Flat file length vs BI

Hello all,
I would like to ask what is the external char or numbers hav a diffrent length and data type. Can we still build it the way BI sees it ror do we need to build it the way the external file is giving it to us.
Ex: my external file gives me Actual amount as numeric whereas in BI it should be Keyfigure CURR and will have CUKY and example g/l account is more like a char 10 but external file has it as char 30.How should that be tackled.
thanks

Thanks Subray,
I would like to ask you one more thing please regarding the datein my flat file in the external file the date is 2/1/2008 but when i try to do a preview i see ' 08.20.2/1/' this is for the Internal format. If i try the External format i get ' 2/1/2008 does not match the user-dependent date format --> long text'.
What i did was i chnaged the date format to german style in excel which is 1.2.2008 and then saw it in external format and i see  01.02.2008, according to the US date this is 2nd of January instead of 1st of Feb .Is there any way i can manupilate that or maybe write a code in the FF datasource.
please help.

  • Transferring data to a flat file with a length greater than 255 bytes??

Is there a way to do this?  At the end of the month, my dataset will reach a length of anywhere between 271 and 335.  Even though I have the transfer field setup with a length of 512, I am only getting 255 characters worth of data when I pull the flat file in from the server.
Has anyone discovered a way to handle this?  I cannot break the record up into blocks of 255, the Transfer has to be able to handle something greater than a length of 255.
    Many Thanks!

My input is a xml file and i want the output as a flat file. I am successful in converting the xml into flat file... But the main problem is, i am unable to insert spaces in between my fields in the flat file.
The data in the flat file comes without spaces... Any suggestions on writing the schema...

  • Send a flat file with fixed lengths to XI 3.0 using a Central File Adapter?

    Hello,
I'm wondering if someone have experience setting up conversion for different record structures. The example shown,
    /people/michal.krawczyk2/blog/2004/12/15/how-to-send-a-flat-file-with-fixed-lengths-to-xi-30-using-a-central-file-adapter,
(in a greate way) only picture one kind of structure.
How should it be done if the file would contain
    10Mat1
    20100PCS
The first record structure has columns
    ID(2),Material(10)
The second redcord structure has columns
    ID(2),Quantity(3), Unit of messure (3)

  • How to create Fixed Length Flat File from Open Hub in BI 7.0

My requirement is to produce a Fixed length Flat file by Open Hub destination. My Open Hub has four fields. Now the requirement is to create another extra field in Open Hub which will contain all of the four fields value. In addition to that the fields should be fixed length that means if for any field no value is there and the field length/type is CHAR4 then 4 spaces should be there as the field value. SO, basically the Open Hub output will be single field which will contain information of four fields.
How to get this using End Routine of Transformation (from DSO to Open Hub) ?

    Hi,
You can map the four input fields to the new field in the Open Hub, and change rule type to "Routine".
For example, if your source fields are called "first", "second", "third" and "forth", the ABAP routine could be similar to:
    DATA: l_t_1  TYPE C LENGTH 4,
          l_t_2  TYPE C LENGTH 4,
          l_t_3  TYPE C LENGTH 4,
          l_t_4  TYPE C LENGTH 4.
    IF source_fields-first IS INITIAL.
      l_t_1 = '    '.
    else.
      MOVE source_fields-first TO l_t_1.
    endif.
    IF source_fields-second IS INITIAL.
      l_t_2 = '    '.
    else.
      MOVE source_fields-second TO l_t_2.
    endif.
    IF source_fields-third IS INITIAL.
      l_t_3 = '    '.
    else.
      MOVE source_fields-third TO l_t_3.
    endif.
    IF source_fields-forth IS INITIAL.
      l_t_4 = '    '.
    else.
      MOVE source_fields-forth TO l_t_4.
    endif.
    CONCATENATE l_t_1 l_t_2 l_t_3 l_t_4 into result.
In the example, the program uses four blank spaces if any of the fields has no value.
Additionally, if non-initial values in input fields could be shorter than 4 characters (if the input fields have no fixed length), you could use STRLEN to evaluate if it is necessary to add blank spaces to complete the fixed length of 4.
    I hope this helps you.

