Flash Shockwave crash - thanks to Halofromsue for fix

I've been searching for days since updating Flash, which renders firefox unuseable. I was just about to go thru the angst of uninstalling Flash, editing the registry and downloading Flash 12.xx which was stable. Then I read a post reply by poster: Halofromsue (the best!) concerning managing plugins and set the flash player to "ask to activate". It bloody well works. I was able to run an animation again and again with no browser crash. Until a permanent patch comes through mozilla or adobe, this is a work around that will get you stable. I'm running windows 7 64-bit and have saved myself a lot of grief.
Kudos to Halofromsue!

That could certainly help with some FlashPlayer related issues.
''.... managing plugins and set the flash player to "ask to activate". ....''
It is a relatively new feature of Firefox and likely to help because FlashPlayer is not running as often in as many tabs.
* see '''http://kb.mozillazine.org/Issues_related_to_plugins#Click_to_Play_in_Mozilla_browser_versions_23_and_above '''
It certainly is not a cure all solution. I am not sure ''Halofromsue'' even got to the bottom of the specific problem causing Crashes. A ''user.js'' file was reported to exist and that may have been a symptom of further issues possibly malware related.

  • Mac OS X - Flash Player crashes in all browsers for site (bug?)

    Hello,
I just received a complaint by one of my clients that customers were no longer able to visit his site (using a Mac), as the flash player was crashing everytime the site was loaded, no matter what browser was used. I started investigating this using the latest flash-player installed (v11.1.102.64) and it seems that their is a new restriction present, a flash-movie can not be higher then +/- 4090pixels (I've been testing this while updating the code) on a Mac. When I visit the same site on Windows (flash player v11.1.102.64) it never crashes and shows the full height of the site 5276px, no matter what browser I use.
I believe this must be some bug, as the browsers I tested are the same and I can't remember havind this problem with previous versions of flash (as I would have noticed this). Could someone confirm me if this could be a bug, and it should actually be submitted somehow? Or am I overlooking something?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I'd like to investigate this for you.  Do you have a URL I can try this out on?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • My Adobe flash keeps crashing. Have tried all fixes.

My Adobe flash add on keeps crashing; I have done everything short of uninstalling Firefox. Please help.

Is this an "in plug-in" crash where you see a crash error inside a gray box in the page?
I know you said you have tried all fixes, but if you wouldn't mind ticking off the following just in case:
    (1) If you have any recorders/downloaders that interact with Flash media make sure they are as up-to-date as possible, or disable them temporarily.
    (2) Disable hardware acceleration in the Flash plugin. See this support article from Adobe: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues
    (3) Disable the Flash plugin's protected mode feature. This involves creating or editing a settings file. The following pages/posts provide different ways to do that:
    * Adobe support article under the heading "Last Resort": [http://forums.adobe.com/message/4468493#TemporaryWorkaround Adobe Forums: How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?]

Flash needs to completely unload from memory (restarting Firefox might help) before this would take effect.
    Any improvement?

  • Flash player crashing in all browsers for live video

The Flash video player is crashing all browsers when I try to watch live video (specifically, live feeds out of Egypt, notably Al Jazeera's live feed).
I'm on a MacBook Pro, OS X 10.6.6, using Safari, Firefox and Chrome browsers. In Chrome, I can hear audio for about 60 seconds - no video - and then it crashes. Safari & Firefox crash almost immediately. They all give me various messages about Flash crashing the browser.
I uninstalled Adobe Flash Player, then re-installed it, rebooted my laptop, etc. I checked all the player settings, and they're apparently set as they should be.
    Any ideas?

The same thing is happening to me in Safari, Chrome and Firefox. I cleared my cache, deleted my flash cookies, and reinstalled Flash. None of those worked to bring it back. It was working on a PC running XP yesterday.

  • Thank You Adobe for Fixing Bridge

Wow, that was a very long. painful and frustrating wait to get a version of Bridge that works again. Bridge CS3 was the worst piece of Adobe software that I have used since 94 or 95, Bridge CS4 now actually works again, hooray! Thank you Adobe!
    mark

    >Don't be absurd, Omke. It's not a free fix for CS3 users. Bridge 2.x was horribly broken and it should have been fixed for free, period.
Well Ramón, I put a smiley in that post...
But serious, I also (as you have done before) have written many times that Bridge was a free application that came with PSCS. Personal I did not have that horrible experience with it that you had. Yes, there were troubles every now and then but I solved them with the cache, plist and refresh method I often described.
I do suspect that the fact that I work on an intel Mac has also something to do with that. However, my experience with Bridge 3 is very positive and a massive improvement compared to Bridge 2.
Yes it would be nice if there had been an update but they have chosen to put al their effort in a new Bridge with some very nice improvements added to the interface (pathbar and better visible menu's to mention a view) and a much better (but not the best) cache management.
Together with Leopard 10.5.5 and CS4 I fully agree with Ann. The improvement of Bridge is (although it comes again for free with PS... :-) ) alone reason enough to upgrade.
    kind regards
    Omke

  • Flash plugin crashes frequently in Firefox for Win7

Flash plugin is constantly crashes. I've noticed this occurs on multiple PCs. The one thing I have in common with these is adblock plus.

Looks like a problem with the Flash plugin playing an audio file.
You can try to uninstall and reinstall Flash.

  • Adobe flash 11.4 keeps crashing in Firefox--I see fixes for 11. 3 but not for 11.4; HELP!

