Finding directory  from Forms 6i

I need to read a file from a specific directory in the C: drive of the users PC. The directory name is \temp. However this directory could be sitting in C:\temp on one PC and C:\test\temp on another PC. The location of directory is going to vary per PC.
IN forms 6i, is it possible to find the location of the \temp directory on the PC from the environment variables?
Thanks

You did not mention the exact Forms version you are using or if you are running client/server or web, so it may be difficult to provide specific answers.
Take a look at this previous thread I posted which explains how you can test to see if a directory exists then based on the results create a directory as needed. The code can be modified to do what you want.
Re: Creating folder on Application server using webutil.
If you are running client/server, you could just do this, but this will not carry forward to web easily.
-- :text_item1 is a text field on a canvas where the value is returned
Tool_Env.Getvar ('TEMP',:text_item1);
Understand that the reference to TEMP in this code is the name of a Windows variable and not necessarily a directory. In other words, the return value for this call will be something like this by default on most machines:
C:\DOCUME~1\<USERNAME>\LOCALS~1\Temp

  • Find directory from directory parameter.

    Hello all,
    My current requirement is to find the directory from the directory parameter.
    Using AL11 we are able to see the logical path name (directory parameter), eg ZINT, and the directory path /your/path/here/int.
    I would expect to find a function module that can perform this, but I am having some difficulty finding it.  I have found many that will give me the file from a file path, but I do not want the file or the entire file path.  My requirement is to find the first bit of the directory.
    If anyone knows of a thread, link, documentation, of function module I can check out to find the solution please let me know.
    Thanks in advance.

    Did you try FM FILE_GET_NAME?
    This is te FM Documentation:
    FU FILE_GET_NAME
    Short Text
    Assign the Physical File Name Using a Logical File Name
    Functionality
    R/3 applications run on various platforms with various file systems. This function module enables you to
    use platform-independent logical file names in your application programs.
    Based on definitions maintained in customizing tables for platform-independent file names, the function
    module converts a logical file name to the corresponding physical file name and path for the hardware platform concerned.
    For this conversion to work for different platforms, the definition of a logical file name must include a logical
    file path, which in turn is converted to different physical file paths, depending on the particular platform.
    The platform-specific file name returned by the function module is composed of the physical file path for the current platform and the physical file name associated with the logical file name. Placeholders in physical file and path names are substituted at runtime by the corresponding current values.
    Example
    logical file name: MONTHLY_SALES_FILE
    physical file name: VALUES<PARAM_1>
    logical path: SALES_DATA_PATH
      physical path (UNIX): /usr/<SYSID>/<FILENAME>
      physical path (Windows): C:\SALES\<FILENAME>
    Example 1
    Get file name for UNIX platform
    (current system: K11)
    CALL                                                                                FUNCTION                                                                                'FILE_GET_NAME'
       EXPORTING
          LOGICAL_FILENAME = 'MONTHLY_SALES_FILE'
       IMPORTING
          FILE_NAME = FILE
          FILE_FORMAT = FORMAT.
    Result:
    FILE = /usr/K11/VALUES
    FORMAT = WK1
    Example 2
    Get file name for UNIX platform, passing a parameter
    (current system: K11)
    CALL                                                                                FUNCTION                                                                                'FILE_GET_NAME'
       EXPORTING
          LOGICAL_FILENAME = 'MONTHLY_SALES_FILE'
          PARAMETER_1 = '_TST'
       IMPORTING
          FILE_NAME = FILE
          FILE_FORMAT = FORMAT.
    Result:
    FILE = /usr/K11/VALUES_TST
    FORMAT = WK1
    Example 3
    Get file name for WINDOWS platform, with file name extension
    CALL                                                                                FUNCTION                                                                                'FILE_GET_NAME'
       EXPORTING
          LOGICAL_FILENAME = 'MONTHLY_SALES_FILE'
          WITH_FILE_EXTENSION = 'X'
       IMPORTING
          FILE_NAME = FILE
          FILE_FORMAT = FORMAT.
    Result:
    FILE = C:\SALES\VALUES.WK1
    FORMAT = WK1
    Notes
    All definitions needed for the platform-independent assignment of file names are maintained client-
    independently with transaction FILE. Logical file names (but not logical file paths) can also be defined
    specifically for the current client with transaction SF01. Transaction SF07 generates a list of current definitions.
    The following concepts are used in the platform-independent assignment of file names:
    Logical file name
    A descriptive name for a file which is associated with these values:
    physical file name
    file format
    logical file path.
    If no logical file path is specified, the function module returns the physical file name only; placeholders are
    substituted by current values.
    Physical file name
    The physical file name may contain placeholders.
    Logical file path
    A descriptive name for a path which is associated with these values:
    syntax groups (groups of operating systems)
    physical file paths.
    Physical file path
    The physical file path is defined for a particular syntax group. It must contain the reserved word <FILENAME> as a placeholder for the file name. It may also contain other placeholders.
    Operating system
    Presentation server and application server can run under different operating systems. The current value for the application server can be obtained from the system field SY-OPSYS, the value for the presentation server by calling function module WS_QUERY.
    Both operating systems must be defined and assigned to a syntax group.
    Syntax group
    Group of operating systems with a common syntax for file and path names (e.g. HP-UX and SINIX).
    Placeholder
    Reserved words, set in angle brackets, which can be included in physical file and path names (e.g.
    <DATE>, <FILENAME>). You can find information on possible reserved words in the online help (F1 help)
    for the fields physical file name and physical file path when maintaining platform-independent file names
    with transaction FILE.
    If the logical path associated with a logical file name does not specify a physical path for the current operating system (syntax group), the path stored in the profile parameter DIR_GLOBAL of the current
    system is used for generating a complete platform-specific file name.

