FRM-92101: Load Balancing Forms 10g with Webcache

Hi,
I´m having some problems with Oracle Forms and Webcache 10g and I was wondering if you
could help.
Machines: (Pentium IV 2.6 GHz; 2GB RAM; 80GB HD)
A. Red Hat Linux AS 2.1
Oracle AS 10g - Infrastructure Installation
B. Windows 2000 Server - Service Pack 4
Oracle AS 10g - BI and Forms Installation (Using Infrastructure on machine A)
C. Windows 2000 Server - Service Pack 4
Oracle AS 10g - BI and Forms Installation (Using Infrastructure on machine A)
I didn´t apply any Patchsets of Oracle AS 10g. My current version is 9.0.4.0 .
Goal:
Use Oracle Webcache 10g on machine B for Load Balancing an Oracle Forms Application
on machines B and C.
Facts:
The Oracle AS 10g installation on the 3 machines was made without problems.
The Forms Applications are running without problems on both Forms servers in machine B and C.
Symptoms:
I´m getting the following error when I try to access the forms application through Webcache:
FRM-92101: There was a failure in the forms server during startup.
This could happen due to invalid configuration.
Please look in the web-server log file for details.
But, this error happens ONLY when BOTH OC4J_BI_Forms instances (machines B and C) are
running.
When just one of the OC4J_BI_Forms is running everything works fine.
Webcache Configuration:
I´ve followed Metalink note 207668.1: Configuring Web Cache as a Load Balancer for Application Servers
step by step to make the configuration of the following components:
1. Configuration of the origin servers
2. Configuration of Site definitions
3. Configuration of Site to server mapping
After that, I´ve follwed the Metalink note 229900.1: Integrating and using Web Cache with Forms 9i for Load Balancing
step by step to make the configuration of the following components:
4. Session Binding
Then I try to test the Load Balancing and I got the error FRM-92101 when both OC4J_BI_Forms
instance were running.
I´ve searched Metalink and found note 268830.1: Webcache Won't Load Balance 2 Forms Instances.
Following the note instructions I did the following changes:
Added these lines at the end of HTTPD.conf (machine B):
CookieTracking On
CookieName myformscookie1
Added these lines at the end of HTTPD.conf (machine C):
CookieTracking On
CookieName myformscookie2
In Webcache configuration:
I´ve Changed the default session binding from JSESSIONID to "ANY SET COOKIE" for the
site's session binding.
But even after these changes I´m getting FRM-92101 error on the same conditions.
How can I solve this problem ?
Thank you in advance.
Marcus Santos.

Did you ever Get this to work?
I am having some problems trying to load balance with Oracle Forms, Discover and reports Oracle Application Server Release 10g (9.0.4.0.2) and I was wondering if you could help. Has any one ever got this to work consistently? We are an ERP product written mostly in forms (904) and are trying to implement are largest customer there performance issue so we need the load balancing to work. Will also accept other recommendation as cost effective as solutions.

Just ran into this problem last Tuesday, Nov.30 and applied the changes today.
My configuration is similar to yours: 9.0.4 web cache on machine A, 9.0.4 10gAS forms and reports standalone on machine B and C (not a cluster, no infra).
I appended the Cookie lines you mentioned in httpd.conf located in $ORACLE_HOME/Apache/Apache/conf in both machines B and C.
One important thing you may have missed. After changing httpd.conf in each 9iAS instance, you need to make the change known to dcmctl so issue:
    dcmctl updateConfig -ct ohs
Then do the following for each 9iAS instance and it should be ready for webcache:
    dcmctl stop
    dcmctl start
Setup Any-set-Cookie in webcache instead of JSESSIONID and the whole thing should now work. You can run a form through machine A which will load balance to either machine B or C (which can both be up). Then, try shutting down 9iAS on machine B or C and run a form again. They now all work.

