shining wrote:Which pacman version? Is your system up-to-date? Try pacman -Syu , and choose to upgrade pacman first if it asks you.
i tried upgrading pacman, now if i trry to install xorg, pacman tries to remoe initscripts
udev conflicts with initscripts . remove initscripts? [Y/n]
i dont want to remove init scripts, because i know that this will cause arch to fail to boot.
not sure what to do now, this shouldnt happen, i have installed arch before, and always thought pacman was a good package manager, i gues i was wrong lol
any one got any ideas to get this working properly?

  • Pacman update conflicts (solved)

Help! Just finished installing arch on my virtual machine, everything appears to be installed correctly at first appearances. However, when I go to update my system (as it says to on your beginners wiki) it says pacman needs updating first - fair enough. So I say ok to updating this. Everything downloads, but then I get four conflicting file error messages ( hope that is right) and the update fails. I've tried renaming the files, however I still get the same error, I tried to force one file but that was an invalid option. Next I did -Qo on each to see if the files were owned, but they wern't. I then finally (sorry I know this isn't good) tried to force a full system update using Syyuf, but still got the same errors. I've run out of ideas and I'm getting desperate. I was desperately searching the web and this forum for help but it seems I had already tried everything that has been suggested. Please help my step dad is stumped as well and he is much more capable of using linux by command line than me so I don't think its me being totally stupid. I don't want to have to go back to kubuntu so soon. Thanks for any help you can give, anything would be most appreciated

    0) As Pres and many other users here wrote many, many times: don't use --force switch! There are very, very rare situations when it is recommended to use it but you'll be explicitly instructed how to do it. Tip you should put into your head: if pacman -Syu don't go smoothly and you don't know what's going on, first thing to do is go to archlinux.org and read news (this is very important!) and check forums. Don't be hasty and never use --force switch just to feel "pro". Also always pay attention to pacman's output, look for warnings. Learn about and take care of .pacnew files. Don't worry, in general upgrades go smoothly and you don't need to do anything or very little.
    1) If there are no obstacles netinstall is recommended installation, especially when core image is almost one year old, this is rolling release - a lot has happened since then. Because of many major changes lately (package signing, /lib symlinking, filesystem upgrade, grub-legacy no longer supported... ) I suggest to try testing ISO's. The 2012.07.15 is going to be next official stable installation media so don't be afraid of "testing" name. If you don't won't to repeat installation, Allan wrote nice blog entry: http://allanmcrae.com/2012/07/updating- … e-install/
    2) Good move with VM, try and learn until you feel comfortable with most of system maintenance before installation on bare metal. Don't be intimidated with beginnings. Arch wiki is your friend.
    3) Welcome on forum

If you don't understand what happens to your installation, DON'T DO THAT AGAIN.
You should use '--force' only if you are sure nothing bad will result from that.
In this case, you are happy that pacman refuses to force the installation of the lib32 packages in place of the already installed x86_64 libraries.
The lib32 libraries should be installed in '/usr/lib32' not '/usr/lib'.
What is the result of 'ls -l /usr/lib32' ?
There is something not good here with your system...

    Thanks

I believe it is strongly advised not to use --force, especially for a system-wide upgrade. But it could be ok to use it only for the specific package that is causing this problem.
In this case you could use pacman -Qo to check if one of those files belong to a package or not.
If you indeed installed those from a third party source, it may be cleaner to delete the whole directorie(s) you copied manually instead of using --force on the new package, so that there are no leftover files.

  • [SOLVED]Pacman systemd missing file

Everytime when I run pacman I get this error:
error: could not open file /var/lib/pacman/local/systemd-217-8/desc: No such file or directory
I think i messed up something when upgrading system.
Can you help me to solve this issue?
    Thanks

    Just reinstall systemd:
    pacman -S systemd
select yes if it prompts due to it already being installed.
You might also want to run `pacman -Qk` to see if any other packages have been damaged.
EDIT: I just did some silly trial and error and deleted that file from my system (probably would have been smarter to move/rename it).  Reinstalling systemd failed due to a conflicting file error as all the files for the package are there, but the pacman database doesn't realize they belong to that package.  In this case I used --force with the single specific package:
    pacman -S --force systemd
Note that this use of --force is an apparent necessity to fix this specific problem.  This does not support using it when uncertain why something fails - I knew why it was failing.

