FLVs won't play

Okay, so I log onto youtube, and I choose a movie to watch.
But when I click the movie i want to watch, it just keeps loading
forever. Then I go on a different site, and it has a blank space
where the movie should play and when I right-click it it says
"movie not loaded" in grayed out letters. Does anyone know whats
going on?

There are a lot of different things that could be going on.
1. Your flashPlayer version might not be up to date, and is
causing issues with the websites.
2. Your flashPlayer could have gone corrupt.
3. The videos you are trying to watch might have broken links
(though I doubt this with youtube)
4. There may be something funky happening with your internet
connection.
5. Your browser may be set to not run javascript, which may
be necessary for some of these.
6. There could be another browser setting that is causing
flash files to not display properly.
My first thought, if you are on a PC using Internet Explorer,
would be to go into C:\WINDOWS\ and delete the "Downloaded Program
Files" folder. This folder houses every plug-in that you install
into Internet Explorer. Deleting it forces each of those plug-ins
to re-download the next time you try to use them. At my company, we
have had some problems with corrupted activeX controls (the
flashPlayer), and have found that deleting this folder will solve
the problem.
Otherwise, I would try uninstalling, and re-installing the
flashPlayer. If that doesn't solve your problem, then it is time to
look into some of the other issues, starting with the browser
settings, eliminating everything one-by-one until you find the
culprit.

  • FLVs won't play when fully loaded (but do play while still loading?)

With the new flash player (10,1,82,76), my FLVs won't play when they are fully loaded. Previous versions had no problems.
Curiously, they will play if I click the play button while they are still loading.
    Any ideas are greatly appreciated!

Well, I found a workaround. If I use myflvplayer.seek(0) before calling myflvplayer.play(), it will work since I am not allowing users to pause.
    Lame.

  • Flv won't play in safari or opera???

I am trying to add a video to this site:
    http://www.ld-ink.com/Millennium/index.html
The video plays in Firefox, IE, and Google Chrome.
It does not play for me in Safari of Opera.
Can anyone give me some assistance as to why this is happening? When I preview the page from Dreamweaver in Safari or Opera, it works. When I load it up on the server, and check it on the web in those browsers, it doesn't.
    HELP!
(PS - there is no sound with this video).
    Thanks,
    PT

I searched what that was - and the answer is no. I added the video file as follows: Insert>Media>FLV>browse, etc... used the first skin they gave me.
I have no idea why those two browsers won;t play it, but they don't. I even installed safari on my pc , and it doesn't work, so it's not an issue with my Mac.

  • FLVs won't play from CD on XP

    Hi -
I have a Flash CS3/AS2 project containing swfs with FLVs.  When I Publish the "START.fla" which pulls all the files together, I tell Flash to create a "Projector" for Mac and an "EXE" for Windows. On my (OS X) desktop this Projector thing works perfectly...swfs open from a menu in my GUI, the swfs reference flvs and the flvs play.  The swfs are in the same folder as their flvs.
If I put this whole folder full of files over to the WinXP box (via shared folder), double click on the EXE - no flvs will appear.  Everything "leading up to" an flv works - but where there should be a video there is none.
Moving on I burn the project onto a CD.  When I open the CD on the Mac and find the Projector - I double click and it still works great. Everything flawless.
I put that same CD into the WinXP (SP3) box, find the EXE and double click.  As I expected - no improvement, the GUI opens, the swfs can be launched from the menu, but no flvs appear.  I get the swf that references the flv - but no flv. I even waited extra time thinking it would eventually happen.  No.
Can anyone give me an idea why it should work on Mac and not on XP?  Where should I look for the glitch?
    TIA some expertise.

For those lost souls who found themselves on my path...
As far as why disc didn't work on XP.
When using Toast 9 (Mac) to burn CDs/DVDs -
-use Data / Mac & PC. (not UDF)
Then use Toast's own way of writing .inf files and including icons.  No other app is required. everything is inside Toast under "More".
Also - files can be hidden from opposing platforms.  Very handy.

  • FLV won't play even in preview

I've inserted an flv file into my page but I cannot get it to
play under any circumstances. When I preview there is just blank
space where the video should be. After going to 'Insert Flash
Video' I chose 'Progressive Download Video', selected the file,
clicked 'Detect Size' and chose 'Auto play.' I've also tried
creating a swf file in Flash containing the flv video but I get the
same problem. The only place I've actually been able to view the
video is in flash. In the swf I created containing the flv video in
Flash, I can go to 'Publish Preview:Flash' to view the video. If I
go to 'Publish Preview:HTML', the page is blank. What am I doing
    wrong?
    -Beau

I figured out the solution. I installed at Apache server on
my computer, then ran the html pages containing the flv files from
the Apache server, and it worked. Apparently flv files on a web
page cannot play unless they are on a web server.

  • Another flv that won't play

Can someone help with why the flv won't play on testing
    server.

Just put us both out of our misery and select that folder and
    upload it.
    Does it work now?

  • .flv and .avi won't play any more.

