Fluid Grid Layout- HTML5 video buttons become gray squares Android

I am attempting to use Fluid Grid layouts for a simple smartphone/tablet acessible video page.  I am in Dreamweaver CS6 Cloud (updated).  The buttons for play and full screen mode are shown as gray squares on my Android phone. It works fine in other browsers (OS:Windows 7, Chrome, FireFox and IE. I have not tested iOS or iPhones). I spent a day trying variations trying to get it to work properly on the Android and finally built a whole new HTML5 (non Fluid Grid) and it works.  But that has issues with formatting, where comes in small and has text not filling the page for Android.  I am trying to avoid people having to zoom in and out to see the page.  The Fluid Grid brings the page in the way that I want it.  My guess is that the Fluid Grid boilerplate or the respond.min.js is causing the conflict.  As this is a touchy new venture into Adaptive Design I have left these files alone.
Here is the fluid grid (stripped of formatting) http://www.oha-edu.org/Video/v1.html
Here is the HTML5 video page where the buttons show up.  http://www.oha-edu.org/Video/2.html
Dumping my Droid Razr Maxx (Android Version 4.04, System version 6.16.211.xt912.Verizon.en.US) is not a solution.  I wish to make this work for as many devices as possible.

  • Fluid grid layout problem

I am trying to create a fluid grid layout.  In fact it is why I purchased Dreamweaver CS6.  Problem is after I create the first div which I named header it works fine.  However, on inserting the next div Dreamweaver inserts the following text in my index.html:
    @charset "utf-8"; /* Simple fluid media Note: Fluid media requires that you remove the media's height and width attributes from the HTML http://www.alistapart.com/articles/fluid-images/ */ img, object, embed, video { max-width: 100%; } /* IE 6 does not support max-width so default to width 100% */ .ie6 img { width:100%; } /* Dreamweaver Fluid Grid Properties ---------------------------------- dw-num-cols-mobile:3; dw-num-cols-tablet 8; dw-num-cols-desktop: 12; dw-gutter-percentage 20; Inspiration from "Responsive Web Design" by Ethan Marcotte http://www.alistapart.com/articles/responsive-web-design and Golden Grid System by Joni Korpi http://goldengridsystem.com/ */ /* Mobile Layout: 480px and below. */ .gridContainer { margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; width: 85.9444%; padding-left: 2.5277%; padding-right: 2.5277%; } #LayoutDiv1 { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } #header { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } #nav { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } /* Tablet Layout: 481px to 768px. Inherits styles from: Mobile Layout. */ @media only screen and (min-width: 481px) { .gridContainer { width: 91.0625%; padding-left: 0.9687%; padding-right: 0.9687%; } #LayoutDiv1 { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } #header { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } #nav { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } } /* Desktop Layout: 769px to a max of 1232px. Inherits styles from: Mobile Layout and Tablet Layout. */ @media only screen and (min-width: 769px) { .gridContainer { width: 88.75%; max-width: 1232px; padding-left: 0.625%; padding-right: 0.625%; margin: auto; } #LayoutDiv1 { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } #header { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } #nav { clear: both; float: left; margin-left: 0; width: 100%; display: block; } }
I suspected the respond.min.js file was causing the problem so I downloaded an update but it didn't help.  At this point I am not able to use this feature of Dreamweaver.  Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks for the help.  I am using version 12.0 build 5861.
I was trying to follow the example in a book I have called Dreamweaver CS6 – The Missing Manual.  When I got to the section discussing Fluid Grid Layout, I attempted to follow the example step by step.  I was able to insert the first div which I named header.  I looked at my css file and it had placed the #header.
I knew that I had to remain within the container  div.  I went into the code view and placed the cursor to the right of the header div.  I then clicked the insert Fluid Grid Layout Div Tag button.  That’s when it automatically inserted all of the code I indicated in my post.
I then started to follow the example in http://www.adobe.com/inspire/2012/08/fluid-grid-layouts-dreamweaver-cs6.html .  I got the same results.
I’m beginning to wonder if there is an error in the Dreamweaver software itself.
Any help you can give will be appreciated.

