Flex Builder 3 Backwards Compatibility
Hello,
I was wondering which versions of Flash are Flex 3 and Flex
Builder 3 compatible with. The clients I'm building the Flex app
for are still on 9.0.16.0, on an isolated network, and may be
awhile till they upgrade. Is FB3 compatible with that version, or
is there a compiler option to make it so? I noticed for instance
that a simple ComboBox wouldn't work in that version - it caused
the Flash page not to completely load. It did work with a later
version of flash, so I suspected it is a compatibility issue.
Thanks,
Dan
Flex 3 requires player 9.0.115. But, in FB3 you can set the
compatibility version so you can compile against the Flex 2 SDK
which can be run by earlier versions of the player.
To do this select Project > Properties > Flex Compiler.
Select "Use a Specific SDK" and then select Flex 2.0.1 Hotfix
from the drop down.

Using Flex 3D Charts in Flex Builder 3
Hi all,
has anyone successfully used the Flex 3D Charts library in FlexBuilder 3?
The component is at
http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/exchange/index.cfm?event=extensionDetail&loc=en_us&extid=1047 990
and having trawled back there was some chatter about the library back in 2007, but few people seemed to have got it to work.
I can draw a blank chart area (ie carefully not adding a data series to the chart) but as soon as a series is added I get an error starting
Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
at com.adobe.flex.extras.charts.series::Column3DSeries/describeData()[C:\perforce\depot\flex \components\FlexComponents\com\adobe\flex\extras\charts\series\Column3DSeries.as:870]
with a whole load of stack trace following on. This happens whether I use MXML or create at runtime in an AS class.
I notice that the library only claims compatribility with FB 2.0 but had hoped there would be backwards compatibility.
Thanks,
RichardWe have added 3d versions of the charts to our Spark based Flex charting framework : http://blog.flexicious.com/post/Flexicious-30-Release-Flex-Spark-Charts-with-Skinning-Supp ort.aspx

Because design view is not available in flash builder than what is the use of extension builder in UI designing now we have to do design UI with xml which is very time consuming and boring if there is any replacemnt for it than please help me .1 more thing i want to know is that when i make new default project in extension builder(flash builder 4.6) than it also not able to load design mode errror is
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.6\eclipse\plugins\com.adobe.cside.libsinstaller_2.0.0.4-33034\archive\cslibs\2.0\4.5\re lease\apedelta.swc- not respondingSWC file failed to load. Any component dependent on this SWC file will not be displayed in the Design Mode. The SWC may have failed to load because of:
* Incompatible definitions caused by usage of a different SDK version
* Missing referred class definitionsI have researched this quite considerably and my understanding is that Adobe have no intention of supporting Design View any more for Extension Builder. In my opinion a very disappointing decision and one that is hard to comprehend.
The best workaround I can find is to create the majority of your design in a parallel, non Extension Builder, project and then convert/import your design into your Extension. This is by no means as satisfactory as having Design View for the Extension you are writing but it is better than simply creating your layout by guess work/trial and error.
Although this has not been announced by Adobe, I have a suspicion that the reason they have decided not to put any further resources into fixing Design View is that Extension Builder as we know it is going to be abandoned soon, probably replaced with an HTML5/JavaScript method of building extensions. My concern with this is that, other than wanting reassurances that there will be backward compatibility support for old extensions, There will not be a way of compiling an extension in a way that prevents people from seeing your code.
This is all speculation and I guess we will have to wait and see what happens. Hope this has helped. -
Anyone been able to install Flex Builder 2 on Vista?
I am trying to figure out if there is a way to get Flex
Builder 2 to install
on Vista RTM yet. I can get Flex Builder 2.0 installed but
when I try to
perform the 2.0.1 update I get an error from the Install
Anywhere
application that I need to "select another location to
extract the installer
to" but no matter where I install it or if I try to run it
from the temp
folder as the error is displayed it doesn't work.
I know this is only like the 2nd day or so Vista has been
available to the
public but I am just wondering if anyone has had any luck so
far with
perhaps a beta or the business release?
Thanks,
-DanIn case anyone else is having this trouble I found out a way
that I think is
able to update Flex Builder to 2.0.1. If you download the
updater on an XP
machine then use WinRAR to extract the files in the .exe you
should be able
to move that whole folder onto the Vista machine then run the
FlexBuilder2_Updater.exe file from there without any problems
or errors (I
set that to have admin and run in XP SP2 compatibility just
to make sure).
So far it seems to be working fine.

