Flash movie in PowerPoint doesn't play

I have an SWF file in a PowerPoint 2003 presentation, on
Vista. When I open it, I get a message "Some controls in this
presentation can't be activated; they may not be registered on this
computer." I don't get this when I open the same presentation on
another computer (using XP).
When I select the movie, right-click and choose Properties,
the Properties sheet is blank! (I've never seen this before.) I'm
sure that this movie worked before on this machine, but can't
figure out what may have changed to cause this. I had an expired
Flash CS3 beta (I'm the co-author of Flash for Dummies), but I
uninstalled it. However, it's still on my Ctrl Panel>Programs
& Features list.
When double-clicking an SWF in Win Explorer, Windows asked
what program to use, even tho' I had Player 9 installed. I
re-downloaded and installed 9 and told Win to use the player and
then I could play the SWF from Win Explorer, but that didn't help
the same SWF when in PowerPoint.
I wanted to uninstall 9 and install 8 but haven't been able
to uninstall 9. I tried Ctrl Panel and downloaded the uninstaller
and tried that. It's off my Ctrl Panel list, but still opens when I
double-click an SWF. I downloaded Player 8 and tried to install but
it failed; said I don't have the appropriate privileges.
I need the SWF to play in PowerPoint; doing a presentation on
Monday!
Thanks,
Ellen Finkelstein

For HTML5 output you need to replace Flash animations by HMTL animations.

  • Flash Movie In Template Will Not Play

    I built a site using Dreamweaver 8 that is based upon a
    template. I made several changes to the template, and each was
    incorporated into all of the pages created from the template.
    However, when I inserted a Flash movie into the template it will
    not play on any of the pages. I double-checked to see if "autoplay"
    was selected, and it was. I played the movie from the template in
    design view and it looked fine. I made a new page and inserted the
    movie into the page, bypassing the template, and it played. Does
    anyone have any tips that might help me to get the movie that is
    inserted in the template to play throughout the site?
    Thanks!

  • Creating a Simple Flash Movie With Poster Frame and Play/Pause Buttons

    Hi, It's been over a year since I played with Flash last, and
    I have completely forgotten everything I learned.
    I have a .flv file which I want to play on my website. It
    should display a poster frame when the page load, and not autoplay
    the movie. It should have the play button I made in photoshop
    sitting on top of the poster frame. When pressed, the movie should
    start playing and the button should be shifted for the pause button
    I made in PS (it should work just like the play/pause button in
    iTunes). When the movie has finished playing, it should jump back
    to the poster frame.
    I have tried using the flvplayback component and also played
    around with just embedding the flv directly and inserting a play
    and pause button from the common library, but I can't seem to get
    it to work. With the flvplayback component I have managed most of
    it apart from using my own buttons and getting the poster frame to
    work (which apparently has to be done with Action script).
    Any help appreciated.

    Which version of Flash/actionscript are you using? Since you
    are just starting out, you should read one of Adobe's tutorials on
    the matter. Either use Flash Help to find examples on how to use
    Flash or go to their website. Here is a great tutorial for someone
    just starting out. Make sure you read all three tutorials in "Using
    Flash for the first time".

  • Flash Player loads but doesn't play

    I just recently got a new computer, one running Vista
    Premium. For the first few days after I installed flash player, it
    worked perfectly in whichever browser I used. However, starting
    yesterday, whenever a web page has flash on it, the browser crashes
    after it has loaded. The same thing happens on IE, firefox, and
    opera, all of which are the lastest versions. I've tried
    reinstalling flash player, but to no avail. Hopefully, I'll be able
    to find some reason for this here. =\
    Edit:
    Well, I feel stupid. I didn't restart the computer after
    reinstalling flash player. Although, I'm not sure why it stopped
    working in the first place. But anyways, everything seems to be
    working fine now.

    Hi dhessi,
    Glad to hear that your issue was resolved. Flash Player does
    not normally require you to reboot your machine; however Vista does
    require that IE 7 is restarted after installation of Flash Player.

