Fragmentation vs where clause obiee 10g rpd

fragmentation vs where clause
In obiee we can do fragmentation of table.
for example if i have data from a to z. iam fragmenting data
from a to m in on LTS and M to Z in another.
this we can do with the where clause like in one LTS
data from A to Z by using where clause .. what is difference.
please help me.. any performance issues.
thank you.

In an enterprise world, data is often partitioned into multpile physical sources for a single logical table. This helps in organised data set with faster query results fetching. In such cases, BI server should know where to go for what type of data and under what conditions. Hence the fragmentation is defined to to handle efficient access by navigation to the appropriate physical source as per the request.
e.g. there may be an aggregate table and a detailed table being accessed for different requests appropriately.
This helps in performance improvement.
Adding a where clause will still refer to the same table source hence no benefit of this feature is exhibited in this scenario.

• Problem with SYS_CONTEXT in WHERE clause in 10g

I am running the following SELECT statement in 9i and 10g
SELECT COUNT(*)
FROM mapinfo.mapinfo_mapcatalog
WHERE tablename IN ('ESU_GRAPHICS', 'STREETS', 'ASD_STREETS', 'NSG_ARCHIVE_ESU_GRAPHICS')
AND ownername = sys_context('USERENV','CURRENT_SCHEMA');
When running in 9i it returns 4, the correct answer, but in 10g it always returns 0. I have tried populating a variable with the result from sys_context('USERENV','CURRENT_SCHEMA') such as:
SELECT sys_context('USERENV','CURRENT_SCHEMA')
INTO currentschema
FROM dual;
I have checked the variable and it is giving me the correct result in 10g, but I still get 0 returned from the select statement.
What am I missing to get this working in 10g?
Cheers
Sean

- Does the value for CURRENT_SCHEMA actually match
the ownername column for the tables in your IN
clause? Yes
>
- Is there anything different between 9i and 10g?
E.g. did you have any fine grained access control? Not that I know of, but I am not a DBA so I could not say for sure.
Were you setting CURRENT_SCHEMA with an ALTER SESSION
statement in 9i that you have missed in your 10g
environment? No we do not use any ALTER SESSION statements.
>
- What do you get if you run the following?
select user from dual;
select sys_context('USERENV','CURRENT_SCHEMA') from
dual;
Exactly the same result
>
- What do you get if you run the following?
SELECT tablename, ownername FROM
mapinfo.mapinfo_mapcatalog
WHERE tablename IN ('ESU_GRAPHICS', 'STREETS',
'ASD_STREETS', 'NSG_ARCHIVE_ESU_GRAPHICS');
380 rows of data including the 4 that I am interested in
- Can you also show the value of your variable when
you use a SELECT INTO in PL/SQL... Were you using
uppercase for USERENV and CURRENT_SCHEMA in PL/SQL
(there was an incorrect results bug when using
lowercase attributes in PL/SQL SYS_CONTEXT calls)?I am showing the value of the variable and it is holding the correct value, and yes I am using uppercase USERENV and CURRENT_SCHEMA.
After more investigation it looks like it is not SYS_CONTEXT, it is using a variable in the WHERE clause. If I set the variable to a hard coded value I still get the same result. If I replace the variable for a hard-coded string in the WHERE clause I get the correct result.

• OBIEE 10g RPD Paswword Reset not working

I have gotten 2 10g RPDs, the password of which I do not know. I ma trying to change/ reset the password by making use of the technique wherein "AUTHENTICATION_TYPE = BYPASS_NQS;" is uncommented within the NQSConfig.ini file. It does not seem to be working. I have also changed the Default RPD name within the config file to the new RPD alongside ensuring there are no gaps/ spaces in the RPD name which are the common pitfalls.
The strange part is that it did work with another 10g RPD couple of weeks back but is not working with the two RPDs I got yesterday. I have just the client 10.1.3.4.2 installed so eliminates the possibility of the BI server being up and running.
Is there anything else that could be preventing/ hindering this?

Nope. Did not work. Message returned back is that the existing password does not match the RPD password.
I have pasted the NQSConfig.ini file from "OracleBI\server\Config" below, just in case I am overlooking something that you happen to spot that might be preventing the overwrite:

looks like there is a way to recover the lost passwords for RPD's using listcred() method of wlst
look at the following doc http://www.rittmanmead.com/2011/04/oracle-bi-ee-11g-migrating-security-credential-store-part-3/
Listing the Credential in Dev Environment:
All the Credential Keys are generally stored in an encrypted format (the passwords). So, to migrate we will need to first extract these passwords and then do the migration to Production. The passwords can be extracted through the listCred() method of WLST. We need to be connected to the Admin Server for this method to work. The exact command is given below
connect(“weblogic”,”welcome1″,”localhost:7001″)
listCred(“DevMap”,”DevKey”)
This will show the encrypted password entered inside the key as shown below
And this is what we see in the enterprise manager.
As you see, with listCred we are able to extract the full credentials. Now, lets try to see what is the default password for the BISystemUser.
listCred(“oracle.bi.system”,”system.user”)
In the same way lets extract the passwords of the SampleAppLite repository.
listCred(“oracle.bi.enterprise”,”repository.SampleAppLite”)
With this we can even extract the lost Repository passwords."
i am going to try it out now

• Can we import any Materialized views (MV'S) in OBIEE 10g

Hi guys,
Could you please tell me is there any chance to import any Materialized views in OBIEE ?
I am using obiee 10g RPD.or how to create MV'S In OBIEE.?
What is use of MV in obiee?
Pls reply to this .

