Find different Values in Rows Based on EMPID

Hello,
I have a one table like below.
EMPID
Name
Location
Grade
Role
100
John
GERMANY
A
Programmer
101
Smith
INDIA
B
Designer
103
Pavla
Malasiya
A
Manager
100
John
GERMANY
B
Senior Programmer
101
Smith
Malasiya
B
Designer
103
Pavla
Malasiya
A+
Manager
Based on EMPID need to check if any column values are changed and put the results in some other table.
In this table for EMPID 100 Grade,Role both values changed after comparing 1 and 4th rows
I want to put the difference in some other table as below.
EMPID Old_Grade      New_Grade  Old_Role           New_Role
100     A                   B                 Programmer      Senior Programmer
EMPID   Old_location      New_Location
101       INDIA                Malasiya
EMPID     Old_Grade      New_Grade
103           A                  A+
Comparing results will be stored in single or multiple tables will be fine based on coulmn name .
Can any body Please help me on this.
Thank You,
Avis.

Hi Avis,
In a relational database, rows have no order. SQL Server is under
no obligation to return the data in the order as you represent. So in your case, you can’t compare the “1st” and “4th” row until there comes a column which can be used as a sort criteria.
To achieve your requirement, there’s no need to create extra tables to contain the difference between updates. You can add one more
DATETIME column which can indicates when the update action happened. See below code.
USE TestDB
IF OBJECT_ID('emps') is NOT NULL
DROP TABLE Emps ;
GO
CREATE TABLE Emps
( EMPID INT,
Name VARCHAR(35),
Location VARCHAR(30),
Grade CHAR(2),
[Role] VARCHAR(30),
Udate DATETIME DEFAULT CURRENT_TIMESTAMP --add one more column
INSERT INTO Emps (EMPID, Name, Location, Grade, Role,Udate)
VALUES
(100, 'John ', 'GERMANY ', 'A ', 'Programmer','2013-12-03 12:00:31'),
(101, 'Smith', 'INDIA ', 'B ', 'Designer','2013-11-18 14:22:31'),
(103, 'Pavla', 'Malasiya', 'A ', 'Manager','2014-1-24 10:15:31'),
(100, 'John ', 'GERMANY ', 'B ', 'Senior Programmer','2014-2-27 15:57:31'),
(101, 'Smith', 'Malasiya', 'B ', 'Designer','2014-5-09 11:02:31'),
(103, 'Pavla', 'Malasiya', 'A+', 'Manager','2014-5-09 17:22:31') ;
;WITH CTE1 AS
SELECT EMPID,Name,Location,Grade,Role,Udate,ROW_NUMBER() OVER(PARTITION BY EMPID ORDER BY Udate DESC) UpdateSeq FROM Emps
CTE2 AS
SELECT EMPID,Name,Location,Grade,Role,Udate,UpdateSeq FROM CTE1 WHERE UpdateSeq=1
SELECT C2.EMPID,C2.Name,C2.Location Curr_Location,ISNULL(C1.Location,C2.Location) Old_Location,C2.Grade Curr_Grade,
ISNULL(C1.Grade,C2.Grade) Old_Grade,C2.Role Curr_Role,ISNULL(C1.Role,C2.Role) Old_Role,C2.Udate Last_Update_Date
FROM CTE2 C2 LEFT JOIN CTE1 C1 ON C2.EMPID=C1.EMPID AND C2.UpdateSeq=C1.UpdateSeq-1;
DROP TABLE Emps;
The result shows the differences between latest 2 updates by EMPID wise.
If you have any question, feel free to let me know.
Best regards,
Eric Zhang