  • On A Budget - Options for Using a File Server.

Hi - I have this relatively old 2008R2 file server (8GB memory and 25TB disk) I'd like to use as file storage for a SQL Server VM.  The network is a 1GB switched configuration.  The VM resides on relatively new hardware (Server 2012, SAS) but doesn't
have a lot of disk.  I'd like to make a bunch of the file server space available for SQL Server Data (2008R2) - its a small network (10 users) that we want to load a bunch of glob data indexed by a few keywords as reference.  Kind of like a
GIS database.  My first thought is to create fixed vhdx file on the file server via Hyper-V manager, but this takes days to initialize for the size I'm thinking of (10TB).  I created an expanding disk and it was pretty quick to create.  I copied
a 4GB file over the net to the mounted (from the Hyper-V Host) vhdx file and it went pretty fast.  I thought about using the iSCSI trick to attach it to the SQL VM (turning the file server into a SAN sort of?), but I'm wondering if this is overkill.
I'm just looking for a few suggestions.  There is a lot of stuff out there, some of it conflicting, about storage configuration.
    Thanks

    Yes, upgrading....
I need to emphasize the budget thing.  I will look into the iSCSI option.  The VM is Server 2012.
We might be able to convert the 2008 server to Windows 8.  It doesn't really do anything besides file shares and security is not a concern as we are not connected.  Is that an option?  Win8 supports SMB 3 I understand.
Yes you can do that. But... Older desktop versions of Windows were limited on amount of TCP connections they could handle obviously affecting usability and performance as a server. Not sure what's accurate for Windows 8 as MSFT has been changing this policy
back and forth all the time )) Check within MSFT licensing specialists before you do that.
P.S. I'd spawn FreeBSD or openSUSE with a Samba instead of a desktop version of Windows OS being used as a file server. IMHO.

Then I misread the problem: Pacman apparently wanted to update your packages so that one of the updated packages would have had libglapi as a dependency while you also had mesa-full updated.
I always thought pacman could be a bit more helpful in these cases with showing why it wants to install the respective package i.e. what depends on them so you can resolve the conflict more easily.
In case somebody else is reading this: It would have probably worked this way:
    pacman -Rdd mesa-full
    pacman -Su
    pacman -S mesa-full # resolve conflict manually

  • Using a variable in "arrayTerminatedBy" clause while using a file adapter

    Hi All,
How can read a file of sample shown below using a file adapter.
    ABC|20081010|
    2008|xxxxxxx|
    2007|yyyy|
    2009|zzzzzzz|
    3|20081010|
    first line is the header
    last line is footer
    middle portion is the body
'3' in the footer is the total no of record count in the body
I am able to read the header and body.
The problem i am facing is; when it is reading the footer it is treating the footer as a record in the body and is throwing an error stating - expected the format as "yyyy"
I have to use "arrayTerminatedBy" to indicate the end of the body. But that terminating field is a varying field. How can i use this variable field in the "arrayTerminatedBy" clause.
Can any one help in reading this file
    Thanks in advance

See if this helps, I haven't tested it but it will give you a hint in how to achieve it. As you can see I use the startsWith command. I'm not sure how to handle your detail as it seems to start with different elements every time.
    cheers

  • Why am I being told that a JPEG file that I made changes to in Photoshop 6 (CS6) can't be saved?  The message I get says that either the file is locked and I don't have permission to execute this or another program is using this file.

i recently purchased a 21.5 iMac with Yosemite (10.10.1) and was disappointed to discover that my CS6 programs are not functioning correctly.  I am unable to use the "Save As" command  when making changes to a JPEG file in Photoshop.  The message I get says that either another program is using the file or it is locked and I don't have permission to execute that command.  I'm experiencing a similar problem in Bridge when trying to move an unwanted file to the Trash.  Again, I get a message telling me that i don't have permission to do this.  Lastly, I'm unable to open any Camera Raw files.  Any suggestions?  I had no problems with the Mavericks OS on my old iMac and although it's much slower, I'm tempted to go back to using my old iMac.  At this point, I feel as if I've just wasted $2300+ (tax included).