  • How do I find the report server name, and then run paper report from forms?

    How do I find the report server name, and then run paper report from forms?
    I am having a problem running report 9i from forms 9i (see below thread). How do I find out the name of the report server? I checked my C:\ids\reports\conf directory but don't see anything that gives me the name of the reports server. I also don't have a iashome directory.
    Also, I just want to run the paper report (not the web version).
    Thanks.

    Hi,
    please read teh Forms / Reports integration paper in teh Collateral section for Oracle9i Forms at otn.oracle.com/products/forms
    In summary, you have to create an external Reports Service that you can then give a name.

  • Calling reports from forms...i have 10 days left to find a solution please!

    here is the scenario
    i connect to a oracle 9i server from home. i use winxp and 9i Developer to create database applications. when i need to run forms i have to start an OCJ4 Instance, i have a problem though....
    i need to run a report from a form and have tried the following methods:
    DECLARE
         repid REPORT_OBJECT;
         v_rep VARCHAR2(100);
    BEGIN
    repid := find_report_object('rptRequest');
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid, REPORT_EXECUTION_MODE, RUNTIME);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid, REPORT_COMM_MODE, SYNCHRONOUS);
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid, REPORT_DESTYPE, SCREEN);
    v_rep := RUN_REPORT_OBJECT(repid);*/
    END;
    this results in REP-0503 "You did not specify the name of a report"
    i have also tried:
    WEB.SHOW_DOCUMENT('http://localhost:8888/reports/server=repSRV&report=rptRequest.rdf&desformat=pdf&userid=user/pass@ORASERV&paramform=no');
    but this display page cannot be found.
    Where is the report server i should be pointing to?
    thanks for your help

    Michael,
    the default Reports Services is started by a request to the Reports Servlet "rwservlet". To run Reports from Forms I suggest to install the Reports Services as a separate process that can be controlled by a Windows Service
    iDS Home\bin rwserver -install <Reports Services name you want to use>
    This creates a Windows Service for you that starts/stope the Reports Server. In Forms you use set_report_object_property() built-in to set the Repors services name to teh one specifie when installing the Reports Services process. Alternatively you can set the name in teh Report node property palette.
    SET_REPORT_OBJECT_PROPERTY(repid, REPORT_DESTYPE, SCREEN);
    This is not a valid option when running a report on Reports Services. Try destype CACHE and set the desformat to either HTML, HTMLCSS or PDF.
    Read http://otn.oracle.com/products/forms/pdf/frm9isrw9i.pdf and 10 days no longer should be a problem.

  • Open Word Doc from form in web setting not client/server

    Hello, I am new to form. I need to open a word doc (on client PC )from Oracle Form by a button click. I did some research online and looks like Client_Ole2 is the package I need. But when I looked into my Build-in Package (in forms builder), I only see OLE2, TEXT_IO etc. So when I try to declare a variable which is CLIENT_OLE2 like some post suggest, I got error message "identifier CLIENT_OLE2.OBJ_TYPE must be declared".
    So is that means that I need to install/setup WebUtil on my env to get this Client_Ole2 to show up on Form Builder?
    Thanks for help, please advise.

