Firefox and APEX Problems

It seems that there are a lot of APEX users developing with Firefox, so figured I would ask this question here.
When using Firefox, the APEX developer sessions seem to keep overwriting each other, even if I start a completely separate instance of Firefox.
If I log into one workspace, then open another firefox instance and log into a different workspace on the same server, when I try to do anything in the original window I am prompted for my login again.
I have not found any solution to this and its required me to use IE for any additional sessions I have to establish (which is highly annoying).
I have tested this with versions of firefox from 1.0.7 to the latest 2.x version and they all share the same problem. All of these tests were under Windows XP.
Any thoughts or solutions are welcome.
Thanks,
Barney

It seems that cookie problem is real in your
situation and cannot see the ither way to help you.
And, I do not understand your words...so if you could
explain...I'm not native English speaker man...so...Ah, my apologies. Your original post actually made for an excellent joke...the premise of using a distinct browser "brand" for each session. I was carrying this forward to one of the nostalgic greats, the text based Lynx browser.
In actuality, IE does not suffer from the session bug, so I can use IE for as many additional sessions as needed. There is no need to additionally use Mozilla, Opera, et al.
My hope was simply that with so many Firefox users on this site, that someone knew of an actual solution, plugin, hidden setting, etc. that solves this problem.
I can continue to use IE in lieu of a solution for this bug.
Thanks again, and apologies for any confusion caused.

  • Image cache not working with Firefox and apex

    Hi,
    I'd like to cache all my images to save page rendering time and bandwidth because my images are all static and never change.
    I use the John Scott's caching technique Link: [http://jes.blogs.shellprompt.net/2007/05/18/apex-delivering-pages-in-3-seconds-or-less/], in a few words this technique consists of adding a header line "Expires: date in the future" in the http response.
    It works very well in IE, the images are cached and the same image can be accessed several times (within the same session or in different sessions) without issuing an http request to the server each time.
    with Firefox it does not work, the same image is asked again and again to the server (i'm using FF 3.5 and APEX 3.2).
    - Is it a date format problem? no, because when i type about:cache in FF, i can find my image in the cache with an expire date in the future.
    The weird thing here is that the counter is incremented each time u request the image, so FF knows it is in the cache and even if the expire date is in the future, FF asks it again to the server.
    - Is it a FF bug? If u read the http specs or if u google a little, u can come to the conclusion that FF does not follow the standards,
    but... images.google.com for example manages to get its images cached with FF.
    They use an http response header "cache-control: public, max-age=604800".
    I tried the same and all kinds of combinations but without success.
    When i compare my image with the one from google in the FF cache, they both have the same attributes.
    - It's not an apex issue neither because it works with IE, most probably an incompatibility between apex and FF?
    Maybe the use of cookie? or the http request (not the response) containing "cache-control: max-age=0"?
    I've found so far 2 half solutions:
    1) use ETag and modified date, see the Tyler Muth's note Link: [http://tylermuth.wordpress.com/2008/02/04/image-caching-in-plsql-applications/].
    with this technique FF continues to send request each time but the answer is shorter because it's just a "304 not modified" instead of "200 OK" (200 response is bigger as it contains the image).
    it's better than nothing but you still have 1 request + 1 response for nothing.
    Another problem is that you need SYS access to implement this, which is not possible on an hosted server. (note that for images from the file system it is already foreseen by apex 3.1, Tyler's note is for images from the db)
    2) if you preload the image (using myimage=new Image();myimage.src='...';), then there is max 1 request per browser session.
    There are 2 minor issues here:
    - no caching across sessions
    - if u don't want to preload all the images (example a page with lots of thumbnails, when user clicks it show a bigger image, in that case the thumbnails can be preloaded but overkill for the big images), then you need to load the image, wait until the image has loaded before displaying it, it does not slow down the execution, but requires some extra JS.
    I'm not asking anyone to investigate it, i can live with the 2 workarounds,
    but just in case someone encountered the same problem and already fixed it.
    Let me know if u managed to use the John Scott's technique with Firefox. (U can use Firebug to see the http traffic)
    Thx
    Tim

