Form in a different database

Can I create a form region based on a table that residedes in a different database?

Yes, it should be possible.
You need te create a databaselink, and have access-rights to the data you want to show in your form.
Suggestion: search on this forum with "databaselink"
Hope this helps.

  • CONNECTING FORM WITH TWO DIFFERENT DATABASES

    HELLO ALL
    Is there any way I can connect to 2 different databases at the same time. What I have is 2 different database for two different payroll systems. Now what I want to do is if user press a button I send some data from this payroll database to second payroll database using insert and update command.
    I am using Form 5, one database is Personal Oracle 7 and second is Oracle 7.3. (I don't think versions matters but anyway)
    Thanks

    Hello,
    Yes u can connect to with several database at a time using ODBC connection and Exex_Sql package supplied with Forms6i as a built-in. There is no Exec_Sql built-in supplied with Forms5, but there is a library named exec_sql.pll (Check it out) supplied with Forms5.
    using this package u can connect with multiple DB at the same time.
    here is an example-
    Declare
    v_ConnHandle Exec_Sql.ConnType;
    v_CursHandle Exec_Sql.CursType;
    v_NumRows Pls_Integer;
    Begin
    v_ConnHandle := Exec_Sql.Open_Connection('Scott', 'Tiger', 'ODBC:DBName');
    v_CursHandle := Exec_Sql.Open_Cursor(v_ConnHandle);
    Exec_Sql.Parse(v_CursHandle,'Select ename From emp');
    Exec_Sql.Define_Column(v_ConnHandle, v_CursHandle, 1, v_EmpNAme);
    v_NumRows := Exec_Sql.Execute(v_ConnHandle, v_CursHandle);
    While Exec_Sql.Fetch_Rows(v_ConnHandle, v_CursHandle) > 0 Loop
    Exec_Sql.Column_Value(v_CursHandle, 1, v_EmpName);
    End Loop;
    Exec_Sql.Close_Cursor(v_ConnHandle, v_CursHandle);
    Exception
    When Exec_Sql.Package_Error Then
    If Exec_Sql.Is_Open(v_ConnHandle, v_CursHandle) Then
    Exec_Sql.Close_Cursor(v_ConnHandle, v_CursHandle);
    End If;
    Message('Error ('| |Exec_Sql.Last_Error_Code(v_ConnHandle)| |') : '| |Exec_Sql.Last_Error_Mesg(v_ConnHandle));
    End;
    hope this help you.
    best of luck.

  • DML performance in different databases

    Hi ALL:
    I am testing a procedure in the company's two different databases, 800D( development database) and 800P2(integration testing). The following is my procedure:
    PROCEDURE GET_FLORIST_TELEPHONES IS
    cursor c1 is select id from ats_florists where status = 'A' ;
    n number:=0;
    begin
    for x in c1 loop

    begin
    select tlfn_number into temp_tel from ats_telephones
    where fit_id = x.id
    and tlfn_type = 'WP' and rownum = 1;
    n:=n+1;
    insert into florist_telephones

    end if;
    exception
    when no_data_found then
    null;
    end;
    end loop;
    end:
    Basically what I am trying here to do here is to populate our clients' phone numbers from a master table (ats_telephones) into a temproray table (florist_phones). Please note this procedure resides in the form's (4.5) program units.
    When I tested it in the 800D (both in the backend and front end) the all process took about 30 seconds (about 50,000 records),
    but when I call the same procedure in 800p2 from forms it will take about 2 hours to populate almost the same amount of data. However, when I call this procedure from SQL*PLUS intead of forms in the same database(800P2), it takes only 30 seconds. Can anyone help me solve this problem? Many thanks.
    Kevin

    Is there a reason for using rownum?
    Try the procedure without the rownum clause.

  • Error Generating Form against external application database

    I'm hoping the answer to this is simple, as others in the office can do this without any trouble, but can't remember how they made it work...
    My client has their repository and application schemas in separate databases. When I try and generate a form from the Design Editor, I get the following error:
    CDG-01281 ERROR: Module OASF95110: Oracle Forms binary file for MAINTAIN TARIFF AGREEMENT has NOT been created
    CDG-03418 WARNING: Module Component OASF95110.TARIFF_AGREEMENT: Missing action item to navigate to 'TARIFF_AGREEMENT_PARTNER'
    CDG-03400 WARNING: Module Component Table Usage OASF95110.TARIFF_AGREEMENT.TARIFF_AGREEMENT.TARIFF_AGREEMENT: 'Closed loop' of mandatory foreign keys found
    CDG-01263 ERROR: Module Component Table Usage OASF95110.TARIFF_AGREEMENT.TARIFF_AGREEMENT.TARIFF_AGREEMENT: User-defined condition (Table level Check Constraint TARIFF_AGREEMENT.TRFA_CK1) has an error: PL/SQL: ORA-00942: table or view does not exist
    What I seem to be missing, and have not been able to locate in any documentation, is how to tell Designer to look in a different database for the (already generated) schema objects.
    In a copy of the repository where I have generated the necessary objects into the same database as the repository, the form generates flawlessly...