I had all the relevant codecs and was able to play .flv files in QuickTime and in VLC Player and also .avi files.
I reformatted my MacBook Pro for unrelated reasons, and now since installing all the same codecs etc. I can't play .flv files and also I have .avi movies which play with no sound in QuickTime, whereas they used to before reformatting.
    I have installed:
    QuickTime Pro 7.5
    DivX
    XviD Codec 1.0
    VLC Player 0.8.6i Janus (Intel)
    Perian 1.1
Does anyone know why suddenly there is no sounds for .avi in QuickTime and .flv won't play at all in QuickTime, VLC or the DivX Media Player whenever it used to work fine? I don't want to have to install more media players.
    Cheers.

    Same problem as Somhairie...
But only .flv files won't play. More exactly I've lost the sound.
despite what you say, Toronto..., I had the same codecs installed as described by Somhairie and it worked fine before I reinstalled all OSX.
    Some new ideas someone ?
    thank

  • FLV files won't play on testing server

I've created a site with several videos on multiple pages. They play on my local computer but will not work when uploaded to my server. I get an error in opening the page and a "plug-in cancelled" message in the Activity window in Safari. Other FLV files play from other servers (even those I created and placed in other site files using the same method). I feel certain that something in my upload is causing the problem, but I cannot find any missing files or misplaced files on the server. NO FLV files are playing on the entire site.
A page in question is: http://www.hensondesigns.com/kpc/COMEDIANS/Guy_Branum-bio.html
(disregard the second and third videos on the page which are embedded from YouTube; it's the first video that won't play)
I've got the Scripts folder uploaded and the skin file within the COMEDIANS folder on my server.
Does anyone have any ideas what's wrong? I'm sure it's something simple but I have no idea.
Thank you in advance for your time and help.

    Hans-G,
Thanks for checking the page to try to help. I apologize--I figured out the issue and didn't have a chance to remove my question from the forum. The issue was being caused by the files being on my server--somehow they weren't being found. I made an adjustment in Dreamweaver and they now work. Thanks again!
Is there a way to remove this entire post? I realize it will be of no help to anyone else, and I don't understand the problem and solution well enough to add details to make it helpful.

  • FLV files won't play in other programs

    Has anyone experienced this...
I encode FLV's using PP CS3 with no hickups during the encoding. They play fine in Windows Media Player (latest version). But not all players play them. I put them on our streaming server and they won't play in our web pages using the Dreamweaver player. They play fine if i use the jeroenwijering media player but not Adobe's own media player which comes with Dreamweaver.
My biggest problem is that I have several FLV files that I need to convert to some other video format (AVI, MPG, etc.) But none of the programs I've tried will even recognize the FLV files created with PP CS3.
I used Movavi FLV converter and Riva FLV Encoder and a couple others and nothing works.
Has anyone else experienced this and have they found a solution?

I cannot help you with the playability issues of your FLV's, but:
My biggest problem is that I have several FLV files that I need to convert to some other video format (AVI, MPG, etc.) But none of the programs I've tried will even recognize the FLV files created with PP CS3.
I use Moyea's FLV Plug-in for PrPro. IIRC, it works fine in CS3, though is not supported under CS4.
To date, I have yet to be handed an FLV that it would not Import and edit properly. Thing that I like about it, is that it's a true plug-in and there is no conversion necessary.
I've used FLV-to-AVI, and it's slow. Also, the conversion is an extra step.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Video/Movie won't play when exported as a PDF.

    Hello,
I am creating an interactive PDF using CS5 to display video work. Unfortunately, the video won't play when exported as an interactive PDF, I am just left with blank space. I find this very odd as it plays in preview and also when exported as a SWF but that file type is unsuitable for the project.
Initially when I exported it I got this message: "One or more of the interactive elements are clipped in ways the pdf files can't reproduce...." Obviously, I have ensured the file is resized correctly and also tried .mov, .mp4 and also .flv file types with no success. I have also checked the simple things like ensuring all the right boxes are ticked when I export.
This is not the first time I have embedded video but it is the first time without success despite following the same pattern. Any ideas as to why this would be and how to fix it?
    Thank you,
    Laura

Use Flv or f4v format, after you have placed video into your layout, make sure that you don´t scale or crop video frame at all.
(Whren you File > Place a video, you will have a loaded cursor with video icon. Click the empty spot on page with loaded cursor, don´t draw a rectangle or click on the top of some exisiting frame)
It´s important that you have your video in 100% encoded size in your layout. If you need to scale or crop it, load that video into Adobe Media Encoder and do it there, and re-encode the video to the correct size and shape aftrwards.
Adobe Media Encoder ships with InDesign.

  • Video from iPhone won't play on iPad

I received a video from iPhone in an email but iPad won't play it? Any way to get it to play on iPad.

I appreciate what you are both saying -- but it is not the music that is the problem.  The video itself is NOT blocked - you can view it on a computer -- but when you try to view it on ipad/iphone the message says, "not available on this platform".  Here is a link to a video I did in Elements 9 on Tuesday:
    http://youtu.be/06TaM22SkdE
Here is the link to the video done last night in 11:
    http://youtu.be/h353KBGkodU
The "raw files" are both adobe flash.flv -- it's just not making sense...
    Thank you!!!

