Floating Document Feature

There is a feature I would like to see as part of the Floating Document. When Adobe created the floating document I was excited because I could move my image past the corners when I had zoomed in. At present I find myself wanting to be able to move my image on the screen when it is not zoomed in. When I have the image where I can see the entire image, except for a small section that is under the panels, I would like to be able to move the image just a little to get it out from under the panels so I can see the entire image. Unfortunately I can only move the image when it is zoomed in to where I can not see the entire image.
I hope this makes sense. This feature is available in Corel Painter when the image is mounted. You can move the image around the entire screen to any position.
Please consider this for Photoshop CS6.

This has been requested for every version since the Tabbed view was brought out, and yes, I agree it would be a tremendously useful thing to have. There should not be a fundamental difference in operation between the image being entirely displayed and *just* filling the workspace, and it being displayed with 1 pixel off the edge.
There's little that's more frustrating than trying to do something with a tool - in this case the Hand Panning Tool - and having the system just sit there and refuse to do anything.
I'm guessing there's a basic reason why it's difficult to implement, because they just don't fix this.

Maximizing a floating document window makes the entire UI inaccessible

On Windows 7, with Photoshop CS6, if you drag a document tab out of the main application window, it becomes a floating document with its own window controls for minimize, maximize, and close just like a normal Windows OS document should. However, if you click the maximize window button, instead of maximizing within the primary application window like document windows are supposed to... the Photoshop document window expands to the full screen and covers up all user interface elements of the primary Photoshop application window. This makes all user interface elements completely inaccessible. Pressing the tab key will not show your tools like you'd expect, though shortcut keys still work.
The only way to get the user interface back is to restore the document window to a smaller size. If this is a feature, what would it be used for? Why do document windows in CS6 need to behave differently from the normal behavior of application and document windows on the Windows operating system?

If Adobe were to make the document "maximize" into the application window, there would no doubt be people who want to see it on the whole screen and are used to the way it works in Photoshop CS5 who would be upset. Plus, that's just not what the Maximize button on a window is supposed to do.
Your workaround is to avoid the Maximize button entirely and use the right-click Fit on Screen function (which really fits to document to the application window) or the keyboard equivalent - Control 0.

It is not clear to me what my options are for either upgrading to Pro, or selectively purchasing the "compare documents" plugin (if possible). I am using what is presumably an Enterprise version of acrobat (i.e. my employer owns it, not me) - so not sure what limitations that results in. I think this is a simple question, but would be grateful for advice.

- You can't install Acrobat Pro alongside Acrobat Standard. You will need to remove Standard to be able to install Pro.
- You (probably) can't upgrade your license if it's a part of an enterprise license. The entire license will need to be upgraded.
- It's not possible to install just the "Compare Documents" function as a sort of add-on to Acrobat Standard.

How to turn off "...Similar Documents" Feature in SES Search Results

Hello,
We are running 10.1.8.4 and have several database data sources configured. We would like to turn off the "Similar Documents" feature in the SES out-of-the-box search results. It appears to be grouping the results via the required CONTENT column.
Is there a way to turn this feature off and have SES simply list all results as parent documents? We have tried to modify the "ses.qapp.similar_doc_handling" property in search.properties but this does not have any effect. Also, by looking at the source for advanced_search.jsp, it does not appear to be checking any properties or parameters so not sure if this is configurable or not.

You seem to have found the right setting. From my notes:
Add the following line to $ORACLE_HOME/search/webapp/config/search.properties and then restart oc4j:
ses.qapp.similar_doc_handling=disabled
Maybe you didn't restart oc4j (using "searchctl restart")?

Why is the Compare Document Feature is greyed out?

I am trying to compare two very similar large documents. I want to use the compare document feature but it is greyed out. What would cause this to happen?

