Flex SDK incorrectly handling projection center

I'm not sure if anyone else is noticing this, but I've recently had trouble with the projection center of my Flex projects. According to the documentation - the default projection center is supposed to be the center of the stage. However, my flex apps by default are using (0,0) as the projection center. I'm having to manually set it as the center using:
var per:PerspectiveProjection = new PerspectiveProjection();
var pt:Point = new Point(this.stage.width/2,this.stage.height/2);
per.projectionCenter = pt;
this.transform.perspectiveProjection = per;
This works, but I'm not sure why it's not this way by default - this is not a problem using Flash CS4, only using the flex sdk. What's weird for me, is I don't remember this being an issue in the past - I'm running on a new computer, with new installs of both Flex Builder 3 and Flash Builder 4 (Both exhibit this behavior along with SDK 3.2, 3.3, and 3.4)
I feel like I must be missing something easy here - any ideas?

You don't need to upgrade your software.  But if you're struggling with Spry, IMO you should cut your losses and switch to something better for the longrun.
If you have a budget to work with, I highly recommend Project Seven's Pop-Menu Magic 3.  It's easy to use in DW CS4, 5, 6 or CC.  More importantly, it's bullet proof and works in all devices.
Pop-Menu  Magic3 by PVII (commercial DW extension)

If you don't have a budget to work with, you can roll your own menus with jQuery plugins.  A bit more effort on your part, but they perform better than Spry.

  • Removal of Cairngorm 2 from a Flex SDK 3.4 project?

    Hello,
    I am looking into how practical it is to remove the Cairngorm 2 MVC from my project.  It is currently using Flex SDK 3.4, but I wish to move it to Flex 4, and it seems like Cairngorm 2 is incompatiable.  Cairngorm 3 is a totally different beast, so it's not as easy as just upgrading to that (I wish it was).
    My main difficulties lie in replacing some of the core functionalities Cairngorm has provided for this project including:
    com.adobe.cairngorm.control.CairngormEvent;
    com.adobe.cairngorm.vo.IValueObject;
    com.adobe.cairngorm.model.IModelLocator;
    Does anyone have experience with "removing" or "substituting" those Cairngorm elements with something native to Flex, or other MVCs such as Parsley?  I have not used Parsley so I'm unsure if it would help in this case or not.
    I realize this is a complicated question to ask here, but I just wanted to know if anyone had experience or a recommendation as to how to go about getting Cairngorm 2 removed from my application, short of re-writing the entire architecture of the application.  Thanks.

    OK, in case anyone else happens to stumble upon this, here is some of the progress I've been making on this as I have time.  I've found an easy fix for 2 of the 3 issues:
    com.adobe.cairngorm.vo.IValueObject;
    com.adobe.cairngorm.model.IModelLocator;
    Both of these classes are quite frankly empty classes, almost nothing in them at all.  I was therefore able to create my own versions of these clases, based on what I saw here:
    http://www.google.com/codesearch#l8D5yY3i8ho/trunk/code/src/com/adobe/cairngorm/vo/IValueO bject.as
    So, I just added a trimmed down version of those empty classes into a util folder in my classes, and changed the reference to that and bam, it works with no reference to cairngorm!!  I was floored by how simple that was for the IValueObject and the IModelLocator.  They all still work as expected and they're used all over the place.
    The other issue however, the CairngormEvent is proving to be more troublesome, especially since I have a multitude of Events and Services tied into a cairngorm FrontController, and so I have a business folder chuck full of a lot of dependent delegates, other related folders with commands, and events.  There are also CallBack events, etc.  It's a big mess, and so I'm still working on that, will probably have to create an alternate dispatch system for the web service events and write in custom stuff for it.  I did find this of great use when researching different ways to make web service calls through Flex without using MXML:  http://blogs.4point.com/brad.white/2008/12/4-ways-to-invoke-a-webservice-in-flex-with-mxml -and-actionscript.html
    So, hopefully that new info helps someone else stuck in this situation.

    Status Update - don't know if this is a bug, design flaw, install problem or my misunderstanding.
    I got it to work by first changing my Flex library to 4.5.0 - still didn't work with current
    app and update mxml files using "2.6" for their namespace versions. But I did at least
    get the popup error number 16815 - indicating an error in the update version namespace.
    By leaving my application namespace version at "2.6" and changing the update version to "2.5" ... bingo!
    I got my new update installed autiomatically.
    Is this how it's supposed to work - or are my runtimes mixed up?
    Will this work the same using the Flex 4.5.1 SDK? I'll find out shortly
    Hope this helps others.

