Flash in an AP div

Hello,
I am trying to center an AP <div> element (Yes, I know. This is technically impossible.) with a Flash object inside of it. I know the trick of setting the left to 50% and then decreasing the margin-left by half of the width. However, this does not work when one resizes the browser window. Is there anything that would, or am I aiming for the stars here?
I do realize there are easier ways of centering Flash, but I have a Fireworks HTML that I need to keep as the background layer.
I've searched around on the internet for quite a while, mostly looking through Google search results, and I see that such a thing is probably not doable without some kind of javascript. Please let me know if there is a fairly simple way to do this in Dreamweaver CS5.
Thanks,
Robbie Capps

Not entirely sure why you're using all those APDivs in the first place.
http://apptools.com/examples/pagelayout101.php
But to center your layout, you would need to wrap your content inside a #wrapper division like so.
CSS:
#wrapper {
width: 1000px; /*some width in px, % or em*/
margin: 0 auto; /*centered*/
position: relative:
HTML:
<div id="wrapper">
Your page content and other divisions go here
</div>

  • Is there a better way to position a flash movie than ap div?

    I'm creating a new website(not yet active) and have a great flash movie for the home page.  I've place it in an ap div and of course it moves to a different position in different browsers. Is there any way I can get it to display correctly, or is there a better way to position the movie? Thanks.

    Of course. The following code is for the home page:

  • Flash 'floating out' of div

    Hello,
    I'm trying to embed Flash movie (MP3 player) to HTML using SWFObject. The SWF is 30px high but when you roll over some elements, the height can go up to 100px because some elements show up. What I want to do is to have div 30px high but when I roll over particular Flash elements, then the elements that should show up are not visible. I was wondering if there is a way to allow Flash to 'float out' of the div so the taller elements become visible when rolled over the Flash movie.
    Thanks!

    If you are still wondering, i may have a solution but I haven't had a chance to apply it to an actual site, though it has worked in publish previews. Assuming you were using flash pro, go to publish settings and click on the html tab.
    There are a few settings here that i attempted to mess around with until I got the right result. This means I have no idea how this translates in the html code. Anyways for the following:
    Dimensions: set to percent, and keep it at 100%. This keeps your flash proportionate. The other settings are match movie and pixels. Pixels will allow you to set your own scale while match movie will set it to the dimensions you designated in Flash. I naturally gravitated to match movie but found that if this is done the div table seems to be fixed. We don't have to worry because there's another setting that will maintain the scale you worked with.
    Window Mode: This really depends on how your flash is set up. I personally had a frame so I went with opaque windowless. If you have something where you have a transparent bg or no bg at all, you'll probably go with transparent, but this is something I really have no idea on. Of course having it in window mode will restrict how far your animations can go when in html. So really, you want to have window mode off. I think this is the most important setting you are looking for.
    Scale: This is the setting that allows you to control the actual size of your flash within your stage. I kind of imagine it being similar to how you set up your desktop background with fill, fit, stretch, and center. This would translate to no scale, exact fit, no border, and default. For this one, I went with exact fit since my dimensions were proportionate to my flash.
    both scale and dimensions are pretty flexible, but you need to mess around with it a little to get the window mode to work. You probably figured this out already but I thought I'd put in some input here for anyone else looking for a solution.
    also, sorry if you were trying to solve this in html. I can't really help you there.

  • Insert Flash SWF into a DIV?

    Hi,
    Is it recommended to keep SWF files within its own DIV?
    I have the DIV identified as 'Flash' (div id="flash")...is this a good idea to keep things in place as intended?
    Thanks!

