Formula on presentation variable name

Is possible to get this?
I would like to create a presentation variable depends on a formula...like: @{'pv_'||'CASE WHEN SUBSTRING....'}
Is possible to do this?
Thanks!

Hi,
While passing the presentation variable from prompt you need to pass only with the presentaation variable name.
You can create an intermediate report with getting the presentation variable and case statement and then pass this to the main report column(filter based on another request)
Hope this helped/ answered

  • Presentation Variable name being passed as value

I have a requirement where value needs to be checked against two separate fields for filtering (as OR statement). But there should be ability to filter on these fields separately as well.
    Dashboard prompt:
    Province [Multi search]
    State [Multi search]
Combined search (Province OR State Fields) [Edit Box] --- used to pass presentation variable
    Report filter:
    Province is prompted
    AND State is prompted
AND Province is @{presentation_variable} (no default)
OR State is @{presentation_variable} (no default)
But if the text field with presentation variable in not used to filter, then the report shows no result because the presentation variable name itself is taken as a value. Any solution how this can be done making sure that if province only is searched for then the presentation variable is not passed as value and the query returns no results?
    Thanks everyone.

Thanks Rachit, that helps. For the scenario mentioned initially, even this works:
    Province is @{presentation_variable} (no default)
OR State is @{presentation_variable} (no default)
But the challenge is if I want to add another filter (like country) also as a filter. When users filter only on country, then the report shows no results because no value has been passed to the presentation variable and the query generated uses presentation variable name as the value!

  • Using Presentation variables..along with case statements..

    Hi All.
I have a issue using presentation variable along with CASE statements. My approach is
    1) I have a dashboard prompt, which is being set as Presentation variable.
Based on the value selected in prompt, for ex the values of prompt can be 'ABC' and 'DEF'.
I have a calculated column, the calculation goes this way...
    The forumal is
CASE WHEN @{Presentation Variable Name} = 'ABC' THEN xxxxxxxxxx ELSE IF @{Presentation Variable Name} = 'DEF' END. It gives error of "no table being referenced"..
Is this is the right approach??
Can i get the values of variable in a column formula, so that a column can have values selected in prompt?
Can anybody pls help me here..
    Thanks in advance...

    Hi
    Thanks for the quick response..
    I agree to ur point..
    But the requirement is
Based on the value of the prompt I need to switch the calculation in one of the formula area of one column..
If Prompt value is ABC then one kind of calculation in Fx and If the prompt value is DEF then one kind of calculation in the same Fx..
    How can I acheive this?
    Thanks in advance..

  • Unresolved column when using presentation variable in Answers filter

    Hi all,
I'm using a dashboard prompt that sets a presentation variable - pres_year. I'm using the presentation variable in a request's filter.
In the 'Criteria' tab, in the filter for the request, I set a year column (YEAR) to the presentation variable via Variable Expr and enter the presentation variable name only. End up with:
    YEAR is equal to / is in @{pres_year}
When using the dashboard, the prompt and request all work fine. The problem is when I'm in the request in Answers and I click on 'Display Results' button. I get the following error:
    'NQSError: 27005 unresolved column pres_year'
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

I got same error, if i'm using SQL Expression, instead of variable expression in filter section.
make sure that you followed this:
filter on year > Add > Variable > Presentation. Then, give the presentation variable name (which you defined in dashboard prompt) in Variable Expr field , click OK
    getting same error when using:
Filter on year column > Add > SQL Expression > presentation variable. This is not right place to give presentation variable.
    and, error i got:
    *State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 27005]* Unresolved column: "var_Year". (HY000)
so, make sure that you are suing the right one..

  • Using presentation variable in a dashboard prompt

    Hi All,
Can we use a presentation variable set in 1 dashboard prompt in another dashboard prompt to filter the values shown in the prompt based on the value selected in the first prompt?
I am using SQL results in the second prompt. So, Iam not able to constrain the results. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    Steps:
    1. 1st Dashboard prompt set Presentation Variable name say pdashboardprompt1
    2. In 2nd Dashboard prompt set Presentation Variable name say pdashboardprompt2
In SHOW SQL results for 2nd Dashboard prompt. Select constraint
    SELECT Table1.Column1 FROM "SA" WHERE Table1.Column2 = '@{pdashboardprompt1}'