• How to find duplicated values in rows obtained from multiple tables

Hi.
I need to find the duplicates stored in different tables of my database. I have some tables like the following model (I know it could be nonsense, but that's because it's simplified):
table person { id, name, surname }.
table zoo {id, owner, name, city} (zoo.owner -> person.id)
table area {id, zoo, type, name} (area.zoo -> zoo.id).
table dog {id, area, name, colour} (dog.area -> area.id)
table elephant {id, area, name, height} (elephant.area -> area.id)
As ids are autoincremental, it could happen that a person has two zoos with identical areas (meaning, these areas has the same type and name, same dogs (same name and colour) and same elephants (same name and height)). In an example with data:
person
id     name     surname
p1     john     doe
zoo
id     owner     name          city
z1     p1          central     NY
z2     p1          central     NY
area
id     zoo     type     name
a1     z1     open     main
a2     z2     open     main
dog
id     area     name          colour
d1     a1     jaro          brown
d2     a1     chispa     white
d3     a2     jaro          brown
d4     a2     chispa     white
elephant
id     area     name          height
e1     a1     dumbo     5
e2     a1     elphy          4
e3     a2     dumbo     5
e4     a2     elphy          4
That is: John Doe has two zoos in the same city and with the same name. These two zoos, has one open main area each. Each of these areas has two dogs with the same names and colours and two elephants with the same names and heights. So this zoos would be identical. What I want is to delete z2 zoo.
I'd like to find a SQL function which returns me the id of one of these zoos, so it can respond to the question. Has the person called "John Doe" more than one area with the same type, name, dogs and elephants?
Is it possible?

Hi,
Interesting problem!
Two distinct zoos are duplicates of each other if they have the same owner, the same name, the same areas, and the same animals in each of those areas.
It's pretty easy to tell if two zoos are distinct, but have the same owner and name. We could do that with a self-join:
SELECT       z1.*
,       z2.id          AS id_2
FROM       zoo     z1
JOIN       zoo     z2  ON   z1.owner     = z2.owner
AND      z1.name     = z2.name
AND z1.id < z2.idBut how can we tell if two zoos that meet these criteria have the same aminals in the same areas? (It amuses me to call these the "critter criteria".)
One way is to make a list, for each zoo, of all the animals, with all their attributes (that is, the attributes that matter for determining if they are the same), in each area, and then see if the lists for those two zoos is identical. Like this:
WITH     all_animals     AS
SELECT     d.id, d.area
,     d.name          -- || '~' || d.colour || ...
AS attributes
,     'DOG'     AS animal
FROM     dog     d
UNION ALL
SELECT     e.id, e.area
,     e.name          -- || '?`' || e.height || ...
AS attributes
,     'ELEPHANT'     AS animal
FROM     elephant     e
-- UNION ALL   ... cat ... monkey ...
,     got_analytics     AS
SELECT     z.id          AS zoo_id
,     ar.type          -- , ar.name, ...
,     an.animal
,     an.attributes
,     COUNT (*)     OVER ( PARTITION BY  z.id )     AS cnt
,     ROW_NUMBER () OVER ( PARTITION BY  z.id
ORDER BY          ar.type     -- , ar.name, ...
,                an.animal
,                    an.attributes
)                    AS r_num
FROM           zoo          z
LEFT OUTER JOIN area ar ON ar.zoo = z.id
LEFT OUTER JOIN      all_animals     an  ON       an.area     = ar.id
SELECT       z1.*
,       z2.id          AS id_2
FROM       zoo     z1
JOIN       zoo     z2  ON   z1.owner     = z2.owner
AND      z1.name     = z2.name
AND      z1.id          < z2.id
WHERE     NOT EXISTS
SELECT  type     -- , name, ...
,          animal, attributes
,          cnt, r_num
FROM    got_analytics
WHERE   zoo_id     = z1.id
MINUS
SELECT  type     -- , name, ...
,          animal, attributes
,          cnt, r_num
FROM    got_analytics
WHERE   zoo_id     = z2.id
ORDER BY  z1.id
,            z2.id
;The first sub-query, all_animals, combines all the animals from all of the separate species tables. For each one, it makes a delimited list (the attributes column) of the columns that count in determining if 2 animals are the same. Different species may have different attributes and different numbers of attributes. The lists have to be delimited by some sub-string (not necessarily a single character) that can never occur in any of the attributes for that species. For example, dogs may never have '~' in their names (or their colours, if you expand the example to include colour). Elephants might have any character, but never have a '?' followed immediately by a grave accent '`'.
The next sub-query, got_analytics, joins the zoo and area tables to this combined list of animals. The joins are outer joins, so we can detect as duplicates two zoos that have no areas, or two areas that have no animals.
In the main query, I used MINUS to tell if the lists for two given zoos were identical. If x MINUS y produces no results, then every row in x has a matching row in y. To say that x and y are identical, we also have to know that every row in y has a matching row in x. Rather than do another MINUS, I counted the rows (got_analytics.cnt), so that if y has more rows than x, no rows will match when we do the MINUS.
Here's the output I got from your sample data:
`       ID      OWNER NAME             ID_2
1 1 CENTRAL NY 2This shows the distinct ids, and the common attributes, of all distinct pairs of zoos that match. You can join this to the person table, if you want to see details about the owner.
If a query is correct, it will not only find all the results it is supposed to find; it will also not find all the results it is not supposed to find, for all the various reasons. I added some more sample data to test one such reason:
INSERT INTO ZOO (ID, OWNER, NAME) VALUES (91, 1, 'CENTRAL NY');
INSERT INTO AREA (ID, ZOO, TYPE) VALUES (92, 91, 'MAIN');
INSERT INTO DOG (ID, AREA, NAME) VALUES (93, 92, 'JARO');
INSERT INTO DOG (ID, AREA, NAME) VALUES (94, 92, 'CHISPA');Zoo 91 is identical to zoos 1 and 2, except that 91 has no elephants. To thoroughly test this solution, you need to add some more test data, especially zoos that will not be selected for various reasons: for example, two zoos that have all the same animals, but different numbers of areas, or that both have two areas, but the animals are distributed differently between the areas.