Every time I open Firefox, I get the popup message that says "Adobe flash player 11.4 r402 has stopped working." It pops up over and over and I have to cancel it just to perform a simple function in Firefox. I'm not even trying to view a video through Flash Player. And if I try to, it doesn't work, anyway.
I don't know what to do, but I've basically stopped using Firefox altogether, and that's not what you want. Please help!

First, try to update to Flash 11.5. [[Use plugins to play audio, video, games and more#w_how-to-update-plugins|How to update plugins]]. Then, if Flash still crashes, follow the directions for Flash 11.3 and see if they stop the 11.5 crashes. [[Flash 11.3 crashes]]

  • Export in Flash MX works Flash 8 crashes

I have Flash 8 professional and I admit I am very much a
    beginner at flash.
I have taken a basic flash class so I know a few things.
I got a template from template monster. I need to change some
things about the template for my employer’s needs.
My trouble comes when I export the site. The progress bar
pops up and quickly disappears. Then Flash 8 proceeds to crash.
The weird thing is that I have a friend that still has Flash
MX and I got him to try to export the site. It worked fine for him.
If I try the exact same file in Flash 8 it crashes.
    I don’t have Flash MX and I don’t think I can get
it. Does anybody have any ideas why a site that exports in Flash MX
does not export in Flash 8?
Thanks in advance for any information.

    Hi Guys!
    Greg said ...
    quote:
I wonder if Captivate 2.0 will import a Captivate 1.0 and then
export to Flash with the tweens intact? Any idea yet?]
    Hey
Rick, you only made one mistake (but for you even that is
    rare). Greg said
"with the tweens intact" ... and you read
    "... when tweens interact.".
I'm sure you'll agree that with the clarification, it's not
confusing except the extent to which Greg expects or desires that
movement of objects - including "transitions"? - in the original
Captivate project be preserved after bringing it into Flash 8. As
    far as CP1 - to - CP2 - to Flash 8 is concerned, CP1 projects seem
to me to be converted very well. And moving the (now CP2) project
conversion into Flash 8, there is little that won't come along
    nicely.
Yes, Greg, including the tweens, which are preserved for the
objects I looked at specifically ... but the right person to answer
that question might be Mark (Fletcher) instead of myself. I
imported CP movies to Flash 8 only to see if it was being done
without the previous loss of non-supported elements (etc.) but I
have no intention of actually working with my Captivate projects
inside the Flash environment - during beta, now, or ever. I just
feel that the power of Captivate is sufficient for my purposes, and
importing it to Flash 8 would accomplish little except to put the
horse in hen-house. (That makes perfect sense to me, and is greatly
humorous as well; but if you don't "get it", I don't think I can
    explain it.

    I have win7 and firefox

You are right — insofar as this forum is for the Shockwave Player, the plug-in for content created with Director.
However, many years ago Macromedia decided to call their brand new player for Flash content "Shockwave Flash", presumably in an effort to piggy-back on the mind-share that Shockwave had already gained. This has caused endless confusion ever since, especially now that the Flash Player keeps crashing. Take my advice and (search then) post on the Flash Player forum — you'll see any number of threads about crashes, presumably with some recommended fixes too

  • Adobe Flash Player and Shockwave crashing has disabled my computer

I have downloaded a second flash player and it is still the same. Firefox has been crashing daily for a few weeks. I noticed that your adblocker plus was updated 6/4. Since then I have almost no use of firefox, because the Adobe flash player 13.0.r0 and Shockwave crash notices are constantly popping up. Could that update have something to do with why the flash players are not working? Below are an example of the crash details.
Thanks for the help. I prefer your browser, but this has made it non-functioning.
In trying to fix it, a window came up that asked would I like to change it back to a previous working image, which was Windows XP. Although this computer is Windows 7, I clicked the box yes, and said I wanted it to work like Windows XP. I see in your Operating System below, that it reads Windows Xp, but this computer is actually Windows 7. I can't find that menu to change unclick and change it back, so that it is working as Windows 7.

AdBlock Plus isn't maintained or connected to Mozilla as they didn't develop it. ABP and Flash don't interfere with each other except on same cases that ABP blocks Flash content.
You can Try disabling Hardware Acceleration. <br>
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.

If that doesn't work try Try to disable Protected Mode in Flash 11.3 and above by adding the line ProtectedMode=0 to the Flash "mms.cfg" file located in one of these locations: [46]
    (Windows 32bit) C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
    (Windows 64bit) C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash
For example, on a Windows 7 64-bit system, open the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash folder, copy the file "mms.cfg" to the desktop, open it in Notepad, add a new line <code>ProtectedMode=0 </code> and then close Notepad, saving your changes. Next, go back to the C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash folder, rename the original file to "mms.cfgBAK" (to save it as a backup) and then drag and drop in the modified "mms.cfg" file from the desktop. [47] [48] [49]
Note: To re-enable Flash Protected Mode, either restore a backup of the original mms.cfg file, if you saved one, or else re-edit the mms.cfg file to remove the <code>ProtectedMode=0 l</code> line you added. Updating Flash Player or installing a newer version does not automatically re-enable Protected Mode
Flash has been a pain since day 1 and Mozilla is currently working to replace Flash with Shumway. Unfortunately it's in the Nightly channel, doesn't come activated automatically and it isn't quite ready for normal usage. I just tested Nightly yesterday with Shumway and it wouldn't play.