    Maximiliano

  • Conversion of fixed length flat files to oracle table

    hello friends
Please help me getting the code for conversion of fixed length flat files to oracle table
Should the tables be pre-defined ?????
In this case the de-limiters are variable length spaces and not commas. Please help me with the same
    Regards,
    -Mahesh

You can use SQL*Loader to load fixed-width files into Oracle. Instructions on writing appropriate control files are in the Oracle Utilities manual
    http://download-west.oracle.com/docs/cd/B10501_01/server.920/a96652/ch03.htm#1004687
You can also use external tables, assuming you're using 9i or later (the syntax for external table definitions is nearly identical to the syntax for SQL*Loader control files).
You'll need to create a table definition in Oracle. You can either create a "normal" table and use SQL*Loader to populate it or you can create an external table definition.

  • Interface output file : tab limited vs flat file with fixed length

    hey guys,
any idea on difference b/w to file type : flat file with fixed length or tab limited file
    thanks

    Tab Delimited:
Two Field are seperated by a TAB
    eg. SANJAY    SINGH
First field is First Name and Second is Sir Name.
Nth field will be after N -1 tab
    Fixed Length:
Every field has a fixed starting position and length
    eg. SANJAY     SINGH
Here First field start from Position 1 and has lenght 10 and 2nd field start from 11th postion and has lenght 10.
Fixed Length -> The lenght of each field is fixed, while in tab delimited the lenght of field is not fixed but we know it ends when the Seperatot (Tab) is encountered.

  • Loading a field of length( 60 and up to 2048) from flat file to BW.

    Hello,
Can you please suggests ways by which we can load a field in flat file which is of length greater than 60 and up to 2048 digits to BW.
    Facts:
We cannot have more than 59 length digits in an infoobject
    Observations:
The idea of using multiple infoobject,ie for 2048 max length it will be 35 infoobjects is not acceptable by my client.
So, can anyone suggests other ways in BW3.5 for loading a text of length up to 2048 from flat file to BW.

    Hi,
If you have source field DD/MM/YYYY format, please try this code in the field routine.
    Data : lv_date(8) type C.
    lv_date0(4) = <Source Field Name>6(4).
    lv_date4(2) = <Source Field Name>3(2).
    lv_date6(2) = <Source Field Name>0(2).
    RESULT = LV_DATE.
    Thanks,
    Saru

  • Fixed Length Flat File

I am working on creating a fixed length flat file with data from multiple files.
This flat file will have 4 different record formats.
My idea is to create a table for each one of these record formats, populate it in my PL/SQL program and utilize the [DUMP_CSV|http://asktom.oracle.com/pls/asktom/f?p=100:11:0::::P11_QUESTION_ID:95212348059] procedure to then select from each of these tables. My idea is that if the record format changes it could be as simple as altering the table, and recompiling the program. Suggestions/comments on my approach?
    Thanks

Use External Tables. By that you can even skip the PL/SQL code that you may need to write if you use normal table to load them.

  • Reject columns which exceed a particular length during OWB flat file import

    Hi,
I have a file in csv format. This file has a lot of columns out of which i need to use only a few. I created a file in OWB using the given csv file using the file import wizard. I am using this file to create an external table.
The import is working fine, But the problem is that certain columns (which are not required to be processed) have very huge data. This is leading to rejection of certain rows (when i deploy the external table) which have valid data for the required columns, but too huge data was columns which i do not need.
But these rows must not be rejected.
I wanted to know if there any way by which we can truncate/ insert null in these unwanted columns (either during flat file import / or during creation of external table), so that the row is taken in partially(with the wanted columns)?
    Thanks a lot!
    NS

    Hi Julie,
As Jim posted, you could try a RAW file instead of a CSV file. In SSIS, the Raw File destination writes raw data to a file. Because the format of the data is native to the destination, the data requires no translation and little parsing. So does the Raw
File source. Besides, the Raw File destination/source can improve the package performance because they write data more quickly than other destinations such as the Flat File, the OLE DB, and Recordset destinations.

  • Require script to load fixed  length flat file

    Hi
Can anyone provide me a script to load a flat file into database ? A sample script would be ok

You can use SQL*Loader to do this, or external tables in 9i or higher. These methods are well-documented in the Utilities Guide.

    Hi guys,
after i upload data from a flat file to the hierarchy, i get a error message "Please select a valid info object" am loading data using PSA, having activated all external chars still get the problem..some help on this please..
    regards
    Sri

there is o relation of infoobject name in flat file and infoobjet name at BW side.
please check with the object in the BW and their lengths and type of the object and check your flat file weather u have the same type there,
now check the sequence of the objects in the transfer rules  and activate them.
    there u go.