Back up all data before proceeding.
This procedure will unlock all your user files (not system files) and reset their ownership, permissions, and access controls to the default. If you've intentionally set special values for those attributes on any of your files, they will be reverted. In that case, either stop here, or be prepared to recreate the settings if necessary. Do so only after verifying that those settings didn't cause the problem. If none of this is meaningful to you, you don't need to worry about it, but you do need to follow the instructions below.
    Step 1
If you have more than one user, and the one in question is not an administrator, then go to Step 2.
Triple-click anywhere in the following line on this page to select it:
    sudo find ~ $TMPDIR.. -exec chflags -h nouchg,nouappnd,noschg,nosappnd {} + -exec chown -h $UID {} + -exec chmod +rw {} + -exec chmod -h -N {} + -type d -exec chmod -h +x {} + 2>&-
Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Paste into the Terminal window by pressing command-V. I've tested these instructions only with the Safari web browser. If you use another browser, you may have to press the return key after pasting.
You'll be prompted for your login password, which won't be displayed when you type it. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before you can run the command. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
The command may take several minutes to run, depending on how many files you have. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign ($) to appear, then quit Terminal.
    Step 2 (optional)
Take this step only if you have trouble with Step 1, if you prefer not to take it, or if it doesn't solve the problem.
Start up in Recovery mode. When the OS X Utilities screen appears, select
              Utilities ▹ Terminal
from the menu bar. A Terminal window will open. In that window, type this:
    resetp
Press the tab key. The partial command you typed will automatically be completed to this:
    resetpassword
Press return. A Reset Password window will open. You’re not going to reset a password.
Select your startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name) if not already selected.
Select your username from the menu labeled Select the user account if not already selected.
Under Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs, click the Reset button.
    Select
               ▹ Restart
    from the menu bar.

  • How to use .mod files from a JVC camcorder?

    Hi All,
I'm trying to find the proper workflow for using .mod files from a JVC Everio model camcorder. I was able to transfer the files onto my system by simply using the included usb cable from the unit. It simply mounted the camera's flash card on my desktop and I was able to drag all of the files from it.
As others have posted, the .mod files are not accessible using the Import function in FCP. I am able to open them with MPEGStreamClip as other have suggested. My question is, how should the files be converted to use with FCP and/or DVDSP? In MPEGStreamclip the file shows the video stream as: 224 MPEG-2, 720 × 480, 16:9, 29.97 fps, 8.40 Mbps, upper field first. I tried a few of the demux functions. The straight demux to .m2v & .ac3 yields a file that opens in QT, but it shows up as a 640x480 file and is noticably squeezed. Using the demux unscaled yields a file that opens in QT as a 720x480 file and looks somewhat better. And using the demux to headed yields as file that opens in QT as 720x404 and presumably is the correct 16:9 ratio.
Trying to use those same files in DVDSP didn't get me very far. If I create a new HD project in DVDSP I can import the straight demuxed file and the headed file. The unscaled file won't import. If I add the imported files to tracks the straight demuxed one will play in the simulator but the headed one simply shows a green screen.
I'm hoping that since MPEGStreamclip can play the files, its just a question of figuring out the proper export/conversion settings. My end goal is to produce a dvd of the footage (not exactly sure if I should be using an HD project or a SD project set to letterbox). I also need to produce a web-ready version of the footage. I haven't tried this yet but I'm assuming that one of the QT exports from MPEGStreamclip will get this done correctly.
Hopefully someone has a workable solution for these files.
    Thanks,
    Chris

    Hi all,
I looked further on this forum and found others that had the same problem. One suggested connecting the cam corder first, then start iMovie, then wait for a few minutes. I did this and it worked!!!!!
    Problem solved.
    Thanks.