    I found the way to add webutil.pll to attached Libraries.This is the wrong way. Open the webutil.olb in the Forms Builder. Then open your form you want to add the Object Library too. In the Object Libraries node of the Object Navigator - double-click on the WEBUTIL node. This will open the Object Library properties window. Click on and drag the WEBUTIL entry to the Object Groups node of your Form. You will be prompted "Do you want to copy the object or subclass it?" Click on the Subclass button.
    Subclassing is a Forms method that allows you to share a single source of an object/code between multiple Forms. It is Forms' way of implementing inheritance.
    I also copied them to /forms/java directory too.This is not necessary. I recommend you delete the files you copied to the /forms/java directory. Forms will find the libraries if the .../forms directory is listed in your FORMS_PATH environment variable (see the default.env file). The /DevSuiteHome/forms directory should be the first directory listed in the FORMS_PATH variable.
    Remove path?". So I selected Yes. But when I run form, I got FRM_40039: Cannot attach library webutil while opening form ......".The fact that you are getting this error indicates that the /forms directory is NOT part of the FORMS_PATH.
    If I choose No to keep the hard code path, then if I deploy the form to testing server or production server, it will become problem! Right? How to solve this?Double-check to ensure it is listed. The variable entry should look something like:
    FORMS_PATH=D:\DevSuiteHome_1\forms;<any other directories you want to be part of your path seperated by ";">Hope this helps,

  • Connect to Oracle 8i from Forms 6

    I have installed Personal Oracle 8i and developper 6 in a NT. I got the error when tried to connect to the Oracle 8i from Form Builder. "could not resolve service name".
    I did enter the database name.
    Any ideas?

    This is a tnsnames problem...check the entry in tnsnames.ora and make sure
    its
    point to the right DB...there will be a tnsnames.ora under Network and also
    a
    tnsnames in the developer directory ..FORMS will use the tnsnames under
    developer..
    Supply the connect string with and without the domain to see if
    that works
    You can find the domain name in sqlnet.ora file.

  • Calling 6i reports containg oracle graphics in ias 10.1.2.0.2 from forms

    Hi,
    i'm having troubles calling a report containing an oracle graphics chart.
    i'm using ias 10.1.2.0.2 and the corresponding forms tools. and the ias 1.0.2.2.2a isuite server.
    Compiling and running the forms is not a problem and neither is caling ordinary reports. i.e reports not containing any oracle graphics. So i'm confident that my server setup is correct.
    When i'm calling reports containing oracle graphics charts the reports simply hangs.
    Consulting the ias server reports queue i can see that status is 'running the report, now executing pre-form trigger' and that's it. status never changes and the report never finishes.
    In my ias 101202 home i've set the following environment variables:
    ORACLE_GRAPHICS6I_HOME -> E:\oracle\806 which is where my oracle graphics is installed
    GRAPHICS60_PATH -> e:\mastra\rep which is where i store my reports and oracle graphics charts
    I keep both the .rdf file and the compiled .rep in the e:\mastra\rep directory.
    Strange thing is that if i don't include the full path to the oracle graphics component in the report it's not able to find it at runtime. I can see in the reports status screeen it complains about not being able to fond the chart.
    what parameter should i set so i don't have to hard code the path to the graphics chart?
    If i include the full path to the chart it probably finds it because it doesn't complain but now it hangs telling me that it's running the preform trigger. and then nothing happens.
    please help me cause im stuck here.
    thanks for any input.

    Hi Frank,
    Our reports are all called from Forms...using RUN_REPORT_OBJECT in the 10g environment. We have hundreds of reports (6i based) that all work fine when run on the 10g app server. The only ones that fail to complete are those that have Graphics embedded. Yet they work just fine when run Client/Server under 6i. On the 10g app server they just run forever/get hung.
    If I launch Graphic 6i Builder on the 10g App Server box, I can connect to the database without any problems. And Graphics 6i do run just fine from my 10g forms (converted from 6i Forms) on the App Server. NOTE: My Graphics 6i uses the same tnsmanes.ora and sqlnet.ora that my App Server uses (via a TNS_ADMIN setting in the Windows registry)
    Is there something extra special I need to do in the report itself?
    Thanks,
    John

  • How to call Java class from Forms 6i?