    Flex SDK Bug Fixes
    SDK-19772 Initially invisible graphic element can not be made visible
    When visible is false, we were both setting the displayObject invisible and not drawing the graphics. When visible was then set to true, we changed the displayObject visibility, but didn't draw the graphics. The fix is to always draw the graphics when we are not sharing our displayObject. This way we simply toggle visibility on the displayObject on/off, instead of having to perform a redraw.
    SDK-19581 BitmapFill incorrectly handle source property
    Updated code to match code in BitmapGraphic. If the source is a class, we still need to check the type of the newly instantiated instance of that class.
    SDK-19085 unexpected behaviour when setting scaleX < 3 on a LinearGradient
    Internally, we no longer allow scaleX to be less than 2. Visually, this shouldn't have much impact.

    Added in support to take a bitmap snapshot of a 3D transformed GraphicElement.
    Added a flag to getBitmapData to return a bitmap of the target either in the local or global coordinate space.
    Also, fixed a bug in the bitmap snapshot logic for a 2D GraphicElement that was sharing its displayObject.
    Note that the 3D snapshot isn't accurate if you have set maintainProjectionCenter on an ancestor. There are also limitations when rotation is applied. In addition, getting a local 3D snapshot isn't too accurate once you start scaling ancestors.

    Log Message:
    Flex SDK Bug Fix - Added scaleGrid support to BitmapGraphic
    SDK-17289 - BitmapGraphic source embed does not respect scale9 grid when scaling
    BitmapGraphic will use the scaleGrid properties defined on its embedded source. Since the Player doesn't support scaleGrid on bitmaps, we have to slice the bitmap into nine sections and then scale/translate each section. We create two arrays of points along the grid. These are used to define the topLeft and bottomRight corners of the section. Based on the internal scaleFactor and which section we are in, we draw a scaled and translated section according to the scaleGrid rules.
    More details:
    - Changed BitmapGraphic to no longer use the BitmapFill to draw. Instead, BitmapGraphic performs the drawing code itself.
    - When the source is set, check if it has scaleGrid properties and store these in internal variable
    - Cache the creation of the 16 grid points array. Flush the cache if the source or dimensions have changed
    - To see this behavior in action, set width/height to different values than the source's natural dimensions and set resizeMode = "scale"

  • [svn] 4600: Flex SDK - Move style metadata from base class down to component classes

    Author: [email protected]

    Log Message:
    Flex SDK - Move style metadata from base class down to component classes
    Previously, all spark and text styles were defined on FxComponent even though not every component supports all of those styles. So I have moved each style to the top-most base class where the style will apply to all descendant classes of that base class.
    This is the set of styles that were added to the various classes:
    baseColor
    color
    focusColor
    symbolColor
    selectionColor
    contentBackgroundColor
    rollOverColor
    alternatingItemColors
    basic text styles
    advanced text styles
    Here are some details about the implementation:
    - baseColor was added to FxComponent because every component and container supports it
    - FxContainer and GroupBase are containers, so their children can potentially support any of the styles. Thus the container classes support all of the styles indirectly.
    - FxDataContainer doesn't support all of the styles because its subclasses (FxButtonBar, FxList) don't support all styles.
    - FxList supports selectionColor, but not inactiveSelectionColor or unfocusedSelectionColor. All other components that support selectionColor, support the other two styles, and thus include styles/metadata/SelectionFormatTextStyles.as
    - GroupBase contains the style declarations that have the full ASDoc. All other declarations use the @copy keyword to reference the asdoc from GroupBase.
    QE Notes: Update tests to remove references to styles that are no longer allowed on various components/FxButton.as

    Gordon, it looks like its been a while since you made this post.  Not sure how valid it is now...   I am particularly interested in the LigatureLevel.NONE value.  It seems that it is no longer supported.
    How do I turn of ligatures in the font rendering?
    My flex project involves trying to match the font rendering of Apache's Batik rendering of SVG and ligatures have been turned off in that codebase.  Is there any way (even roundabout) to turn ligatures off in flash?
    Thanks,

  • The selected Flex SDK does not support building mobile projects

    I am unable to create a new Actionscript Mobile project.  The new project dialogue gives the error: "The selected Flex SDK does not support building mobile projects."  I tried seting the default Flec SDK both to the SDK included with Flash Builder 4.7, and also to a version of the 4.6.0 SDK (build 23201) with AIR 3.3 SDK overlayed on it, which already existed on my computer.  Both resulted in the same error.  Any ideas?

    Hi ,
    Actionscript Mobile projects use AIR SDK by default in Flash Builder 4.7 . Flex SDK won't be used for Actionscript projects.
    Could you please try creating an Actionscript project in fresh workspace and let me know if the issue still exists.
    Also attach screenshot and error log if any.