  • Load Balancing Forms Services with an effective healthcheck

I am in the process of configuring two forms 11.1.2 servers running with weblogic 10.3.5 with multiple forms applications clustered across both physical servers. We are looking to load balance to the various forms applications using a hardware load balancer. Can anyone comment on their experience with setting up effective application healthchecks using either hardware or software load balancers?
For example say that we have 3 applications clustered across 2 servers with the following
    URLs:
    http://server01:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=myapp1
    http://server01:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=myapp2
    http://server01:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=myapp3
    http://server02:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=myapp1
    http://server02:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=myapp2
    http://server02:7777/forms/frmservlet?config=myapp3
We would need a checking mechanism on the load balancer that could tell if myapp2 was down on say server01 and therefore block traffic to that application yet keep traffic open for the other 2 apps on the same server.
A specific difficulty with forms is that when the database behind the application is down forms services will return an error message within a displayed error form. From the load balancer's point of view the forms services are "up". We need to find a way of detecting that the application is actually available and not just that the forms services themselves are available. To detect that the forms services are available we might normally use the status check:
    http://server01:7777/forms/frmservlet?ifcmd=status
however this will only tell use the availability of the forms services on a physical server and not whether any actual applications are available.
I am aware that f5 do a BIGIP offering that includes some Oracle Forms specific components. Can anyone comment on how they have setup Oracle Forms healthchecks using various load balancing methods. In particular if a load balancer is limited to using WGET commands to check HTTP returned content is there a way of checking a forms application's availability and if not how have other people achieved an effective healthcheck?
    Many thanks,
    Philippe

  • Load balancing Reports Services 10g with WebCache?

    Hi Guys
Does anybody have any good ideas on how to load balance Oracle Reports Services?
Can I do it with WebCache as with Forms Services?
    /Jacob :)

My java application resides in a different server (weblogic) from the Oracle Application server (which has the report server). I do a browser redirect from my java application to a URL of OAS . I have hard coded Oracle Application server and report server name in one of my config files in my java weblogic server
In the above URL, servername:7770 is the Oracle Application Server. I would not have a problem with this since this will be the name of the cluster.
But the problem is server=<report server> . The report server which will pickup my request will be identified only after the browser has redirected to the URL. SO I cannot hard code it in my ajava application.
Can I just remove server=<report server name> when generating URL from my java application when I need to run report server in a clustered load balancing environment?
Sorry if my earlier post was confusing

I have more then half decent results with webcache as load balancer, but it still is a round robin (as mentioned before). This means that a session will not be transfered from one application server to the other once the session has been created.
So far I did not discover any benefits of a hardware loadbalancer over webcache, because (here it is again:) you are not able to transfer open sessions from one application server to the next. This has to do with the Oracle Forms architecture. In fact it is still client-server, only with the application server functioning as extra server ;)

  • Load Balancing Forms and Reports with Web Cache

We are planning to add a second OracleAS 10g middle-tier application server to an existing 10g middle-tier.
Both middle tiers will provide Forms and Reports.
Users must pass through two static HTML pages before starting Forms.
We plan to use Web Cache to load-balance (probably using round-robin) between the two middle-tiers.
Does anyone see any problems with this solution?
    All comments/suggestions welcome.
    Thanks,
    Jim

You could also load balance the two OC4J's using standard servlet mechanisms. I know that there exists a couple of good notes on Metalink. Go and do a search.

  • Load Balancing and Failover with 10G Standard Edition

    Hi,
I am new to Oracle Replication and need some help setting up replication for load balancing and failover. Is this possible using Oracle 10G Standard Edition? I plan on having all updates done on the master site and both databases will be for reads. In case of failure of the master site, I would need to be able to failover to the other database.
Also, if anyone knows of any documention for Basic Replication in 10G, please let me know.
    Thanks.

Simple nnapshot replication of data would require significant manual effort to configure to load balance or failover. One the load balancing side, you would generally be limited to to static load balancing-- assigning half the users to one machine and the other half of the users to the other machine, regardless of who is actively using the machine. Failover would be a significant manual effort, particularly to bring the failed machine back into the cluster. You would be implementing the guts of multi-master replication.
Frankly, if you actually have a system which is valuable enough to need load balancing and disaster recovery, I'm going to wager that it will be far cheaper even in the short run to buy more boxes and/or enterprise edition licenses than to try to implement this sort of thing yourself. In the long run, it will be far cheaper, since it will be far easier to maintain. Building all this yourself would probably be penny wise and pound foolish.