    Tried that... Turns out the system uses the "Compiler" tab for validation, not for "Form Options" tab - It took a while, but one of the other developers finally remembered what they did and actually compared the screen prints I was providing with what they had in their environment...
    Thanks :)

  • Is it better to create ONE form, for 25 different forms?

    We have a Telco Application (in Forms 10g) which has about 200 Forms which are called from the main menu. Out of that 200 forms about *25* are "file upload" type forms (shown below).
    http://www.freeimagehosting.net/alg6q
    As you can see this is small form. The functionality is as follows:
    *(a.)* Select a text file (which has data in tabular format) from the client PC.
    When file is selected, it is also copied to a directory in the DB server machine. File Name will show the full path of the file in the client machine.
    *(b.)* When user presses Load button, form calls a stored packaged procedure. In that we create a EXTERNAL table mapped to the file in the db directory and read the contents to a temporary table in the DB.
    *(c.)* When user presses Process button, the temporary table is read and our Telco tables are updated using this data.
    *(d.)* You can view the error records and correct records discovered while processing, with the View File option. This will display 2 Oracle reports.
    *(e.)* You can delete the temporary table contents using the Delete Temporary option.
    This story goes like this: Our application is in Forms 10g. Now, we want to upgrade this application to 11g Forms. One problem we encountered was the FileUploader bean which we use in the above forms. This does not work in 11g. Solution was found in using WebUtil. Now, we have to modify all 25 Forms (obviously).
    Now here comes the real important part: Our Managers think that in the future also we might have to do upgrade to these 25 forms (due to future problems/upgrades with WebUtil and so on) and they want us to create ONE form for the 25 forms. So, in that ONE form,
    (a.) We have a list box at the top where uses selects which upload function he wants.
    (b.) Then, the file is selected (and transferred to the DB directory).
    (c.) Now when the users presses Load button, we have to execute the load packaged procedure for the selected load file option.
    (d.) When he presses Process button we have to run the program unit for the selected file upload function.
    (e.) When user presses the View File button, he has to show the correct records and invalid records (found after processing) in 2 reports. The reports differ from function to function.
    (f.) He can delete the records in the temporary table using Delete Temp button.
    Is this is good idea?? My initial study tells me that it is not a good idea since we have one form with too much functionality. What are pros and cons of this approach and what is the best solution??
    Edited by: user12240205 on Jun 25, 2012 1:16 AM

    So the forms are completely different, and yet you are asked to stuff them all together into one form? What sense would that make? That's like pulling forms which are using text_io together just because when text_io is changed you simply would need to edit one form. Well of course you would have to. On the other hand there is a pile of code necessary to seperate the parts you glued together in the first place plus the effort of pulling all those forms together plus the effort of adding stuff to one "part" of the form.
    Also think about version control: you'd create more frequent conflicts in putting those forms together when different developers edit different parts of the form. Conflicts causes work as developers are forced to merge more often plus developers can make errors when merging their changes. Also the log of your version control system becomes quite useless as it always will be the xyz form which is changed. If you would want to know what did change you would have to read the log messages carefully of each revission (given the fact that developers wrote them carefully) or do diffs between revisions instead of...looking at what files changed.
    And all that just because the only thing they have in common is that they are using webutil?!? Do your managers keep their Blue Socks and their Blue Cars in the same drawer because they are blue?
    If the issue here is that you need to edit many forms and this might cause errors then you should take a look at the JDAPI, because this would be the tool to do changes in forms in batch. The forms migration assistant can also be configured to change one built-in into another, and you wouldn't have to write one line of java code. But stuffing forms together because they use the same built-ins...I'd say no, but of course this is just my opinioin ;)
    btw.:
    When you say API, u mean a PLL, right???Not only, by API I meant Application programming interface; this might be a package in a library, a whole pll file, a database package, a java class, or a combination of all those.
    cheers

  • Can Adobe Forms link to multiple databases?

    I've created a form for an air charter company. I need it to link to several different databases. Can Adobe Forms do this?

    Not directly, no. Only if that form was created in LiveCycle Designer.
    It used to be possible with forms created in Acrobat as well, but Adobe
    removed that possibility for some reason.