    That's right, it makes no difference what you name the <div>, but if you use id="flash", keep in mind that you cannot reuse that id to display a second .swf on the same page, while using a class would allow you to reuse that class name as often as needed on a page with multiple .swfs.
    So depending on your particular page, you may find using one or the other method, or a combination of the two.... (id vs class) will work better for you.
    Best wishes,
    Adninjastrator

  • [Flash Builder 4] span + div ID of actual selection

    Hi,
    how can i get with the SelectionManager/EditManager the actual style-id from a selection?
    e.g. this is the textflow-text: "<div><span id="bar" fontSize="20" fontWeight="bold" fontStyle="italic" backgroundColor="0xdddddd">bar</span></div>"

    Hello,
    Data Mangement expects unique values for id property.This issue may occur when you select 'Identity' property in Data Mangement wizard which is not unique in the Table.For eg:, you have selected 'name' field as identity property. And your MySQL database table has multiple rows with identical values for 'name' column.
    Can you verify if you have similar setup?
    Thanks,

  • Using CSS and Javascript to display a div with flash in it, mozilla reloads the flash file!

    I am using CSS and Javascript to display a div with an
    embedded flash object in it. Mozilla Firefox reloads the flash file
    when the div is displayed! (I dont want this to happen, as it's
    unexpected functionality, my expectation would be that the flash
    file would not change it's state at all, and would remain in
    whatever state it was left in.)
    I was wondering if anyone has come across this issue and is
    there something I can do to prevent this from occurring?
    To be more specific, I have a single HTML page with 8 flash
    files embedded in it (yeah I know, it's a bit much). I am then
    using CSS and Javascript to display (via a numbered link (with an
    id)) an equivalent numbered div tag containing the flash file.
    Mozilla Firefox reloads the flash object that is in the div.
    Internet Explorer will not do this and will instead, load the flash
    object only upon initial view of the flash object. All subsequent
    links (in IE) will NOT reload the flash object on the page. I'm
    guessing this is some kind of difference in the flash player as an
    Active X object and the plugin, or is it just IE being clever? Or
    am I way off?
    Anyway, here is the code...

  • Ie9 flash object not showing when wmode is set

    I'm searching and searching but do not find any solution for this.
    We're having a flex web application that is working fine until now. We're using until recently the google maps flash api, unfortunately this is already deprecated and will disappear completely in september 2014. Therefor we moved the whole integration to the js v3 api, which is working fine. The whole thing is an overlay over the application, since everything is moved to js, I added the property wmode to the object in html and set it to opaque in order to be able to layer everything. It's working fine for most people, but some (including my boss) are seeing a blank screen. Seems that nothing happens (although the swf loads), and I can not figure out why. Same browser (ie 9 or 10), same flash player version (11.6.xxx). Browser cache cleared, flash player cache cleared...
    Somebody having a clue? Removing the wmode-property solves the issue, but then I'm not be able to get my map on top of the application.
    The swf is definetly loading since I see calls made to the server in order to login etc. It's also not a flash player issue. The swf-file is directly accessable and rendering if done so.
    Thanks

    This means that the SWF is written so that it only works when
    embedded in a web page. When you add the SWF to the stage as a
    stand-alone display object using addChild() it is not being hosted
    in the web page.
    You have 2 options:
    1. Modify the SWF code (if possible) to remove the
    ExternalInterface requirement. You can write code in your AIR
    application javascript to subscribe directly to events from the SWF
    using addListener() and call functions directly on the SWF object
    (Flash/Actionscript is not my primary development environment... so
    if I have gotten the terminology wrong I apologize, but I HAVE
    written a flash application that worked as I describe). My SWF
    actually works embedded in HTML or not using the code "if
    (ExternalInterface.available) {
    ExternalInterface.addCallback("setIsPlaying", setIsPlaying ); }"
    2) Somehow add a HTMLLoader in a new child window (with
    transparent = false) to the stage as a new child. I have not yet
    figured out exactly how to do this, so If anyone can provide
    information on how to do this, I too would be appreciative.

  • Any way to display a message when Flash is not found on the iPad?

