Found Fix for rMBP Creaking Palmrest

Hi guys -- I just wanted to let you all know that I was having the problem with the Retina MacBook Pro creaking whenever I touched or pressed on the right palm rest.
I lived with this problem for months -- but the fix actually turned out to be quite simple in my case:
1)  Remove the bottom cover
2)  You'll notice that there is a plastic divider separating the the battery packs from one another.  The problem is that one of the dividers is causing the creak whenever it rubs against the battery.  Press gently on the top of the plastic divider -- if this is your problem you will hear the same creak you hear when you rest your palm on the palmrest.
3)  Place a thin object (like a folded over piece of paper or perhaps electrical tape) between the battery pack and the plastic divider
4)  Press on the top of the divider again and confirm that the sound does not happen
5)  Replace the cover
You should now be good to go.
Good luck!

Your MacBook is a notebook, not a laptop
When you’re using your MacBook or charging the battery, it's normal for the bottom of the case to get warm. For prolonged use, place your Macbook on a flat, stable surface. Do not place your Macbook on your lap or other body surface for extended periods of time. Prolonged body contact can cause discomfort and potentially a burn. The bottom of the Macbook case functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the computer to the cooler air outside. The bottom of the case is raised slightly to allow airflow, which keeps the unit within normal operating temperatures. In addition, warm air is vented from the slots in the back of the case. This is why your Macbook is a notebook and not a laptop, additionally the monitors on Macbook notebooks do not lay flat as in the case of many laptops. Again, use a lapdesk if you want or plan on using your Macbook on your lap.
its called bottom plate pop,  pick it up and lift if from the center, or preferably front and back center and it will not happen.

  • Found Fix For error msg 4001

    Two fixes I've found:
    - In iTunes open the 'Store' menu bar item
    - Hold down the 'Option' key and click 'Turn Off iTunes Match'
    - Now reopen the 'Store' menu bar item and normal click 'Turn On iTunes Match'
    You're set!
    OORRR
I came from the other thread of the same issue. Just I wanted to post the other way resolved the issue, for some reason, for me. I did these:
    1. Press Command-J > Check iCloud Status checkbox.
    2. Select one song in 'Music' > Right click the song > Click "Add to iCloud"
And it started the first step in the Match. And it went through the step 2 without the error! The process is now in the step 3, uploading songs. Weird, but this was the way the issue was resolved in my case.
    Good Luck!

You know what, I had a similar issue to what you are experiencing. Although I was just using Power Shell to interact with the Alert objects of one particular sub-site.
I found that I had about 10 alerts where the $alert.User value was null.
What I did to correct this was Grab a user object and update all the alerts that had a null user to a valid user object.  Once the user object was associated.  I was then able to delete the alerts.
The user I selected had odd behavior in the alerts page:
    http://yoursite.hostheaderurl/yoursubsiteurl/_layouts/SiteSubs.aspx
One user in the "Display Alerts" field was acting odd.
When I selected the user no alerts displayed.
When I selected any other user in the options alerts did display.
So I figured this user was probably the owner of the alerts missing a user value.
I used this user as the basis to grab a user object off of to update the alerts to.

  • Found Fix for "Media Pending" with MPEG Videos (after 4 years)

    This is for Premiere CS3.
Very often, if you make any changes to your system, or move files around, Premiere can lose track of the database that keeps track of MPEG2 video clips. The result is a persistent Media Pending display instead of your video. Cleaning the Media Cache doesn't fix it. Deleting all the temp folder media cache doesn't either. Here's what I found that works:
    Go into this folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<User Name>\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\3.0\MediaIO\Cache
The <User Name> will be your login name of the Windows account.
Delete all the files that are in this folder.
Restart Premiere and watch it re index your video and your video reapear again.
Took me FOUR YEARS to discover this one on my own!

  • Found Fix for "unexpected-end-of-file" error for Photoshop

    NOTE:
You will lose all layers (this process flattens the image, but it's better than nothing).
You need to have Adobe Illustrator installed (you could get a trial version or something if you don't have it).
I was using Windows 7 when I did this, so it may not work in OSX (Apple) or Windows 8.
             1. Right click on the corrupt document and open it in Illustrator. (Mine took a while so you may have to wait)
             2. Save the file as a .pdf
             3. Right click on the .pdf and open it in Photoshop.
Sorry, I know i started a discussion but I can't figure out how to answer a post.

