Friendly Printed Adf struts and CVS( case 1)

Dear All,
these link has good example for CVS on ADF struts for friendly printed.
Try the CSV sample (#27) at http://radio.weblogs.com/0118231/stories/2004/09/23/notYetDocumentedAdfSampleApplications.html.
The problem is there are no explanation in step by step fashion for new comers like me.
I try to make the same project like the no 27 example. But the searching creteria always has a value that collected from data on the database when we run it from Jdeveloper. While on the example no 27 zip file, it will appear null and we can put the criteria there for our searching....
Anybody can show me my mistakes and the step to solve these problems?

ADF, getViewCriteriaClause and QBE

Hi all,
I have developed an application, for italian people, with ADF, Struts and JSP tecnologies and
I have the following problem. I must use the european date format (i.e. dd/mm/yyyy) and european
number format (i.e. 2.456,18).
If I have a date field (or number field) in a form the search value must be insert into default format
(i.e. yyyy-mm-dd for a date, 2,456.18 for a number). I have found the following cases.
1 - If I insert in a date field >'01/01/2005' the where clause is traslated into TO_CHAR( viewObjectName.START_DATE, 'yyyy-mm-dd') >'01/01/2005' by standard implementation of getViewCriteriaClause method.
2 - If I insert in a date field 01/01/2005 the where clause is traslated into viewObjectName.START_DATE = TO_DATE('2005-01-01', 'yyyy-mm-dd') by standard implementation of getViewCriteriaClause method.
3 - If I insert in a date field >01/01/2005 the where clause is traslated into TO_CHAR( viewObjectName.START_DATE, 'yyyy-mm-dd') >01/01/2005) by standard implementation of getViewCriteriaClause method.
4 - If I insert in a date field >'2005-01-01' the where clause is traslated into TO_CHAR( viewObjectName.START_DATE, 'yyyy-mm-dd') >'2005-01-01' by standard implementation of getViewCriteriaClause method.
The case (4) work fine but the other return the error ORA-01722: invalid number.
For a number field I have found the following cases.
a - If I insert in a date field >99.9 the where clause is traslated into viewObjectName.TRS_VOL >99.9) by standard implementation of getViewCriteriaClause method.
b - If I insert in a date field >99,9 the where clause is traslated into viewObjectName.TRS_VOL >99,9) by standard implementation of getViewCriteriaClause method.
The case (a) work fine but the (b) case return the error ORA-00907: missing right parenthesis.
Is it possible to correct this ambiguous aspect in order to apply the format
set to the value inserted from user in the form by attribute definition (see Control Hints in ViewObject wizard)?
For example viewObjectName.START_DATE = TO_DATE('01/01/2005', 'dd/mm/yyyy').

Help with simple display and add in ADF/Struts app

I created a simple ADF/Struts application based on the HR schema. I have a department view object and entity object based on the Departments table. From the Struts page flow designer, I create a data page action (viewDepartments) that binded to a departments view object by dragging the departments view object as a "Read-Only" form from the palette with the navigation buttons --- this page will just display the departments. Next, I created another data page action (addDepartments) that allows a user to add a department. I did this by dragging the departments view object from the palette as an "Input Form" and then dragging the "Create" operation onto the data page action. Each data page action has its own JSP of course.
I'm noticing that every time when I go to to the "addDepartments.do" and then go to "viewDepartments.do", a blank record is added to the view object. Why is this? Also, I want the Submit button to do the "save and commit" in one step. How do I do that?
If it helps, I can email anybody the workspace file so that you can see this behavior.

Adf-Struts/JSP/BC4J- and setting date fields from jsp

Hi,
I'm working with the new ADF Frameworks (JDev 9.0.5.1) and ran into some questions regarding exception handling using BC4J, Struts and JSPs.
I have a DATE column in database and an entity and VO with a datefield with type oracle.jbo.domain.Date.
My JSP shows a textfield and the user should enter a valid date. Everything fine, until date is of wrong format or contains illegal characters...
Problem:
ADF tries to do a setAttribute on the datefield in VO row which expects a parameter with type oracle.jbo.domain.Date. When the user entered e.g. "NiceWeather" as date, I get an IIlegalArgumentException while converting to the correct Date format. This exception isn't thrown by bc4j as AttrValException and therefore my JSP renders a global error instead of a message directly behind the date field.
I tried to validate the datefield in my DataForm and in my Action in the validateModelUpdates() method, but with no fitting solution.
Any ideas how to validate a datefield with adf/struts/jsp/bc4j?