• Compare two tables having different number of rows based on 2 columns

Hi,
I am having two tables table a having field1, field2 and table b having fields field1 and field2.
I want those records from table a in which field1 of table a is not matching to field1 of table b and field2 of table b not matching to field2 of table b, but i also want the bifurcation of records as whether field 1 is not matching, field 2 is not matching or both fields 1 & 2 are not matching.
e.g.
table a table b
field1 field2 field1 field2
1 6 12 5
2 5 1 9
13 51 13 51
45 31 99 121
33 45
In this case my output should be
table a
field1 field2 Mtchng_Field
1 6 Field 2 not mtchng
2 5 Field 1 not mtchng
45 31 Feild1 and Field2 both not matching
How would i get my result in the required format.

sql>select * from t1;

• How to get different values in drop down in table rows

Hi
I have an application, which has a drop down in the table. Each row is to have different values in its drop down based on the "characteristic" parameter. For eg. first row has characteristic as color, and the corresponding drop down will contain the color names. Second row has charateristic as weight, and the drop down will carry corresponding weight values.
I am getting the data from the backend as a flat table i.e. charaterisitc - value pair.
I think i will have to use the Drop Down by Index control, but i dont know how exactly to go about it.
Can any one please help in this regard.
Thanks & regards,
Anupreet

Hi Maksim
I am sorry, but i am not able to get you.
This is the piece of code that i wrote for populating the drop down:
IPrivateMaintainDocAttribView.IDropElement dropEle = null;
for(int i = 0;i<size;i++)
dropEle = wdContext.nodeDrop().createDropElement();
dropEle.setDropval(wdContext.nodeCtxNode_DocAttribs().getCtxNode_DocAttribsElementAt(i).getCmpCtx_Value());
wdContext.nodeDrop().addElement(dropEle);
Here, Dropis the sub node to which i am putting the data and thisis linked to the table.
CtxNode_DocAttribs is the model node from where i am picking the data and setting in the subnode.
Thanks & regards,

• Count the number of rows based on the values!!!