  • Firefox and other problems

    Hey all,
    I'm trying to download files in Firefox and it keeps giving me an error message. So I change
    the preferences to 'ask me where to save' and it doesn't even do that. I just get the error message.
    I also can't print either from Safari or Firefox, I don't think it's the printer because I can print from
    AppleWorks but not anything from the net. I have the printer USB'd to my Powermac g4 dp 1ghz
    w/1.5gb ram. I have two hard drives inside and one USB'd outside. Could that be part of the problem?
    Does the printer driver have to be installed to the hard drive that you are running your internet app from? I have 10.4.11 on each of the drives.
    Thanks
    Ted

    Dimaxum, (sorry it took so long, been busy) here is what the error message says,
    /users/johndoesmith/desktop/Ai1WaP5l.xls.part could not be saved, because you cannot
    change the contents of that folder.
    That confuses me because all I'm doing is selecting to download something to the desktop
    not any of that other stuff that follows /desktop.
    Thanks
    Ted

  • Firefox and Yoono problems

    I was trying to go to Facebook on Yoono's add-on FIrefox.. and some how it would load.. now I can't get to Facebook thru FIrefox.. if I do.. it get stuck on a section that I try to SKip and it freezes up on me or never moves on to the next page.. just stays there.. I love FIrefox and wanna keep using it. I have cleaned out the cache and stuff, so it's not that. I even reset FIrefox back to the bare basics.. NOTHING! I want to be able to get on there and this is making me very frustrated.. what can be done? JK

    I don't have Yoono right now.. but I now CAN'T log into Facebook AT all.. tho have been told there might be security probes on their end. I don't know.. so I won't worry about till at least Monday now.. since I can't do anything at the moment.
    when I did get Facebook, it went to a page where it was asking for a phone number for security reasons on the password.. but when I would click on the 'NOT NOW', the circle would go for a bit then just stay on that page.. DO NOTHING for me. so like I said, will wait till Monday to see what is going on..

    Would not let any browser start,so have uninstalled firefox 6 and can now get on google chrome.

    Please see solution in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensions

    (Windows): For best results you should uninstall '''McAfee Site Advisor''' from Control Panel > add/change programs (Programs and Features). Reboot the system. Then Reinstall from http://www.siteadvisor.com/ and reboot the system. When installing refuse other suggested (crapware) applications.

  • Firefox and Adobe problems after Flash update last night

    OK, this is a non-Apple question, but I haven't found any solution yet.
    Everyone knows that to run the "Adobe Acrobat NPAPI Plug-in, Version 10.1.3" in Firefox, you had to open in 32-bit mode. I did and that plug-in, plus the "Adobe Acrobat Create PDF 1.2" extension worked just fine running Firefox 12. Tonight I got notification that I needed to update Adobe Flash Player. I did (quitting and restarting Firefox after the installation).
    THEN up popped a warning - Firefox suggesting that I disable the NPAPI plug-in and finding out here that Firefox was disabling the plug-in. So I disabled it, restarted, etc. Then I found that the Create PDF plug-in would crash if I tried to save a web page as PDF within Firefox.
    Is there any way to go BACK to the older Flash plug-in? That seems to be at the root of my problem. I can use PDF Browser plug-in in Firefox to display PDF files but what I really need is the Create PDF extension back (it's strangely absent from Safari - at least I've not been able to find it).
    Any help out there?
    Thanks,
    Clinton

    Create PDF or save as PDF?
    Pete
    Pete,
    I can always use the PDF creator "Save as Adobe PDF" that is available from the Print menu and added by Acrobat Pro X, but it does not always save the hyperlinks correctly, etc., where the Adobe Create PDF does a fantastic job... I'd just like to have it back. It does not show up in the Safari extensions/add-ons for some reason.
    Thanks for getting back so quickly!
    Clinton
    Then you may well have to go to the Mozilla Forums on this one. As I say, I steer clear of Firefox because of all it's bulky extentions.
    Good Luck
    Pete

  • I can't get password prompt to display; have already tried resetting Firefox and still problem occurs in Safe Mode.

    The problem is with not with every website, just one. This is a site that previously remembered my username & pw, but I changed the pw and the prompt did not display to update it, so I deleted it from the Firefox/Options/Security/Saved Passwords tab, and now when I type in the new pw, it's still not asking me whether I want to remember the pw (nor does it remember the old pw). I tried Safe Mode and I tried resetting Firefox. Neither one worked.