  • Using Eclipse project definitions to build the Flex SDK

    It would be great if someone from Adobe could post on the recommended usage of the Eclipse project definitions in the development/eclipse/ subdirectory of the 3.0.x trunk distribution. I would like to debug some compiler modifications that I am working on.
    I saw Peter Farland demo this setup at 360Flex, but was unable to capture all the details of the Eclipse configuration that he discussed in his talk.
    thanks!

    If you go to the framework project’s properties, there is a section called Flex Library Compiler, you want to use a specific flex sdk (add a new sdk which points to the trunk, and use that) — you are probably building /against/ the wrong sdk, right code, wrong compiler.

    Try changing the sdk for the framework lib project to trunk (you'll need to add a new flex sdk, name it whatever you want) -- it's in the project properties. It's using the wrong compiler.

I would probably prefer to work on the 3.0.x branch/tag as I hope to submit a patch or two but saw Joe mention that the project defs only existed in the trunk.
    Searching Google for the oem error turns up lots of links about projects that had assets deleted and the build got confused but following the instructions on how to fix proved unsuccessful.
    Thanks,
    Ben

    I always forget what that error means when it comes up -- though it's been ages since I've seen it last, literally.
    Joe: Since you mention Java 1.5, I'm guessing the errors are in the asdoc package? Those should be turned off (read: turned into a warning) -- Eclipse is a little too persnickety about that particular error. There's a preference for this in the Java section under warnings and errors. It's turned off in the trunk dev projects. Otherwise, you should be able to run the compiler directly with no problems (okay, one more caveat: there's a class loader issue with the OEM, fixed in trunk if you look for my Java 1.5 checkin).
    Ben: What is your setup? What are you building (Ryan mentions trunk, Joe mentions 30x), which Eclipse, which dev projects, did you build the sdk from the commandline first, etc.?

    Jono

  • How to compile flex builder project from flex sdk?

    I built one flex project in flex builder, and need to change and maintain in an flex SDK environment.
    I am wondering whether there is any tools in flex sdk to do so.
    Thanks

    You could use Ant tasks

  • Flex SDK and online emulation coding, your opinion on my project

    Hi to everybody,
    I'm an actionscript developer and I've started a project 2 years ago.
    Since I wanted to test dynamic bitmap generation, I started this path by coding a graphic driver that emulates some old graphic chip used in consoles.
    I could see it can work very well in AS3, so thanks to Flex SDK and FDT I have coded some more complex emulators.
    Llittle by little I've built some classes that emulate some more chips such as SN76489, AY-3-8910, Konami SCC, Namco, TMS9918/TMS9928 and other graphic drivers for arcade emulation.
    There are few project around the web on this subject, some of them such as fMAME are done thanks to Alchemy but, mine is pure AS3 with a lot of otimization, simple code, byte code friendly structures and a lot of caching methods.
    The audio has to be fixed, I still haven't find a good caching way to play the audio generated by emulated sound chips with the streaming feature of flash player. To increase quality and fidelity, I need to rise the buffer, but the delay between a graphic event and its corresponding sound rises too...
    Unfortunately on some old PC and some netbook they are a little slow because they use a lot of CPU and memory. I will be very glad if you can tell me your opinin about this work and eventually your PC configuration you are playing with.
    These are the four consoles/computer I've emulated:
    SEGA SC-3000/SG-1000: http://www.play-sc-3000.com
    SEGA Master System: http://www.digimorf.com/ASms
    MSX 1: http://www.digimorf.com/ASReplay_MSX
    CBS ColecoVision: http://www.digimorf.com/fcv
    And these are some MAME concept based arcade games. To play with these ones you need to use te same control keys of MAME:
    - Click on monitor to focus flash player
    - 5 or 6: Insert Coin
    - 1 or 2: no. of player to start
    - Arrow keys: move
    - X, C: fire buttons 1, 2

    http://www.digimorf.com/FlaME/pacman3D.htm - This uses Away3d for the 3d interactive cabinet, you can rotate and play snce the emulator itself is mapped on the screen object.

    http://www.digimorf.com/FlaME/solomon.htm
    Hope you enjoy them!

    You can set the maximum number of connections by using:
    ServerSocket server = new ServerSocket( port, backlog );
    Where backlog is the number of connections at any one time. I'm not sure - but I'm guessing that the physical limit is dictated by your hardware. Once you queue is full of connections, you are right - any further connections are refused. The default number of connections is 50.