Hi all,
What I am using:
I am working with a multidimensional database in Visual Studio 2010 using its Data source view and calculation member and dimension usage.
What I want to do:
I have a fact table that has five columns(leg(s),hand(s), Head and body,overall) that shows the category of how severe the injury is. Let say for the records all columns never have an empty value(no injury is stated with 'No injury' ) . These five columns
are connected with a dimension that has all the available values (Category A-E of injury).The overall has the most severe from the other four columns. I want to create a bar chart with five different measure
values, one for each column, and count the values in those columns.
For example : I have a slicer in the excel and a bar chart and the slicer has all the values of the Category of the injury ( Cat a,Cat B, Cat C, ... Cat E, No injury ) and when i select one of them, lets say
Cat C, the bar chart should update and show how many Cat C each measurement column has.
Example FACT table:
ID LEG HAND HEAD BODY OVERALL
1        No         A           No        No        A
2        No        D            C          C         C
3    E         C            D           A         A
4         E          E           B            C         B
So if i selected C the bar chart will count   (Leg = 0, Hand = 1, Head = 1, body = 2 and Overall = 1).
Any ideas ?
Thanks for the help and the time :)

Hi DBtheoN,
According to your description, you want to create a chart on excel worksheet to count the rows based on the value, right? If in this case, I am afraid this issue is related to Office forum, I am not the expert of Office, you can post the issue on the corresponding
forum.
However, this requirement can be done easily on SQL Server Reporting Services. You can using the expression below to count the rows.
=COUNT(IIF(Fields!LEG.Value=Parameters!TYPE.Value,1,NOTHING))

• How can I select and delete rows based on the value in one column?

I searched through the discussion board, and found a thread on deleting blank rows, but not sure how to modify it to work with my issue.
I have put together a rather complicated spreadsheet for designing control systems, it calculates parts needed based on check boxes selected in a second spreadsheet.
Since not all systems require all parts there are many rows that have a 0 quantity value, I would like to select these rows and delete them once I have gone through the design phase (checking off required features on a separate sheet).
I like the way the other thread I found will gather all the blank rows at the bottom without changing the order of the rows with data in them.
I don't understand exactly how the formula in the other thread works well enough to modify it to look for a certain column.
I hope I made myself clear enough here, to recap, I would like to sort the rows based on a zero value in one (quantity) column, move them (the zero quantity rows) to the bottom of the sheet, and then delete the rows with a zero quantity (I can delete them manually, but would like to automate the sorting part).
Thanks for any help anyone can provide here.
Danny

I apologize but, as far as I know, Numbers wasn't designed by Ian Flemming.
There is no "this column will be auto-destructing after two minutes"
You will have to use your fingers to delete it.
I wish to add a last comment :

• Color report rows based on a value in that row

I would like to Color report rows based on a value in that row.
For examplle with the "EMP" table:
I would like job=MANAGER to be red and job=CLERK to be green etc etc
The other example I found only had the option of one color either the highlight or the default color.
I am looking for a way to do multiple colors.

Hi,
In the row template, you can use #1#, #2#, etc to indicate where a field in the report needs to be output. This does not have to be plain text - ie, you can use it within style tags if you like.
So, take a query like:
SELECT EMPNO,
ENAME,
DEPTNO,
DECODE(DEPTNO, 10, 'green', 20, 'red', 30, 'cyan', 'white') BG_COLOUR
FROM EMPYou get columns 1=empno, 2=ename, 3=deptno and 4=bg_colour. In the row template, you can then do:
Before Rows setting (sets up the table):
<table>
<tr><td>ID</td><td>Name</td><td>Dept</td></tr>After Rows setting (closes the table):
</table>Row Template 1 (used for ALL rows):
<tr style="background-color:#4#;"><td>#1#</td><td>#2#</td><td>#3#</td></tr>Then, for every row, the colour that has been calculated using the DECODE function will be used in the style tag to colour the background for the entire row.
How you determine the colours is up to you. I've used DECODE here, but you could use a field on the DEPT table to hold this and use this in your SQL statement.

• Different values in a list box for each row of the table control...