  • Load balancing & Fail over with 10g

Hi all, I understand that 10g offers a framework that allows a web site to run on multiple jvm's, therefore, offering load balancing and failover facilities. I can't find detailed information about this though on Oracle's webSite.
If you know of any good documentation about this, please let me know.
    Thanks!

I canceled the .fmx file, recompile, at execution I receive the same error (the other forms that don't uset WEBUTIL are running without problems).
What should I do in this case?
On my laptop I have webutil 1.6. I don't know the version number of the webutil package used in the form found on the internet. Could this be the reason?
    Any help will be appreciated.

when you try to compile the form, make sure you have attached the webutil.pll to the attached libraries section in the form..
also, while compiling the form, make sure you compile all PL/SQL code (Program-Compile PL/SQL--All) and then make an fmx

Hi everyone, i have a doubt, for implemeting Load Balancing with Forms Metrics Server previous i must have configured Shared APPL TOP?
And for Load Balancing JServ also i must have configured Shared APPL TOP in all my applications servers?
Thank you very much for helping

It is not a must, but it is recommended. If you are planning to configure PCP then it is a must.

  • Using Web Cache to Load balance Forms Server application.

    Hello,
I apologize for cross posting this question in the Forms and Caching Services forum. But I thought my question will have a better chance.
I have read that it's possible to use Oracle Web Cache as a software load balancer between multiple Application Servers.
We are running Oracle9iAS R1.0.2.2.2a, with Forms/Reports6i servers on 2 Win2k boxes i.e our Forms6i application is deployed on two seperate boxes in two distinct locations. Users at each location, use their respective App Server url.
Since the application is the same i.e. Forms6i code/fmx is the same for both locations, I am looking into loadbalancing and failover capability that Web Cache might be able to provide.
I AM ONLY LOOKING AT THE LOADBALANCING & FAILOVER capabilities and NOT caching.
So basically all users from both locations will point their browser to this Web Cache and the Web Cache will direct each connection to either of the two boxes. So, if either of the boxes dies, Web Cache will divert the requests to the other box.
My concern is whether Web Cache supports this for the Forms requests that it will receive from the users. We are using Servlet Deployment of Forms, so technically, all communication is going though the HTTPD.
Has anyone done this or has any ideas as to whether it's going to work or not? Oracle's FAQ insists that Forms is not supported. But I want to make sure that even loadbalancing is not supported. And if not supported then is there any other solution.
    Any comments appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Manish

Using Web Cache to load balance servlet-based Forms (6i and 9i) is unofficially supported. I say "unofficially" because we have actual customers doing it and getting support, but the 2 development teams (Forms and Web Cache) haven't actually done any integration testing of this sort of configuration yet. For your case, please contact your Support rep and ask what was done to use Web Cache as a load balancer for Forms6i at METRO in Germany. The Forms product managemment team is writing up a white paper to describe how to do it, but until then, you'll need to go through Support. Please contact me if you want more information.

  • Client Load balancing in AS with RAC

    Friends,
    1. Is an application servers cluster supports client load balancing.
    If not....
    2. if RAC is configured with appplication servers:
    client -> appl sever -> rac_node -> shared database
is there a possibility to configure CLIENT load balancing with the aid of any of the above
components (or smth else that i missed) i.e. avoid using hardware client load balancing
or third party software client load balancing???
    Thanks much for help.

Hi, I have the same question.
I am using RAC (11.1.0.7) and would like to load balance two application servers in the same way, for apache, forms and reports using 10.2.0.4 iAS FAR.
If I could load balance the apache connection, I'm sure it would be simple from there, again, I only have software load balancing available.
Could you point me to a doco?
    Thank you very much.