    Hi Oliverchuckle
I tried this on my first encounter of the error and it works pretty good for simple PSD files but not on complex ones containing vector masks etc. And it will not work on larger PSD files that are more damaged and "unreadable".
There are many things that can cause this - all related primarily to the state of the network or hard drive the file is being saved to.
    To avoid:
work off your local machine hard drive (not a network drive)
ensure that you have ample (scratch) disk space (at least 20% free)
create multiple versions of your files with save as. You can always trash the ones you don't want when you're done.
Recovery depends on how far the save function got before photoshop (or your computer) crashed. In many cases only the file header information is damaged. For larger files the damage can be more extensive.
In all cases, the best recovery method is to open the file with Adobe Image Ready and save as. It may give a "file is unreadable" error while opening but usually manages to still open the file. In my testing, the results are 100% accurate (to whatever state the file existed in). In most cases the file was 100% recovered, including complex files containing vector and layer masks, clippings and groups. I cannot say this is the case for any of the paid for "repair PSD" utilities which extract a raster only version of each layer and then re-build the layers into a new psd file. This results in a limited, "destructive" or rasterized layered file.
Unfortunately, Adobe Image Ready is hard to find. The last version I believe was V9 (“CS2″), May 2005.
Adobe is offering a legacy download here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs2-product-downloads.html#
for users who previously purchased it (and need to re-install it). I didn't try this as I still have CS2 already installed on an older machine. Note, you will need MacOS 10.6.8 running rosetta or older to instal on a Mac.
    Hope this helps!

  • Found fix for iOS 6 wifi issues

go to settings-safari-turn off "use cellular data"-connect to wifi-go back and turn it on again.

If you are having the issue where it takes you to a login page, goto Settings > WiFi and tap on the blue button to the right of your network name. There'll probably be an option to auto-join and you'll want to toggle that. If it's off, turn it on then back off. If it's on, toggle it off. If prompted to login again, just hit Cancel in the upper-right. Now goto Safari app and you should be prompted to connect to your network at which time it should work. It did for me at least and a friend of mine.

  • FOUND FIX for WiFi problem

Those of you having WiFi issues, I discovered what I believe to be is the problem.
    *_The Problem_*
The software 2.0 update is putting the "Router" address into the "DNS" address, on the iphone, which of course doesn't work.
    *_The Solution_*
-Look up your DNS information on your home router.
-On your iPhone, go into: Settings/Wi-Fi/'your network', you should see the IP address, subnet, router and DNS information.
-Type in the DNS information from your home Router into the DNS field in your iPhone.
    -Open Safari and enjoy!

Although secretly swapping phones with your wife would be funny, probably wouldn't be a good idea in the long run
Make sure that the IP address on your phone and your wife's phone don't match. The problem may be that your phone is trying to use the same IP address as your wife's phone. If it is, do a "reset all network settings" on your phone and check to see if a different IP address gets assigned to your phone than your wife's phone.
However, the DNS addresses can be the same. I usually just use the first DNS entry out of the list of 2 DNS entries on my router.

  • Less destructive fix for the "original file could not be found" issue

+(Note: this is mostly a copy of the post I just submitted in reply to http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6785594#6785594)+
Most solutions to the "The song xxx could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" issue involve deleting iTunes library files, deleting-then-re-importing everything from iTunes, and other destructive techniques. I found an easier fix for this, but it might be (a) specific to libraries on a network drive (NAS) or (b) specific to me. YMMV, but give it a try. This was on a Mac, so a Windows solution might exist with the same technique. Please post here and let me know if this works for you!
After some investigating and trial-and-error, I discovered that if I viewed a list of songs in Finder, iTunes could find the files again. For example:
*Double click on a song in iTunes and get the "original file could not be found..." error. Do not say 'Yes' to locating it.
*Open Finder and locate that Folder of songs
*Double-click on another song from that album. It should work.
So, my fix: *run a command that lists/touches every file in your iTunes music folder.*
    For Macs:
    *Open Terminal
*Run this: *ls -R /Path/To/Your/iTunes\ Music \Folder/* (note how you 'escape' spaces in the folder name with back-slashes).
    Windows:
    *Start - Run - cmd
*Run this: dir /s \Path\To\Your\"iTunes Music Folder" (note that you escape spaces by quoting the dir name.)
My NAS is named "VAULT" so my command was "ls -R /Volumes/VAULT/My\ Music/" You will see the files being listed at light speed -- ignore this. It will run for a while, depending on how many files you have, about 30 seconds for me. After executing this I could listen to any music file in iTunes!
But, every time I lost my connection to my NAS, such as waking from sleep mode, I had to run it again. So I created an Automator application and a Apple Script to run it from within iTunes so I can run it any time I need to. If you don't want to do that, just run the command I specified. If you want to download my Automator app, or see instructions on how to create your own, check out my blog post: http://40withegg.com/2008/3/8/mac-attack-making-itunes-find-those-original-files -especially-on-a-nas
With any luck, my post will be *completely unnecessary* soon because Apple will find a real solution to this.