Dear Experts,
Is it possible to populate different values for each row in a listbox inside a table control ?
Example,
Row 1 in the the table contains A, B & C
Row 2 in the same table contains C, D & E
If yes, How?
yes i am using
call function 'VRM_SET_VALUES'
exporting
id     = i_name
values = i_list.

• Update multiple row for different values

hi,
Please provide me the sql query to update multiple row in a table with different values.
i need to change the old date to new date
we have only 3 column id,name,old date.now i need to update the old date to new date
ID name old date new date
1 A 2012-12-20 12/7/2012
2 B 2012-12-20 12/9/2012
3 c 2012-12-20 12/5/2012
thank you.

Here are two ways to do this. Thanks to ranit for the table creation script, which I adapted.create table test_x
as
select 1 id, 'A' name, to_date('2012-12-20','yyyy-mm-dd') old_date
from dual UNION ALL
select 2 id, 'B' name, to_date('2012-12-20','yyyy-mm-dd') old_date
from dual UNION ALL
SELECT 3 ID, 'C' NAME, TO_DATE('2012-12-20','yyyy-mm-dd') OLD_DATE
from dual;First method using MERGE:MERGE INTO TEST_X O
USING (
select 1 id, to_date('12/7/2012','mm/dd/yyyy') new_date
from dual UNION ALL
select 2 id, to_date('12/9/2012','mm/dd/yyyy') new_date
from dual UNION ALL
SELECT 3 ID, TO_DATE('12/5/2012','mm/dd/yyyy') NEW_DATE
FROM DUAL
) n
ON (O.ID = N.ID)
WHEN MATCHED THEN UPDATE SET OLD_DATE = n.NEW_DATE;Second method using UPDATE:UPDATE TEST_X SET OLD_DATE =
CASE WHEN ID = 1 THEN TO_DATE('12/7/2012','mm/dd/yyyy')
WHEN ID = 2 THEN TO_DATE('12/9/2012','mm/dd/yyyy')
WHEN ID = 3 THEN TO_DATE('12/5/2012','mm/dd/yyyy')
END
where id between 1 and 3;
You probably don't want to use these methods.*
You say the "user" will enter these values. Will he always enter exactly 3 values?
The "user" will enter values into a screen I suppose. What language is the user interface programmed in?

• Different Web Template selection based on query selection values entered

Dear Experts,
We have a very unique requirement in our BI7 system.
There is a web report which comprises of multiple queries and query views embedded in web templates. There are 2 selection parameters F1 and F2 that appear on executing the report.
Our requirement is to display a unique web template to the user based upon his selections. If user enters values for both the fields F1 and F2 then we want to display report output from query views in web template T1.
If user enters value for only field F1 and keeps F2 value blank, then we want to display report output from query views in web template T2.
The problem we are facing is to decide the appropriate place where this type of condition could be coded. We do not think user exit would do the job here.
Please help if you can.
Regards
XX

Hi Pravin,
Thanks for the reply.
Let me please clarify my problem further.
Web Template T1 --> Query Views V1, V2, V3.
(All query views V1, V2, V3 have variables on fields F1 and F2).
Web Template T2 --> Same Query Views V1, V2, V3.
(All query views V1, V2, V3 have variables on fields F1 and F2 but this time variables would be having different values than above).
If user enters values for both fields F1 and F2, then we want to display Template T1 with F1 variable = "value by user" and F2 variable = "value by user".
If user enters value for only field F1, then we want to display Template T2 with F1 variable = "value by user" and F2 variable = "all values for which transaction data exist".
Thus, we want to display a unique web template based on whether the value of F2 is entered by user or not.
Please let me know if you need any further clarification.
Thanks

• Updating multiple rows with different values

Hi!
I have a problem. I need to update more then 1000 rows with different values. How can I do it?
For exsample i have table:
id; color, date,
1 red
2 green
3 white
I need to update date field.
Update table
set date='01.02.03'
where id=1
Update table
set date='01.03.03'
where id=2
Maybe there is way how to update multiple rows at one query?
Sorry for my bad english.
Thanks!