Issues migrating from Flex Builder 3 to Flash Builder 4.5
Migrating from Flex Builder 3 (SDK 3.5) to Flash Builder 4.5 (SDK 4.5). Using Flex 3 compatibility mode. Flash Player 10.2. MX only components set.
Issue 1. A DataGridColumn error per: Description Resource Path Location Type
Declaration of style 'direction' conflicts with previous declaration in C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe Flash Builder 4.5\sdks\4.5.0\frameworks\libs\mx\mx.swc(mx.controls.dataGridClasses:DataGridColumn). SPT_GUI Unknown Flex Problem
Issue 2. Using Cairngorm 2. Have a class 'Bindable] public class GuiModel implements ModelLocator'. Now getInstance() is not defined per: private var model : GuiModel = GuiModel .getInstance(). Does Cairngorm 3 have to be used with Flash Builder 4.5?
What has to be done to resolve these issues?Issue 2: Have you defined the static variable to hold the instance of the model locator? Also, have you defined a static method to return the model locator's instance?

I really need some help on this. Flex builder will not start.
When I try to run it, I get the error: An error has occured. See
the log file: <has a location to file>.
When I open the file, I get an error log. I will post it to
the end of this message.
So far, I have unisntalled/reinstalled Flex several times. I
have uninstalled Java, and reinstalled Java. I have uninstalled
Flex, removed ALL directories I could find (under /program files/
as well as /documents), run cclean to clear out registry entries,
as well as going through the entries one at a time. I then
rebooted, and reinstalled. I have also downloaded the original
install file 3 times now.
One oddity of my install, is that I am running on a
re-directed desktop, so my /documents/flex builder 3/ directory is
out on the network, but acts like it is locally mapped. I HAVE
logged on my system's local account, which doesn't have a
redirected desktop. This error occurs on both accounts.
I am the administrator of this box, and all permissinos are
run as an administrator. I am running Vista Business, and have run
this both with user access control on and off. I have also tried
running it in compatibility mode for Win XP SP2. While installing
it seems to fail on the Cold Fusion plugin, but it continues to
install, and tells me it installed fine. I am honestly at my wit's
end on this one.

org.eclipse.pde.ui_[3.2.0,4.0.0).Ok, this has FINALLY been fixed. There seems to be an issue
with having your documents stored remotely. My documents folder,
instead of being on my C: drive, has been redirected to the server,
so the location is: \\server\share\username\documents\etc
To fix this, I uninstalled Flex Builder 3, then deleted that
directory i makes under documents. I then logged off my account,
and logged on as the local administrator. I installed as the local
administrator which does not have a redirected desktop nor
redirected documents folder. It installed fine. I logged off the
local admin account, and logged in as my account, and was able to
fire up Flex Builder 3. Though, it STILL created it's own "copy" of
Documents on the network drive. So, the directory structure is
\\server\share\userID\Documents, the problem, is that there are TWO
"Documents" directories there. If you go to properties, windows
still recognized the old one, as "My Documents" even though it is
redirected as the file, Documents. The new folder, is also called
Documents.
Odd behavior. Just hope this helps someone else, in the
future. -
Hi,
I'm working on an application which uses old Flex 3.4 (used for Adobe LiveCycle). This SDK already contains fiber.swc and playerfds.swc so I removed them from Flex Build Path. But if I reopen the project, the removed lines are there again.
So whats wrong? Bug? This is a serious issue for me since some classes from newer fiber.swc is not backwards compatible to version 3.4.
I'm using Flash Builder Premium 4.7. It would be great if I could solve that because I have to remove these paths everytime I open the project.
cu FlohFew things I've discovered that might be able to help you.
Make sure you download both the newest version of the playerglobal.swc (for flash player 10.1), and replace it either in your SDK files, or have it in a library (in Flex 3 you need to disable the older playerglobal, I'm not sure about FB 4)
Use the newest OSMF.swc available from the OSMF downloads page.
Make sure you have the compile settings for OSMF set up in your compile line (mangle for FB4 if needed):-define CONFIG::LOGGING false -define CONFIG::DEBUG false -define CONFIG::FLASH_10_1 true
I've been able to compile flex projects using OSMF doing these steps.
Hope this helps.

Forms and Reports - Backward Compatibility
Is it possible to load a .fmb file created using Developer/2000
Form Builder for Windows 95 (V5.0) and then convert it so that
it can be loaded into Forms Developer V 4.5 (16 bit). The same
applies to backward compatibility of different versions of
Oracle reports.
A number of students in my 4GL Programming class have access to
more recent versions of Oracle products then those installed at
my College, and would like to develop assignments, etc, on both
platforms.

