Finder Freeze, wake from sleep... Firewire 800 related?

Question

I occasionally have a finder freeze when trying to access an external Firewire drive after wake from sleep. It ends by having to FORCE reboot with the power button, since the Terminal Shutdown now command doesn't work and relaunch Finder in force quit doesn't work.

And then I get directory errors with an FSCK startup to the effect of:
"Incorrect number of Threaded Records (4, 37425).
What I noticed before the freeze is that trying to access the content list mode of the external firewire produced a blank finder window and a spinning beach ball. I assume it threw off volume bitmaps because they had to be repaired, and I didn't hear the external click to wake up...
Any ideas?

I had the same problem (although I'm pretty sure it was an internal, not Firewire drive)... Have you made any progress with this?
