Flash builder 4 installation somehow broke my flex builder 3 debuggin/running/profiling launch.

After installing flash builder 4 neither it nor flex builder 3 has been able to launch swf:s from flex. After hitting run or debug flex gives a prompt saying "Flash Player not Found. Flex builder cannot locate the required version of Flash Player. You might need to install Flash Player 9 or reinstall Flex Builder. Do you want to try to run your application with the current version?". The popup itself happened before installing flash builder 4. But normally I would just hit yes and it would use whatever flashplayer is default.
Now if I click yes it launches command prompt with a path to flex builder 3 installation folder. When running from flash builder 4, same happens except the path is the installation folder for flash builder 4. Flex then starts waiting for connection from debugger and after a while it prompts a timeout message. The command prompts title is ...\workspace\project\bin-debug\filename.swf.
When opening the swf files directly from windows they open fine.
I used the uninstaller software for flash player and then fetched both fp9&10 and reinstalled them. Which didn't help. When launching to browser everything works just fine, the problem occurs only when launching to standalone player. I tried to check registry settings if there would be something wrong, but all the paths for flashplayers seem to be ok.
Is there any other hope to fix this than reinstalling flex builder 3 & flash builder 4 from scratch?

You need content debugger FP installed
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html download it from there and install and you should see the problem go away
Download the Windows Flash Player 10 ActiveX control content debugger (for IE) (EXE, 2.03 MB)

  • If I install Flash Builder 4 will it override Flex Builder 3?

I am using Flex Builder 3, I want to install Flash Builder 4 on the same machine just to experiment with but remain using FB3 for my real projects. Is that possible or will installing FB4 override FB3?

  • Flash builder 4 plugin broke inside coldfusion builder

I installed flash builder 4   into coldfusion builder  as a plugin but I can;t see anyway to run or debug flex applications in the flex perspective.

    Hi,
Not sure if it will help with this particular problem, but if you haven't seen it already, there's some info here about how to work around a similar compatibility issues with FB4 and CFB sharing the same copy of eclipse:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/2828427#2828427
I realize that the thread above is about installing CFB into Flash Builder, and that's the opposite from how you installed it. There are at least 4 different ways to install the two products:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/coldfusion/articles/cfbuilder_flashbuilder4_workflow_02.html
I'm not clear on which combination works most reliably though (CFB into FB4, FB4 into CFB, or separate installs), but will ask around internally to see if we have some more explicit recommendations to offer.

  • Any official Update for Flex Builder 3 to use Flash Player 10 Api?

Any official Update for Flex Builder 3 to use Flash Player 10
    Api?
How can i use flash player's 10 features in flex builder 3?
    Thanks

I was able to solve my problem by modifying the solution
    offered in
    this
    technote.
The technote identifies a permissions problem with the
components directory of non-Safari browsers. In my case the
permissions problem appears to have been in the main
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins directory. What tipped me off to the
solution was the fact that after manually removing Flash
    Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt from the /Library/Internet
Plug-Ins directory, subsequent attempts to install Flash Player
resulted in the "Creating file: 1008:5, -5000 Access Denied Error"
I remembered seeing in the technote. Before removing these files,
the installer would just fail silently, perhaps because it saw
files it was going to install already living in the right place,
and furthermore had no permissions to alter the directory.
In any case, by making the permissions change recommended in
the technote to the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins directory, I was
able to install the plug-in, which gave me back access to Flash
    content in all my browsers.
Hope this is helpful to someone else...

  • Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 Mac OS X Installer Error

I am trying to install Flex Builder 3 Beta 3 on an Intel Mac
running Mac OS X 10.4.11. When I open the installer, the first
screen (which allows you to select languages) works properly. The
second screen, however, does not load properly - I only see a black
background and white text that says "InstallAnywhere by
Macrovision", a thin white line by this, and a grayed-out "N".
There are no buttons or other text on this page.
Does anyone have this same problem? If so, are there any
fixes? I initially had this problem with Mac OS X 10.4.10.
Upgrading to Mac OS X 10.4.11 did not fix the error. A similar
error also occurs when I try to install the demo version of Flex
    Builder 2.
    Thanks!