  • Is it possible to use HTML5 tags within fluid grid layouts?

    Hello,
I want to build my future websites with fluid grid layouts and Dreamweaver CS6 but I don't find any help by searching the internet how I could use the HTML5 tags like "header" "nav" "footer" etc. within the fluid grid layouts automaticly. If I do anything manually it's more error-prone. Or is just the best way to stay with the "normal" div-tags???
Thank you in advance, best regards ... Björn

Those tags are equal to a normal DIV and can be used just the same, they are just not built into CS6.

  • I downloaded Dreamweaver CC 2014.1, started using it but cannot find Show Fluid Grid Layout Guides button, Resize LI.link sizing handle and 'move up a Row' arrow. Where can I find them?

I downloaded Dreamweaver CC 2014.1, started using it but cannot find Show Fluid Grid Layout Guides button, Resize LI.link sizing handle and 'move up a Row' arrow. Where can I find them?

You have the latest version (CC 2014.1 or 2014.1.1) in which the interface condenses Design View with Live View buttons in normal layouts.  See screenshot.
However, in FGLayouts, Live View is the only option which poses some editing problems and has been highly criticized.
Is there any way to display the Design View in fluid grid pages?

  • CSS height property use in Fluid grid layout

Hi, I'm totally new to fluid grid layout and just got started in it. I have a div tag that has 5px height and I sucessfully applied that and seem fine only on Tablet landscape (1024x768) and Small tablet landscape (800x600), nevertheless it isn't even displaying on Mobile portrait (320x480), Mobile landscape (480x320), Small tablet portrait (600x800) and Tablet portrait (768x1024).

I really do appreciate your efforts to help me solve this problem... Thank you in advance

Height is determined by content.  I can't think of a single reason to have a div height of 5px because almost nothing will fit inside that small a space without problems.
As to why it doesn't show up in other devices, you must have put that style into the Tablet CSS code instead of the default Mobile CSS code.
Fluid Grids build up from Mobile (applied to everything) with specific rules for Tablets, then Desktops.
Best advice, use Fluid Grids for layout only.  Use a separate CSS file for content styles.
    Hope this helps,
    Nancy O.

  • Fluid Grid Layout Alignment Issue

I'm using Dreamweaver CC Fluid Grid Layout. This is my first time using Dreamweaver, (and first time posting to Adobe Community) so I don't have a ton of experience. Somehow, the whole body of all my pages has been aligned left and I can't find anywhere in the CSS or the HTML of the individual pages that would make it do so.  I even tried inserting a body: align: center in the CSS and also in the HTML of each page and it just won't respond. Does anyone have any ideas? I'd really REALLY appeciate some help with this because I'm totally at a loss. Below is my CSS and the HTML for my index.html .

FluidGrids are for experienced web designers who already understand  the core concepts of HTML, CSS and  Advanced CSS Media Queries.  Don't bite off more than you can  chew for a 1st project.  Start with a stable, fixed-width layout.  When you become proficient with that, then you can take on more challenges.
Go to File > New > Blank page > HTML.  Select a layout from the 3rd panel.  Hit Create.

  • Fluid grid layout won't open

I simply create a new fluid grid layout.. name and save the default css file ...name and save the default first page and upload to my server.
Everything works fine and I am able to work on the page in dreamweaver cc as a fluid grid layout.
But when i close down dream weaver, (even if i do no more than save the two files and dont edit anything else) and reopen dreamweaver cc i can no longer work in fluid grid layout, dreamweaver doesnt recognise the page (default) as fluid grid layout and i cannot see the little button that toggles fluid grid layout on and off.
I have not edited the css file or the page in anyway.
someone suggested i go to visual aids and enable fluid grid guides .... but this does not exist and there is no longer a fluid grid button next to the live view button.
I really need to get this working, fluid grid layouts are useless if you cant edit them after creating them
    Here is the default code