  • How to join tables on different databases

    In the company I work in, we've got some java applications working on two different instances which "hide" to each others (one on 10g and the other on 8i). Some decoding tables, which should common to both of them, are only present on 8i one.
    I've been told that java works 'cause it allows to connect to both of databases and then report the information on front end applications.
    The question is this: since we'll have to get reports on both of databases, is it possible to perform queries by using tools like oracle forms, oracle reports, sql developers, ... for joining the tables of the two different databases as java does? We have to get how to accede directly to the two instances for getting data from both of them for reporting activities. I remind you that we cannot use dblinks between the two databases for internal security reasons.
    Thanks in advance!

    Even java can't join between tables on two databases if the db links are not created.
    So it essentially works that it fetches the data from one db and then from another db ( using two different db connctions) and then you can utlize these data and perform some joining.
    Coming back to database world. It can be done like the usual dw approach.
    1. Connect to a third db:
    2. Get data from one database
    3. get data from other database.
    now do all the joins that you want to do

    i am facing a problem for opening two forms in two different SAPB1 applications where it is connecting into two different databases.please send me a solution for this problem.

    Hi Mai,
    you can always open multiple forms in a company.so if you want to open one form from Database 1 and Database 2 , then its okay. If  I did not answer your question correctly, then kindly explain your question in a more detailed way.

  • Different database connection or proxy user change

    Hi forms guys,
    in everyday life I am fulltime DBA, so please forgive my spare forms word pool.
    Our users open a forms application that displays a menu with forms applications the user has access to. Users can then click on the menu items and another form pops up. Now having reviewed the code, I can say that the opening of the new forms is done by calling the builtin OPEN_FORM. As parameter "SESSION_MODE" for this function, "SESSION" is supplied. If I understand correctly, this means that another session using THE SAME username/password/connectionstring is created (for the purpose of parallel transactions in parent and child form).
    At the moment each and every user (~400) has it's own database account which has roles (depending on the applications they are granted access to) assigned and also sometimes owns dblinks and synonyms. We want to get rid of them by storing the credentials in OID and just create ONE single application user for every application we host. This user shall contain all nescessary objects such as dblinks and private synonyms.
    The enduser then logs in using the proxy mechanism. For example if user XYZ (defined in OID) wants to start application ABC, then he/she connects like XYZ[ABC_APPUSER]/XYZPASSWD. This must occur when the form opens, directly after the OPEN_FORM call.
    Now my question: Is this possible somehow? Is there a way to have different database connections within a single forms window, if there are different forms? Or is it possible to make a switch to another proxy user within forms? e.g. JDBC has the ability to quickly switch to an other proxy user, without having to re-establish the whole session.
    All I have read so far tells me, that it is not possible. But I would really like to hear that acknowledged by experts. Also other, perhaps better ideas for our intention are welcome.
    Kindest regards
    Matschbirne

    Not really sure how to answer your question other than to say that from within your form's pl/sql you can connect and disconnect as often as you like programatically. However, you can only have one connection at a time (as far as I know). So if you connect as SCOTT and later want to do a login as FRED, you can do so, but SCOTT will no longer be connected.
    Forms does support using Oracle SSO, but for the most part cannot directly access OID. Also, the db login information needed by Forms (when using SSO) is stored in a RAD (Remote Access Descriptor) in OID. The RAD behavior is unique to Forms and Reports. For each SSO user there is a related RAD. At the moment, there is no provided way to have RAD groups (e.g. Admin, Sales, Guests, etc). So each user get their own RAD.
    If you are using Forms 11.1.x, Forms now supports db proxy users.
    More information about SSO and Proxy users with Forms can be found in the Forms Deployment Guide:
    http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E24269_01/doc.11120/e24477/sso.htm
    In the code, you can control the connection using the LOGON, LOGOUT, and LOGON_SCREEN built-ins. Refer to the Forms Builder online help for details on how to use these.

  • How can I connect to a different database schema,other than adobe?

    I'm building an application where I want to use a different database for it,for storing additional data for the users(different from "edcprincipaluserentity" table in "adobe" database stores)..How I can connect to my database schema created in MySQL from Workbench,to assign tasks to my users,using the Process Management/Assign Task service?

    You can only assign task to user that are known by the LiveCycle User Manager.
    When you configure LiveCycle, you can tell it where you want to get the users from. They can be created them locally in the local database, or synchronized from an LDAP directory in which case it'll read the users from LDAP and make a copy of some of the properties to the internal LiveCycle database.
    Bottom line, all users have an id (in the edcprincipalentity table) in the adobe database.
    If you need your users to come from a different database, then you need to customize the SPI (security provider interface) so that you can synchronize the users coming from your external database. Again, this is a customization since out of the box, we don't synchronize against external database. But it is possible, the API is there and other customers have done it.
    I hope this clarifies things a bit.

