Flash plugin in browser performance

I'm a noob Flash developer and I've just noticed that when I
run my .swf from within a browser (using the latest Flash9 plugin),
the .swf runs ~30% slower when compared to just double-clicking on
the .swf (in this case, uses my installed Flash7 .exe, MX 2004). If
I put up the Windows cpu performance monitor, the cpu is basically
at zero after the .swf loads. Plenty of cpu to spare.
Double clicking the .swf, the .swf runs very smooth, as
expected. There are obvious frame hits when run in a browser.
The .swf is a trivial game with less than 100 lines of code.
Just something I typed in from a book.
Any comments would be appreciated.
Thanks.

This is a well-known issue with the Flash/Shockwave browser plugins and is not unique to OSX or Safari (occurs on Firefox and on Windows as well). It will cause problems even when there is no Flash on the page. It's most likely an implementation problem with Adobe. Uninstalling Flash+Shockwave player fixes the issue.

  • Flash plugin hangs browser(s)

    Hi,
Earlier today I created a topic on this on the Mozilla support forums.
    Content repeated below:
    post 1)
    Hi,
    The following issue is driving me nuts;
Since upgrading to 3.6 sites using Flash hang firefox indefinately.
The behaviour appears to occur random; some days no problem, some days I get hangs on every flash page.
The download progress bar just stops in the middle somewhere and Firefox becomes unresponsive and has to be killed through task manager.
The behaviour is caused by NPSWF32.dll (the Flash 10 dll).
In about:plugins I can see the following:
    Shockwave Flash
    File: NPSWF32.dll
    Version: 10.0.42.34
    Shockwave Flash 10.0 r42
    application/x-shockwave-flash      Adobe Flash movie      swf
    application/futuresplash      FutureSplash movie      spl
In Proces Explorer (sysinternals) I can see several NPSWF32.dll threads when FF hangs.
Usually with 2 separate Start adresses.
Right now, for instance, FF is hanging (after I started it in safe-mode without add-ons).
In Process Explorer I see 5 NPSWF32.dll threads:
    3 with start address 0x14cd2 (NPSWF32.dll!nativeShockwaveFlash_TCallLabel+0x14cd2)
    2 with start address 0x637b (NPSWF32.dll!nativeShockwaveFlash_TCallLabel+0x637b)
    All threads have state Wait:UserRequest
Killing these threads in order of last created will cause Firefox to start responding again.
In this case killing the 2 0x637b threads caused Firefox to start responding again.
Unfortunately I usually have to repeat this process for every page which is using Flash.
Any clues to finding a permanent fix would be much appreciated (and yes, I have tried reinstalling Flash, multiple times).
    Thanks in advance.
    Ralph
    Part of post 2)
Google Chrome displays the same behaviour (but after some seconds a pop-up offers to close the non-responsive tab).
    Part of post 3)
    On this page:
    http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/C ... 1abd&hl=en
someone suggested it may be related to sound drivers
I tried uninstalling / reïnstalling the plugin several times, without errors, but still the plugin hangs on Flash pages.
Only way to get the browser to respond again is by killing NPSWF32.dll threads.
Any clues on fixing this would be greatly appreciated.
    Ralph

Hi, I would like to have you post all of your add ons in IE, both currently loaded and have been loaded and version#'s if listed and the same with the FF plugins, extenstions and add ons.
You don't want to try to install FP vs 9, it will fail and you may have more problems as a result than you now have.
McAfee is definitely a problem. We'll address that later. McAfee and Norton are the most intrusive Anti-Virus programs on the market. They can't even be uninstalled by a regular method. They each have their own Uninstallers. Just think "big
brother". They practically take over your computer and dictate what you can and can't do. So, yes, a major issue.
However, you have several things going on but I would start with the add ons first and proceed from there. If you want
me to help you sort this out, you must agree not to "move the goal posts". By that I mean adding, removing, changing,
installing, uninstalling etc.  I cannot help you if you do that. This is a busy forum and my time is valuable. If you want to experiment that is fine, but I try not to waste my time on that.