Hi,
Materialized view:Aggregate table are called as Materialized view/opaque View
Steps to create Materialized view/opaque View
Physical layer itself by creating view.
Right click on the your RPD physical table -> Select Properties -> from the properties windows choose 'Select' as Table type -> here you can write the SQL query.
Note:Make Sure 'Features' tab and from the available option select 'CREATE_VIEW_SUPPORTED' is checked or not. If it is not checked then check the option.

• OBIEE 10G - Repository Documentation

Hi all,
When I am generating RPD Documentation for my OBIEE 10G RPD, there are few presentation columns for which there are no physical columns.
These measures are not calculated columns, and when I check the relevant physical columns it directs to correct physical tables and columns.
Since my RPD is very large i tried removing other subject areas as well but still not help..
Any help would be appreciated.
thanks

There might be few columns in BMM with expression as '' or any these may not have direct physical sources. Other than these I dont think any case for that. can you double check by opening document file in Excel?
PS: Update your display name with name

• EPMMaster.rpd Fusion Pack migration from OBIEE 10g to 11g

We have successfully installed OBIEE 10g and 11g on Windows 2008 32bit servers. On the 10g Installation, we have applied the Fusion Pack EPMMaster RPD file and it connects successfully to our EPM warehouse. We want to migrate the Fusion pack to 11g which is also setup on the same platform. Per the instructions in the documentation, we have copied the files (RPD file and Webcat folder) to the 11g server. We run the UA.bat file and it proceeds to start copying the files over fom the RPD and WebCatalog to the new system. It completes this process, but then hangs on starting the Oracle BI server - it never gets beyond that.
We will be purchasing the EPMMaster RPD and know it is not available yet for 11g – however we’re trying to get ahead of the curve a bit and manually fix the items in the presentation layer that will not render correctly in 11g
upgrade exception occurred
Unable to start process: instance1: coreapplication_obis1
One thing that I noticed – Since the UA tool does not completely finish --
RPD size on 10g – 42,675KB; 11g – 6,375KB
I manually change the webcat in Enterprise Manager to the EPMMaster catalog -this actually caused additional errors on restart.
Has anyone attempted upgrading a delivered RPD to 11g?
Thanks in advance -

This is a known issue that we have worked through with Oracle tech support. The Dimension Deduction.Deduction Sid causes an error that prevents the UA tool from completing the upgrade process. There are a couple of ways around this, but the fastest is to simply delete the Dimension, the two related hierarchies and the fact table that is joined to this dimension. Physical table do not need to be touched however. There are still issues once it’s moved to 11g, but those can be addressed post migration. Thanks much to the Oracle support team for helping us out with this issue!

• Difference of 'Specify Fragmentation Content' and 'where clause Filter ' ?

What is the difference of ‘Specify Fragmentation Content’ and ‘where clause Filter ‘
As per my understanding Both looks like limit the data ?

'Specify Fragmentation Content’ is for Union-ing tables, e.g. one table has data for 2008 while other has 2005-2007, so 'Specify Fragmentation Content’ tells server where to go look for data.
'Where clause Filter' is for limiting data from the table, e.g. where status = 'Funded'

• OBIEE 10g/11g RPD as a Data Source - Driver Name for metadata imports

Hi,
I'm trying to use OBIEE's RPD as a relational source in Informatica 9.5.1 PowerCenter Designer. I have the ODBC connection to the OBIEE's BI Server and can connect to it. I'm using OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 (I also need to do something similar with OBIEE 11g). I've posted this question to the Informatica forum as well.
In order to use OBIEE as a third-party relational data source, Informatica needs OBIEE's DLL for metadata imports.
I've tried, with no luck, NQSODBC.DLL & NQSDRIVER.DLL.
Does anyone know what DLL it might be? It could be an issue on Informatica's end as well.
Thanks.

Hi,
For some more details, you can refer to the following document;
http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/developer-tools/discoverer/discoverer-metadata-conversion-assi-128504.pdf
My personal expreriences:
The Metadata Conversion Utility is an accellerator / assistant. It does not provide you with an end product. There is some additional handwork requiered. It could be a risk when you copy an old Oracle Discoverer environment. Shit in is shit out. Last but not least; There is not yet a workbook migration utility.