  • Playing Flash Movie .swf files in iWeb

    This is my second post. The first was about generally not being able to publish my website in iWeb in Argentina. Discovered it was due to the 12 kilobytes a second upload speed!
    This query is about trying to get a flash movie with .swf extension to play on my homepage in iWeb
    www.edgold.co.uk
    Ive made a flash movie on my girlfriends PC. Why? Because she has Flash installed.
    Ive transferred it to my Mac and it plays with a programme I downloaded called SWF & FLV Player - no problem there. For the love of trying I cant get it to play.
    Ive gone to 'Insert' in iWeb, clicked on Choose and selected the swf file. Ive put it in position on my homepage and published it. Then Ive opened the HTML page thats found in iDisk using TextEdit so that I can change the html to get the flash plug in to play it.
    I found all the details on website by 'Vertical Moon'
    http://www.verticalmoon.com/tutorials/general/iweb/iweb.htm
    Ive followed every step to the letter but where they seem to slip up is that the swf file isnt played by QuickTime. QuickTime on my Mac doesnt want to know! If it was played by QT then I'd have a chance to change the html from 'writeMovie1()' to writeflash1() but there is no sign of that code in the html file let alone having to change it in JavaScript.
    At the end of the day Ive got an swf file (Flash) that I want to stiuck on the front page of my website to play over and over. Ive spent over 18 hours on this non-stop and its time I called it a day.
    Please can someone tell me how to get iWeb to make friends with it!
    Ive looked at lost of other sites about free Video code generating but none of them work!
    Cheers

    (Im in Patagonia - documentary photographer...sorting a good site helps me secure sponsorship and future exhibition venues. Your help is appreciated!

    Thanks for replying and the great info on getting a QuickTime to play automatically.
    Please can you continue to help as Im having no luck.
    I will write below briefly whats happening.
    I made a QuickTime in iPhoto as was suggested. I dropped it into iWebs 'Media' button under the 'Movies' tab, in a folder. I then dropped the QT file onto my web home page. It shows with a control bar at the bottom of its window for playing it.
    I published it OK. The live website shows the QuickTime movie BUT you have to click play to start it. So I then I opened the html file in iDisk in TextEdit.
    I tried and tried to find the html code for the QT Movie. I read and re-read the whole html file from top to bottom and found no sign of the QT Movie. Then I went to 'Edit' and 'Find' in TextEdit and typed Movie. It came up with a bit of code which says writeMovie1();
    I guess that this means it is talking about THE movie in question but there is no more code to
    do with 'true' or 'false'. If it said false Id change to true but writeMovie1(); just looks like this:
    <script type="text/javascript"><!--
    writeMovie1();
    --></script>
    stuck almost at the bottom of the html file page.
    Please help...remember Im using iWeb 06
    Thanks...I hope Im close to solving this now. All I want is to play the QT automatically.

  • AS3, Flash movies and buttons

    Okay, it's been a while since I used Flash (V.4) and things
    have moved on just a smidge since. In previous versions Flash was
    intuitive... coding was fairly minimal and doing the basics was
    straight forward. I need to use Flash to do some fairly simple
    stuff - a few buttons linked with various scenes and movies.
    I followed the step-by-step instructions in the tutorial for
    making a button to play a movie but:
    1. The movie (an FLV) doesn't play (I get a flashing movie
    icon when I test the page - the movie works fine when imported to
    the scene on its own)
    2. The button doesn't work
    The code (according to the tutorial) should be:
    movie1.stop();
    but1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,startclip);
    function startclip(e:MouseEvent):void {
    movie1.play();

    Hmmm, even posting a message properly seems to be beyond at
    the moment!
    I meant to add the code that I get (following the steps in
    the tutorial):
    import flash.events.MouseEvent;
    import flash.events.IEventDispatcher;
    import flash.display.MovieClip;
    movee1.stop();
    but1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.MOUSE_DOWN,startclip);
    function startclip(e:MouseEvent):void {
    movee1.play();

    i have a spry navigation bar with a flash movie underneath,
    and when i hover over the navbar and the submenu pops down it
    covers the flash movie, but it doesn't cover the .jpg image that is
    next to the flash movie. how can i fix this? thanks.

