Flex to Java

Hi Everyone:
I have been looking for an example application and/or
instructions on how to package a simple flex application, deploying
it to a war file for deployment.
In simple words, create flex application --> package it
----> add flex application to an existing war file --->
deploy.
I have the hello world flex application created. Need to know
how to deploy to a war file. What dependencies do I need to make
sure it runs.
Any suggestions? The documentation is very sparse on this.

have a look at the Flex tag library:
http://labs.adobe.com/wiki/index.php/Flex_2_Tag_Library_for_JSP
Allthough, I get an error when using it on JBoss portal (see
my post on Flex on JBoss Portal). Might be interesting to know if
you get the error as well.

  • Flex and Java on Desktop

    Hi
We are having this requirement , we want to develop a
application using flex for adobe AIR runtime which will communicate
with java in the desktop, we are not having any servers here, so
flex application want to communicate with java classes with out the
help of any server so I can't use httpservice, webservice or
    remoting .
I like to know the ways to communicate from flex 3.0(Adobe
AIR) to java files (java takes care of splitting PowerPoint
files and converting it into serious of jpeg files, and
creating ppt files from the objects returned from flex ).
Is there any other way to communicate form between flex and
java in the desktop ??? please give inputs
    Thiru

    Hi,
you could use XMLSocket or Socket classes depending on the
type of communication you want to stablish.
I have been testing this for a while although not for a
    project.
However my impression is that you need to install the AIR app
which is self-extracted and installed, but in second hand, you have
to install the Java app, that acts as a server, and it must be
executed every time your AIR app is, and the other way around.
Untill now I haven't got any idea on doing this without too
much work, but you can take a look at the Merapi project.

please any one of you help me , which one is the bset way to develop the applcation.

I would go with whatever backend is more familiar to the developers and to the ones who will have to updates the application.

  • Flex - BlazeDS - Java: int are set to 0 when they should be kept to NULL.

Hi everyone, I'm having an issue with Flex -> BlazeDS -> Java.
When I pass an object to Java through BlazeDS, my variables of type int are automatically set to 0 if they are NULL or NAN. Is there a way to keep them as NULL ?
    Thanks everyone.

  • Flex 2 / Java

I am creating an application that will use Flex2/Data
Services and Java/Spring. Communication will be via RPC.
I will be using Eclipse with the Flex2 plugin.
Should I create 2 separate projects. One for Flex and one for
    Java?
Can the source code for the Flex part and Java part be in the
same directory structure or should I contain each project
separately and deploy each project separately?
I haven't been able to find any info on this so if you can
point me to some I would appreciate it.
    Thanks

    Hi,
i would reccomnd using only 1 project and put all your code
into it. You can use maven2 to build/deploy your application that
way. Furthermore you will have all syntax highlighting available to
    you this way.
if you are interested, you can download my (
    http://www.wowww.nl/wordpress/?p=58)
example project. It is fully based upon a maven2 structure and
combines the flex and java parts into 1 project.

  • [svn] 1376: eclipse projects: added a flex-flextasks Java project

    Revision: 1376
    Author: [email protected]

    Log Message:
eclipse projects: added a flex-flextasks Java project
    * If you are going to work on flex-flextasks, you need an additional Classpath variable: ANT17_JAR which should point to an appropriate ant.jar on your system (since we don't keep an ant.jar checked into lib).
    Modified Paths:
    flex/sdk/trunk/development/eclipse/readme.txt
    Added Paths:
    flex/sdk/trunk/development/eclipse/java/flex-flextasks/
    flex/sdk/trunk/development/eclipse/java/flex-flextasks/.classpath
    flex/sdk/trunk/development/eclipse/java/flex-flextasks/.project

    Hi Yair
It appears that WLS only supports mapping a directory to a jar in APP-INF/lib/
    C\:/runtime-New_configuration/Common/bin = APP-INF/lib/Common.jar
but NOT to a jar in WEB-INF/lib.
Engineering will look into it sometime to fix it.
    Workaround Suggested:
As a workaround, you can include the Java/Utility project as part of the EAR and set as dependent J2EE module to the Web project.
    Hope this helps.

  • Getting Started with Flex and Java RPC for Free?