    Apple is obviously rejecting Flash to protect it's 'App' revenue.  I've  been on Android phones that run Flash and display all my content  perfectly smooth.  It can be quite frustrating how they are trying to  bury it when I still have yet to see HTML5 replicate the type of  interactive content Flash is capable of producing.
    Is there any way to display a message on the iPad when the Flash player is not found?
    I'd like it to says something along the lines of:
    "Unfortunately the Apple iPad does not support the Flash player  because their business interests do not want it taking away from their  App revenue.
    Did you know that the Dell Streak, HTC Flyer, Blackberry Playbook,  Motorola Xoom, Samsung Galaxy Tab, Toshiba Thrive, and HP Touchpad all  support the Flash player?"
    My HTML code looks something like this...
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>My Page</title>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    </head>
    <body bgcolor="#ECECEC" leftmargin="0" topmargin="0" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0">
    <body onresize="setFlashSize()">
    <div id="flashid" style="width:100%; height:100%;">
    <script type="text/javascript" language="JavaScript">
    function setFlashSize(){
    var viewportheight = document.body.clientHeight;
    var viewportwidth = document.body.clientWidth;
    var mydiv = document.getElementById("flashid");
    var styleheight = parseInt(mydiv.style.height);
    var stylewidth = parseInt(mydiv.style.width);
    if (viewportwidth<880){
    document.getElementById("flashid").style.width = 880+"px"; }
    else {
    document.getElementById("flashid").style.width = 100+"%";}
    if (viewportheight<760){
    document.getElementById("flashid").style.height = 760+"px"; }
    else {
    document.getElementById("flashid").style.height = 100+"%";}
    setFlashSize();
    document.write('<object data="index1.swf" width="100%" height="100%" type="application/x-shockwave-flash">');
    document.write('<param name="movie" value="index1.swf" />');
    document.write('<param name="allowScriptAccess" value="always" />');
    document.write('</object>');
    </script>
    <noscript>Javascript must be enabled to view Flash movie</noscript>
    </div>
    </body>
    </html>

    Use swfobject for Flash detection and you can provide all kinds of alternate content... simple text, images, links, .js slideshow, a mov or mp4 video just for the iPhone... ANYTHING this is regular HTML. Your imagination is the only limit.
    And YES, HTML5 is a far cry from replicating Flash... so give them the best of both worlds.
    http://code.google.com/p/swfobject/
    Review this article which deals with Flash and SEO for more ideas:
    If you think that Flash is somehow bad for SEO, it's time to dispell that MYTH!
    If fact, in some circumstances I'll use Flash INSTEAD of just HTML because then I'll have better SEO than with just HTML alone.
    http://www.worldbarefootcenter.com/
    The link to World Barefoot Center in the above post is just one example. View the source code and you see a couple paragraphs of text along with regular HTML links.... but what displays is the Flash version of the image and Flash links.
    The client provided the artwork for the page... and that's what they wanted to use a .jpg image. Well yes, that could be done in HTML but it would be virtually invisible to Google. So Instead I converted the image into a Flash .swf and used swfobject to display the Flash. swfobject allows you to create alternate content inside the <div> which also holds the Flash .swf, then when the page is loaded it detects if the browser has the Flash pluggin. If it does, it displays just the Flash content, if not, it displays the alternate content. Since almost everyone has the Flash pluggin, for most people the Flash version of the <div> will display.
    The alternate content for that <div> can be any regular HTML text, images, media player, links, etc., anything that you would use if you were not using the Flash. Now the best part is that the alternate content can be "over the top" as far as optimizing for SEO, since it will not be seen by most viewers.
    Here's another example of SEO with Flash.. again, the page is just a single image provided by the client:
    http://www.ksowetsuits.com/
    View the source code. The alt content is paragraph after paragraph of information about the site, including lists and links. If it was just the HTML, it might be kind of a boring Home page. But for SEO I can go "over the top" in promoting the site, since most viewers will never see that part... but it's all indexed by search engines. The end result is BETTER SEO using Flash than just HTML.
    On another Web site, a Flash video is displayed, the alt content is the complete text narration of the video. Now how many people would take the time to read that if they could just watch the video instead?? again, better SEO with Flash than without. In fact in one case we had first page search result from that video narration within 4 hours of posting the page.
    On still another site with a Flash video, the alt content is another video, but a .mov version, which will, in effect play Flash video on the iPhone (not possible you say??). Well since the iPhone does not have Flash pluggin, it simply displays the .mov version of the video, while everyione else sees the Flash version.
    So anyway, if Flash is a part of your Web development, you should look into using swfobject and alternate content.