  • How to pass Presentation Variable Value from Main Report to Detail Report

    Hello,
I've 2 reports that is attached to each other. In my main report i've several report prompts and i am using i"s prompted" on my detail report to attach them.
    But 2 of my report prompts are presentation variables(Names : FIRST, SECOND). Both are in date format. I've a filter in my main report like;
    "ASSIGNMENTS_F"."EFFECTIVE_START_DATE" BETWEEN @{FIRST} AND {SECOND}
It works fine when i run the main report. But when i click on the numbers, i see that i can not filter my detail report with the chosen values for 2 presentation variables. It just shows all the dates.
I've tried adding both presentation variables in both reports as columns and adding 'is prompted' filter to them. But did not work either.
I just cant pass the written values for presentation variable prompts to detail report..
    Please help :)

    Hi,
What you can try is refer the filte condition in the main report to the detailed report with the option--> Filter based on another request.
Or you try creating another intermediate report which will refer the main report filters and pass the filters to the detailed report.
    Hope this helps.

  • Presentation Variables in the report column

    Hi Experts,
I have one requirement like when a Dealer log-in in the Monthly report there is one date prompt[format 1995/01] now i have to create one new column that column as to filter the data based on date selected by the Dealer in the prompt
and the filter should be like this
    case when
*date={selected date from prompt by the user}*
    then
*{monthly sales of that particular Dealer}*
result of this column i have to use in the other column.
how i have to implement this logic can we do this by using presentation variables please let me know the syntax.
    Thanks in Advance,

Write the case statement as below.
    case when
    date=@{Pv_Date}{1995}
    then
    {monthly sales of that particular Dealer}
Pv_Date is the presentation variable name.

  • Using multiple value presentation variable in a formula

I am using 11.1.1.5 version of OBIEE. I have a dashboard prompt that contains a value for a list of departments. I want the user to select multiple values. I am pushing these values into a presentation variable called deptname. I know would the multiple values in a formula. I want to do a filter using a statement like this. I don't get an error. It works for one value but not for many. I have tried to use it with an in clause but can't seem to get that to work either. Formula is below. I have also been playing around with quotes since these are strings. Any help is appreciated. I only want the value in the formula filtered not the whole report which is why I am doing it this way. The below works for one value. Returns blank for more than one value.
FILTER( "Fact Class Enrollment"."Units Taken") USING "Academic Organization"."Academic Organization Level 5 Desc" = '@{deptname}{Sociology}' )

  • Presentation variable in column formula issue

    Hi,
I'm having an issue about putting a presentation variable in a column formula. I'm using obiee 11.1.1.7.141014
I'm adding a text in a formula column where I use two presentation variables: pPeriodo and pAno
pPeriodo invoques the month selected in a prompt and pAno the year. I have to compare different years, so in one member I use @{pAno} when is the selected year and @{pAno-1} when is the prior year.
The result of this (please see the header of the 2nd column):
    The problem is when Icompare to next years. So my issue happens when I do an addition to the presentation variable: @{pAno+1}
It doesn't do the sum; it concatenates the value as you can see in the following images
If anyone have a workaround about this, please share.
    Regards,
    Miguel

    Hi Joven
    Try @{pAno}+1 instead of @{pAno+1}

What is the syntax error? If you make people have to guess or to examine intensely what you wrote, many will pass on your question, which I don't doubt people did.
Rather than dive into your syntax, read this blog entry by Venkat which perfectly describes how to build and use date prompts with BETWEEN, including the syntax of wrapping your date prompts with single quotes.

  • Presentation Variable Value not passing when used in Column Formula.

    Hello Gurus:
Please help me with my requirement.
We are trying to show a data backout in report, for example.
For a Product Group Code of 2435 which belongs to Report Line C059 has a Sales Amount of $4,266.90 and in report we want the same Sales Amount of $4,266.90 to be shown as -$4,266.90 (Negative) under a Report Line C080.
So in a report there should be same Sales Dollars as Positive for C059 (from Source) and Negative Sales Amount for C080 (Condition to be applied in Report).
    Solution I Tried
I tried to create a Presentation Variable (SQL- Which would fetch me Sales Dollars for Product Group Code 2453) which returns with $4266.90 and then applied it in Answers in Logic (Case when Report Line = C080 then @{Presentation Variable}*-1 Else Sales Dollars END).
    Issue I am facing:
Presentation Variable is coming as 0 and if i give any Format (Default Value) it shows the same default value in report. I checked the SQL i used and even when I Preview the Variable its showing me $4,266.90, but not in report.
Please let me know a way to get this Presentation Variable value into my reports.
Also please let me know if i can achieve this requirement in any other way.