Torsen - In the first instance I'd recommed that you try and handle it declaritively using the Struts Validator Framework . See http://otn.oracle.com/products/jdev/howtos/10g/StrutsValidator/struts_validator_howto.html
There is a section in there on how to use the validator with ADF databound pages and you can check the format the user enters via generated JavaScript.

Does Oracle ADF UIX use Struts components internally? If yes, Does Oracle Support the issues that arises because this internally used Struts components? (I am using Oracle ADF in my application.

DataForwardAction and DataAction are build on top of struts actions to coordinate ADF databindings and it's life cycle;
UIX, has xmlns:struts="http://xmlns.oracle.com/uix/struts" this XML namespace has some elements like
<struts:form> and <struts:messageTextInput> also <struts:dataScope>
They work like struts jsp tag;

Making a delete commit automatically with ADF BC, Struts and ADF UIX

I'm trying to create a delete action that commits to the database automatically using ADF Business Components, Struts and ADF UIX.
I have a browse page from which the user can view all records in the table, and perform edit, create and delete actions on the data.
When the user selects a record and clicks edit they are taken to a screen where they can amend the details of that record. Create works in a similar way, but the create action on the view object is invoked before taking the user to the edit page (this is done by linking the browse page to an ADF DataAction (bound to Create) on the Struts page flow diagram, and then linking the ADF DataAction to the edit page).
When the user clicks submit on the edit page, the container follows a forward from the edit page to an ADF DataAction bound to the Commit method, and then from there a forward back to the browse page.
This seems to work fine for edit and create, but when I try to do something similar for delete, it behaves unpredictably - sometimes the delete is committed to the database, sometimes not.
To be more specific, the way I have tried to implement the auto commit delete is as follows:
There is a UIX submitButton on the browse page called Delete. When clicked, this button triggers an event, which is caught by an event handler inside the page. The event handler causes the UIX servlet to take a forward to an ADF DataAction bound to the Delete method on the relevant view object. It thens follows a forward from the previously mentioned DataAction to another ADF DataAction bound to the Commit method for the application module. There is then a forward leading back to the browse page.
Has anyone else encountered similar problems?

Suitable Prog For Printing VHS and DVD Case Covers

I'm trying to do with Tiger in my MacPro what i'm used to doing in OS9.2.2 and OSX.3.9 which is produce DVD and VHS case covers with printed material usually frame grabbed from relevant films in FCP then titled up to finish off the product. The covers then relate to the film content.
The prog I used has long ago been left behind somewhere with no hope of my finding it so I've been accustomed to taking a past finished one then altering it in Quark Express (from where I think it originated) and my question is, does anyone know of such a programme to be used in OS10.4.8 on my MacPro. At the moment I'm labouriously copying appropriate stuff from any film into 0S9.2.2 order to use the prog I still have there.....

Hi Ron!
There are a lot of possibilities, depending on how complex you want them to be, and how many $$ you are prepared to spend.
Adobe Illustrator does a great job, but so does Word: make a three column document, adjust them to fit the front, back and spine of the DVD case, and away you go!
Virtually any graphics program has templates for doing this.