Nothing happens because in the actionPerformed() method you are creating a new version of GUIdirectory. You just want to execute the dbTest() method of the current instance of GUIdirectory.
    The code should be:
    public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent evt)
    //GUIdirectory gui = new GUIdirectory();
    //gui.dbTest();
    dbTest();

  • How to publish to an FTB server in iWeb 2 using the File ➙ Publish to Folder option??

I was just given the following advice regarding publishing to an FTP other than MobileMe.
Web 08 does not have that feature (drop down menu to publish from "site" icon).  You will need to upgrade to iWeb 3 in iLife 11 in order to get that feature.  You can get iLife 11 at the online Apple Store while supplies last since iWeb (and iDVD) have been discontinued by Apple
To pubish to an FTB server in iWeb 2 use the File ➙ Publish to Folder menu option and then use a 3rd party FTP client like Cyberduck to upload the site files.
Follon-on question, can anyone provide more details on how to do exactly what was suggested?  I toyed with it and can only get it to publish to a folder on my desktop, but not to an external FTP.  (I have already purchased a web-host package, just need to publish to it!)

Okay.  When you publish your site from iWeb to a local folder what you will get is one site folder - this site folder will have the same name as you gave your site in iWeb and one separate index.html file.
Your site folder contains an index.html file as well as the separate index.html file.  You NEED both.
What you need to do is firstly using Cyberduck or whatever, upload your site folder to your host into whatever folder you need to upload to on the server - could be 'public_html', 'htdocs' or whatever - this is your root folder.
You then need to upload your separate index.html file to your server too, but this index file needs to sit outside your site folder because it needs to point in towards the index.html file that is in your site folder - this is the first page of your site.
You don't delete or duplicate any index files - iWeb produces the two index files that you need when you publish to a local folder - one index file in the site folder itself and one separate index file that sits outside the site folder and points into the first page of your site.
Also, remember to call the first page of your site something like Home or Welcome, but DO NOT name it index.
By the looks of things here you have not uploaded your index files correctly.
What I would suggest that you do is start over - so open Cyberduck and connect to your server and go and delete your site folder and your other index file if it is still there.
Go back to iWeb and publish to a local folder again and notice that you have both your site folder and separate index.html file.
Now go and open Cyberduck again and connect to your server and note where you need to upload your files to.
Now go and upload your Site Folder to your server and once this has finished go back and upload your separate index.html file, but this needs to sit outside your site folder.  If you do this, then your site should display okay - as long as your other index file is pointing into to the first page of your site it should display correctly.

  • Object reference not set to an instance of an object error when generating a schema using flat file schema wizard.

I have a csv file that I need to generate a schema for. I am trying to generate a schema using flat file schema wizard but I keep getting "Object reference not set to an instance of an object." error when I am clicking on the Next button after
specifying properties of the child elements on the wizard. At the end I get schema file generated but it contains an empty root record with no child elements.
I thought may be this is because I didn't have my project checked out from the Visual SourceSafe db first but I tried again with the project checked out and got the same error.
I also tried creating a brand new project and generating a schema for it but got the same error.
I am not sure what is causing Null Reference exception to be thrown and there is nothing in the Windows event log that would tell me more about the problem.
I am using Visual Studio 2008 for my BizTalk development.
I would appreciate if some has any insides on this issue.

    Hi,
To test your environment, create a new BizTalk project outside of source control.
Create a simple csv file on the file system.
    Name,City,State
    Bob,New York,NY
Use the Flat file schema Wizard to create the flat file schema from your simple csv instance.
    Validate the schema.
Test the schema using your csv instance.
This will help you determine if everything is ok with you environment.
    Thanks,
    William
