Font problem in Photoshop CS5 ?

If i open my psd in CS4 and try to edit it it's ok, the Arial font doesn't change, but when i try in CS5, it's another story. The same font looks much compress.
Can somebody explain what's the problem here ?

I am sorry for your inconvenience.
Yes, we already received kerning problem (http://forums.adobe.com/message/2819866).
This issue may be solved if you change:
- Font anti-aliasing NONE to Sharp/Crisp/Strong/Smooth
- Fractional Widths to System Layout (Character panel > show more option)
Hope this helps.

  • None of my fonts install into photoshop cs5. why?

I had my computer repaired a few months ago by Mac Medics and ever since my photoshop will not install fonts. Its photoshop cs5. I have an osx 10.6.8 system. The fonts install fine in all other adobe and microsoft programs. I tried doing what several of the forums online suggested and nothing is working. Am I missing something? I have reinstalled photoshop. I have done the Application Support route, I have emptied caches. I'm trying to fix it myself before i call MMac Medics. Ideas?

Hi Joe. Yes I did that. In fact, yesterday I did it again but I completely uninstalled the whole Creative Suite and disabled it. I reinstalled it. This time I at least found that the Adobe font folder was not empty as it had been before I uninstalled CS. The programs still don't grab the font from my font library like they should but I was at least able to make aliases as before and drop them into the folder. That worked. However, they should be loading directly into the applications.
Most "well behaved" (designed to Apple standard coding practices) applications use the fonts directly out of OS X's own font library, but Photoshop has some old code that builds and uses its own font library. One of Adobe's contributions to their reputation of being a memory hog. IIRC Photoshop Elements and InDesign both have a much newer code base and use the system font library. Why this is creating a problem for you only Adobe knows for sure.

Another issue I've had is that nearly a dozen times over the last three months I get a grey'd out screen and in 50 different languages it tells me to power my computer off. I need to take it back to Medics. Maybe they can fix both issues. For now, I can work with it. Thanks for all the input.
That, my friend, is called a full blown kernel panic and those can be a real bear to diagnose unless they are reliably repeatable. While kernel panics can be caused by software problems the most common causes are a bad CPU, a bad logic board, or bad RAM. I hope you either have Applecare or Mac Medics has you covered under a service warranty on their work as a new CPU or logic board can get pricey!

  • Problem with Photoshop CS5. Memory and Harddisk spaces

Just got CS5 Master Suite. Whenever I open photoshop it takes a ton of memory 1 gig +. When I open files it takes up more and more until it takes up all my memory and hard disk space. I open a simple multi layered file that is 25 megs in size to work on it. Before I know it photoshop is taking 20gigs+ of my hard disk space along with 3+ gigs of system memory. Is there a memory problem in photoshop cs5?
    Thanks!
    Joseph

So I just opened the 25 meg file in photoshop cs5 and watched my free space on my hard drive go down 8 gigs the instant I opened it. It went from 27 gigs of freespace to 19 instantly.
I am running a Macbook Pro with OSX 10.6., 4 gigs of ram on board.
    anyone else having simular problems?

    UPDATE:
So I just opened the 25 meg file  in photoshop cs5 and watched my free space on my hard drive go down 8  gigs the instant I opened it. It went from 27 gigs of freespace to 19  instantly. As I open more files and close others it works till my harddrive goes to zero space... stalls the computer big time. Only way to correct it is to quit photoshop cs5 and wait a few minutes for the space to return... and it takes a few minutes for it all to return.

  • Problems installling Photoshop CS5.1 on Mac OS Snow Leopard Version 10.6.3

Hi I am having problems installing photoshop cs5 on a mac from a disk, when it gets to 26% it just freezes and I have to force an eject of the disk.
I am very new to macs with little training so any ideas much apprepriated.

You might want to update your OS (apple-menu > Software Update) and are you sure you have enough free disk space?

  • Fonts malfunctioning in Photoshop CS5

Hi, I've got a problem with certain fonts in Photoshop CS5 running on Windows 7. Normally in the drop-down menu of the fonts list, there's an "O" or "TT" symbol next to each font to signify if it's OpenType or TrueType respectively. However, there are five fonts that don't have either symbol:
    Courier Regular
    FixedSys
    Small Fonts
    System Bold
    Terminal
Whenever I select these fonts in Photoshop, I get an error message saying "Could not complete your request because of a program error". This is particularly annoying, because it interrupts me scrolling through the fonts list. I tried hiding these fonts in Windows Explorer, but even though they don't appear in Microsoft Office programs, they still show up in Photoshop. I want to delete them, but apparently they are protected system fonts. So I followed this guide to take ownership of the fonts: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html
After I had reassigned ownership of the fonts to me, I was able to delete Courier Regular, Small Fonts and System Bold. However I can't delete FixedSys because I get an error message saying "FixedSys (Set #6) cannot be deleted because it is in use." (No, it's not!) And for some reason I can't reassign ownership for Terminal because its Properties aren't available. Even if I hold Alt and double-click on the font (which is the shortcut for opening Properties), nothing happens. How do I delete these two malfunctioning fonts from my computer?