Thanks for sending the error log - that provides some good
clues. First of all, I want to ask you about the path listed as
/Users/admin/. Was admin a default user already on your machine, or
did you create and log in as a user named admin?
The installer is failing because it cannot create a folder
under the path /Users/admin/Documents/, whereas usually you should
have full access to that folder if the user named admin has normal
    Admin rights.
Here are some suggestions for how you can remedy that:
    1) run Apple's Disk Utility, run its Repair Permissions
option, and see if it repairs permissions on that Documents folder
    2) manually delete any existing folder named
    /Users/admin/Documents/Flex Builder 3/
    3) try installing Flex Builder 3 again, after cleaning things
up in steps 1 and 2.
Failing that, try creating a new user on that machine, with
Admin rights, and then see if you can install Flex Builder 3 into
    that user account.
Let me know how it goes,

  • Flash Player 10 and Flex Builder 2

I need to have flash player 10 installed on my local machine for my time tracking software.  With that I am no longer able to run my flex builder in debug mode.  I am no longer able to see any of my trace() statements executed.
Is there any way to have Flex Bulder 2 run with Flash Player 10 in debug mode?

Try targetting the flash player 10 in your project setting.

  • Flex builder with AS3 project

    Hi,
I am developing a Flash game using as3, I chose flex Builder with an AS3 project. Now I am thinking that if selecting the project to be a flex project instead of as3 project I would have a lot of flex functionality like a swf loader, preloaders and the popup manager etc. The graphic components would obviously have been made in flash and used through the swc (avoiding the heavy mxml components).
Need to know what other developers think of this approach.

    You must include in library:
    ${FRAMEWORKS}/locale/{locale}

  • Does Flex Builder scale?

Has anyone had success building large ActionScript projects
in Flex Builder? Say 20,000 lines of ActionScript. Or is that not
the way Flex is typically meant to be used? Thanks.

    I haven't tried Flex 3, but I noticed the AIR beta wouldn't
install on Win2K. The Apollo Alpha did. I think it was the new
installer for the beta that gave the problem.

  • Console not working flex builder 2 and 3

even since i installed flex builder 2, i have not been able
to get get output in the console window. i've posted about this
before but received no reply. then i just installed FB3 and i have
the same issue. the only way to get my trace statements in the
console window is to double click, or open the file-debug.swf. i am
    running windows vista.
in flex builder 2 i get this error warning every time i try
    to compile a program:
    "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\NPSWF32.dll
Flex Builder cannot locate the required version of the Flash
Player. You may need to install Flash Player 9.0 or reinstall Flex
Builder. Do you want to try to run your application with the
    current version?"
anybody know what that is about? it seems totally ridiculous
that a program designed to create swf's doesn't even know what
version of flash player i have installed.
flex builder defaults with IE, not only does that suck, but
it tells me i don't have the current flash player... i know that's
not the case because i've installed it, along with activeX around
ten times now. maybe it's cumulative, should install it 20 times???
please let me know if you are having these issues as well, or
if you can help me fix it!
    thanks
    k

I think your flash debug version isn't installed correctly.
Try uninstalling the flash player and then reinstalling the DEBUG
    version of the flash player.

  • Flex Builder 3 Error: Unable to load SWC

    Hi,
I am trying to use the YahooMaps component (YahooMaps.swc) in
my application. I have included it in the build path of my
    application.
    Steps followed:
    1. Right-click on the project and choose Properties or open
the Project menu and choose Properties.
    2. In the project properties dialog, choose Flex Build Path.
    3. Select the Library path tab, and press the Add SWC...
    button.
    4. Selected the YahooMap.swc
I still get "Unable to load SWC: YahooMap.swc". It is an AS
3.0 component. Any help will be appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sumit

    Hi Peter,
    Thank you for your reply.
I have followed the documentation on the site you provided.
All I have done so far is:
    1. Create a new flex project in Flex Builder 3
    2. Once the project is created, I try to add the YahooMap.swc
    to my Flex build path.
    3. Once I add the YahooMap.swc, it fails with the error
"Unable to load YahooMap.swc" in Flex Builder 3.
    4. FB3 does not recognize YahooMap when I try to import it in
    AS3.
    import com.yahoo.maps.api.YahooMap;
I am not sure what I am doing wrong. Does it have to do
something with the version Y! has used to build the YahooMap.swc
    and Flex Builder 3?
    Thanks
    Sumit

    Any key pointers?
    thanks,
    Ankit

The only thing I can think of that could have caused this was
    this line of code:
    <mx:Button label=">" />
Would that do it? If so, shouldn't Flex Builder simply show
me a warning instead making the file completely
    inaccessible?