Here's what happened and worked for me. My solution, observations and recomendations. I have FCPX 10.0.9
After creating a 2 minute plus video feature , I discovered I could not export (share) the project. The share option was greyed out. Also greyed out was the File> 'Reimport from camera / Archive' option some have suggested as a solution. There were no errors or any indication why this was happening, which is a huge problem with this editing software and I will address that below.
My problem was isolated to exporting (sharing) one timeline (project) so, reinstalling the entire program was not a logical option. This is what I had to do...
I was faced with the prospect of chasing my tail for weeks on end hoping that I could find an answer buried deep within the FCPX manual or online but, what I did instead was, the grueling task of creating a new project and copying clip by clip from the non-share project and pasting each clip into the new project until I found which clip or clips were the problem. Each time I pasted into the new project I would look to see if the 'share' menu was greyed out.
By doing so, I did indeed isolate the bad (?) clip in the new project and what I did in the 'non-share' project was simply reimport that one video clip. Like magic the non-share project was able to export (share). Share menu no longer greyed out.
This taught me a valuable lesson. 1.) FCPX does NOT always give you the ability to isolate a clip it, for whatever reason, does not like. Meaning, you're up the creek without a paddle when export / share time comes. Huge, huge problem that needs to be addressed.
2.) My humble recommendation is to ALWAYS check your 'Share' menu as often as you can tolerate. Specially those of you producing long projects. It's a pain but, if there is just one clip FCPX doesn't like you will NOT be able to export project.

I would remove Reader and repair or reinstall Acrobat.
Having different major versions can cause some users issues. Reader is not necessary if one has Acrobat installed. Even though Adobe has improved the capability of having both Reader and Acrobat with the same major version level there are still user configurations that have problems with this setup.

How to cycle through floating documents?

SHIFT+CTRL+TAB to cycle through documents in one direction (most recently open to last opened for example or however it works), and CTRL` to cycle the other way. I don't know if everyone else's shortcuts are the same but nonetheless.
If all documents are docked, then these shortcuts work. But if one or more documents are floating, while the rest are docked, then when the cycle reaches those floating document(s), then the cycling gets stuck on those ones and stops even if you continue to press the shortcut keys.
Anyone else see this? Is there a way to get around it? I'm running CS6

Not on my Mac, but if you think the Shortcut keys are not working properly, let's reset them.
Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts Hold down the Alt or Option key and the Cancel button will change to a Reset button, click on that.
Other things outside Photoshop can cause problems. Bluetooth keyboard, tablet, or even an errant third party plug-in
Of course, check your keyboard settings.

Window Arrange New Window for (Document name) is not creating a floating document? It works on my PC, but not my Mac (Mavericks).

So I know this command is supposed to create that document in a new window and have it float ontop of the original document. It (the new window for the document) is supposed to stay in front of anything on the application frame, like the UI does. But on my mac it keeps going into the background when I click onto a different document. I don't know why it does that. This command works fine on my PC.

Split Document Feature

I apologize if this is already listed somewhere in the forums, although I'm just trying to determine if the Standard version of acrobat (299.99) has the Split document function, and that it operates the same as the Pro version (I had been using it in the Pro trial).

I discovered that Reader's "New Window" feature is more-or-less as capable and as useful as the requested "split document pane" feature, so please disregard this thread.

Help with image file names when using Import Word document feature

I am using File >> Import >> Word document into an HTML template. If the Word document contains images, the images are written to the directory specified in my Site Default Image Folder. Here is my question: As I was teaching myself the Import function, one time the images were automatically named to match the page name. So for example, if my page is named Create.html, the images would be named Create_image001.jpg, Create_image002.jpg, etc. I can't remember how I enabled this feature (or maybe I was dreaming) but if anyone knows how to control the name of the images imported from MS Word, please let me know. I've searched and Googled for hours and can't find a way to control the image file names.

I was hoping that this would be fixed in the 10.8.2 upgrade but it has not. Anyone have any luck? Earlier today I was trying to write a paper and navigating between 10 pdfs was a nightmare without being able to hover my mouse for the titles like I used to.

Does Pages offer Outliner and Master Document features?

I'm thinking about switching from MS Word to Pages. I write books, and so key features for me are Outliner and Master Document. Does Pages offer these features? If so, can I import my outline into a master document? I would be really grateful for feedback from anyone who has used these features--are they easier to use than the Word equivalents? Are other things possible with these features?

Master documents are not there I'm afraid. Outlines are kind of limited. You cannot collapse a section for example, and I guess that's one of the main things you want to do?

Unable to Share PDF using the Share Documents feature

Getting a "The selected document could not be retrieved please try uploading the document again" message. Is this a known issue or do we need to look at our SWF configuration?

Well if it was working before you re-installed PSE then this means that you corrupted it when you re-installed it. Now one way is to reset your preferences first to see if it resolves any minor corruptions. Version 5 was released at a time when Windows 7 was non-existent and so the developers couldn't test their products before selling it to you!!.