  • Flash plugin installation for Firefox browser

I have a very simple question:
I am running Linux, and I use the latest Firefox browser.
From this site (Adobe) I downloaded the flash plugin
    "flash-plugin-9.0.124.0-release.i386.rpm". Then I installed the
package with the "rpm -Uvh ... " command (as superuser of course).
It appeared that the installation succeeded. Afterwards, the
command "rpm -q flash-plugin" shows that it is installed. However,
Firefox still does not see the plash player. What else do I need to
    do? Can anybody help?
    Thanks for your suggestions.

    try this
    First, close running Firefox.
    Open the terminal (shell prompt)
    Install Flash Player
Type the following command to install :
    $ sudo apt-get install flashplugin-nonfree
Some people might find voice is not working with newly
    installed flash player.
Type following commands to solve this problem
    $ sudo apt-get install alsa-oss
    $ gksudo gedit /etc/firefox/firefoxrc
Find line that read as FIREFOX_DSP and set to :
    FIREFOX_DSP="aoss"
    Save and close the file.
Close Firefox and restart it again.

  • Flash Plugin for N73 Browser

I have purchased N73 and am enjoying the browsing experience with N73.
But I feel that it does not have the Flash plugin for the browser. I want to know what is the default browser for Nokia N73 and how to get the flash plugin for that?

The default browser is "Services". The phone also has "Web", which is another (newer) browser.
Neither one supports "full" Flash as used by web designers on many sites.
The phone supports Flash-Lite 1.1, and I think with the "Services" browser it might work on web sites with embdedded Flash-Lite 1.1 compatible content, too. Never tried it myself (not that many web sites that support Flash-Lite anyway; I don't know of any).
There is also no separately downloadable/installable "full" Flash plugin available, I'm afraid. You could always ask Adobe to make one, if they think it is possible.
You can, of course, also ask the web site owners/developers for a more mobile friendly site that doesn't use PC-only technologies.

Via Javascripting. Look for Flash detection kits at the
    Adobe/Maromedia web
site and also at Internet search engines.
As well this forum focuses on database access issues and you
    might find more
takers for this type of question in the Flash General forum.

  • Bally Chohan : - How install flash plugins in opera browser?

I am trying to install flash plugin in opera browser for videos, but it is showing unexpected error 312. What should I do now?

Not too sure there's a way to turn flash off temporarily. You
will have to uninstall it and then reinstall it when you want it
    again.

  • I keep getting a message that my browser has blocked Flash plugin. How can I get it unblocked?

I updated my Adobe Flash plugin and now I keep getting a message, each time I log on to my email that my browser has blocked it. How can I remedy this?

Here's what happened: Last week, Adobe updated the way they report the Flash version (not Firefox version but the version of Flash) as part of a Flash update. It seems that Yahoo Mail didn't update their code to check correctly and so it looks like (to them) that Flash isn't working (they can see that you have it installed but the version check code doesn't work).
This should be fixed on the Yahoo side.

  • Firefox29, on a new win7 computer which has never had ff installed, will not install the latest flash plugin from adobe.

I promise to refrain from venting my disgust :-) but when FF 9 blew up the entire web. I had all kinds of issues so I did things like Bill Gates taught us to do. I re-installed windows 7, brand new, formatted HD and all. The very first thing I did was open IE to download FF29 from the mozilla site and it installed. I went to pages I know have fits with flash on purpose, www.nydailynews.com, for instance and got the message that no flash was installed, do I want to install it? Well, yes, I have brand new FF on a brand new computer, so to ahead. Did the usual, installed Flash, shut down, and even rebooted the computer, and golly gee, the web pages tell me I have no flash installed. Its in IE, and of course chrome, and it appears in the installed program control panel, but I can't use flash with FF 29.
I wiped the hard drive and reinstalled win 7, then installed ff 28. Went to adobe and installed their latest flash version, and still no flash in any version of firefox. I also checked the option to never update, but when I rebooted an opend FF29, it miraculously turned into FF29, and of course still does not work with the flash plugin.
I think firefox has had a world of trouble with Adobe Flash for over a year and have hoped for a solution. Basically a browser that cannot run Flash media is totally useless. I wonder why this problem was no addressed and corrected, when instead all the the resources were put into raping my computer and forcing FF29 onto it?
I am not a cry baby, who wants to complain, but will you please fix this issue so I don't have to abandon my favorite browser.. I don't enjoy Chrome, and IE is just not an option for me.
Before you make any moreoverhauls on the UI, could you fix the problems with flash. I find it a little condescending to tell a 25 year user of computers to make sure " you have the latest versions" when in fact I have a brand new install of windows and the very latest from Adobe and Mozilla and they do no wok together, even when I down grade to FF 28, which as I told you, automatically upgrades to FF 29 each time I boot up.
Please help. IF installing the latest Adobe onto a brand new hard drive and install of windows 7 fails, what do you suggest, as the usual " version issue" cannot apply here.
FWIW, I have vista on my laptop with the same problems, the same reinstalls and the same guaranteed latest versions. Since the hd is formtted, there cannot be an residual FF dlls hanging around or in the registry.
I have always seen open source as the way to the future, since the first PC arrived, but its looking like a bad idea.
If you want to build a firefox that works, I will pay for it, so long as I can get help when things break. Browsers are huge in the web, so paying for reliable performance seems like a fair thing to do.
I am sorry, but I am frustrated at the lack of progress towards a solution and really do not wish to be told to see if I am using the latest versions. I have taken every step possible and gone all the way to a brand new machine and FF does not work with flash reliably.
    Help? Please?