  • Weird Positioning for Skinned Panel in Flex Builder 3

In the previous versions of the Flex Builder 3, even for the
Flex Builder 3 Beta Milestone 4, my custom skinned Panel component
worked fine. So I have an image skin and then I put into Flex
Builder, set the 9 slice settings, did some adjustments to the
headerHeight. And when I add a child component to the Panel
component, it will automatically be placed beneath the Panel's
title (like a VBox layout), position it inside the panel.
But now, compiling with the same files and css in the new
Flex Builder 3 final release, the Panel does not position the
children components correctly anymore. The children are still
positioned in a VBox layout but the first child started from the
point 0,0 of the Panel. So, the first child is overlapping the
Panel's title and all the children seems to go out of the Panel a
bit. This isn't what it used to be(that's to automatically position
them in the content are of the Panel component or at least within
    the 9 slice middle area).
A Panel that isn't skinned at all works fine.
Is there anything I have to change or do to solve this?
    Thanks.

Looks like what I am having is something close to that except
that my problem is related to the borderSkin and not the
borderStyle. But I have seen some of the comments talking about the
    borderSkin problem too.
What I have done now is I use the Flex 3 public release but
copied the sdk from the previous beta version and compile with that
    sdk.
It kind of resolves that panel bug problem(since I am just
using the old version) but I am sure I will be missing out any new
features that the new Flex 3 public release has.

  • Errors when installing Flex Builder 3

I've just installed Flex Builder on my machine but
unfortunately things did not go right.
FX does not work, when I try to start a project an error
message comes on. I click on details, and the only detail I get is
    "error".
I tried reinstalling but it did no good. Very frustrating.
Any hints as to what to do to try it again? Would a corrupted
file cause this kind of problem??
    Thank you for any ideas.
    Marcos

    Thanks Levancho,
Well, here is my system info:
    Pentium Dual 2 GHz
    2 GB RAM
    Win XP SP2
    Java 6 Update 11 Standard (build 1.6.0_11-b03)
Flex Builder 3 Educational (build 3.0.2.214193)
Eclipse version: I have no idea :(
    Thanks!

  • Building Flex application with Flex Builder in a Remote Server - Cloud Computing

    Hey Guys
I have a query or its confusion probably
I was just thinking if this kind of solution is existing or possible with say cloud computing or anything else?
This is what we all probably do for building our flex application?
    1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code
    2. Developer check out the code in their system locally by some Configuration tool like Perforce, CVS etc
    3. Developer Install Flex  Builder IDE locally and open the IDE and then create.build locally and then on testing check in the code in repository
All this is fine but we have some problem here
    a. We have to get all the source code checked out/downloaded in some local machine
    b. We have to install Flex Builder in each every developer machine with license.
A possible modification in the above can be as follows
    1. Don't download/check out the source code locally in each machine
    2. Create a mapped network drive of the Remote Repository and then work directly with the mapped network drive
    3. Install Flex Builder  locally
    4. Start Flex Builder create a Flex Project with source code in the mapped network drive
But this has some potential problem as now the building of the flex application directly work with the mapped network drive. This is very slow especially when we Keep the "Build Automatically" Check box to true
My question is that can we have a solution like this ?
    1. There is Remote Server hosting our source code
    2. There is another 2nd Remote Server which support workspace for each user
    3. Flex Builder installed in the 2nd Remote Server
    4. Each Developer connects to the 2nd Remote Server log in to their workspace
    5. Each developer check out code by connecting to 1st Remote Server. This code which is checked out now goes in their workspace in the 2nd Remote Server
    6. Start Flex Builder instance which is running in the 2nd Remote Server
    5. Each developer open source code modifies, build application in their workspace and check
I think this is something that I heard cloud computing can do ? Do anyone have any idea whether this kind of environment is possible in Flex or can anyone suggest something which is almost close to this ?
    Regards
    Biswamit

    Hi
The concept of cloud computing is not even very clear to me
I think this is what I understood about it ...........from this link http://communication.howstuffworks.com/cloud-computing.htm
    It says
"Instead of installing a suite of software for each computer, you'd only have to load one application. That application would allow workers to log into a Web-based service which hosts all the programs the user would need for his or her job. Remote machines owned by another company would run everything from e-mail to word processing to complex data analysis programs. It's called cloud computing, and it could change the entire computer industry"
"There's a good chance you've already used some form of cloud computing. If you have an e-mail account with a Web-based e-mail service like Hotmail, Yahoo! Mail or Gmail, then you've had some experience with cloud computing. Instead of running an e-mail program on your computer, you log in to a Web e-mail account remotely"
My issue is not with the license. The solution that I am looking for is
    1. Don't want the developer to download the source code in any fashion either checked out or anything else in the local machine
    2. Want the developer to work directly on the server
    3. Looking for a solution where each developer is not required to install Flex Builder locally and the developer can use Flex Builder that is installed on the server and in his workspace and create/modify build on the server itself
Hope I could make you understand this time ................