  • Embedding Flash in HTML using Dreamweaver - stopped working

    Hi all, not really sure what's going on, but I've done this many times before and it's worked fine.
    I've previously embedding Flash videos I've created in Premiere and/or converted using other software.  I simply drag and drop the Flash file where I want it and then adjust layout using code/design etc and that's it, job done.  It's always played back fine.
    Now for some reason I've tried doing it again this morning and can't figure it out.  When I preview the file it doesn't even show the video, but instead displays all the icons for the controls at once in a grid where the video is meant to be.  I've tried in IE, Firefox and Chrome, updated drivers, windows, Adobe, Flash etc all to no avail.
    I've even tried doing it in a blank HTML page in case some of the template I might have been using was interfering for some strange reason; still no luck.  What's even stranger is that a site I created last year is also now not displaying Flash (FLV) content locally, but is working fine on the server.
    Does anyone have any ideas?
    (CS5 Dw:V11 build 4993, Win7 64bit SP1)
    I've pasted the code from the blank HTML page.  It's probably something really simple that I've not noticed:

    Im' having a VERY similar problem with a few estra 'happy' moments. I have a blog (WP). On this simple and VERY basic blog (with almost NO plug ins) I have attempted to embed FLV videos with CS$ Dreamweaver code.
    (This code is different in CS$ than it was in earlier versions as it now calls to the FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf as the player and uses Flashvars to pass the value of the FLV. PReviously, it was four simple lines of code that pointed directly to the SWF)
    Here was my process - I encoded the files with AE and Media Encoder to end up with Transparent FLV's. These, I then setup in Dreamweaver so I could copy the embed code. On my first attempt, it worked PERFECTLY. I was testing one particular flv, got the code and inserted it into the blog page with some special CSS to position it.
    The movie played perfectly.
    Then things got weird.
    I was excited I had a solution, so I went to put another video on another page. No luck. The second page was playing the video from the first page. As if I had copied the same code, but I hadn't. I copied code that was 'pointing' to the new file, but for whatever reason, the new file would not play.
    I did EVERYTHING. I deleted all the pages and strted fresh. I deleted the FLV's and reuploaded them. I created different folders and put each flv in it and created index.html files for each (assuming possibly there was a hardcoded element in the FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf). I copied and pasted back and forth for nearly 6 hours.
    Nothing. Each time I would copy and paste code into a blog page, it would simply pull the original video.
    THEN....things got worse.
    I pulled one video off of the server, and now NONE work. I can't get ANY videos to play. Worse, I still have the 'express install' link showing.
    Ok, so here is what I am trying to figure out;
    Does the NEW DW CS4 code somehow have control over the file that is called? Further, HOW can I get more than one FLV to play across a whole blog site.
    Here is a link to one of the pages that HAS code but is calling NOTHING. And please know that I have left copies of the necessary files ALL over the server. So they are in the root, in the 'files' folder, in the talent folder and everywhere.
    Is there a conflict flash hits when there are multiple FLV's being called? Is there a way to do this? Please help....
    Thank you

  • All flash components work when published except one....

    I have a website built in Dreamweaver CS4 that uses a flash header, photo gallery and video. Everything works great except for the video on the home page. From what I can tell it works fine in Firefex but not IE8 or IE8 in compatability mode. IE keeps saying I need a newer version of Flash (which of course is not true).
    This is the page I am having problems with www.thefestivaloftrees.com/home.html the video is at the bottom of the page. I'm still a newbie at designing websites so my problem solving skills are limited. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    Don't have an answer to your question but the link you provided in broken because file names are case sensitive on your server.