  • Embed OTF Font as CFF in Pure Actionscript Project using Flex SDK 4.0

    I want to apply the method explained here: http://www.insideria.com/2009/03/flash-text-engine.html using only the Flex SDK 4 (not using FlashBuilder)
    Specifically:
    Embedding fonts can be tricky. In Flex, embed the font and store it
    using DefineFont4 and font subsetting currently only supported by Gumbo.
    A future version of Flash will support it but in the meantime, a Gumbo
    SWC with the embedded font must be created then adding to your Flash CS4
    project.
    The following is the method I am using to embed the fonts.
    public class Main extends Sprite {
         [Embed(source="../assets/GE Thameen DemiBold.otf",
                                  fontFamily = "GE Thameen",
                                  fontWeight = "bold",
                                  mimeType = "application/x-font",
                                  embedAsCFF = "true"
         private const GEThameen:Class;
    The following command line was assimilated after solving the output error messages using google and a little looking into how FlashDevelop works..
    mxmlc Main.as -load-config config.xml -managers flash.fonts.AFEFontManager
    The output SWF is not working as supposed, and the file size (20KB) does not seem to account for the embedded font. PS: When the font embedding is bypassed, and a device font is used for the text engine classes, the file works perfectly.
    The contents of config.xml are as the following:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <!--This Adobe Flex compiler configuration file was generated by a tool.-->
    <!--Any modifications you make may be lost.-->
    <flex-config>
      <target-player>10.0.0</target-player>
      <compiler>
        <source-path append="true">
          <path-element>E:\actionscript</path-element>
        </source-path>
        <external-library-path>
            <path-element>C:\bin\flex_sdk_4\frameworks\libs\player\10.0\playerglobal.swc</path-element>
            <path-element>C:\bin\flex_sdk_4\frameworks\libs\flex.swc</path-element>
        </external-library-path>
      </compiler>
      <file-specs>
      </file-specs>
      <default-background-color>#FFFFFF</default-background-color>
      <default-frame-rate>30</default-frame-rate>
      <default-size>
        <width>800</width>
        <height>600</height>
      </default-size>
    </flex-config>

    After losing about 2-3 days to trying to figure this stuff out, I rolled back to build 4.5.0.19786 and the problem doesn't occur anymore.  I'll revisit this issue once we ship the product next week.
    Thanks Alex.

  • Shifting Flex project from Flex SDK 3.5 to Flex SDK 4.0

    Hi,
    I am currently working on a Flex project using Flex 3.5 SDK. I want to shift my project to Flex 4.0 SDK.
    When I changed the project settings to use SDK 4.0, I got lot of unknown location errors.
    1) 1046: Type was not found or was not a compile-time constant: ImportExportConfiguration
    2) 1061: Call to a possibly undefined method setSelection through a reference with static type mx.core.ITextInput
    While the same code of flex was working satisfactorily in Flex SDK 3.5.
    Please tell, how can I get rid of these error and successfully shift my project to Flex SDK 4.0.
    Regards,
    Nitika Agarwal

    Hi,
    While I am migrating my project from flex 3.5 to Flex 4, I have to keep the Flex 3 compatibility mode off and theme as Flex 4 default theme that is Spark.
    Then while i compile I get foloowing errors:
    The   style 'backgroundAlpha' is only supported by type 'mx.controls.TextInput'   with the theme(s) 'halo'.
    The style 'backgroundColor'   is only supported by type 'com.app.model.WLSMSTextArea' with the theme(s)   'halo'.
    The style 'borderColor' is   only supported by type 'mx.controls.ComboBox' with the theme(s) 'halo'.
    The style 'borderThickness'   is only supported by type 'mx.containers.Canvas' with the theme(s) 'halo'.

    The style 'fillAlphas' is   only supported by type 'mx.controls.ComboBox' with the theme(s) 'halo'.

    The style 'themeColor' is   only supported by type 'com.app.model.WLTextInput' with the theme(s) 'halo'.
    What is the resolution for these, as for most of the controls there is no substitute to these properties. If I do not want ot change my <mx:> controls to <s:>controls because it will hamper my UI look and field, which I cannot afford to do.
    I have added following lines at the beginning of my stylesheet (*.CSS) as well:
         @namespace "http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml";
        @namespace "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx";
        @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
         Button { .... }
         ........ / * other styles */
    Please help me on this.

  • Flex SDK Error

    I'm trying to setup the Flex SDK locally (the bugquash event over the weekend
    inspired me) and have got everything installed except I'm getting 2 errors after
    I import all of the sample projects:
    1012: The static attribute may be used only on definitions inside a class.
    airframework/airframework/src/mx/core Version.as line 18 1238554510921 1101
    and
    1012: The static attribute may be used only on definitions inside a class.
    rpc/rpc/src/mx/core Version.as line 17 1238554489765 1100
    I should be good to go if I can figure out what I'm doing wrong with these 2
    things.
    This is all that is in those files, but it is the mx_internal static...line that
    is causing the issue (in both projects)
    import mx.core.mx_internal;
    * @private
    * Version string for this class.
    mx_internal static const VERSION:String = "3.4.0.0";
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