adobe test page says it is installed. but I said, some pages I visit say I don't have it installed.
I use prefbar ( I delete it and reinstall to make sure its not an issue) usually because it lets me turn off flash and avoid the crashing and locking up but when I check the flash block on prefbar, it says " plugin is not loaded"
I posted from the machine that does not work, but it does not work on my Vista Laptop, or my daughter's computer either. In all cases, I wiped the drives and reinstalled the OS and went directly to Firefox for 29 and to adobe for their latest.
Flash IS installed on my machine... It works in IE, and Chrome, but firefox 29 does not install the flash plugin, even tho the installer says all is well
The reason I went totally clean is to make sure there was no process blocking it or if Java was creating the issue as well. The reality is, I started with a brand new computer, three times, and Flash will not load into Firefox 29 in any case
I have started clean many times now and backed up and installed ff 28. I had no problem with the flash plugin using ff28, . I would have stayed there, but when shut down ff 28 and opened it later, it "magically downgraded to version 29" and i do mean " downgraded -( even tho I had gone into options and said do not install updates.
I am grateful for your attention. I find that web browsers are very important anymore, an a non functional one makes the web a waste. I mentioned www.nydailynews.com and would really not want to make a long list of every page that demands a flash plugin, for they are legion that I don't have, mostly because when the page wants flash, FF locks up. Its will not even let me copy the URL to try and make a list, but the browser is totally locked up and I have to kill the process I get the message I have been getting for about a year that the shockwave plugin has stopped working. There is no shockwave on my computer.
I know it looks like I have two different problems as the plugin does not load, but for instance, when I got it worrking in FF28, it loaded but constantly crashed an locked up the browser with the shockwave message, even tho I never install shockwave any time
Frustration is the word for the day, or the week :-)
    Thanks much
    Kind regards,
    John

Recent crashes of certain multimedia contents (this includes Youtube videos, certain flash games and other applications) in conjunction with Firefox 13 are most probably caused by a recent Flash 11.3 update and/or a malfunctioning Real Player browser plugin.

  • StageWebView disable Flash Plugin

    Hello everybody,
I am developing an App with Adobe AIR for Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
In some part of the application I use a StageWebView to display HTML-Content.
Unfortunately within the HTML-Content there is flash-content and its performance is bad.
Therefore we disabled rendering of Flash content  by adding "<application android:hardwareAccelerated="false"/>" to the AIR-Discriptor file.
But this options only prevent rendering/visibility of flash-content and actually does not disable the use of the plugin within the StageWebView.
Also if I changed under Android browser settings the usage of plugins the behavior is the same.
The native android browser behaves the right way.
Is there any posibility to really disable the plugin in StageWebView?
    Regards,
    Jan

The difference you're seeing is that iOS does not allow Flash plug-ins, even through StageWebView.
(sorry, can't help you on how to turn off the plug for Android)

    Hello pemr1,
We are sad to see you go.
I'm confident that with a bit of work we can resolve the issues you are having with flash. I'm running the same version of Firefox on the same OS as you and am having no problems with Flash - it tends to be specific other programs or settings that are causing the issues.

  • Using OSX 10.8 DW CS6 when I click "live" it says "flash plugin" "not found".

Using DW CS6 when I click "live" it says "Flash Plugin was not found. To view Flash content in Live View install the Firefox Flash Plugin from www.adobe.com."
My default browser is Chrome. DW uses Chrome as the primary browser. (FFox is secondary.)
I do have Firefox and do not have Flash on it. I open Flash content Chrome, and I installed an HTML5 video viewer add-on in FFox (but haven't tried it yet).
I also have the Dreamweaver HTML5 Video View add-on, so why am I getting that message? Furthermore, the HTML code doesn't have any Flash objects. (The code is the source HTML from www.google.com page, without any changes.)
How do I make DW display the "Live" view of the code without giving me an error? (My end goal is to find out what google does when you enter something in the search box and hit the Enter key, actually, I'd like to see why the result of the search is displayed the way it is - default should be Web view, but Image view shows instead. I want Web to show!)