I strongly recommend you try to get to the bottom of why you're having a "malfunction" rather than try to delete protected system fonts.  Windows protects those fonts for a reason, and trying to remove them WILL net you other problems.
For what it's worth, the fonts you have named all work great on my Windows 7 system in Photoshop, so there's some specific problem with your setup (Photoshop?  Your system?) that you really need to solve.
Not having seen the particular problem you're reporting, I don't really know how to tell you to get more information, but I definitely advise you to try to solve that problem directly and not delete the fonts.
Because you've already removed the above fonts, I suspect at some point you may need to reinstall windows (although it may have restored them automatically).  I recommend you run the command SFC /SCANNOW /VERIFYONLY on your system (from a CMD window started as Administrator).  Windows will tell you whether it is in need of repair.

  • Here's a strange problem in Photoshop CS5 Extended....

I finally got Photoshop CS5 Extended to open images new and existing by rolling back my video drivers.... Awesome, great, fantastic, euphoria ensues...... until I type some text and nothing appears..... Hmm... That's strange... I thought maybe it might be an old font Photoshop couldn;t recognize as I had read some here mention. Changed the font to Ariel... nope still nothing.... Changed font colors and such.. still it doesn't appear.
So I switch the the paintbrush and paint some random squiggles.... again nothing appears....
Anyone else have this happen? Did you fix it? If so and you can help me out I'll buy ya a doughnut

Considering your previous problems with the video card driver, try disabling OpenGL Drawing from Edit->Preferences->Performance. If that works then it means that it's still the video card driver causing the problems so uninstall the video card drivers, restart your system into Safe Mode, run DriverSweeper* and then install the drivers again.

  • Fonts missing in Photoshop CS5

I have many DVD case templates I created with Photoshop CS2.  I now have Photoshop CS5.  I am opening these DVD case templates with PS CS5.  There have been several instances where the fonts I used in CS2 is not available in CS5.  Is it possible for me to import these fonts into PS CS5?  If so, how?
    Thanks,
    Angela

One follow-up question concerning the "missing fonts" issue.....
With Photoshop CS5, if the font is missing the program will alert you.  Because of these alerts, I was able to determine which fonts were missing in my Photoshop projects and install the missing fonts.
Unfortunately, Premiere Pro CS5 will use the "next best" font if a font is missing.  Therefore, I was trying to determine which fonts were "incorrect" within my APP CS5 projects and install the missing fonts accordingly.
My question.....I have approx 360 fonts from my XP computer.  Would there be any harm in installing all of these fonts on my Windows 7 computer, to make sure I cover my bases?  Currently, there are approx 300 fonts on my Windows 7 computer.
I have verified that if I try to install a font that is currently on my Windows 7 computer, I will get a prompt asking if I want to replace the existing font.  Obviously in this case, I would not replace an Windows 7 font with a Windows XP font.
    Take care,
    Angela

  • Fluid Mask 3 Problems in Photoshop CS5?

    Hello,
I have been using Fluid Mask 3 to edit trees and skies in my photographs. When I am in Fluid Mask, I can get the mask to work perfectly and there is no fringing around the leaves or branches of the trees, no matter how fine the detail is. Impressive. The problem is when I go back to Photoshop and drop in another sky behind the trees, fringing reappears at the trees edges. In Photoshop, I use the defringing option which helps a bit but it is not perfect. I am perplexed my Fluid Mask 3. Why can't I get the same file in Fluid Mask 3 into Photoshop? There has to be a way I can get the exact file from Fluid Mask 3 into Photoshop CS5. Your help would be appreciated.
    Thank you,
    David

You'll have to ask the makers of FluidMask3 about that.

  • Cannot Open TIF file in LR3 but no problem in Photoshop CS5 or PE9 or any other software

Hi - I have a folder with about 300 tif files provided by someone else (I have no idea how they were produced). They use LZW compression and most of them are under 1mb in size.
I can open them in Photoshop CS5, PE 9, Paintshop Pro, Irfanview, Picassa, etc. without any problems.
When I try to import this folder LR3 gives the following message "The file appears to be unsupported or damaged".
    I have uploaded a sample file http://www3.sympatico.ca/david.broughton/sample.tif
While I have worked around this by using Irfanview to do a batch conversion to jpg (the resulting files are successfully added to the catalog by LR3), I am hoping to understand this issue a little better to hopefully avoid it in the future.
    Any insights would be welcome.
    Thanks