Struts and ADF in Portal

When adding his portlet to a page, he basically received a portlet without any data, while the same worked fine outsi

We figured out that if we add the following filter mapping then it works fine:

The final reply from support was that Portal is not yet supported with ADF technology. Does anyone have any comment on the above filter issue and other thoughts on using Struts and ADF in Portal? Another issue we found was that the PDK Struts tags do not support EL expressions. Have a look at this forum post:

Struts Diagram and CVS Problems

We're having a difficult time with the StrutsPageFlow.oxd_struts and CVS. Anytime a developer makes a change to the Struts diagram and commits the struts-config.xml file, the StrutsPageFlow.oxd_struts file also gets committed. When a different developer updates the struts-config.xml file the StrutsPageFlow.oxd_struts file has a conflict on just about every item. We're also encountering this on our *.jpr and bc4j.xcfg files.
JDeveloper 10g is stealing a lot of our time as we're having to manually work around a lot of CVS conflicts on files that are not shown in the project but associated with project files like the struts-config.
Anyone else having CVS issues with these "behind-the-scene" files?

Unfortunately, this is a known issue. The only workaround we can suggest for struts at the moment is using an exclusive editing mode. Whenever a developer needs to modify the struts diagram, he should issue a cvs edit. Other developers should use the "List Editors" functionality in JDev to check whether someone is currently editing the file.
We're working on resolving these team development issues in the 10.1.3 release.

I'm hoping someone can point me to the right piece of documentation, but I can't seem to figure out how to build the link between 1) the new ADF bindings and the UIX controller event handler objects such as the BajaContext and 2) a UIX event handler and the ADF bindings.
We used the ServletBindingUtils object to gain a handle on BC4J objects within UIX event handlers. To get the application module, we'd use getApplicationModule and pass in the BajaContext object. Or, the BindingContext, but this context is the oracle.cabo.data.jbo.bind.BindingContext, not oracle.adf.model.BindingContext.
Also, the opposite question remains on how does one obtain a handle the Page, PageEvent, and BajaContext from the struts side, from say the DataActionContext?
If there is no link (or not one easily obtained) are there plans to provide one, or are these two controller mechanisms to remain separate?

There is a snippet to finding the BajaContext off of the rendering context:
BajaContext bajaContext = BajaRenderingContext.getBajaContext(context);
I'm not sure if something similar can be done with the ActionContext or not.

ADF Faces and Struts confusion

Hello alltogether,
I'm developing with struts for some years now but I'm completely new to ADF and Faces.
I want to integrate a "simple" ADF Faces page with one TreeTable to an existent struts application.
The idea I had is to create an action within the struts-config.xml inheriting from the DataAction or DataForwardAction in order to load and prepare the data for the TreeTableModel.
When I call the ADF Faces page using the .do call for the Action created (I have to prepend /faces/ to the normal Action call) the page is rendered correctly but I do not enter my derived Action class at all.
So my question is: How is the preferred way to fill the Model of the TreeTable before the ADF Faces page is rendered. The necessary datasource is obtained from a struts basic action throughout the whole application.
I'm now struggeling with the pageDef.xml (using the documentation from here: http://www.oracle.com/technology/documentation/jdev/b25947_01/index.html) but I'm really lost since I do not understand what happens when and how resp. why it happens.
All I want is the following: Prepare and load the necessary TreeModel before the page gets rendered (the appropriate model depends on a parameter which is given in the request that is send and which successfully response should be the ADF Faces page with the TreeTable filled with the appropriate data)!
Can please somebody give me the necessary piece of advice?
I'm trying for almost a day now!

With out using Facelets, of MyFaces?
Some users say they are using these two frameworks, but still complain of problems.
And you are suggesting to use facelets with ADF faces .
Can't we use ADF Faces and Tiles with out any other intermediate technology?

Software for mac to print CD and DVD cases and inserts

I have a powermac/tiger OS X and want to print up CD and DVD sleeves/covers and inserts but i have looked on the web for software that would enable me to do this with my mac and operating system but can not find anything.Does anyone know of any software i could purchase to enable me to do this with my mac ?

There are several applications that will do that. A couple that are specific are Discus, from Magic Mouse software, and DiscLabel from SmileOnMyMac. A version fo Discus comes with Toast, from Roxio, which is an application that offers advanced disk burning options. I got DiscLabel after getting a LightScribe drive, since it supports that. Both of these will label disks, as well as making covers and inserts.
Actually, any good paint application will print up the covers and inserts, but these applications will size them automatically. With less specific applications, you will need to do your own layout.