  • Using FLVPlayer 2.5 with rtmp: source - won't play

Im trying to use the FLVPlayer component via FLVPlayback_2.5.swc. I have included this file in my /lib folder and it appears to be included and compiling. When I attempt to play a (known good) .FLV file from an RTMP: source it won't play.
I have tried a variety of methods:
    1) <video:FLVPlayer > object added to a container at runtime
    2) FLVPlayer object created at run-time and added to panel or UIComponent
I have tried using the 'source', 'load' and 'play' functions but I never see any events occurring. Setting 'autoplay' to true has no effect either.
    Im watching for anything on:
    fl.video.VideoEvent.PLAYHEAD_UPDATE
    fl.video.VideoEvent.STATE_CHANGE
    fl.video.VideoEvent.READY
    fl.video.VideoProgressEvent.PROGRESS
examining the 'status' of the player object shows "loading" but never progresses from there.
    What am I doing wrong?

Oddly enough if I change the .source property to point to a local file (EG player.source="z:\\host\\path\\file.flv";) it works.
The docs says this control is supposed to be able to play rtmp or local files so there's a disconnect somewhere.

  • In Flash CS4 a generated html with swf file won't play swf

Using Flash CS4 and having the Flash plug-in ver 10 on my PC, the generated html file will not play the swf in the browser.
I noticed that the active-x javascript is now included in the header as well as the javascript portion in the body tag.
But it won't play.  I get the typical blank window in IE with the "X" in the upper left corner.
I don't have this problem with Flash CS3.
Any ideas what may be going on?
    Thank you.

I am having similar difficulty; mostly I am confused.
I want to open a flash video file in a frame within a webpage.
I have generated a Flash CS4 html and swf file. When loaded they play, but they play on a separate, full size web page, not in the frame where I want it.
I then generated FLV and F4V files but that doesn't work.
It appears that I need to insert the object and embed tags "for Flash Movies" in the html file.
Once I do that, do I go back to only putting in the html and swf files and create a link to the html file to bring up the video in the target frame?
What are the FLV files for?

  • PPro CS4 won't play back

Suddenly video in Premiere Pro CS 4.0.0 for Mac won't play back from source window, program window, or timeline, except for an occasional playback of < 1 second. Scarily this was described by a bunch of users in a thread started two years ago. Only one solution was offered there, which didn't apply to my Mac.
I was involved in another thread on a related subject in this forum once before but that setup seemed connected to the use of a Dazzle Bridge for capturing. There's no such complication now...it's just not playing any video more than a few frames.
An editor who can't playback any video is in trouble, and after paying as much as I did for this program and a Mac Pro, it is disheartening. Any ideas out there?

I appreciate everyone's help but I'm afraid the situation has gone from bad to worse, since Premiere suddenly disappeared.
Yesterday, following one bit of forum advice, I tried using a separate user account labeled Premiere Pro and the program did play the files--though it wouldn't let me save the project file where it resided. Now, however, the program is nowhere to be found. I have the original installation disk but I have heard of problems arising from reinstallations.
To answer some other questions, I did try to download the latest update for PPro CS4. I am using PPro for Mac on a Mac Pro with a 10.5.8 OS. I can't say for certain exactly which version I "have" of PPro CS 4 since the update because the program has disappeared and is not turning up in the Finder anywhere, nor can I recall the exact wording of the error message saying I couldn't save my project as edited under the alternate user. The program and system worked fairly problem free for almost four years before the last few days. I use a variety of source footage, including .avi, .mov, .flv, .mp3, .wav.
One Snow Leopard user has recommended using a Root User account which doesn't seem to apply here. For example, he referred to a "Network Account  User" option that was supposed to appear in Accounts/Login Options but doesn't on my Leopard. Also, as per another user at Trafford College, I revised permissions to select Everyone...however since the program isn't appearing on my computer, there's no telling if that worked.
Community help is greatly appreciated--especially in light of one forum report of someone who was on the phone with Adobe for hours with this kind of problem but without getting it solved.

  • QUICKTIME WON'T PLAY MOVIES???

Does anyone else have the problem with Quicktime 7.4.5 not playing any type of movies (mov/mp4/avi)? Until the latest update for itunes/quicktime I had no problem playing the movies. Now I keep getting "Error -50: An unknown error occurred (name of movie.extension)". Most of my movies were converted from .flv to .mp4 then saved with quicktime to .mov. I used "Replay Converter". Again until today, quicktime had NO problem playing any of these files...now it can't play any of them.
    Any suggestions?

For a long time, there was a bug in the conversion of .flv's to .mp4 in the ffmpeg libraries. This caused any app that used ffmpeg to create non-standard .mp4 files. This bug has now been fixed and everything should work as normal. However, those older files that were not created according to the .mp4 standard won't play when they have an .mp4 extension.
On the Mac side, an app to fix these have been released, I don't know about the PC side. Others have noticed that if they change the extension to .3gp, they will play (and they're reported to play in iTunes as well).