Hi,
You can try this
UPDATE TABLE SET DATE = CASE
WHEN ID = 1 THEN TO_DATE('01-02-03','DD-MM-RR')
WHEN ID = 2 THEN TO_DATE('01-03-03','DD-MM-RR')
ENDcheers

• Combine rows based on column value

I'm trying to combine rows based off of a common value.
Table Data:
Result A
Player_ID   Player_Name  Team_Name  Points Sequence
99999       John Smith    Bulls              50         1
99999       John Smith    Pistons          14         2
What i want in the output
Result B
Player_ID Player_Name Team_Name  Points
99999 John Smith Bulls 64 (50 for Bulls)Here's my main query...
select player_id, player_name, team_name, points
from
SELECT player_id, player_name, team_name, sum(points) sum_points
FROM stats_data
WHERE season_id = 2008
AND points > 0
GROUP BY player_id, player_name, team_name
) t
ORDER BY sum_points DESC, last_name;**The current query gives me the output from Result A
1) Not entirely sure how to combine data based of player_id
2) Once i figure out 1, im sure by adding the ('sum_points' for 'team_name') to the output can be done with a case statement, i think?

Sorry about that Frank.
Using: Oracle 10.2g
i was incorrect about the output of the query
SELECT player_id, sum(points) sum_points
FROM stats_data
WHERE season_id = 2008
AND points > 0
GROUP BY player_id
)Output
Player_ID      Sum_Points
99999              20
55455               6
66489 2 So the subquery is outputing the correct data
The output of the original entire query(that you had posted) is:
Player_ID    Player_Name   Team_Name    Points
99999 John Smith Bulls 16 (8 for Bulls)
55455 Bob Johnson Rockets 6 (3 for Rockets)
66489 Chris Terry Kings 2 (1 Kings)Here's some more raw sample data from the table:
Player_ID    Player_Name   Team_Name    Points     Sequence  Game_Type_ID Team_ID
99999        John Smith      Bulls               12          1                       1                  5
99999        John Smith      Bulls               0            1                      -1                  5
99999        John Smith      Pistons            4           2                       1                 12
99999        John Smith      Pistons            0           2                       -1                12
55455        Bob Johnson    Rockets          4           1                        1                  3
55455        Bob Johnson    Rockets          0           1                       -1                  3
66489        Chris Terry       Kings              2           1                        1                  8
66489 Chris Terry Kings 0 1 -1 8So your code frank is very close, the issue is that:
A) All players have a ('pt value' for 'team name') even if they played on the same team, which can prob. be solved with a case statement, which i tried to do in my last post.
WITH       grouped_data     AS
SELECT player_id, sum(points) sum_points
FROM stats_data
WHERE season_id = 2008
AND points > 0
GROUP BY player_id
SELECT     g.player_id
,     s.player_name
,     s.team_name
(case when sequence = 2 then g.sum_points  <==
||  '('
||  TO_CHAR (s.points)
||  ' for '
||  s.team_name
|| ')'
else to_char (g.sum_points)
END)     AS points
FROM     grouped_data     g
JOIN     stats_data     s     ON g.player_id     = s.player_id
WHERE     s.sequence     in (1,2)     <==
AND     s.season_id     = 2008
AND s.points > 0;the output has two issues, for players who played on more than one team, like Josh Smith the output comes out as
99999 John Smith Pistons 20 (2 for Pistons)
99999 John Smith Bulls 20While the players who played on one team came out correctly. So issue with my edit of your code is:
A) josh smith is output 2, needs to be output once
B)josh smith should say (Josh Smith Bulls 20 (4 for Pistons) not "99999 John Smith Pistons 20 (2 for Pistons)"
c) Issues with "99999 John Smith Pistons 20 (2 for Pistons)" is that it listing the wrong team for him: should be Bulls and listing half of his total with the pistons in the prentices should be 4. --The reason that is because s.points needs to be summed as based off of the data there's two entries
Hope this clears it up, thanks!