    Hi friends,
    I need to call a Java class from my Forms 6i application.
    (It runs under WIndows XP. It's a client/server application and I have only the client and the Form builder installed on my PC)
    I don't know almost anything about Java's world so your help would be very useful for me.
    Could you tell me exactly what i have to do?
    I've read in metalink several Notes, but they supposed that the Java architecture is already installed in the computer.... I only have the default installation of Developer 6i... so I would need to know:
    - How to install/configure the neccesary to execute Java classes without problem
    - How to invoke the .class from Forms 6i.
    Thanks a lot
    Jose.

    And also this one:
    Problem Description
    Installed Forms 6i Rel 2 on a MS Windows machine. When trying to Import the Java
    Classes getting the errors
    PDE-UJI0001 Failed to create the JVM
    Solution Description
    You need to to install JDK 1.2.2 to run the Java Importer. And set the PATH's
    and classpath's correctly.
    Explanation
    1. Download and install the JDK 1.2.2.
    Possibly available at: http://java.sun.com/products/archive/
    2. Assuming the JDK 1.2.2 is installed in c:\jdk1.2.2 directory and the JRE in
    C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2 directory; ORACLE_HOME=C:\Dev6iR2.
    Set the PATH to
    set PATH=c:\jdk1.2.2\bin;C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2\bin;C:\PROGRA~1\JAVASOFT\JRE\1.2\bin\classic;%PATH%
    ( If you are using ias9i then the JDK 1.2.2 comes with the ias installtion ,
    in this case please set the PATH to
    D:\ias9i\Apache\jdk\bin;D:\ias9i\Apache\jdk\jre\bin;D:\ias9i\Apache\jdk\jre\bin\classic;%PATH% )
    3. Set the CLASSPATH to set CLASSPATH=%CLASSPATH%;C:\Dev6iR2\TOOLS\COMMON60\JAVA\IMPORTER.JAR;.
    (If you do not set the CLASSPATH correctly you will get the error
    PDE-UJI002 Unable to find the required java importer classes)
    4. Now run the Forms Builder by using the command.
    C:\Dev6iR2\bin\ifbld60.exe
    Now the Java Importer Should Run fine.

  • DB connection in JavaBean called from Forms 6i

    Hi, after going through a lot of documentation, I still can't find a proper solution for connection issues to the database within a javabean called from Oracle Forms 6i patch 13.
    I developed a javabean which will download (export) a BLOB field from the database to the local file system. Everything works fine and the file gets downloaded to client machine. My only concern is that, to access the data within the bean, I need to connect to the database again from the java code(I believe there is no way to keep the connection between the forms session and the bean). For this I use the jdbc oracle thin driver. This works fine if the database is visible over the internet (for the client to see it), but the only machine I would like to expose is the application server (which is also my web server) running Apache / Jserv with forms listener servlet. The database is visible from the app server.
    If my client machine is X and my app server is Y and my database server is Z, can anyone give me an answer how to connect from X to Z with Z only visible to Y and Y visible to X (www).
    I assume using servlet code which executes on Y might be an option, but how do I implement a servlet to be executed from forms?
    This is the only bottleneck I have before rolling out my system to the client, I will appreciate it if anyone can assist me regarding the above.
    Best Regards,
    Jacques Rossouw

    There is no way to see the Forms Conenction from within the JavaBean as you point out.
    There are a couple of approaches to this problem both of which I've used:
    1) Use Java Code on the App server to read the blob from the database and dump it to a file in a location visible as a virtual directory on the app server (you can use the Java Importer to hook this into Forms).
    Then in your bean have something like this:
    URL src = new URL(sourceURL);
    if (src != null)
    BufferedInputStream in = new BufferedInputStream(src.openStream());
    FileOutputStream out = new FileOutputStream(localFile,false);
    etc.
    2) You can read the Blob in PL/SQL using DBMS_LOB and base64 encode it into a string. then send the string to the bean using Set_custom_property (probably in chunks!) and re-assemble and de-code in client side java.

  • Browser blank when running a form from forms builder ??