    Jeffe hello,
I have seen more problems created by the consolidate command than I have ever seen fix things... I'm not saying it does not work but what it does do and what it does not is very hard to work out for most and major problems are the result...
to sort your problem do this...
    1. Open your iTunes folder in the Home Music folder and make a backup copy of the iTunes Library file and put on the desktop.
    2. Start iTunes and in the Library sort on the Heading 'Date added' ... you may need to install it... control/click on heading-bar and select from popup menu.
    3. When you have sorted scroll to half way and you will see the songs are split evenly... select the ones you want to remove with a shift/click and hit delete key... say no about move to trash for now.
    4. Check that everything is as you want it... if so carry on... if not come back and tell me what happened.
    5. Quit iTunes and put the iTunes Library file in the iTunes folder in a safe place like your Documents folder... drag the copy from desktop and put it in the iTunes folder.
    6. Check the name is correct on the 'copy' edit it to be iTunes Library.
    7. Start iTunes by double/clicking on the file and go through steps 2 & 3 again but this time when you delete say yes about move to trash... don't empty it yet 1st check that all is OK with your library.
You can edit the good files that you are left with but the addition of '01' in the name will not have any adverse effect on them at all... editing with an Applescript is very easy.
take care Jeffe and let's know how you get on or if you run into any unforeseen problems ... TP

  • In Adobe Pro XI when converting an excel file to a pdf, the pdf is not retaining the page size settings.  Has anyone found a fix for this?

In Adobe Pro XI when converting an excel file to a pdf, the pdf is not retaining the page size settings.  Has anyone found a fix for this?

It shouldn't print each page as a separate job and
each tab has a different name, so, even if it did, it
ought to give the printouts the name of the tabs.
It doesn't print each page as a separate job unless the orientation is different - that's the bug. And the name of the job is taken from the name of the window, not the name of the tabs. That's how every application works, which, I think, is why Excel allows the specific selection or the active sheets to be printed.
Still, that does sound like a plausible explanation.
However, even if presented with multiple prints with
the same name, the spooler should print each one!
The spooler does print each one - you can watch the spooler process the multiple jobs. I think, though, that they are being overwritten since all the jobs have the name of the window as the job title. And since this happens after the Save Dialog is presented, there's really nothing the application can do. To Excel, it's one job, the multiple orientations don't matter; it's just that Apple doesn't handle it correctly.
As a workaround, you can print the selections one at a time and give them unique names and then rejoin them in one PDF file.

  • FOUND A FIX FOR ADOBE FLASH PLAYER 11.9.900.152

I have Windows 7, 64bit and Internet Explorer 11 installed.  I found the fix for Adobe Flash Player after 2 days of doing everything.  I thought that the fix should be something very easy and it was.  I spent 2 full days doing all kinds of ridiculous things, i.e. uninstalling, reinstalling, restore computer, deactiving XActive, reactivating, changing stuff under internet options, etc.  The problem was Internet Explorer 11 update caused Adobe Flash Player not to work or recognize the flash player, or installing a new router caused it not to work.  Websites kept displaying messages to download Adobe Flash Player when I already did.  There appeared to be a conflict where some videos played and other did not.  Youtube did not work anymore.  All the problems that other people posted under these forums happened to me.  I could not play the games I was playing before, etc.  Anyway, I am NOT a tech person and understand little and almost gave up when by accident I found the fix and EVERYTHING works without rebooting anything, uninstalling or reinstalling etc. as all the people in the forums posted.  Everything was so complicated!!
THE FIX:  Go to Goodgle Chrome browser.  If you don't have it, download it.  The Adobe Flash Player is included in this browser.  Anyway, at the very top RIGHT HAND SIDE there are lines in a square formation.  Click on that and go to SETTINGS.  Go to very bottom and click on SHOW ADVANCED SETTINGS.  SCROLL DOWN TO THE VERY BOTTOM and click on RESET BROWSER SETTINGS.  After I did that, EVERYTHING WORKED!!!!!!!!!!! Youtube worked, my game worked in BOTH GOOGLE CHROME AND INTERNET EXPLORER 11.  It was like a miracle and  a simple fix.
I hope I can save some people ALOT of aggravation and frustration.  Adobe should have this fix displayed PROMINENTLY EVERYWHERE if it is indeed this simple.  Let me know if this helps.  All I know is that I had the same issues as everyone else in the forums and now it is all fixed.  I have very limited knowledge, almost none.  It just seemed that something was blocking the videos from coming up.