  • APEX Application accessing data from two different databases

    Hi All,
    Currently as we all know that APEX Application resides in database and is connected to the schema of that database.
    I want APEX Application to be running and accessing data from two different databases. Elaborating my question,
    Currently, my APEX Production Application is connected with XXXX Schema of DB1 Database(Where APEX Resides). Now I want to add some pages into this APEX Application for REPORT Purpose, But I want to connect this REPORT APEX Pages to get data from Different Schema YYYY for Database DB2.
    Is it possible to configure this scenario?
    The reason for doing this is to avoid the REPORT related (adhoc queries) resource utilization effect on Production DB1 Database.
    Thanks
    Nil

    1. If you do the joining of two or more tables in DB1 then all data is pulled over to DB1 and then the join is executed: so more data over the databaselink and more work for DB1. Better keep the joining stuff where the data resides and just pull exactly that data over that you need.
    2. Don't know about your different block sizes. Seems a nice question for one of the other forums (DBA or SQL).
    3. I mean create synonyms on DB1 for reports VIEWS in DB2.
    Hope all is clear!

    Information:
    =======
    All children take exams at the age of 16 called a General Certificate of SecondaryEducation (GCSE).
    They have to study and take exams in Mathematics, English and Science, and can take other subjects such as History, French, Art etc. Most students will study between 5 and 10 different subjects before taking their GCSEs.
    For each exam, a student is awarded a grade from A*, A, B,C,D,E,F,G,U,X An A* grade is the best grade achievable and an X is the worst grade.
    In order to analyze how students have performed, each grade is mapped to a numeric value as follows:
    Grade Numerical score
    A* 8
    A 7
    B 6
    C 5
    D 4
    E 3
    F 2
    G 1
    U 0
    X 0
    Now why i need this avgGCSE is because i have to create a view containing avgGCSE of the students it is used in the next question where a condition is avgGCSE is between 6.5 and 7
    In order to calculate the avgGCSE the idea is to calculate the grades of the students and map the grades to their corresponding scores/values
    add them all up and div by the total no of grades to get the avg.

    1386 STEPHANIE AANNESSON 15-JAN-79 f none 6.88873 2 2 so if xgcse is the avgGCSE then upn 1011 has avggcse<6.5 and 1386 has avggcse >6.5
    my idea was backward strategy like so now if we find out upn 1368 has suppose xgcse(avggcse)>6.5 how to extract the avggcse for the particular upn We need to map grades from GRADEVALUES to grade in STUDENTINGROUP and map upn from studentingroup to upn in student to output the values for the corresponding grades from GRADEVALUES
    select grade
    from comqdhb.studentingroup@glink
    where upn = 1011;

    32/8=4 total(values to corresponding grades)/no of grades.
    But the xgcse for upn 1011 is 3.935 and i am getting 4!! maybe xgcse isn't avggrade but ? is the procedure by me correct for calculating avggcse
    select grade

  • JMS JDBC store failed to open after switched to a different database machine

              Hi,
              I'm running WebLogic 6.1 sp3/Oracle 8.1.6 and I configure the JMS JDBC store for
              persistent messaging. I was working fine until I switched to use a different database
              machine which has the same software configuration as the old one. It was giving
              me "failed to create tables" error at start up time. But I checked the database
              and found out the two tables (<prefix>JMSSTORE and <prefix>JMSSTATE) were both
              created and I was able to query although they don't contain any data. By the way,
              I'm using thin client.
              Anyone can help? Thanks a lot!

    Hi Michelle,
              I suspect a permission problem where the new tables are created
              using the JDBC driver's default schema, but the prefix
              specifies another schema "qa". So the tables are getting
              created, but aren't found.
              Work-around one:
              manually extract, edit, and run the ddl that creates
              the tables to specify the schema. Prepend
              "qa.JMS_SERVER_" to all table names
              (This is fairly simple to do.)
              http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs61/jms/appb.html#999286
              Work-around two:
              Don't include "qa." in the prefix.
              (i'm not sure if this will work)
              Work-around three:
              Change the username of the JDBC pool to "qa".
              (i'm not sure if this will work)
              Work-around four:
              Change the schema for the tables that were created
              under the JDBC driver's default schema to "qa".
              (I'm not sure how this is done, or even
              if it is possible. Database specific.)