Struts and JSF Integration in OPDk-java based portlet

I'm developing a PDK java based portlet. For some reasons I cannot use the JSF bridge but I would like to integrate Struts and Jsf in my portlet, using Struts to manage actions and navigation and JSF (with ADF Faces components) for the view. I'm using the Strus-Faces library.
When I try to submit my portlet form, I receive the error "request URL not found on this server". I'm posting some exstracts of my code.
It's made of three pages: the main one "Integration1ShowPage", "error" and "result". The MainAction.java displays my mainPage, where there's a form. To keep it easy, when the user submits this form, the ActionName returns "success" and the "result" page should be displayed.
The MainAction works properly: the portlet is displayed but when I tried to submit the form I receive
The requested URL /provaDeploy/htdocs/integration1/integration1ShowPage.do was not found on this server.Could you please suggest me something?

Jheadstart, JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork

We're four-developer team and we've been working with Jheadstart for some months. Now we want to work with team options that provide jdeveloper (CVS or SCM). But, we are a too much suprised with all the problems that other developers had with CVS, we read it in some jdeveloper forums (JDeveloper and CVS and TeamWork and JDeveloper and CVS
I get very worry about the problems that developers had with CVS and that at last they don't find a better solution than migrate to jdeveloper 10.1.3. All the forums recomend migrate to jdeveloper 10.1.3 for better support of team work, but I read (some time ago) that jdeveloper 10.1.3 still doesn't support ADF, then I assume we cannot use it with Jheadstart, Am I right? Is there a way to use Jheadstart with JDeveloper 10.1.3 Preview right now?
What do you recomend for team work with Jheadstart?

As you problably know, the JHeadstart team consists of consultants and we face the exact same problems and share the exact same frustrations as you do on an every day basis at our customer projects. It is indeed not easy to use JDeveloper in a multi-developer environment. In all fairness much of this is a given when doing file-based development, and I have seen the exact same problems in situations where other IDE's such as Eclipse etc were used. But using advanced frameworks like ADF and BC4J makes matters more complex, because the declarative way of developing these applications using drag&drop and powerful wizards make you as a developer be less 'in touch' with the file or files that are actually created and updated, and also there tend to be more files in such an architecture that are changed simultaneously by many developers at once.
Merging is the only way out of this mess, and merge tools are not perfect, far from it. They get better and better but at some point you'll need to understand the semantics of the files that are to be merged to be able to merge them correctly, and merge tools will in all likelyhood never become that smart.
Until they do, the only thing one can do is to tackle the problem from the other side: if merge tools dont understand the files they merge, we should take into account the weaknesses of these merge tools, and set up our files so that changes CAN be automatically merged, or in most cases at least. Indeed, JDeveloper 10.1.3 is taking good steps in this direction for notoriously tricky files such as JPR files and such. But the problem will never completely go away.
As for using 10.1.3, well, as you said the preview does not contain ADF so JHeadstart will never run on it. We are developing JHeadstart 10.1.3 that will run on the production version of JDeveloper 10.1.3, but it will be a long time before that release will see the light. And although JDeveloper 10.1.3 is a kick-ass IDE (imho), it will not magically solve all multi-user issues. It will just be a bit more bearable.
Is there ever a real solution for it? I don't know. I have worked intensively with the Oracle Designer product before I switched to Java, and that tool, which uses a database rather than files to store its information, was almost perfect when dealing with multi-user development. It could do so because the level at which conflicts occur is VERY finegrained (so not at 'code line' level but sometimes as far as 'individual properties in a property inspector' level), plus the advantages of instantaneous locking in the database when modifying something. And, thinking of it, it could do so because it dealt with 'structured objects' rather than files, thereby having some 'semantic' information about the data. I have this feeling we can only 'get it right' if we will treat, for instance, a Java file not as a collection of lines of code, but of a structured object tree with members, constructors, methods, parameters etc. etc., and store it as such, instead of storing it as a flat OS file.
Just ranting here (this really should be a personal BLOG entry rather than a forum post, but oh well). As you can tell, its a subject that is very close to every developer's heart.