The file should be called RT_sRGB.icm so you can search your hard-drive for that.
If you cannot find it, then you can download one from the RAWTherapee Google Code repository.  Here is the branch for the RT color profiles.  After you click on the profile you want, you can see various bits of information about changes, but to download the file, itself, click the “View raw file” link at the lower right:
    http://code.google.com/p/rawtherapee/source/browse/rtdata/iccprofiles/output/
Once you have the file, right-click on it in Windows Explorer and choose Install Profile, which should copy it to the standard location of:
    C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\color

  • COM Problem windows7 & Photoshop CS5

    Hello,
I am having a bit of a problem with instancing com objects for both photoshop x64 and x32 versions. both of which I have installed, and need available, due to legacy 32 bit plugins our studio relies upon for certain things.
The problem is that there seems to be only entries for the 64 bit version of CS5 in the registry.
Looking at the objects available in HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT I have
    Photoshop.Application
    Photoshop.Application.12
    Photoshop.Application.12.1
if I trace back the CLSID to  HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{xxx-xxx-....}\LocalServer32 this points to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe /Automation" for all of them. This is the same for each of the other objects such as Photoshop.JPEGSaveOptions etc..
all set the LocalServer32 to the 64 bit version. How can I get entries for the 32 bit version aswell?
I am guessing it might be possible to itterate all Photoshop.X entries in the registry and create new versions with new clsids that have the LocalServer32 set to the 32 bit version of photoshop?
    Any help appriciated
    thanks

Wow for sure! Here is some experiments I do to see what is going on. This is on a 64 bit windows 7 machine. I run as admistrator and with that annoying "are you sure you want to run the thing you just tried to run" OFF. User Access Control (UAC) I think is the official name.
    I open up a command prompt, cmd.exe, in 64 bit mode. Window-R "cmd" (I haven't tried this with a 32 bit cmd prompt (H:\Windows\SysWOW64\cmd.exe).
Go to where the Sample Scripts are, doesn't matter wich version as the vbs files are the same. Mine is here:
    H:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Scripting\Sample Scripts\VBScript
Make sure no photoshop is running and type in:
    cscript Trim.vbs
Wait for the script to complete but do not hit the "ok" yet on the script.
Launch windows task manager and note that both Photoshop (you can tell when the splash screen launches as well) and csript are in 64 bit mode.
Now hit ok and quit Photoshop, wait for them both to be gone from task manager and type in:
    \Windows\SysWOW64\cscript Trim.vbs
Now you see that both Photoshop and cscript are in 32 bit mode.
Now trying to "cross the wires" does not work.
Launch 64 bit photoshop first, then try to run the 32 bit script. You see that 32 bit won't launch, we block both 32 and 64 bit running at the same time, and the cscript will time out. Doing the 32 bit Ps and 64 bit cscript will cause the same problem.
Hope that helps you and you could be a way that you control which version of Photoshop gets launched for your case. I thought I read somewhere that you could talk from a 32 bit to a 64 bit via VBScript (OLE Automation) (Automation) but never could find or build a real example.

  • Having problems with Photoshop CS5 running on 34 bit Vista

I recently downloaded CS5 Design premium, and I seem to be having trouble running bridge.  I'm using MS Windows Vista Home Premium 32-bit SP2 on an Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600  @ 2.40GHz.  3gb of RAM and 256MB GeForce 8500 GT graphics card (if that matters).  I was wondering if there is a way to fix this, or maybe a 32-bit version of Photoshop CS5.
And if there isn't, is there a way to remove the bridge access buttons from photoshop?  Seeing something useless in a five hundred dollar program bothers me quite a bit.  Thanks in advance.

Apparently, something went wrong with your Photoshop installation. I would try fully uninstalling Photoshop and then run the "CS5 cleaner tool" (see http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/829/cpsid_82947.html). Then try reinstalling making sure you turn off all anti-virus software and UAC (User Account Control) and run as an Administrator equivalent.
If you still have problems, please contact Adobe Technical support directly.
To answer you question about the buttons, no, there is no way of disabling that functionality.

  • Photo RAW update installation problems for Photoshop CS5

I have Photoshop CS5. I was trying to import some photos taken with my Nikon D3200, but it said that it didn't recognize the camera. I then tried to d/l the update, but after almost finishing the installation, it would say that it couldn't install all the parts, and try again later. I did but with no luck. Anyone have this problem?

Ok, since you have 10.6.8, v 8.3 dng converter is the latest supported for that OS.
Adobe - Adobe Camera Raw and DNG Converter : For Macintosh : Adobe DNG Converter 8.3
How to use it:  Camera Raw: How to use Adobe DNG Converter - YouTube
Here's direct download of ACR 6.7 if you have not tried it Adobe - Photoshop : For Macintosh : Camera Raw 6.7 Update
    So I hope that helps.