Thanks Mike.  I'm not sure what I'm doing but I also re-downloaded the flash player and I got YouTube videos to play again.  I have IE11 that I tried to uninstall (it won't let me) so I had to use a restore point, so videos I noticed in yahoo.ca can't play but I read lots of people having issues with this.  But, by using a restore point, and re-downloading the flash player (a couple of time until it took), I got Youtube and my game back on IE11.  I plan to use Chrome Google though after this experience as everything works there

    Hello Turintest2,
I am having a similar problem.  I have over 4000 songs giving me this error.  I certainily don't want to go in one by one and find them.  I know you wrote a script for Windows but I am a Mac user.  Is there a fix for me?  Here is the info on where the song is currently (used by doing the get info)
Here's a shot of my preferences:
Just FYI, I know that apparently iTunes is looking for this music in the trash.  However, if I go here:
Then I find the music there as well.  (Which is where it is in my preferences.)
Please help!  I don't want to have to go through over 4000 songs and update them one by one.

  • I need a permanent fix for the 'mail server not found' bug (iPad 2 3G)

This problem started happening on my iPad 2 (3G AT&amp;T) about 2 months ago. I found the fix posted numerous times on this forum> delete your mail applications &amp; reinstall them which I did (deleted &amp; reinstalled both my gmail &amp; yahoo accts). Same problem reappeared about 2 wks later so I repeated the fix. It happened a 3rd time this wk so I repeated this fix a THIRD time before I left town a few days ago. Here I am 3 days later &amp; it's back AGAIN.  FYI...ALL the apps are up to date on my iMac &amp; iPad 2.  Can anyone tell me when the fix for this bug is going to be released &amp; what the work-around is?

You have to purchase a data plan to use 3G data but you don't have to purchase a data plan for the iPad to work.  You will have full function of the device without a data plan, as long as you have wifi available.
I also have an iPad2 3G.  I only sign up for 3G service when I need it, i.e. travelling for an extended period.  The rest of the time, I just use wifi at home or whereever I can.

  • Anybody found a fix for the netstream.seek bug?

The bug I am talking about is only being able to seek to a point in a video that the play head has been before.
Here is how the bug is described at :http://www.brooksandrus.com/blog/2005/12/17/5-reasons-netstream-sucks/
"Seeking is super slow until all keyframes are cached. No bull, if you have a file which you’ve completely preloaded, the keyframes aren’t cached until the video playhead reaches that point in time for the first time. If I load a file and seek to the end, the player has to chug through all of the keyframes prior to my seek point. This is slow, slow if I have video of even several minutes."
That was posted 5 years ago. I have found the bug referenced in the following posts:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/1917914#1917914
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/692394?tstart=0
I would assume that since this bug has been around for at least 5 years, there would a bug report filed for it or a work around found. But I can't seem to find either.
I have tried multiple codecs and encodings with no luck. I'm having a hard time accepting that there is not fix for this problem. Flash has to read and cache the key frame information of the entire video before being able to seek to the end. Does anybody know where the flash player writes this information? Let me be clear, this is not streaming video, this is video that is running local off the hard drive. The flash player stores this key frame information somewhere until the computer is restarted. At that point when the video is played again, it has to read the entire file again. You can close and open the player multiple times and it will only perform the caching the first time and not again until a computer restart.
again, I am not trying to seek to a point that has not been loaded yet. This is a swf that loads a video off the hard drive.
One that that I have noticed is that when H.264 files are loaded, the player immediately performs the caching scan before it begins to play. When it is finished, you can seek to any point quickly. The time it takes for the caching scan is dependent upon the size of the file and the number of keyframes it has. Whereas the rest of the video codecs will play immediately but will only seek quickly to cached keyframes.
I have only seen this problem discussed in a few spots, with no solutions. it is a very old bug. Has anybody found a fix, work around or bug report on it?
    Thanks for your help