• Filter on the reports created using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS in obiee 10g

How do i filter on the report that is created by using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS in obiee 10g?
I have reprot A with link to report B, report B is created using DIRECT DATABASE ACCESS. so it is just a table, but i need to filter out 2 columns.
here is the query in REPORT B:
select strm, acad_group, crse_id, class_section, count(emplid) from v_crse_enrl
group by crse_id, strm, class_section, acad_group;
the link in REPORT A:

from this link to report B.
thank you!!

I didnt tested using url, but the same works with using presentation variables.
To your direct sql add where clause for those two columns like WHERE col='@{col1}' and col ='@{col2}'
and try to run from url.

Anyone experiencing the same problem? The strange thing is that I have a number of similar reports (on other subject areas) and everyting is working fine.
Please also note that I don't want to add this kind of calculated items in the RPD (they can be simple calculations that are made on-the-fly).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks a lot and regards,
Cristina

I have the same issue, everything OBIEE server generate query using ROW_NUMBER() over () function, it will hardcode Dx.cx = 1, this will cause issue if you have rows of the same distinct value, thus causing missing rows and the final results will be wrong.
I have open a SR with Oracle Support since March 2011, but till today, they have not resolve the issue yet.
Hope they solve the issue soon.
Best Regards

• OBIEE 10g security.

Hi,
We have OBIEE 10g version and trying to implemented data security using rpd user groups and filters. Now the requirement is to implement writeback functionality; where user should see example, 5 rows but can update only 2 rows based on some condition. Any ideas if it can be achieved and how?
Regards,
Ven

Hi,
Try to refer below my blog and for the dataset - update/insert implement data level security by group wise then it will work

• Error in reports after upgrade from OBIEE 10g to 11g : [nQSError: 14025]

Hi All, We upgraded RPD and web catalog from OBIEE 10g to 11.1.1.5. I see the following error while running few reports.
Error: State: HY000. Code: 10058. [NQODBC] [SQL_STATE: HY000] [nQSError: 10058] A
general error has occurred. [nQSError: 43113] Message returned from OBIS.
[nQSError: 14025] No fact table exists at the requested level of detail:
When I add an user under BIAdministrator Application role and login, all the reports work correctly.
I verified Oracle BUG fix (11850704) document and tried to make changes as suggested.
Please suggest me if this issue is related to 10g to 11g RPD upgrade or are we missing any privileges?
Also should I add every user to BIAdministrator role to avoid this issue?
Thanks in Advance

Hi,
First of all i am not familiar on linux box.
I tried in windows environment the rpd is deployed with out any errors.
But i ran the ua.bat file in the following path

while i am running in oracle_common\bin\ua.bat is not responding in my local system.
Please Mark if it helpful.

• OBIEE 10G SSO Issue

HI
We have configured OBIEE 10g on IIS (ver-6) server. We have a business requirement where we need to integrate OBIEE with another ASP.NET application. So, user should log in once and to view OBIEE reports he should not log in again.
Now we have checked GO URL option given in Chapter 11 of Oracle® Business Intelligence Presentation Services Administration Guide. But problem is our company policy does not allow us to pass Password in HTTP URL. So we cannot use that solution.
We are trying to use SSO and referred to Chapter 8 of Deployment Guide. We followed all the steps give in that chapter
Also, we modified isapiconfig.xml and entered <CredentialStore> paramaters in it.
But when we Go to Analytics URL (for remote machine) Login screen show "Not Logged In" message.
currently we are using REMOTE_USER method as it is given in documention.
So we did everything by the book. Now my question is:
1) We do not have any SSO server/Product, is there is any way we can integrate OBIEE application to other ASP.Net application on another IIS SERVER? There was a suggestion that if we pass remoter_user parameter in HTTP header, is it possible to work this way.
2) Is it possible that if we host both the ASP.NET and OBIEE 10g on SAME IIS server there is way to integrate them using SSO without any SSO server again by passing remote_user HTTP header
3) What options do we have to integrate ASP.NET application and OBIEE without using SSO server itself and without using GO url method as we cannot pass password in header. Will Cookie Enabling Method can work in this scenerio.
4) Is there is way that OBIEE directly take windows ID without SSO server, I know question might sound stupid as in prerequisite i read that we need “SSO system of Choice” but we need to be absolutely sure about our option and possibilities.
we also reffered to following thread:
10g - how to configure sso with iis-
But, this one seems to be unresolved So kindly help
Regards
Saurabh

Hi Praveen,
Thanks for your response. I was doing a bit of R&D on SOAP API, tell me if i am wrong.
In case we use SOAP API to Authenticate then we will get Response in terms of XML and we have to write our own code to render it in tables or charts.
We dont want that we just want to automate the Authentication part and want to use OBIEE use Interactive Dashboards. Kindly suggest if I am wrong and if we just write a piece of Code to get the Authentication done and it will not affect the further use of OBIEE.
Regards
Saurabh