Thanks in advance for any replies

I defined the site, when i imported the site as business catalyst site.
It is there, i have checked all the details are correct and can edit and work on the site as a normal site, I just can't get it to recognise any pages i've created as a fluid grid page after closing and reopening the page.
Yeah I watched the video and that is what im doing, create new page as fluid grid layout, save the css to the root, save the html page to the root, all works fine and i can edit in the fluid grid, the grids there, the little buttons there, the handles to adjust fluid grid propertys there.
But at any point if i close the page and open it again i lose the handles, the fluid grid and the little button and can only edit as a normal dreamweaver page.
I tried to phone adobe support yesterday but gave up after 2 hours of waiting

Starting in portrait on my iPhone 4, the fluid grid layout page does not resize when I turn to landscape.  After I refresh / resize to fit the page on landscape and then turn the iPhone to portrait, the page resizes just fine.  Everything seems to be working just fine on the desktop, ignoring IE.  Could it be my media query tags?
If anyone knows a solution, it would be much appreciated.  Thanks.
Here is my test page: http://www.bedroomandmore.com/1_b_fluidGrid.html
Here are my media query tags (the first set of rules does not have the media query tag and becomes the default):

  • Can I control column color in fluid grid layout?

The columns in fluid grid layout are gray in CC; they used to be pink. I highly prefer pink, as I almost never design with that color, and I frequently design with gray.
Is there a way to set a preference for grid column color in CC?
    Thanks.

    NO NO NO NO NO!
Never make your navigation editable or you will shoot
    yourself in the foot
when it comes time to change a link there and you would have
    to touch every
    page. <sheesh>
Give each of those links a unique ID, e.g.,
    <a href="page1.html" id="link1">Page 1</a> |
    <a href="page2.html"
    id="link2">Page 2</a>....
Then in the head of each child page, add this to the Editable
    Region called
    "head" -
    <style type="text/css">
    a#link2 { color:whatever; otherstuff:whatever; }
    </style>
Now you would just edit the embedded stylesheet to change
    a#link2 to a#link3
or whichever button you wanted to affect on that page.
Alternatively, you can go here -
    http://www.divahtml.com and get
    their
    DivaGPS extension.
DO NOT MAKE YOUR NAVIGATION EDITABLE.

  • DW CC Fluid grid layout how to change px width for desktop layout

    Hi there,
I have been going through the various tutorials about fluid grid layout and setting up our bureau's website in a responsive layout.
The width of the original design was 960 px and the hero pic and others have been exported at that size.
The first divs in the design look fine, header with the 960 px pic in it, and also the BC menu which is set to 960 wide.
However the body text goes out to the right, past the 960 px and this is because, right at the start, when starting the file in DW the desktop screen width is set to 1232px.
How can you change this setting when starting a new fluid grid layout?
I have tried changing the number of columns, or the percentage, and the width for desktop remains at 1232px.
    Why is this?
Not all of our clients want a site 1232px wide on a pc.
    Thanks so much.

    Hi Ben and Nancy,
Thanks for your replies, but maybe you both don't realise I am asking specifically about DW CC and setting up a responsive design using a fluid grid layout?
I have been following the recent videos from Adobe on this.
As far as the width of 960 goes, Nancy I am only shortchanging myself, as this is the website for our agency. The original design is 960px wide as I did read somewhere that this width is recommended now that responsive is coming, as it is easily divided into a grid layout. I also am quoting for a client at the moment who wants a responsive design for their website, and they have specifically requested that the site have a maximum width of 960 px. So I would like to find out if this is possible in DW CC at the moment when doing a fluid grid layout.
So what I am trying to do here is follow the Adobe tutorials on responsive design, using DW CC and I am using the current design for our agency website as a trial to set this up and try and get it working as a responsive website.
It does not seem to me that many other people are doing this, as most people are recommending that I try Github or Bootstrap.
However, I am not a coder and I am used to using DW, so I would like to get the DW CC responsive design features working if possible.
Ben the CSS you are looking at is being generated by DW CC as I follow the steps in the Adobe demonstration videos to set up a fluid grid layout in DW CC.
One of the things they say in the videos is that you can't program the CSS directly when doing a fluid grid layout, or you break the CSS and it all stops working. So I am using the new panels in DW CC to set up the layout. One thing I cannot get access to is the ability to set a maximum width for the site. It seems to be set in concrete when you start the fluid design up in DW CC.
Here is a pic of the screen I am talking about that sets the maximum width:
I cannot click in the pixel width at the top and change it. Also if I adjust the number of gridlines or the percentage for the pc layout, the default maximum pixel width does not change.
If you click on the preferences button and go into the Window sizes screen, there does not seem to be a way to set the maximum pc width here either, so I am a bit stumped.
Maybe I just have say to my clients that if you want a responsive design then the max width for pc can only be 1232px? It does seem strange to me that this cannot be changed.