Thanks for your reply Paul. But there is no Invoiced Amount for Report Line - 'C080' from source. Invoiced amount of C059 should show as -ve Invoiced amount for CO80.
In a report C059 should show +ve Sales Dollars and C080 should show same amount as -Ve Sales Dollars.

    Hi Rachit
You answered my doubt. This one really works . Thanks a lot !
But i have one more doubt i.e if have created the Presentation variable in the dashboard prompt and I want to use it in a report
i.e the scenario is If I have created a new column i.e " Revised Salary " in the Presentation Services and want the values to be entered there dynamically upon end users choice. For ex the end user selecrts value of 1 then the report would display an increament of 500 to all the employees in the " Revised Salary " column and if the end user select value of 2 .. the report would display a decrement of 500 in the " Revised salary column".
I am getting the following error :

Please NOTE : The column on which I want to do an increament is : "F1 Revenue"."1-01 Revenue (Sum All)"

  • Error using presentation variable in SQL Expression

    Hi all,
I'm receiving an error - '...Error getting drill information...' due to a presentation variable being used in a SQL Expression. It probably has something to do with a data type issue. I've narrowed the error to the use of the presentation variable.
I'm setting a presentation variable, pres_mth_nme_to, from a dashboard prompt. The prompt contains a month name.
I'm using the presentation variable as part of a SQL Expression in a filter. The gist of the SQL Expression is to use the
presentation variable in a CASE and set a value accordingly. For example:
    Column: Month Sort Value
    Operator: Between
    Value: *10*
SQL Expression: *Case  @{pres_mth_nme_to}{some default} WHEN 'NOV' THEN '10' WHEN 'DEC' THEN '11' WHEN 'JAN' THEN '12' WHEN 'FEB' THEN '13' WHEN...END*
The month name is character. If I were to hard code this, I don't recieve the error. For example:
CASE 'SEP' WHEN 'NOV' THEN '10' WHEN 'DEC' ...END
There something going on with the data type from the prompt and it being used in the comparison. If I use a CAST, the problem still exists.
CASE CAST(@{pres_mth_nme_to} as char(3)) WHEN 'NOV' THEN ... END
If I'm in Answers, the problem doesn't exist, I'm assuming because of the default values. If I'm on the dashboard, it does exist, I'm assuming because of recieving the prompt value.
I don't know what I'm missing. Any suggestions?
    Thanks.

    DJ,
if the formula presented by you is exactly true, i mean it was not fabricated to present as an example in the forum, you should include the presentation variable in single quotes.
i.e. your formula must look somthing like
Case '@{pres_mth_nme_to}{some default}' WHEN 'NOV' THEN '10' WHEN 'DEC' THEN '11' WHEN 'JAN' THEN '12' WHEN 'FEB' THEN '13' WHEN...END
let me know if it did solve the issue...

  • OBIEE 11g Front End Calculations with Presentation Variables Error

    Hi Guru's,
Long time user first time poster to the forums but hopefully you can help.
I have a requirement to perform an aggregation on certain fields with a dynamic grouping requirement (so users can select which grouping they require ie, sum profit by [outlets or companies or region]).
The approach I am using is a prompt setting a presentation variable with the possible groupings for the calculation as choices, and a column in the report with a formula to SUM("table"."column" by "@{variable}{default}") this also contains a dynamic column name containing the presentation variable too.
Where the column could be profit and the variable prompt options could be outlet, company or region (from the above example).
This is currently separate from the RPD due to the dynamic nature required with groupings changing at run time and is done in the front end.
However on selecting some columns via the prompt I receive this error:
    Error Codes: OPR4ONWY:U9IM8TAC:OI2DL65P
State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS. [nQSError: 22027] Union of non-compatible types. (HY000)
This only occurs on some field groupings, and is not a certain type in particular. (Including both short date, short time and varchars).
Any ideas where this problem could stem from?
    Regards.

Based on given info: Try this
    SUM(cast("table"."column" as int) by "@{variable}{default}")
    Pls mark if helps