    You can check if there are entries in the password manager with an empty user name.<br />
    Remove saved Password(s):
    * Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"
    You can also check the exceptions.
    * Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: Exceptions
    You can remove all stored data from a specific domain via "Forget About This Site" in the right-click context menu of an history entry (Show All History or History sidebar) or via the about:permissions page.
    Using "Forget About This Site" will remove everything like bookmarks, cookies, passwords, cache, history, and exceptions from that domain, so be cautious and if you have a password or other data from that domain that you do not want to lose then make a note of those passwords and bookmarks.<br />
    You can't recover from that "forget" unless you have a backup of the affected files.
    It doesn't have any lasting effect, so if you revisit such a 'forgotten' website then data from that website will be saved once again.

  • Firefox AND Safari problems.

    So, every so often Safari will just stop working, it wont go to new sites or anything. And Safari is acting up, it wont display certain things on websites.
    Same with firefox.
    I ran the software update to see if that would do anything but nope!
    I just have to switch from one to the other every time it happens.
    All my other programs conected to the internet work (AIM, iTunes, Mail).
    Im already having enough problems with my Mac.
    Whats next?
    Sheesh!

    Hello! i think you answered your own question.... "I just have to switch from one to the other". I think you have a corrupt user account. Tom

  • Firefox and DPI problems

    I've been attempting to get xorg up and running, and in general it works ok, but in firefox, opera, and epiphany, all of my webpages tend to make the fonts to large. I think from reading other posts that the dpi is wrong...
    However I can't seem to get the fonts to shrink. I've tried setting a DisplaySize, changing the dpi in local.conf, but nothing seems to change it
    See if the menu doesn't look right on this website:
    www.ethilien.net/new_site
    I'll see if I can figure out how to post a screenshot later, but the way it is supposed to look is the menu is supposed to be one block with text inside it and only vertical lines on either side of each link. But right now the box for each link extends beyond the edge of the menu bar.
    I'm also getting weird graphical glitches like the animated gifs for the smilies in this post box are moving back and forth and getting all distorted.
    If anyone has any idea why this is happening, I'd really be grateful

  • Firefox and Font Problems

    So, I upgraded to 10.5 today. I am running firefox 3.0 and after my upgrade, all of my fonts in firefox are messed up. Some of the letters are all squished together and the lines are spaced out really far, like when i do a google search. any ideas on how this can be fixed?

    start by checking your fonts. have you installed any yourself? open Font Book and resolve duplicates and validate all fonts. this is often enough.
    it that doesn't help, follow the troubleshooting steps in [this link|http://www.jklstudios.com/misc/osxfonts.html] (scroll to fonts 911).

  • HT6195 Update without sense. About 6 weeks ago I got heaps of ads by using Safari. The update didn't end this. So I got Firefox and the problem is gone. Apple should guess about to help their customers but the reaction is as always "nothing..."

    You will see my message up there.
    Thank you.

    The Safari 7.0.3 update did not include anything regarding pop ups >  About Safari 7.0.3
    From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Security tab.
    Select:  Block pop-up windows
    If the ads refer to Genieo, then you need to remove malware >  The Safe Mac » Adware Removal Guide : Genieo
    I have block pop-up windows selected and have not had a single pop up.

  • Not PR related, but related for some: Firefox and Flash

    Sorry if this is the wrong forum (mods, please move to the correct forum if you want), but since there are many people around here who publish to the web, I thought I would share with you some problems I encountered with:
    Windows 8 64 Enterprise
    Firefox 18, and
    Adobe Flash Player plug-in.
    This is a terrible combination. After installing Flash Player, Firefox often comes to a halt, not responding anymore and the only solution is a complete removal of the Flash Player. This applies to all 10.x and 11.x versions of the Flash plug-in. In TaskManager or Process Explorer this weird behavior is shown as two instances of the plug-in running.
    The remedy:
    In Explorer, navigate to C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash and open the file 'mms.cfg'.  Add a single line:
    ProtectedMode=0
    to this file and save. Now restart Firefox and your problems have gone.

    Never noticed this behavior myself.

  • Uninstalled firefox and ALL sortcut icons are gone off my laptop..HOW do I get them back?