  • Lost fluid grid layout

    I use dreamweaver cc
I opened and created a page, that worked fine in fluid grid layout.
I then quit out of dreamweaver, then came back to the same page later.
Now when i open that page in dreamweaver cc, i no longer see it with the fluid grid layout or with the fluid grid handles on any of the divs.
I also no longer have the little button in the toolbar next to live button either.... to toggle the fluid layout on and off.
I did see one solution which says to go to view/ visual aids/ display fluid grid layouts
but this does not seem to be available in dreamweaver cc... only dreamweaver cs6.
I have the latest version of dreamweaver cc, and have set up the page correctly.
Thanks in advance to anyone that takes the time to help.

    Hi Nancy,
My operating system is Windows 7, run at our health corporation, (so I can't upgrade to Windows 8 or 8.1.)
Im running Adobe Dreamweaver Creative Cloud built 6733 - the latest version as of today.
The problem I have been experiencing match up with those of many other users over the last 2 years.  There's quite a few posts reporting the same type of thing that I am.  Basically it's to do with the Fluid layout controls and the icon on the toolbar that first appears once you've created a new webpage controlled by the fluid layout stylesheet.  These are first there, but after restarting DW they are gone.
    i.e.
I create an HTML5 webpage saved as 'default.asp'  and a fluid grid stylesheet named fg-styles.css.
The Fluid Grid layout controls are all there.  (I am doing nothing else, no injection of code nothing.)
    Then I close Dreamweaver
On reopening of Dreamweaver and all files, when looking at the default.asp file in Design view, the fluid grid hide/show icon on the toolbar and the fluid grid controls when clicking inside the fluid div no longer show.
I get this every single time, even after rebooting my computer.
The controls also strangely disappear during a session when I am adding new blocks within the fluid grid panel.
I am so close now from discontinuing using this tool and looking elsewhere for fluid grid solutions.
It seems such a powerful tool, but what use is it if it is unstable.  Really, DW should not roll out such tools until they have been proven to work reliably.
Also documentation should be provided that makes clear when this tool cannot be used reliably and workaround solutions.
I have now spent a solid 10 hours on this, and created countless versions of the same page.
Admittedly at one stage I discovered that when adding the classic ASP line above my HTML5 code that this would not work after Dreamweaver saved my document as an .asp file, but even .html files still experience all kinds of bugs with this tool.
I hope this kinda explained what problems I am facing.
    Thanks again for your time.
I will now move on to other fluid grid solutions, but am happy to re-look at the DW tool if there is a sure-fire way that fixes my problems.

  • Trouble styling across device views ( Mobile, Tablet, Desktop) in fluid grid layout.