    Good Morning,
Please forgive me if this is the wrong place to post- I'm
just having trouble wrapping my head around what is and what isn't
available for free in the Adobe Flex world.
I've been working on an application for the last few months
    using Open Laszlo (
    http://www.openlaszlo.org/),
but I've been running into frustrations with their lack of
up-to-date documentation, and I've found it difficult to bring new
people into the project, since the set of users who know it is so
    small.
While I do like that I can compile to DHTML, that's not
    enough to hold me there.
I've been looking into Adobe Flex, and it seems like a good
alternative- I'm comfortable paying $500 for the IDE-
I use Eclipse currently, so having a plugin for it sounds
ideal. That said, when I look into ways to talk to a Java backend,
everything points to Flex Data services, which is now part of some
larger package costing tens of thousands of dollars.
I don't need advanced messages, or data synchronization, as
nice as it would be.. All I really need is the ability to call a
Java method, and get an object back, which I can then work with in
    Flex.
I see the forum message that asks
    "How
do I 'do' Flash for free?, but this only talks about RPC very
broadly. Given that the message is from over a year ago, I thought
it would be better form to start a new topic, than replying to it.
Can someone explain to me what components I'd need, both on
the client side and the server side?
Is there a set of manuals that explain how to do Flex RPC
    from Java?
Can Flex compile to any versions of flash earlier than 9?
(Flash 6/7 is still in wide deployment)
Do I want to start using Flex 2, or Flex 3? Are the
components compatible? Will the F3 docs be ready?
Finally, where can I purchase the Charting components? The
ability to create charts such as
    this
    overcome a decent price barrier.
Thank you for any insight you can offer, and direction you
    can provide.

well vinay if u r thinking about -- Flex Front End to Your
    Struts Applications
    then ,,
Struts is an open source framework that facilitates the
development of web applications based on Java servlets and other
related technologies. Because it provides a solution to many of the
common problems developers face when building these applications,
Struts has been widely adopted in a large variety of development
efforts, from small projects to large-scale enterprise
    applications.
Although Struts greatly facilitates the task of developers,
it doesn't do much to improve the end-user experience: the
end-result is still an application delivered in HTML and using the
    traditional HTTP request/response mechanism.
    Developers—and organizations in general—are
increasingly looking for solutions to provide their applications
with a more engaging user experience that overcomes the limitations
    of HTML.
Macromedia Flex is a presentation server that addresses this
requirement and allows developers to build a new generation of Rich
Internet Applications (RIAs) that combine the usability of desktop
applications with the reach of traditional web applications.

How can i populate the town combobox from the DB based on the

    Hi Mete,
Thanks for ur reply , Mete. Your reply helped me a lot. Am
    using FDS 2.0.
I have a doubt in combo box area itself.
I have two tables by name country_list and town_list
country_list consists of identity column , country_name and
    country_code
    town_list has identity column, country_code, town_code and
    town_name
Normally while we use combobox in jsp, we have key value
    pairs for combo box..
For eg:- if we have a Country combo , we have the country
name(United States) as text displayed and its country code (US) as
    key.
So if i select the United States , i will be returned with
the value 'US' so that i can use it in query directly as
    Select town_name, town_code from town_list where country_code
    ='US'
But while using flex , am not able to retieve the
country_code from country combo. its only returning the text and
    the id.
Here am forced to write a nested query as follows
    Select town_name, town_code from town_list where country_code
    =( Select country_code from country_list where country_name='United
    States')
Is there any way to get the country_code as key while i
select the country from country combo .
And also how to keep 'United States' as selected during the
    intial load of the page.
    <mx:ArrayCollection id="cntry_list"/>
    <mx:ComboBox x="93" y="89" fontSize="10" id="Country"
    dataProvider="{cntry_list}"
    labelField="countryName"
    creationComplete="ds.fill(cntry_list)"
    prompt="Select Country" />
please give me some suggestions on this.
    Thanks in Advance,

  • Flex with JAVA - Query?

    Dear Experts,
I would like to develop one small CRM Product using JAVA Programming Language, However which concepts of Java to be used for development is still on it's way to Identify. recently I heared of Adobe Flex concept and have done enough research to explore the use and it's quite interesting.
I though to Use Adobe Flex (Flash Builder) as an User Interface (UI) for my application for attractive look and feel, where as business logic should be in JAVA program. UI has to receive User commands from front-end and process to back-end application logic for processing.
Can anybody kindly advise on bellow of my doubts:
    1. Is Flex Professional user License is just enough to build my application or anyother components to buy to integrate with JAVA/J2EE Code i.e. Live Cycle Services?
    2. Use of Live Cycle Services and it's Cost per User/CPU?
    3. Validity period of Flex Builder License (Life time or Specific period)
    4. How can I get more detailed information on Product, Services etc., from Adobe and it's contact number. as I'm in India.
Kindly advise on my above queries and it would be a great help.. Many Thanks in advance.
    Best regards,
    Srujan

I have developed a sample Application using Flex MXML ,some ActionScript classes for Events and Cairngorm , Java , Oracle as database and Blazeds .
Can i use Flex Performance Profiler to Profile my Application . ?? I am asking this question as i ad read the below line from Adobe site and My Application includes java Methods
"You can use the profiler to profile ActionScript 3.0 applications " Can anybody please tell me What does this mean ?? and can i use the Flex Performnace Profiler . Please suggets me .

Thanks Karl for the prompt response .
I am making a call to a Java Method from my Action Script function , or getting data from Java Method into the ActionScript function .