"Why would anybody paste Google's source code into their own web page?" To learn from it.
I'm sorry Phil, but you can't learn much from Google's source code because search engines are dynamically programed with behind-the-scenes code and content from databases that you can't see.  You're just spinning your wheels here.  If you want to learn how to make a search engine, I'd be happy to point you to some relevant PHP & MySql tutorials.
The issue still remains that DW is giving me the error (flash plugin not found)
When DW starts acting weird, the first thing to try is Deleting Corrupted Cache in DW

  • Firefox updated to its newest version 12.0. Now my Adobe Flash plugin freezes and hangs every website when it is enabled even though it is the newest version.

Today Firefox updated to its newest version 12.0. Immediately after update, I couldn't load most websites. The web browser would just freeze. I have determined that the culprit is the Adobe Flash Plugin, however; even with the newest version of the plugin, I am still having problems. Any suggestions?

  • Firefox ESR 10.0.12 disables flash plugin - updates to the last version do not work?

Suddenly - without any actions by me - FF ESR 10.0.12 refuses to accept Adobe Flash? (System Win 7 64 Ultimate)
It started with a very annoying bar, which cost me 2 hours to deactivate, which told me to update an very old and unused Adobe Reader plugin. Then it insisted, that the Foxit PDF reader plugin was not up to date. Since I do not use it, I deactivated it too. Since I seldom use Flash, I just found out today, that youtube does not work anymore - FF insists, that my flash plugin is too old and it deactivated it.
This has cost me hours up to now and it is _exactly_ the reason why I use the ESR channel.
    What I did:
Deinstalled Adobe Flash completely (using Windows). Used the normal Firefox update, which it recommends (your flash player was deactivated, please install...). No success, it simply goes into a loop, always telling me my flash player is too old.
I also installed it directly from Adobe (the Firefox version!!), in all cases it reports version 11.5.502.104. The last version from Adobe - but it seems to be too old???
I am spitting angry now - this kind of trouble is the reason I only use ESR versions from Mozilla. I do not want your chaos troupe to play around with _my_ installation. But obviously you found ways to do so.
If this is not solved (and no, I will _not_ reinstall Firefox, I will _not_ delete my profile) in a few days, Firefox is dead for me. I am already looking to Chrome and Opera. Many friends have these browsers - I am a bit conservative, and I want my browser stable and the look an feel should be stable also. I do _not_ want a new version every two weeks, which every time costs my effort and time to configure it how I want it.
The question here is: How did you manage to disable the last version of Flash, and why? Why must I now register here and invest valuable time to get my browser to work again?? If I had done something, installed or removed something, ok. But I did not. (And yes, up to now I did update Flash and other plugins, when I was prompted to do so)
Clearly _your_ management does _not_ work: If I use the solutions which FF itself recommends, it sends me in an endless loop: Install newest Flash, sorry, Flash is outdated, install newest Flash...
Is this the 'new security'? Bah. If you did this for the 'normal user' (which you obviously do not respect anymore), you failed. And you failed completely for me: If software insists to do things 'automatically', it should at least do them reliably, _or_ it should ask. But working in the background, changing important things, reporting nothing, and then failing is exactly the reason why I disable all 'automatic' activities and want to be _asked_ before some idiotic piece of c.... deconfigures itself - and stops working...
Hints to the Troubleshooting Info below:
At this time Flash player is installed, shows in the systems software list as 'Adobe Flash Player 11 Plugin', Version 11.5.502.146. The rest are my normal plugins. Serveral changes to about:config were done by me in an effort to make FF usable again, without nagging 'info' bars...

Additional information - according to the wiki you pointed me to, it was correct to uninstall flash using Windows control panel. I am very sure that I already had the latest version installed from the beginning, because Flash player pointed me to an update on Windows start (as usual) several days ago.
The error clearly lies with FF, since despite an up to date Flash player it decided it wants it new - something to do with the blacklist? How can it tell, that its outdated, if it does not find it and not show it in the list of plugins?
    There is something fishy here...