    Hi pros,
I’m having a problem in Dreamweaver CC laying out and styling my website using the fluid grid layout. For the record, I have not touched the boilerplate.css or JS file and have been using my own.css file to place all my .css in. I’ve managed to get some of the content in little by little but it looks nothing like my mock up. Since I’m new to Dreamweaver and coding in general, I’ve been starting my design in the desktop view. However, when I switch to tablet or mobile view and move something around, it completely moves it when I got back to the desktop view. Also, when I put in on live view or view it in a browser, I get two different looks all together.  I try to make sure that my .css file is selected and under media I tried selecting the predefined media sizes and then under selector, there is usually 3 of each tag (one for each view I’m guessing), I select the tag associated with that view and change the properties from there. That hasn’t worked because when I go to live view or view in the browser, it looks completely off or it will screw with the other views. L
So here are my specific questions:
How do I style my elements specifically in each view WITHOUT messing up the desktop, or the other views? Simply clicking on a view using the icons on  the bottom and styling has not worked.
Why is my live view so different from my browser view? I’m using the presets given in Dreamweaver for the desktop. When I view, say the logo and navigation in live view, everything is aligned but when I switch to my browser (chrome) it’s all crooked.
Should I be using % throughout all my properties (width, height, margin, padding, positioning)? Currently I have most of my div sized using % but some margins and other properties using px. Will that affect anything?
Can someone recommend a good tutorial? Everything that I seen either covers the basics that I already know,( adding/moving divs, switch views) but when it comes to the .css styling, they are adding a style sheet from somewhere without showing you how to do it from scratch.
Should I design the page in a non- fixed layout and then import the .css style sheet from there? If so, how do I do that without messing with the boilerplate.css file.
I’m taking a course in graphic and web design and we went over this very quickly and was given a lot of the material, however our final project (a full website with 5 pages) must be responsive and built in Dreamweaver. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Making an external style sheet.
Go to File > New > Blank page > CSS.
    Hit create button.
Add some style rules to your new style sheet and save it.
Link your HTML pages to your new style sheet using the directions below.

  • Placing a background image in fluid grid layout

I am having trouble building a fluid grid layout  I am not sure why but when I shrink the layout it doesn't seem to work correctly
I need to do 2 things.
    1) make the background image shrink as it is suppossd to. when you scale down the images doesn't shirink to tablet size and isn't there for the phone size (although I think I want a new image for phone with just one side of the (page image). on it so I assume I just link that in there under that section in in the css
2)It doesn't seem to want to align the writing so that it is only over the page section of the background image on each side (the rightcontent and left content boxes-ie they should look like text on a page)
also I want to take the page here when it is finished and make it a template for further pages (just changing the text) is that done the same as usual for the fluid grids?
Thank you in advance for the help
Here is the link that the site has been temp posted on for detail editing.
    http://approvalsite.info/

    Kind of makes sense.
I am not sure how to make the div tag layouts relative to the background image.
    please advise.
also, I have been playing with it and it seems to be working better now.
But the issue I have with it now is that the image on the right side of the page keeps showing at the bottom of the page instead of on the top of the page directly next to the wording on the left.
    does anyone know why?
I am sure it is just a simple coding issue.

  • Unable to edit elements in Fluid Grid Layout - Dreamweaver CC

Hello. I have an issue whereby the elements inserted in to a Fluid Grid Layout designed webpage become 'locked' (??) I can no longer edit them and when they are clicked on I just get a blue border. No handles, eye, delete button etc..
I cannot find any pattern on why this is happening and seems to be random. Although I am happy to accept I am doing something wrong..
    Any ideas?

Are you removing/modifying any of the comments in the related CSS file (custom styles file and not the ones provided by boilerplate/JQuery/etc)
DW uses some comments to identify the page as a FG page. If you happen to remove/modify any of that, DW will stop recognizing it as a FG page.
The comment block would look similar to:

  • Using Fluid Grid layouts | Learn Dreamweaver CS6 | Adobe TV

Designing for multiple screens can be a difficult and time-consuming task. The new Fluid Grid feature in Dreamweaver CS6 gives designers a visual way to control page layout for multiple screen sizes. It also automatically integrates cross-browser consistency through the use of HTML5 boilerplate and the respond.js library.
    http://adobe.ly/IUFngo

Although the whole fluid grid layout feature suffers from a terrible implementation, this video explains what is needed to understand, and warns very well for all the strange culprits in this feature.
It takes time for most designers to get used to the idea of fluidity in a visual representation of information, and let structural building blocks flow according to alternating views and rules. Let's hope Adobe Edge Reflow helps us doing that in a better, faster way.