This was reply origionally but I felt I should post it. It seems to be a common problem and I was unable to find a resolution so here it is....
I found a fix for something similar that occurred on my machine. I too was seeing no problems locally but when I posted it to my site, it just had the placeholder and no images....
Apparently, dreamweaver is smarter than the browser... (maybe incorrect statement) however..... the file extensions are case sensitive!
    I had this-------- <A href="Img/CGM_1.JPG" border="0"  rel="lightbox[Img/CGM_1thumb.JPG]" title="CGM Pic Set"><img src="Img/CGM_1thumb.JPG" /></a>
    <a href="Img/CGM_2.jpg" rel="lightbox[Img/CGM_1thumb.JPG]"></a>
                      <a href="Img/CGM_3.jpg" rel="lightbox[Img/CGM_1thumb.JPG]"></a>
                      <a href="Img/CGM_4.jpg" rel="lightbox[Img/CGM_1thumb.JPG]"></a>
Well, I didnt think anything was so bad, all of the colors were right I wasn't getting any warnings.... wtf?
As it turns out, and this is only because I just started a new image set after testing an individual - - baby steps - - if you use the properties bar at the bottom of DW, it applies a different case for specific parts...... i.e. this is what it produced
    <A HREF="Img/CGM_1.jpg" border="0"  rel="lightbox[Img/CGM_1thumb.jpg]" title="CGM Pic Set"><img src="Img/CGM_1thumb.jpg" /></a>
                      <a HREF="Img/CGM_2.jpg" rel="lightbox[Img/CGM_1thumb.jpg]"></a>
                      <a HREF="Img/CGM_3.jpg" rel="lightbox[Img/CGM_1thumb.jpg]"></a>
                      <a HREF="Img/CGM_4.jpg" rel="lightbox[Img/CGM_1thumb.jpg]"></a>
Notice the HREF's are now UPPER case and the jpg's are now lower case. !!!! really?!?!?
Also, another thing to look out for is the folder/ in front of your thumbnail; make sure it is there. In my case I use my sam "Img" folder, not the "images" folder that lightbox creates.
Hope this helps, I beat my head against the wall for a total of 10 hours over 2 days trying to figure this out. I couldn't find anything on the internet. I'm going to post this so others having this issue get it resolved. I found those, just no resolution.

    Thanks for your quick response
I tried what you said and I still had no avail...
There is a style.css file in the root directory but for some reason you cant access it...
I checked the file permissions of style.css and they are: 644
Its really wierd - I dont understand why it isnt reading...
Also regarding {www.care.cc} all of my clients websites are under the same web hosting service, so he set the default "404 page not found" redirects to {www.care.cc} which is their "Main Site" as such - I understand that this is bad practice but unfortunatley I have no control over these matters as I have limited access too my clients web hosting.
    Thanks again for the Help

  • Possible fix for CPU temp problem found.

Well, one day I decided to take the heatsink off of the nForce3 chip and put some good ol' Arctic Silver thermal compound on there.  I figured it might help with overclocking and whatnot.  When I took it off, look what I found(!):
Imagine my surprise!  Why did they even bother?  Ridiculous.  After removing their mistake, I put some Arctic Silver on there and re-attached the MSI heatsink (someday I'll probably buy a much better one for it).  I've noticed after a couple of days (it takes a little while for the thermal compound to set in) that the CPU temp doesn't appear to fluctuate wildly anymore.  Before I was getting crazy jumps from 45C to 65C, but now it hovers around 45C-47C idle and a little over 50C stressed.  I've also noticed that my overclocks are a bit more stable now too.  For those of you wondering, I'm using BIOS v1.1 at the moment (haven't tried v1.42 yet).
Can anyone confirm these findings?  Maybe something else I did fixed my CPU temp issue (I do fiddle with the BIOS quite a bit).  My guess is that the nForce3 has a part in determining/reporting the CPU temperature.
I hope this actually is a fix for some of you out there, but don't get your hopes up too high until at least one other person can confirm my theory.

It's very easy to remove the MSI plate. Using a pair of needle-nose pliers pinch the fins on the heat sink on one side together (one at the top, one at the bottom). You don't have to do it too much and be careful. This provides enough slack for the plate to drop out with some slight assistance. Well, that's how I did mine.
I then attached a 40mm fan by screwing into the gaps between the two fins. Only on the one side mind (so 2 screws in total). It holds the fan fine, no rattling.
I have some Artic Silver adhesive and I did consider leaving the MSI plate in place and fixing the fan to it. But I wasn't sure how secure it would be. Plus the plate rattles already, imagine how it would behave with a fan stuck to it.
Unfortunately, I forgot to make a note of the NB temperature before I did it. And I can't for the life of me remember what it was. So I can't say, for sure, how it has effected the temperature. I'm sure it has though.
I suppose it's easy enough to disconnect the fan to find out. I might try that later...
Running at 230x10 (stock = 200x10), MBM reports:
    Case = 37C
    CPU = 35C
    Sensor 3 = 49C
The sensors are labelled by MBM, so I am assuming they respond to the correct items, ie the CPU temp is actually the CPU temp.
This is after a hour or so with Azureus running, mIRC open, a couple of IE windows and SETI running at ~97% CPU
When I take the side off to disconnect the fan again, I will take a picture.

Do you mean a restore to factory settings?. If so did you set up as new or restore from back up afterwards?