Backward Compatability solaris 10 to Solaris 9
I am trying to mix
executables compiled on Solaris 10 with C++ compiler 5.8
with shared libraries compiled on Solaris 9.
On solaris 9 it says libm.so.2 file not found.
what may be the solution to run the executable from solaris 10 to solaris 9Running binaries built in Solaris 10 platform, on Solaris 9 or earlier versions, is not "backward" compatibility. It is the other way round ie., running executables built on earlier versions of Solaris, on Solaris 10.
I believe libm.so.2 was introduced in Solaris 10; and is not available for Solaris 9. If you want to run your executable on both 9 & 10, you have to build it on Solaris 9, but definitely not on 10. -
Backward compatibility of MS Flash object in Windows 8
I have a case opened with Microsoft from Pfizer, Inc and need a case open with Adobe so that the MS engineers can communicate with Adobe within non-disclosure constraints.
What MS needs from Adobe are debugging information the don't have in order to resolve the issue in their Win8 Flash object (15x). MS will need to share with Adobe details and data that belong to Pfizer hence need to open that channel for those purposes and for MS to request technical information from Adobe.
My MS case number is 114111712050982 so that you have that information and can share email addresses and phone numbers privately with Flash technical support.
I have picked the best fit I could find for a communityAs a general rule, we'd highly recommend that everyone move from fscommand to ExternalInterface. It's a superior replacement and eliminates some of the weird quirks that fscommand has. In your situation, changes to IE11 caused backwards compatibility problems with fscommand, but ExternalInterface is unaffected. We have some work in the pipeline to address the issue on IE11, but it has the potential to break existing content on configs that currently work, so we're trying to be really methodical about providing public pre-releases and soliciting feedback. In 2014, the only high-traffic content that really uses fscommand are old enterprise applications, so it's hard for us to collect feedback or gauge the impact directly by looking at popular sites.
We just handed a build off with the proposed fscommand changes to Microsoft for inclusion in the next Windows 10 technical preview. We were soliciting feedback on any related fallout for Windows 7 users on our beta channel (http://www.adobe.com/go/flashplayerbeta); however, there's not a good way to provide a beta build for Windows 8 since Flash Player is a built-in component of IE. We're working with Microsoft to establish a beta program for Flash Player in IE on Win8+. If you have access to the Win10 Technical Preview builds, we'd encourage you to test any of your legacy systems that require Flash and give us feedback once the next update is available.
The fact that introducing a proxy solves the problem intermittently is interesting. I guess it could be some internal timing, or it might be that the proxy is masking a cross-domain policy issue or an SSL negotiation problem. Have you guys tried with a Debugger version of Flash Player? You might get some useful feedback, particularly if it's a policy file thing.
Adobe Flash Player - Downloads
Configure the debugger version of Flash Player
You can turn on policy file logging by adding these to your mm.cfg. They'll get logged to flashlog.txt:
PolicyFileLog=1 # Enables policy file logging
PolicyFileLogAppend=1 # Optional; do not clear log at startup -
Upgrade from Flex Builder 3.1 to Flash Builder 4.5
I have several project in Flex Builder 3.1 now.
What is the best way to move them in Flash Builder 4.5? Can I just use the workspace from Flex Builder 3.1 in Flash Builder 4.5?
Is Flex 4.5 backward compatible at API level? You should always have separate workspaces for separate versions of Flash Builder.
Flex 3 and Flex 4 have some large differences. You will probably want to spend some time reading about migrating by searching on Google. Here is a good place to start: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/articles/flex3and4_differences.html -
Flex builder 4.0 ( mx:Script )
Hello Gurus,
We downloaded Flex builder 4.0 trial version for 60 days to learn Flash Island on webdynpro.
Now, we are facing a small problem that <mx:Script> tag is not working. Could be a missing library file...
Please help to resolve my problem.
Regards,
Abhishek.Hi Abhishek,
It's may not be the case of any missing file.
Flex 3 Application codes may not be getting compiled as there are some differences in tag declarations and classes.
You can test any sample application which you can easily get from Tour de Flex examples to test Flash island in WD.
Note that you also need WDIslandLibrary 'SWC' file for same version compatibility.
If you want to use your own application then refer following links which will help you to understand the transition of Flex 3 applications into Flex 4.

No Backward compatability?
I just got burned , I updated to Muse 2014 on my work computer, did an update to my website, only to discover that my home pc (where I do a majority of my personal work) can't use the new version. Now my website is in limbo because I can't edit it from home anymore. Thanks for that, Adobe.
Maker actually has developed os x drivers but only as a cursor- so the only thing I can do with this thing at the moment is thse same as my glide point, only now I get to use a stylus. The additional drivers I found are for a similar product- I bet the same product made for someone else- but they match the software that I have for my pc. So I know that they are available but not sure what would happen if I installed them. I would hate to be the person that forces a reinstall of a harddrive and all the software that entails. IT would not be happy.
Don't take this personally, however, I am not happy with the mac -for what I need. It does not matter that it isa great graphics machine, I do hardly anything with pictures or movies or music with the computer. I do not and have never played games - that is what sony and nintendo and xbox are for. I teach physics and have been trying since August to adopt already available things, i.e java applet, a sql gradebook database, several other pieces of software, now this tablet as the final to the mac environment- most without success. Part of this is the lack of familiarity with the system., but part is apple's fault. There seems to be a lack of backward compatibility for software such that I need to run classic (a second operating system) to run some of the teaching software I use. How is this better that just one os that is backward compatible?
These are not complaint but the facts of my experience with mac. I have to use it for work- we are the only building in the system that is mac so I need to use it unless I purchase my own laptop and have IT configure it for me for the school stuff.
Thanks for your ear - well eyes. -
