Not sure if this would solve your requirment but just in case might be helpful:
1. We can mix up the HTML and HTMLB components in the JSP Page. However, can access only the HTMLB components in the controller. The following link refers to what customizations are offered by the HTMLB framework:

The top portion can search for the location of a string, while the bottom portion is to locate the position of a character. Both can search for a character.
The position of the character within the file is displayed in the indicator(s).

vrkrHmmm. There is nothing special about an XML file to any other file. The data is simply formatted in a certain way. So to write an XML file, it is no different to writing any other form of file in Java (assuming you know the structure of the xml format to write - which you should)
If you don't know how to write files using Java I would suggest using the Java Tutorial found on java.sun.com and do some reading up about I/O since this is fairly fundamental.

Not being able to create TDMS file and write to it
I m new to labview and lately i have been trying to code a RT vi which allows me create a TDMS file and write into it. I have seen a couple of examples on web. and this is what i implemented (refer the snippet i attached) after going through them.
Now the problem is, there is no file being created on my desktop. I dont understand what is wrong. I may be missing some simple part. Please help me to figure it out

usually "RT targets" are NOT capable of accessing your Windows PC desktop as they are computers of their own…
Write to the RT storage and copy the files created there using FTP to your PC!

Prior to today, when I clicked on the "+" a new tab would open. It no longer does that. However, when I open File and click on "New Tab" it opens just fine. I do not have the Ask Toolbar as far as I know (this was mentioned as a problem previously). What can be done to fix this? Thank you.

I can't seem to remove / unload the external swf files e.g when the carousel.swf (portfolio) is displayed and I press the about button the about content is overlapping the carousel (portfolio) . How can I remove / unload an external swf file from the main flash file and load a new swf file, while at the same time removing garbage collection from memory?

Thank you for the helpful advice. I made the changes as you suggested but I am receiving a #1009 error message even though my site is working the way I wan it to work. I would still like to fix the errors so that my site runs and error free. This is the error I am receiving:
"TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference."
I'm sure this is not the best method to unload loaders and I am guessing this is why I am receiving the following error message.

I also tried creating a function to unload the loader but received the same error message and my portfolio swf was not showing at all.