    Hi,
    I am trying to run a form from forms builder.
    I have a form , compiles, and when I run the form nothing comes up in my browser.
    my browser is completely blank.
    I am running everything on my local machine.
    the steps I took.
    - downloaded jinit.exe, installed it.
    - started the OC4j
    - restarted my browser
    - then connect to my DB from forms builder - connects fine
    - Run the form
    but nothing is coming up when i run my form.
    I even restarted my machine and still nothing.
    What am I missing ??
    Thanks,

    This is a fairly common question. If you have the Jnit installed and OC4J running, then I would suggest you add the directory where your FMX is located to the FORMS_PATH in the 'DEFAULT.ENV' file located in the %DEVSUITE_HOME%/forms/server directory. The FORMS_PATH variable defines the SEARCH Path for Forms Applications so Forms can find your .FMX and .PLX files.
    You could also modify the URL and specify the Form='your_form_name.fmx', but I prefer adding the directory to the FORMS_PATH so I don't have to add FORMS="" for each different form I'm working on.
    Hope this helps,
    Craig B-)

    Hi ,
    Looks like this is not a Forms side problem or even a Reports Servlet problem
    Some guesses.
    From the exception
    at oracle.reports.engine.EngineImpl.CGetEnv(Native Method)
    at oracle.reports.engine.EngineImpl.getEnvs(EngineImpl.java:453)
    it looks like engine crashing. Did you see the server GUI up and running ? Server might not have started
    Give
    rwserver server=<server_name> in command line.
    The server GUI should come up and show "ready "
    You have multiple Oracle Homes on the same machine. So this could be a PATH problem.
    1) Go to ControlPanel -> System - Advanced - Env variables - System Variables
    Copy the IDS specific PATH to clipboard
    Go to iDS_HOME\bin\ and open a command window. Set only the above PATH here. Start a standalone server
    rwserver server=<server_name>
    and try
    (If this works you could write a batch file later)
    2) For trouble shooting purposes use a different server name to start the standalone server.
    3) Also look in your registry
    HKLM\Software\Oracle\Home<x>\
    Here please see whether you have any "very long" environment variable (say more than 256 chars or 512 chars).
    This is just a guess.
    4) To confirm this is not a Reports servlet problem
    give
    rwclient report=<report_name> + ..... <server=server_name>
    If you get same error, then it is not a servlet problem. It could be that Reports server is crashing
    Thanks
    Ratheesh

  • CALLING A REPORT FROM FORMS (PROBLEM)

    MY PROBLEM IS THE NEXT:
    I CREATED A MASTER-DETAIL REPORT CALLING 'ASUNTOS'WITH THE NEXT QUERY:
    SELECT ABOGADOS.APELLIDO_P,ABOGADOS.APELLIDO_M,ABOGADOS.NOMBRES,
    ASUNTOS.EXP_INT,ASUNTOS.MATERIA,ASUNTOS.GERENCIA,
    ASUNTOS.EMPRESA,ASUNTOS.RECLAMA,ASUNTOS.PESOS,
    ASUNTOS.DOLARES
    FROM ABOGADOS,ASUNTOS
    WHERE ABOGADOS.FICHA = ASUNTOS.F_ABOG
    AND ASUNTOS.F_ABOG = :ABOGADO ;
    -- ABOGADO = PARAMETER.
    THIS REPORT WORKS FINE THE PROBLEM IS WHEN I TRY CALL THIS REPORT FROM FORM I'VE USE A BUTTON(WHEN_BUTTON_PRESSED) WITH THE NEXT CODE:
    DECLARE
    LISTA PARAMLIST := GET_PARAMETER_LIST('ABOG');
    BEGIN
    IF ID_NULL(LISTA) THEN
    LISTA := CREATE_PARAMETER_LIST('ABOG');
    ADD_PARAMETER(LISTA,'DESTYPE',TEXT_PARAMETER,'PRINTER');
    ADD_PARAMETER(LISTA,'DESNAME',TEXT_PARAMETER,'LPT2');
    ADD_PARAMETER(LISTA,'ABOGADO',TEXT_PARAMETER,TO_CHAR(:ASUNTOS.F_ABOG));
    -- ADD_PARAMETER(LISTA,'PARAMFORM',TEXT_PARAMETER,'YES');
    END IF;
    RUN_PRODUCT(REPORTS,'ASUNTOS',SYNCHRONOUS,RUNTIME,FILESYSTEM,LISTA,NULL);
    END;
    BUT THE REPORT NOTHING DISPLAY.
    THERE ARE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CODE IN THE BUTTON

    Roberto,
    Does your report work when it is not called from Forms?
    try the following:
    [TOOLS_HOME]\BIN\RWRUN60 module=ASUNTOS destype=screen userid=<username>/<password>@<tns> ABOGADO=<some_valid_code>
    where TOOLS_HOME is the directory where Reports is installed.
    I can see nothing wrong with your code.
    Maybe some error in the query?
    Also, I would check for the existence of multiple ASUNTOS report definitions. Maybe Forms is calling an older one.
    Hope this helps,