    thanks for the reply Murray, a responder from the flash forum
    gave me the following answer and it worked perfect.>>
    The <object> and/or <embed> HTML elements that
    reference your Flash content accept a number of optional
    parameters. For the <object> element, these parameters are
    supplied via nested <param> elements. Simply add the
    following new <param>:
    <param name="wmode" value="opaque">
    The <embed> parameters are supplied via attributes. For
    the <embed> element, add the following new attribute:
    wmode="opaque"
    That’s it. Your Flash content is now stackable via
    z-index; for example, you may wrap your
    <object>/<embed> pair in a <div> and set the
    <div>’s z-index as you please.
    <div style="position: absolute; z-index=1;">
    <object attributes >
    <embed attributes />
    </object>
    </div>
    If you’re using Dreamweaver, just press the Parameters
    button in the Insert > Media > Flash dialog or in the
    Property inspector when selecting existing Flash content. Type
    “wmode” (without quotes) in the name/parameter column
    and “opaque” (without quotes) in the value column. That
    will handle the above HTML for you, even with the new JavaScript
    embedding available since the 8.0.2 update.

  • HELP! IE looping flash movies

    My company's intranet home page has two flash movies on it
    set to play once.
    Some kind of Microsoft patch was initiated over the weekend
    company wide and
    now IE loops the movies. The source code has the loop set to
    false but IE is
    ignoring it. If you right click on the4 flash the loop is
    checked.
    Unchecking it fixes the problem but you have to do it every
    time the page is
    loaded. Anyone know what is going on?
    Thanks
    mark

    I don't know why that is happening, but putting a stop();
    action on the last frame should keep the movie from looping. It is
    a hard issue to solve without seeing the problem first hand, but
    since it is on your intranet that isn't going to happen.

    What you're seeing is the result of the default WMODE
    setting for Flash
    Player, which you can change. Keep in mind, Flash content
    isn't something
    any browser natively supports. It requires an ActiveX
    component or plugin,
    and as a result, is processed outside of the browser's
    composition buffer.
    This lifts Flash content (and other active content, like
    QuickTime, Java
    applets, and so on) from the context of its surroundings. To
    change that,
    you can configure a SWF's WMODE setting for transparent or
    opaque, as
    described here:
    http://www.quip.net/blog/2006/flash/how-to-position-flash-beneath-other-content
    Be aware that any WMODE setting other than the default has
    been known to
    cause usability issues as described in the articles/blog
    entries further
    linked from the above URL.

  • Flash movie won't play in PowerPoint

    I have created a flash movie, however, when I try to view the
    slideshow, all I see is a blank page. I have installed the most
    updated Active Controls and the Shockwave Player, but it still
    won't play.

    Right click. Open up the properties of the embedded swf.
    Change 'Playing' to True. Close properties.
    Careful, this may not last. I think it automatically reverts
    to "playing = Flase"

  • Flash movie doesn't load properly in IE only

    I have a simple flash movie which transitions through text and photos. I have a preloader (AS3) on frame 1, which sends the playhead to frame 2, after the movie has loaded 100%. For some reason, in Internet Explorer, the preloader bar will load all the way, but fail to move the playhead to frame 2, so it'll just sit there, with the preload bar at 100%. However, this does not happen every time. For instance, right now, the flash movie will play when I initially go to the website, but when I click on another page, the same flash header (same swf on each page) will just show the preloader bar but will not play the rest of the movie. Reloading the page doesn't help. Closing the browser and reopening it doesn't help. Clearing the browser cache doesn't help either. So, the flash movie will play correctly on the first page of the website I go to (whether it be the home page or another page) but then when I go to any other page which has the flash movie, it won't play, just sits there with the preloader bar showing. And then when going back to the initial page I entered the site on, the flash movie no longer plays there, either. I haven't seen this problem in any other browser than Internet Explorer (6 and 7). I've checked in Firefox on Mac and PC and Safari on Mac. I'm using flash player 10.0.22.87 on my Mac and PC. The flash movie was made in Flash CS3, for flash player 9, actionscript 3 code.
    So, to see the problem, go here in Internet Explorer: http://demo.matthewpavkov.com/adairsolar. Wait for the movie to load and start playing. It works. Then, navigate to one of the other pages and you'll see that the same swf will not play. Navigate back to the home page, the swf does not play.
    Here is the preloader code:
    import flash.display.*;
    this.stop();
    this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, PL_LOADING);
    function PL_LOADING(event:ProgressEvent):void {
        var pcent:Number=event.bytesLoaded/event.bytesTotal*100;
        lbar.scaleX=pcent/100;
        lpc.text=int(pcent)+"%";
        if (pcent>=100) {
            this.gotoAndStop(2);
    Also, if I remove the preloader actionscript code, the flash movie plays correctly. You can see that here: http://demo.matthewpavkov.com/adairsolar/no-preload
    The .fla is available to anyone who wants to take a closer look.

