Formatting XML text

Hi. I've been trying to figure out XML in flash and found a
(old) tutorial that worked for me. i want to format the text using
html tags. I have found other tutorials on this claiming it's easy
using CDATA, but i can't get it to work with mine. It either shows
the text with the tags, or NULL when i add it wrong. I understand i
need to add bold fonts, etc, but i'm adding the code wrong.
If this IS simple (or even possible), will someone help and
show where it needs to be placed in the code? Any help at all is
appreciated.
Thanks.

You do use CDATA tags if you want to put HTML inline in your
XML. When you
do that though, you need to set the htmltext property of the
field, not the
text property. And not all HTML will work - tables for
instance.

alrighty then try this xml structure.
Note: formatting information like b, or linkage tags should
not be part of the xml.
The XML format is a universal format for data, if you fill it
with style information this is not good practive (in general, there
are of course scenarios where it makes sense, also since (x)html IS
also XML).
In your case you want to put the information about multiple
companies in a xml file, but you let the flash decide how to
display format this information.
so if you use the sugested XMl structure you will have full
control of the layout within flash, because you can grab every
piece of information from the xml and place it jsut where you want
in flash and format it within flash.
Of course this process is more coding work than your previous
attempt, but it pays of when you have a lot of data to process and
when you want to have full control of the final layout.
But maybe its overkill for your application (I don't know how
many companies will be stored in your xml and how complex the rest
of the app is).

Hi,
Use {code} tags to post formatted code on the forum.
That way, your code will be more readable for everyone, and more importantly here, everyone will be able to clearly see what's bothering you :
'sThe single quote was encoded with the character entity reference "'".
The conversion is not mandatory but it happens Oracle is doing it in this case.
It shouldn't be a problem though.
If you want to extract the value afterwards, it'll come as expected :

SQL> insert into ftr_ctl values (1,

Technically speaking, a piece of text must be well-formed before it can be called an XML document. So you cannot yet say the returned text is XML.
The first thing to do is to check whether it is. Use, for example, isXml(someString) to check whether someString is well-formed XML.
There is no one standard way to convert text to well-formed XML. This is because there are infinitely many ways in which text can fail to be well-formed. The easiest solution for you will be to learn the rules for well-formed XML.
Any elementary book on XML will teach you that. If you find books old-fashioned, then you could instead google well-formed xml .

• Formatting the text file

hi folks,
I have an text file with records, each record has several field values and there is blank space between them, I need to remove the blank spaces, is there a way that i can do with all records at one stretch? Instead doing it for each record.
I know it is not related to SAP but I need some help in this regard as there are a lot of records and formatting each record manually is extremely painful. This is a corrected file manually on a spreadsheet and converted into the text file from thereon.
Any help is really appreicated.
Thanks,
SK

Hi,
What you are trying to do with the text file after removing the spaces?
Are you going to use in SAp Upload? or just to remove the spaces in text fiel?
If you are using it for other purposes, you should not remove the spaces, because for that particular field no data will be entered.
(generally we remove the other chars's like " by Find and Replace method)
Generally we format the text files from the Excel to utilise it somewhere?
And we won't remove the spaces for surther uses.

You can set up a temporary button (or link, bookmark, etc.) and add the following JavaScript action:
// Mouse Up script for a temporary button (or bookmark, etc.)
// Change the font and font size for all text fields in this document
for (var i = 0; i < numFields; i += 1) {
var f = getField(getNthFieldName(i));
if (f.type === "text") {
f.textFont = font.Helv;
f.textSize = 9;
It also sets the font size, but you can remove that line if you don't need to do that.

Ideally, I'd like the text to fade in and out with the image.

• How to copy paste a table structure from word document into Text Field [field format Rich Text]

In our current implementation we have a Blank page with Text Field [field format Rich Text] on generated PDF Document.
Once the PDF document is generated, user can copy paste content form any word/rtf document to into the Text Field.
Pasted content retains all text formatting [Bold, Italic, Underline, Indentation] except the Table format. Text Field is removing table metadata from the content and converting it into plant text.
Is there anyway to copy paste table structure as it is from word document into Text Field?

Hi,
I don't think you can! While you can paste formatted text into the rich text field, the table metadata means nothing to the textfield.

The output from the above code is a clutter of elements. All the elements are on the same line some times.
1) How can I format the output? (Indent the elements in the file)
Is there a way to achieve this?
Sometimes, I see a square character at the end of some lines. I thought the output file is corrupt because of this character. But it does not seem to be a problem.

• Using a CWM format XML as datastore; COM SDK to read the file and create Universe

Hello everyone
We are in the process of migrating from a metadata store to BusinessObjects Universe and the plan is to use Java/COM SDK to accomplish that. We have run into limitations with both the SDKs. Java SDK doesn't provide that facility and using COM SDK we are trying to read from a XML file (metadata in CWM format) and create the universe but so far haven't been successful. If the (Universe)Designer can read a CWM format xml file (say created from BODS) we are wondering why can't a customer made COM program do the same.
Has anyone attempted this and been successful. Please acknowledge.
Thanks

I have written C#.NET code to build universes on the fly using the Designer SDK with no problems. However, I wasn't using CWM formatted data to do this.
I have two suggestions for you:
1. Since not all of the functionality in the Designer tool seems to be available through the SDK, can you parse the CWM xml file in your code and build the universe based on the data instead of trying have Designer build it?
2. Since you're using Java, you may get better answers by posting this question in the Java SDK Application Development space here: http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/java-sdk