    I installed firefox and had problems with my laptop running slow so I uninsalled it andnow all icons are gone

    Which icons are gone?
    If you uninstalled Firefox and removed your personal data then you have lost the Firefox Profile Folder with the bookmarks and other personal data.
    *http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
    If you do not have a backup then that data is lost.

  • Choppy/Slow streamed videos on both Firefox and Chrome

    I have a 2010 Macbook Pro that was recently turned off for two weeks while I was on vacation. When I turned it back on and tried to watch videos online (youtube, Netflix, streamed videos) the videos are choppy and slow to load. This was never a problem before turning of the computer for the two weeks. I have tried both Google Chrome and Firefox and the problem happens on both. When viewing the Activity Monitor while attempting to watch the videos the CPU usage is fine for the first 20 seconds or so and then Chrome or Firefox take on 80-90-over 100% of the CPU usage, a majority of the usage is from the system (in red) and the videos become untwatchable. I have uninstalled and reinstalled both browsers and have disbaled all the extensions. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Silverlight for Netflix and have uninstalled all unused versions of Adobe Flash player. There are no problems with video when I watch a DVD. Help! I want to watch videos again

    having same problem since mac os x 10.6 upgrade, but was never issue prior... have tried everything i can think of, new flash players, reinstalling players, reboots of computer and router... to no avail. since this was never an issue for me prior to upgrading to Mac OS X (10.6.8), i believe its the os software.

  • Problem with OracleMaps, FOIs and Apex

    Hiho,
    i'm trying to embed OracleMaps into an Apex application, running on XE. There are several blogs pointing out how to do this, but i still have trouble getting FOI to work.
    After setting up Mapviewer, Apache and a basic Apex App i can see my defined basemap in my app. Zooming and panning works fine.
    But when i try to add a theme based foi i cant see the foi images, but only little red x in the place where the images should be (in Firefox).
    This is my javascript setup:
    <script type="text/javascript">
      function show_map() {
        var baseURL  = "http://"+document.location.host+"/mapviewer";
        var mapCenterLon = 2555000.0;
        var mapCenterLat = 5683000.0;
        var mapZoom      = 1;
        var mpoint = MVSdoGeometry.createPoint(mapCenterLon,mapCenterLat);
        var mapview = new MVMapView(document.getElementById("map"),baseURL);
        var basemap  = new MVBaseMap("DUS.FLUREN");
        mapview.addBaseMapLayer(basemap);
        mapview.setCenter(mpoint);
        mapview.setZoomLevel(mapZoom);
        mapview.setHomeMap(mpoint, 1);
        mapview.addNavigationPanel("WEST");
        // Add a theme-based FOI layer to display customers on the map
        var themebasedfoi = new MVThemeBasedFOI('themebasedfoi1','dus.f011', baseURL);
        themebasedfoi.setMinVisibleZoomLevel(8);
        themebasedfoi.setBringToTopOnMouseOver(true);
        mapview.addThemeBasedFOI(themebasedfoi);
        mapview.display();
    </script>Now when i zoom in until i reach zoomlevel 8, i can see the request for the foi and the server response using FireBug in Firefox:
    {"foiarray":
        {"id":"AAADa5AAEAAADW6AAH","gtype":"7","imgurl":"http://localhost:8888/mapviewer/images/fig/fig2035_10.png?refresh=-3263335750910417913","x":"2554937.017521875","y":"5683130.926478125","width":"18","height":"5"},
        {"id":"AAADa5AAEAAADiDAAG","gtype":"7","imgurl":"http://localhost:8888/mapviewer/images/fig/fig2036_10.png?refresh=1546404312648046166","x":"2554937.017521875","y":"5683130.926478125","width":"18","height":"5"}
      ],"attrnames":null
    }As you can see, the image url is pointing to localhost, which seems wrong to me, since mapviewer and apex are running on a different computer. Shouldn't the image url point to the baseURL?
    How can i resolve this error?
    Thanks for help in advance,
    DIrk

    There is a known bug that might cause the problem that you described.
    You can edit the mapviewer config file and set the foi image URL manually in the <save_images_at> element as follows.
    <save_images_at url="http://myhost:myport/mapviewer/images" />
    Restart mapviewer and see whether it fixes the problem.