    mjjp,
         In may just be that in IE, the ProgressEvent never fires -- because your content is already cached.  See what happens if you add the following new lines (very end of the code sample):
    this.stop();
    this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(
      ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, PL_LOADING
    function PL_LOADING(event:ProgressEvent):void {
      var pcent:Number=event.bytesLoaded/event.bytesTotal*100;
      lbar.scaleX=pcent/100;
      lpc.text=int(pcent)+"%";
      if (pcent>=100) {
        this.gotoAndStop(2);
    if (this.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded >= this.loaderInfo.bytesTotal) {
      this.gotoAndStop(2);
         See what's going on?  This way, even of the ProgressEvent handler never fires, you're still comparing the bytesLoaded property against the bytesTotal property.

  • Playing streamed MP4 audio in a Flash movie

    Is anyone aware of an xtra/extension for Flash that would
    enable a flash movie to play files save in the mpeg-4 audio (mpa4,
    mp4) format? I'm looking at flash-based podcast players, and one I
    found said that it can't play podcasts published in mp4 format
    because flash player 8 doesn't support it.
    I thought though that maybe there would be a 3rd party
    xtension or something that would enable it to play those
    podcasts.

    Flash does not have any extension or plugins, never had.

  • Flash movies won't play in document or browser

    Hi there,
    I am having problems with putting flash movies onto my website. I know this is a common problem so apologies for any repetition.
    I have trawled through a lot of forums trying to solve this issue and so far have not found a solution that works for me.
    First of all I'm using dreamweaver v7, on a macbook OSX (intel)
    On inserting flash movie, only the box with 'f' apears in the document, and in browser, nothing at all. It doesn't worry me so much that the movie doesn't appear in the doc, as with shockwave it's the same. However shockwaves play fine in browser.
    I have tried the following so far:
    - moved the movie .flv file to the same folder as the html document that it relates to
    - made the file name really, really simple. 6 letters and no other characters.
    - tested in alternative browsers
    - tried inserting another flash object (flash button) to see whether the problem resides in inserting flash objects, or if the problem is with the movie file itself (the flash button worked, so I thought the movie file must be the problem) - so then ...
    - I tried compressing the movie in a different programme - I tried sorenson squeeze - still nothing
    - As inserting the movie as a quicktime works fine using 'insert shockwave', I even tried changing the file extension of the QT version from .mov to .swf as I read somewhere that it might work (!!!??) but it didn't though the movie still played without dreamweaver
    So, I reach the conclusion that the movie is not after all the problem - but what is? since inserting other flash objects does work?
    Very confused! Thank you for any help offered.... Laura

    I am a bit confused though - is flash video not the same as flash movie?
    No. Flash refers to its files as movie files. FLA (editable) and SWF (compressed for Web) are Flash movies - not to be confused with cinema. FLV files are Flash Video files.
    Just to confuse matters some, just prior to the creation of the .flv format, it was not uncommon to import videos into Flash and save them as .swf movies (videos). But that was only good for very short, very small videos.
    Additionally, since you brought it up, Shockwave files are also referred to as movies. But they are created by Director, not Flash. Director, like Flash, refers to its files as movie files. DIR is the editable file and DCR is the Shockwave-compressed file for the Web. The Shockwave plugin is not the same as the Shockwave Flash plugin. Shockwave Flash cannot play Shockwave movies, but Shockwave movies can play Flash .swf movies - neither of which are videos.
    How's that for clear as mud?

    Hi Brubble,
    IE 6 launched an update a while back which causes this to