    I have to agree with Ken.  Even if you manage to get Flash into the page background (no small feat) people won't be able to interact with it. That's usability problem #1.
    #2 Flash is a dead web technology because the world's most popular mobile & tablet devices cannot see Flash content.  So you're alienating a lot of people before you've even begun.
    Depending on what your Flash file contains, you might want to switch to a responsive jQuery image slider like the ones below.
    ResponsiveSlides
    http://responsiveslides.com/
    Cycle 2
    http://www.malsup.com/jquery/cycle2/
    Or, use Adobe Edge Animate instead of Flash. Edge Animate outputs to HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript which are supported by all modern devices except IE8 and earlier.  For tips on making Edge Animations adapt to screen size, see the following link.

    any ideas??
    or is anyone else having this issue?
    thanks
    Jordan
    here's is my current test page link with a sample flv video:
    http://www.lambethdesktop.com/flashtest/index.html
    i've also attached the code of the html page it has been
    embedded in.

    This script appears to be missing (or uploaded to the wrong
    folder)

  • Print Preview in Safari for Windows does not display Flash object

    I have a web page with images, text and a flash movie in several divs. I can see all the objects on the page but when I print preview the flash object is not displayed. The same problem occurs in Firefox 3 but not in IE6/7 or Opera9.5
    Any clues/help would be greatly appreciated.

    Click Help -> Report Bugs to Apple.
    I'm hoping they fix it.

  • Troubleshooting Flash DW-Need help please.

    While working on a project, I suddenly found that I was no longer able to view my flash content once loaded to server. Locally, all content looks fine. I've been converting .wma files to .flv so I thought it was my conversion process but I ran some test on existing flash projects done in the past and those do not show on server either when placing into new DW index files. So, it appears my flash files are not the problem, it appears to be how Dreamweaver is embedding the file. By looking at the code below, it doesn't appear to be embedding at all and all the additional code is completely new to me. None of my previous Dreamweaver files imported .swf files with this code. Can someone please take a look and point me in the right direction? If this is kosher, I have a different problem but I'm stumped. I've been fooling around with this for hours. Here is an active link in addition to the code below. Just a junk file but acceptable for reference. http://www.polarpitcher.com/testing.html

  • How to embed a flash video into a logo?

    Hello,
    I'm new to flash and dreamweaver and I'm slowly trying to learn it.  I have created a a flash logo for my website (http://www.emorgenstern.com) and I'm trying to extend the background color to cover the rest of top.
    In dreamweaver I have put the embedded flash video in a div class and modified the class to extend the entire length with the proper background color.  In dreamweaver everything looks right but when I upload the actual .html and .css file it does not appear right.  The actual testing link is http://emorgenstern.com/emorgen/emorgen/index.html
    Below is the code for those sections.
    Here is the .html file
    <div class= "banner">
    <object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" codebase="http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=9,0,28,0" width="468" height="60"   title="banner">
      <param name="movie" value="../banner.swf" />
      <param name="quality" value="high" /><param name="LOOP" value="false" />
      <embed src="../banner.swf" width="468" height="60" loop="false" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFlash" type="application/x-shockwave-flash"></embed>
    </object>
    </div>
    Here is the .css file
    div.banner {
         margin:50px 0px 10px 0px;
         padding:17px 0px 0px 20px;
         border-style:solid;
         border-color:black;
         border-width:1px 0px;
         line-height:11px;
         background-color:#eee;
         width:100%;
    Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance.

    Your code is kind of messy.  Use the validation tools below and fix reported errors.
    HTML Validator - http://validator.w3.org
    CSS Validator - http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/
    HTML & CSS Tutorials - http://w3schools.com/
    Where did you get the CSS style sheet you're using?  It looks like an experiment, and not a real world CSS.  You might be better off using one of the the pre-built CSS layouts that ships with DW CS4.
    Anyway, to answer you question.  In your HTML, move your  flash code between this:
    <div id="Header">
    and this
    </div>
    In your CSS, change all this:
    /*#Header {
        margin:50px 0px 10px 0px;
        padding:17px 0px 0px 20px;
        height:33px;
        border-style:solid;
        border-color:black;
        border-width:1px 0px;
        line-height:11px;
        background-color:#eee;
        voice-family: "\"}\"";
        voice-family:inherit;
        height:14px;
    body>#Header {height:14px;}
    to this:
    #Header {
        width: 100%;
        background-color:#eee;
